Need Help With ASP.Net SQL Server Setup Wizard

Oct 27, 2007

Hello all,

 I am following this tutorial: http://aspnet.4guysfromrolla.com/articles/040506-1.aspx for merging the membership data into an existing database and part of the tutorial tells you to run Microsoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727aspnet_regsql.exe which I've done. However now I am running into issues with retrieving a list of databases. The only instance of my databases are in Microsoft Visual Web Developer Express so I'm not sure if thats the issue or not. I have tried using my IP address, my computer name, and the database names in the Server field to no avail. Here is the error I am receiving;
Failed to query a list of database names from the SQL server.
An error occurred while establishing a connection to the server.  When connecting to a SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server).

Thanks for all of your help!

1 .It's a windows application and using connectivity to an sql cerver ce database (.sdf).

3. im using system.data.sqlserverce for the connectivity

Importing Data From Oracle 8i/9i To SQL Server 2005 Using SQL Server Import And Export Wizard (AKA DTS Wizard)

Oct 20, 2006

Hi All,

I have become frustrated and I am not finding the answers I expect.

Here's the gist, we support both Oracle and SQL for our product and we would like to migrate our Clients who are willing/requesting to go from Oracle to SQL. Seems easy enough.

So, I create a Database in SQL 2005, right click and select "Import Data", Source is Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle and I setup my connection. so far so good.

I create my Destination for SQL Native Client to the Database that I plan on importing into. Still good

Next, I select "Copy data from one or more tables or views". I move on to the next screen and select all of the Objects from a Schema. These are Tables that only relate to our application or in other words, nothing Oracle System wise.

When I get to the end it progresses to about 20% and then throws this error about 300 or so times:

Could not connect source component.
Warning 0x80202066: Source - AM_ALERTS [1]: Cannot retrieve the column code page info from the OLE DB provider. If the component supports the "DefaultCodePage" property, the code page from that property will be used. Change the value of the property if the current string code page values are incorrect. If the component does not support the property, the code page from the component's locale ID will be used.

So, I'm thinking "Alright, we can search on this error and I'm sure there's an easy fix." I do some checking and indeed find out that there is a property setting called "AlwaysUseDefaultCodePage" in the OLEDB Data Source Properties. Great! I go back and look at the connection in the Import and .... there's nothing with that property!

Back to the drawing board. I Create a new SSIS package and figure out quickly that the AlwaysUseDefaultCodePage is in there. I can transfter information from the Oracle Source Table to the SQL Server 2005 Destination Table, but it appears to be a one to one thing. Programming this, if I get it to work at all, will take me about 150 hours or so.

This make perfect sense if all you are doing is copying a few columns or maybe one or two objects, but I am talking about 600 + objects with upwards of 2 million rows of data in each!!

This generates 2 questions:
1. If the Import Data Wizard cannot handle this operation on the fly, then why can't the AlwaysUseDefaultCodePage property be shown as part of the connection
2. How do I create and SSIS Package that will copy all of the data from Oracle to SQL Server? The source tables have been created and have the same Schema and Object Names as the Source. I don't want to create a Data Flow Task 600 times.

Help!!!

Setup And Upgrade :: One Machine 6 IPs - How To Setup DNS For Server

Apr 24, 2015

I am running a number of SQL instances on my PC. Within the network, I have think server with various System Center components. For compatibility reasons, some features of System Center 2012 R2 had to be delegated to different SQL databases. My question is, because there is now more than one IP address on my system, and each instance of SQL is assigned to its own IP, is there a way to setup DNS and SQL so the namespace points to the desired IP address? For Instance:

MSSQL2008 instance is set to run on = 11.12.13.1
MSSQL2012 is set to run on = 11.12.13.2
IN DNS:
A Record: Mike-PC = 11.12.13.1
A Record: Mike-PC = 11.12.13.2

If I want to use MSSQL2008 by specifying Mike-PC as the DNS name, how would I do that with 100% accuracy? If there is another way to get the job done, I am more than willing to approach this differently.

MDAC 2.8 Fatal Setup Error. This Setup Does Not Support Installing On This Operating System

Jan 5, 2006

I have XP Pro SP2 with MDAC 2.8.1022.  It had a problem so I tried to reinstall MDAC and got a Fatal Setup Error. This setup does not support installing on this operating system. I downloaded MDAC 2.8 1177 and get the same error.

I thought of uninstalling/reinstalling SP2, but this is a 2 month old Dell Latitude 610 with factory installed XP.  There is no Windows Service Pack 2 option listed in the Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs.

