New 2005 SSIS Task: File Properties Task

Nov 7, 2007

A common issue that I run across with clients is they want only want to process a file if it's finished transmitting to the server. This SQL Server 2005 task reads the properties of a file and writes the values to a series of variables. For example, you can use this task to determine if the file is in use (still be uploaded or written to) and then conditionally run the Data Flow task to load the file if it's not being used. You can also use it to determine when the file was created in order to determine if it must be archived.

Reg:- Assign File Properties To SSIS Varibales(Custom Task) In Property Grid Progrmatically.

Jul 6, 2007

HI,

I need to open a File through File connection manager and want to assign these file properties to SSIS precreated varibale or Newly created varibale. I want to show file properties in Propertygrid. Properties grid will conatin File Propeties Column and SSIS varibale Combobox column. The combo box will contain New variable field. When user select New Variable field, then a new SSIS varibale window will open and we can able create New variable and that Newly created variable should add to that property comboBox.

For Instance if we create a new varibale Name "Creationdate" by clicking on New Varible in ComboBox, then that CreationDate variable should add to Property ComboBox in PropertyGrid. After adding when we select that variable Name "Creationdate" then that selected file Creation date should assign to SSIS varibale "Creationdate" field.

Any Comments or sample will help me.

Custom Task With PropertyGrid Control SSIS - Not Able To See Properties In GUI

Apr 29, 2008

Hello All Experts,

I have created one custom task with PropertyGrid Control and two button on it. I have everything under one class library project.
Problem I am facing is when i load task and clik on Edit I can not see those properties into that GUI and even functionlity of those two buttons (OK and Cancel) not working but I am able to see those properties in default property window.

If I create this GUI as a seperate window application then I am able to see those properties in GUI and buttons also working but in SSIS I am not able to load the task.

After reading on internet about SSIS they suggest to create everything under one project which I did.

Basically I am trying to populate connection managers like Source Connection and Destination Connection when I load this task and there are much more backend functionlity but at first step i m stuck and not able to see those properties in GUI.

Please help and give your input on it. I was following "Increment Task" example given by MSDN.
If you need more info let me know.

Thanks

SSIS Equivalent To DTS Transform Data Task Properties

May 3, 2007

I am trying to read in a flat file, transform the fields and store into a destination database.

In DTS, this works using Transform Data Task Properties. I define the columns and then have a VB script on the Transformations tab that changes any bad data.

Is there a way to do this in SSIS that I can define the column transformations and re-use my VB scripts?

Integration Services :: File Properties Script Task

May 14, 2015

I would like to store the file properties like (title, created by , created time, modified time) and load in to a audit table along with file name. I know how to design this process inside a foreach lookup with script task and execute sql task.

I'm trying to achieve this by editing my existing code which captures the most recent file based on its file properties.

public void Main()
{
// TODO: Add your code here
var directory = new DirectoryInfo(Dts.Variables["User::Csv_Source"].Value.ToString());
FileInfo[] files = directory.GetFiles("*.csv");
DateTime lastModified = DateTime.MinValue;

Integration Services :: Updating SSIS Task Standard Properties Window

May 25, 2015

If, in an SSIS package, you put an instance of an 'Execute SQL Task' task in the Control Flow, in the Properties window, you can see the properties of the task, for example CodePage.

If you double click on the task, the Execute SQL Task Editor appears, with several of the properties which are also in the Properties window, including CodePage.

If, in the Editor, you update the value of CodePage, then click OK, the value of CodePage in the Properties window is updated immediately.

I have written a custom SSIS task, which also has the same properties in the Properties window and in the Editor. The Editor also has an OK button. When OK is clicked, the values of the task properties are updated. An example property is FolderToArchive. If I open the Editor, change the value of FolderToArchive and click the OK button, the value of FolderToArchive in the Properties window is NOT immediately updated.

If, however, I select the FolderToArchive field in the Propertiesd window, it is then updated with the value I entered in the Editor.

How do I get my task to update the values in the Properties window, after changing a value in the Editor, when I click the OK button?

I would have thought I would need something like, in pseudo-code,

    Task.Parent.PropertiesWindow.Refresh
    where task is of type Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.Task and Task.Parent is of type Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.Package.

Moving Files (split From An Existing Thread-SSIS Equivalent To DTS Transform Data Task Properties)

May 7, 2007

Hi JayH (or anyone). Another week...a new set of problems. I obviously need to learn .net syntax, but because of project deadlines in converting from DTS to SSIS it is hard for me to stop and do that. So, if someone could help me some easy syntax, I would really appreciate it.

