Need Help With SQL Query. Keyword Matching.

Jul 27, 2005

Hi all,

I have two tables:

workgroups (wg_id, wg_name)
workgroups_keywords (wgk_wg_id, wgk_keyword)

Each workgroup has an associated list of one or more keywords.

What I want do to at first was given a particular list of keywords
bring back a list of workgroups that have at least one matching keyword
associated with it.

I have the following query:

select distinct(wg_id), wg_name
from workgroups, workgroups_keywords
where
wgk_keyword in (#QuotedValueList(Keywords.wgk_keyword)#)
and
wg_id = wgk_wg_id
order by wg_name

This works great.

However, is there a way in a single query to order the returned rows by
the number of keywords that are found to be matching (in other words an
order by relevancy, the more keywords that match the more relevant the
returned row)?

Thanks in advance.

SQL Query For Matching

Jul 26, 2007

Okay I've posted something like this in another area but it doesn't seem to be focused towards the right people.  I need ya'll SQL experts!
 I have a database table that has 5 columns:  Time  Status  Message  Source  IP
The Status column has only two choices "up" or "down"
 I'm looking for some kind of advanced query that will do the following:
 I need the query in my application to pull the table and then match up IP, Status, and Message columns.  It should only find One match and then once it has found a match it needs to recognize that one is an "up" status and one is a "down" status and then remove them from the database.
 Does that make sense?  Is it impossible?

Keyword Query

Jan 9, 2004

I have a sample photo database where we have added keywords to search for photos. I wanted a way to list all of the keywords that are in the database individually. The problem is in my keyword field there are many keywords seperated by a comma.

Ex: "bull, barrel, rodeo, western, cowboy" would in the keyword field for one photo.

I wanted to select distinct all of the individual words from each keyword field in all of the records.

Can this be done? What would the query look like?

I am looking for a list like:

bull
barrel
rodeo
western
cowboy

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Rob

Problem With Query Where Column Name Is The Same As A Keyword

I am having trouble with the following query within my store procedure.
as you can see, i am making an union of 2 separate queries.

in the 2nd part of the union, i encounter a column in the database where the column name is the same as the keyword "desc"

is there a way which i can get around this, or is there any other way that i can sepecify the column? (excluding the possibility of using *)

CREATE PROCEDURE topcat.getTransHistory

Pattern Matching Or Find And Replace In SQL Query

Oct 29, 2007

I have a table called MessageBoard.  It has a column called Messages.
A user can type text including any html tags through a text area ans when he saves it by clicking a button, the content typed by the user is saved in the MessageBoard Table (in the Messages) column.  So once saved, the html tags are kept intact.  If I have to find and replace certain html tags, what kind of SQL Query I have to write?
For example I want to find all the <pre> </pre> tags and replace it with <p> </p> tags.  How do I do this?

Need A Query To Return Rows Containing ALL Matching Fields

Sep 9, 2004

I have three tables X,Y,Z. Table 'Y' is having foreign key constraints on tables 'X' and 'Z' (which happen to be primary key tables).
I would like to run a query in which I can retrieve rows from Table 'X' only if the matching rows in Table 'Y' have "ALL" their matching rows available in a simple query being run on Table "Z".
The "All" part is very important.

For more clarification, let me give you an example. Table "X" is equivalent to a mathematical "Equation" table which consists of an equation made up of several "Fields". These fields are stored in Table "Z". Table "Y" contains the primary keys from Tables "X" and "Z". i.e. Table "Y" determines what fields are required for an equation to be complete.

I am having a query "Q" on Table "Z" (Fields table) which returns me a bunch of Fields. Now, on the basis of these fields, I want to retrieve only those Equations (Table "X") which have "ALL" their required Fields present in the bunch retrieved by the Query "Q".

I hope I am clear enough.
Does anyone have any solutions???

I need to query it based on a specific application ID.

there will be many records from each IDnum, but only one start for each. I need to know all those IDnums that have "started" and not "stopped"

Returning Matching/Non Matching Records

Feb 4, 2007

Hi All

I have a strange request that might not be possible based on the laws of relational databases but I thought I'd give it a try.

I have three tables which for simplicity I will call A, B and C. Table A contains my master records, Table B contains user details and the final table contains some extra data

In my initial search when joining A and B, I return 100 records. I then need to search in table C for these 100 records based on a criteria. the expected result should return all 100 rows for the ones that match and also the ones that do not match. The problem is that in Table C, not all the 100 IDs exist, so there will not be a corresponding record. Unfortunately, our users still want to see all 100 records in the output. Is this possible

As always any help or direction would be appreciated.

Keyword Search

May 27, 2007

I am trying to implement a band search on my web site (concert listings) and would like it to behave a bit more intelligently than a standard match on the band name.
At the moment I have a stored procedure that just selects every show that features a band with exactly the same name as the search term. What I'm now trying to do is when the user enters a band name containing the '&' character I would also like to search using the word and 'and'. For example, if they search for 'Rise & Fall', they should get details on all shows featuring 'Rise & Fall' OR 'Rise And Fall'. Is it possible to do this within my stored procedure?