There's some other strange things, so I wonder if they are related.

1) I have Paul set up as an administrator account.  Some folders like MSSQL show that account with no permissions.  I grant all the permissions to Paul for that folder.  I come back later and the permissions are gone.

2) I deleted 20 files in Explorer, but 7 of them did not go away. I deleted those 7 again and they instatnly reappeared.  I deleted those 7 again and then they finally went away.

3) I get a slow reaction time for things like Windows Explorer and opening and closing programs. This is suprising since it has 2 gig of RAM and 2.3 Gig processor. Could it be a memory handling problem that's causing OS problems. Probably, the memory didn't handle the OS installation well and the whole system is compromised now.

Setup And Upgrade :: 2008 R2 Setup UI Has Incomplete List Of Installed Features - Can't Uninstall RS

Jul 23, 2015

We're doing upgrades from SQL 2008 R2 to SQL 2014. This is blocked due to RS is installed but not configured. Our desired action is to uninstall RS and proceed with the upgrade. But when setuparp.exe is raised, it does not list all the features on the 'Select Features' page.  In fact, it only lists the last 2 shared features (SQ Client Connectivity SDK and Microsoft Sync Framework). However, all items appear to be listed on the 'Select Instance' page including RS. I've seen this issue on 2 of our SQL 2008 R2 Servers already.

Import And Export Wizard: Transferring Multiple Tables From SQL Server 2005 To SQL Server 2000

Jun 15, 2007

Hi!

I just used the SSIS Import and Export Wizard to copy 50+ tables from SS05 to SS2K.

I found that the wizard created a package that I could not figure out how to edit, e.g., to change whether or not it had to CREATE a table, or just use an existing one. (I created some problems by manually editing the receiving table names to be ones that already existed -- but the original names it had did not exist, so it knew it had to create them. What I should have done, and eventually ended up doing, was scroll through my list of tables in the "receiving" box; I just figured editing the name would be faster, not realizing what problems I would create for myself.)

Anyhow, now that I see the complex package that the wizard creates, with a LOOP over the 50+ tables, I would like to know how/where in the package it is storing the information about the tables to copy.

Basically the wizard creates the following Control Flow tab entries (in processing sequence order):

an Execute SQL Task: NonTransactableSql
an Execute SQL Task: START TRANSACTION
a Sequence Container: Transaction Scoping Sequence, which contains
an Execute SQL Task: AllowedToFailPrologueSql
an Execute SQL Task: PrologueSql
a Foreach Loop Container, which contains
a Transfer Task with an icon I did not notice in the Toolbox
an Execute Package Task: Execute Inner Package
an Execute SQL Task: EpilogueSql
an "on success" arrow to
an Execute SQL Task: COMMIT TRANSACTION
an Execute SQL Task: PostTransaction Sql
an "on failure" arrow to
an Execute SQL Task: ROLLBACK TRANSACTION
an Execute SQL Task: CompensatingSql

Where, and how, can I look within this package to see the details about the tables I am transferring? I see that one of the Connection Managers is "TableSchema.XML" -- but it points to a temporary file on my hard drive, that I presume is populated by the package. Where does it get its information?

This is certainly much more complex than the package I would have written, based on my limited knowledge of SSIS. I would have been inclined to create 50+ Data Flow tasks, one for each table.

So now I'm trying to understand why the Wizard created this more-complex package.

Any help will be appreciated, including references to non-Microsoft books/websites/etc.

Thanks in advance.

Dan

Setup And Upgrade :: Error Setup Account Privileges

Nov 15, 2015

I'm trying to install SQL Server Management studio 2012 on my Windows 7 (x64) standalone laptop.  When I click "New SQL stand-alone installation..." it runs a Setup Support Rules check and always fails "Setup Account Privileges". I've looked into the error and I keep getting that I need to change security rules but I don't have that option in window 7.  How do I get around this without having to resort to a computer running Windows Server?

I have Visual Studio 2013 premium installed along with Localdb v11.  I just want to connect and manage my database engine through SSMS when developing any application.

SQL Server Upgrade Wizard Question

Oct 18, 1999

Quick question regarding the SQL 7.0 Upgrade Wizard:

I am attempting to import a set of databases currently hosted on a SQL 6.5 box into a separate SQL 7.0 server using the Upgrade Wizard. I am going through some of the Books Online articles on the general process and one of the steps that is mentioned is that the upgrade process changes ODBC and SQL-DMO components on the original SQL 6.5 box prior to performing the database upgrade. Am I understanding this correctly or does this component upgrade only apply when performing a 6.5-7.0 upgrade on the same server?

The idea is that I do *not* want to touch / affect the SQL 6.5 server at all - just get the database / login info off and into the new SQL 7.0 server.

Any comments appreciated,
RM

SQL Server Registration Wizard Problem

Mar 27, 2003

Gentlemen,

I have a problem I can't seem to solve. Maybe you guys have seen it before and can help me out.

A developer in the company has previously registered his SQL 2000 machine in EM using the Registration Wizard. Registering the same server with both "(local)" and "<server_name>" in the same EM pane worked out fine, until a couple of days ago. After deinstalling and reinstalling SQL 2000 and registering "(local)" --which works fine--, he can no longer add the same instance using "<server_name>". The message that appears on the last page of the SQL Server Registration Wizard states:

ARMADAN800-001: A Server with this name already exists.

I wonder if it's due to the (local) entry, or if it has something to do with e.g. registration key that lingers on in the registry and prevents him from adding the server to the server group.

Since the Properties button on the Registration Wizard window is disabled, this is all the information I can provide you. Before re-installing SQL, cleaning the registry using something like regclean and reinstalling SQL again, I thought I'd ask you people for advise.

Any hints, references or pointers are welcome.

Many thanks in advance.

SQL Server Import And Export Wizard

Feb 13, 2008

I have imported spreadsheet and text files into SQL 2000 and I have never had this much trouble. Everything is just fine when I have a table that is all varchar(50). I have a table that has money, datetime, etc. Everytime I try to import this information it says that it cannot import because the column will be truncated. The column that first errors out is completely blank. The table column allows nulls. What is the issue? It is a money column and there isn't anything in there. Next the error message says that it is a datetime field ever after it has already run bast 5 datetime fields without a problem. The format is exactly the same. Is there a patch for this or am I doing something completely wrong? PLEASE HELP!

Announcing - SQL Server Database Publishing Wizard CTP 1

Oct 17, 2006

The SQL Server group at Microsoft has just launched the SQL Server Hosting Toolkit with the release of the Database Publishing Wizard Community Technology Preview 1.The objective of the SQL Server Hosting Toolkit is to enable a great experience around hosted SQL Server.  The Database Publishing Wizard works toward this mission by making it easy to upload a database from a development box up to a shared hoster.  In its first incarnation, the Database Publishing Wizard is a command line tool that generates a T-SQL script designed to be executed in the script execution windows provided by most hosters in their database management consoles.  In the coming months we'll be adding a GUI and building seamless integration between the tool and an upload service we'll provide to hosters for deployment.Details on the Database Publishing Wizard as well as the download can be found at http://www.codeplex.com/Wiki/View.aspx?ProjectName=sqlhost&title=Database%20Publishing%20Wizard.We plan to be releasing advances in the Toolkit frequently so check out this first CTP and give us your feedback! Thanks,Dan WinnSenior Program Manager, Microsoft SQL Server

Difficulties With SQL Server 6.5 SP5a Cluster Wizard

Mar 26, 1999

Has anyone gotten clustering to work via the Cluster Wizard in SP5a?

I've got two ProLiant 5500's with the Compaq Clustering S/100 option. I've done a fresh install of NT Enterprise 4.0 SP3, then installed clustering with the Compaq S/100 drivers... everything fails over nicely, can make shares off the virtual server, etc. I then install SQL Server 6.5 EE, then apply SP5a -- so far, so good.

Now I try to run the clustering wizard. The wiz prompts me for my SA password. I enter it, and it gives me a message box that it can't start or log onto the database... but when I look in the event log it appears to have logged on successfully with a Non-trusted connection.

Thanks for the help...

Import CSV To Microsoft Server 2014 Wizard

Nov 19, 2015

I have a very simple (but big) CSV file and I want to import it to my database in Microsoft SQL Server 2014 (Database/Tasks/Import Data). But I receive the following error:The conversion returned status value 2 and status text "The value could not be converted because of a potential loss of data".Here is a sample of my CSV file (containing ~ 9 million rows):

1393013,297884,'20150414 15:46:25'
1393010,301242,'20150414 15:46:58'

Ideally my first and second columns are bigint and the third is datetime. In the wizard, I choose 'unsigned 8 byte integer' for first two and 'timestamp' for the third and I receive the error. Even I try to use string for all three columns as data type and still I receive the same error.I also tried using bcp command in command line. It errs nothing and inserts nothing! Also using "bulk insert" command errs me that: "the column is too long! verify your terminators", but they are correctly fixed!