Search By Keyword

Jan 31, 2008

 Greetings,  I am a php developer, and running a little bit out of deadline in a project. Can someone provide me with a VERY simple way to implement search by keyword in C#?  I have already implemented a search page (according to firstname, lastname etc) that works on a drop down menu (where you have the option to choose seach by keyword) . So, I need to change something in my SQL query to make this work. I already knew from my SQL experience that the simplest and probably the SLOWEST and MOST UN EFFICIENT one was using LIKE. I don't mind using it but I can't since I will end up  having something close to that: SELECT * FROM users WHERE keyword_entered LIKE @keyword;      (or '@keyword)  which does not work.      however SELECT * FROM users WHERE keyword_entered LIKE 'somename%'; does work! I guess the trick is in putting the % after the keyword. ( I would have done that in php by putting the entered keyword in a string and than add to it % and pass it to the SQL query and I dunno how to do that in .NET)any ideas?

Using Keyword Question...

Apr 3, 2008

Hi everyone,
 I have a few classes representing my data layer for my ASP.Net 2.0 Web Application. For example, UserDAL, DocumentDAL, etc... All these classes derive from BaseDAL, which stores the SqlConnection in it. The DAL classes access it through a property. The property is defined like that:
private SqlConnection connection;public SqlConnection Connection{get{  if (connection == null)                 connection = new SqlConnection();  if (connection.State != ConnectionState.Open)  {                connection.ConnectionString = ConnectionString;                 connection.Open();    }  return connection;}}
The constructor of each DAL class is overloaded and takes a SqlConnection object. So if I need to access two DAL classes, I pass the connection of the first, to the second to prevent opening and closing the connection again and again. Here is a sample: UserDAL userDAL = new UserDAL();
userDAL.DoSomethingAndAccessConnectionProperty();

// Now userDAL.Connection is opened. Pass the connection to the constructor of DocumentDAL
DocumentDAL documentDAL = new DokumentDAL(userDAL.Connection);
documentDAL.AlsoDoSomething();
So, if I do the following:using (UserDAL userDAL = new UserDAL())
{
userDAL.DoSomethingAndAccessConnectionProperty();

DocumentDAL documentDAL = new DokumentDAL(userDAL.Connection);
documentDAL.AlsoDoSomething();
}
I assume that the connection is removed from memory, even if the DocumentDAL class has also used it. Am I right? I want to be sure that there will be no open connections.Thanks

Matching Names

Sep 3, 2003

My company is going to start a Cancel web site so customers can cancel their future orders by simply filling out a form. I was wondering what would be the best way to compare the cancel db to db that is used to store customer information and order information.

The cancel website will only hold the name, address, and Credit Card Number used. There will not be a customer/order number. The simple Credit Card to Credit Card search will be easy but I was more worried about comparing the rest of the information in case the Credit Card search fail. I was told the "standard" look up was to take the first 3 letters of the first name and the last 3 letters of the last name. If that comes up with more then one record, take that set and see if the zip code matches up and/or part of the street address matches up (counting we do not have very reliable people inputting the information into the system is not going to help this search).

Anyway, any suggestions on comparing the data would be great.

Thanks ahead of time

Matching Columns

Sep 7, 2004

All

I have a table which contains 4 columns each of which are NULL or contain a 6 digit code.
Here is a sample of the table content:

COL1 COL2 COL3 COL4
----- ----- ----- -----
452359 NULL NULL 347406
NULL NULL 347406 347406
592319 NULL 347406 347406
592319 150009 347406 347406
592319 150010 347406 347406

Through out the table any number of the columns can be null.

I wish to remove rows from this table where the columns values are contained in another row i.e Row 2 above is contained within row 3. Similarly, row 3 is contained within row 4.
So, the only rows I want from the sample data above are rows 1, 4 and 5.

I hope I have explained my query adequately, and any help would be great appreciated. (Before I go mad...!)

Katherine

SQL Pattern Matching

Mar 20, 2008

Hi everyone. I'm developing a web search engine using asp and SQL Server 2000. I need to return records that matches with a string entered by users. In example, suppose my database to have this structure and it's filled like this:

ID NAME KEYWORDS
--- ------- -----------
AA025 NAME1 attached, atic, common, business, hotels
AA026 NAME2 headache, medicin, aspirins, heat, health
AA027 NAME3 at, services, music, electronics

suppose that user enters 'at'. By now, i'm using this pattern '%<input_text>%'. So in this example, pattern would be '%at%'. As i remarked in the fields above, the three fields matches, and that's not what i'm looking for. I want that the result of that query be just the last field, with 'AA027' ID.
Thanks in advance guys.
Cheers.

or

Using The DISTINCT Keyword

May 11, 2006

Hi all,

I have two datatables in my database. The first table, named Books, has two columns: BookID and Author (BookID is the primary key). The second table, named Purchases, has three columns: PurchaseID, BookID, BuyerID (Purchase ID is the primary key).

The idea here is that the Books datatable contains information regarding the book and its author while the Purchases datatable contains information on who has purchased what book.

Now, say I want to write an SQL query to extract a list of all the authors who have written a book purchased by buyer X. How would I go about doing this without having any duplicate entries? I figured that the following would work:

SELECT DISTINCT * FROM Books INNER JOIN Purchases ON Books.BookID=Purchases.BookID

But this ends up generating duplicate BookIDs if the Purchases table contains several buyers who have bought that Book. I know I could use BookID rather than * in the above query and that would work, but in reality I'm dealing with more complex tables and I would rather keep the * in there to actually get all the data out in one go.