In DTS, there was a VBScript that copied a set of flat files from one directory to an archive directory after modifying the file name. In SSIS, the directory and archive directory will be specified in the config file. So, I need a .net script that retrieves a file, renames it and copies it to a different directory.

Linda

Here is the old VBScript Code:

Public Sub Main()

Option Explicit

Function Main()

Dim MovementDataDir

Dim MovementArchiveDataDir

Dim MovementDataFile

Dim MovementArchiveDataFile

Dim FileNameRoot

Dim FileNameExtension, DecimalLocation

Dim CurMonth, CurDay

Dim FileApplicationDate

Dim fso ' File System Object

Dim folder

Dim FileCollection

Dim MovementFile

'======================================================================

'Create text strings of today's date to be appended to the archived file.

FileApplicationDate = Now

CurMonth = Month(FileApplicationDate)

CurDay = Day(FileApplicationDate)

If Len(CurMonth) = 1 Then

CurMonth = "0" & CurMonth

End If

If Len(CurDay) = 1 Then

CurDay = "0" & CurDay

End If

FileApplicationDate = CurMonth & CurDay & Year(FileApplicationDate)

'=====================================================================

' Set the movement data directory from the global variable.

MovementDataDir = DTSGlobalVariables("gsMovementDataDir").Value

MovementArchiveDataDir = DTSGlobalVariables("gsMovementDataArchiveDir").Value

fso = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")

folder = fso.GetFolder(MovementDataDir)

FileCollection = folder.Files

' Loop through all files in the data directory.

For Each MovementFile In FileCollection

' Get the full path name of the current data file.

MovementDataFile = MovementDataDir & "" & MovementFile.Name

' Get the full path name of the archive data file.

MovementArchiveDataFile = MovementArchiveDataDir & "" & MovementFile.Name

DecimalLocation = InStr(1, MovementArchiveDataFile, ".")

FileNameExtension = Mid(MovementArchiveDataFile, DecimalLocation, Len(MovementArchiveDataFile) - DecimalLocation + 1)

FileNameRoot = Mid(MovementArchiveDataFile, 1, DecimalLocation - 1)

MovementArchiveDataFile = FileNameRoot & "_" & FileApplicationDate & FileNameExtension

If (fso.FileExists(MovementDataFile)) Then

fso.CopyFile(MovementDataFile, MovementArchiveDataFile)

SSIS Task Transfer SQL Server Objects Task And Default Constraints On Tables

Feb 21, 2008

I am using the "Transfer SQL Server Objects Task" to copy some tables from database A to database B including data.

The tables, primary key constraints, Foreign key, data and all transfers nicely except for "DEFAULT CONSTRAINTS" on the tables.

I have failed to find any option in the "Transfer SQL Server Objects Task" task to explicitly say "copy default constraints". So I guess logically it should happen automatically but it doesn't. I hope it is not a bug :-)

Any option anyone knows will help.

Thanks.

SSIS (Integration Services) Transfer SQL Server Objects Task: This Task Can Not Participate In A Transaction

Feb 1, 2007

In short, does the €œTransfer SQL Server Objects Task€? support distributed transactions?

In trying to use a €œTransfer SQL Server Objects Task€? in a container using a transaction on the container. The task is set to support the transaction. It is setup to copy table data from several tables from a non-domain server (sql server 2000) to a domain-based server (sql server 2005). I get an error stating, €œThis task can not participate in a transaction€?.

I am wondering if it means exactly what it says €“ this task in SSIS can€™t participate at all. Or does it mean that it won€™t in this scenario for some reason. I attempted a simple copy of data from mssql 2005 to mssql 2005 (same server) and the task still failed). MSDTC appears to be running properly on my machine and such (I can do a simple distributed transaction across linked server to the 2000 server in Query Analyzer (QA)). Also, MSDTC appears to be working on both servers with distributed transaction query tests in QA.

Here€™s the error info€¦

Writing Full Result Set From Execute SQL Task Into A File Using Script Task

Mar 28, 2007

In the Control flow tab, I have an Execute SQL Task that outputs full Result set into a variable of an object type. Now how can I write the contents of the Full Result Set into a text file using Script Task. I also want to format the following way while I output into a file:

Column Name 1 : Column Value

Column Name 2: Column Value and so on

I tried writing the contents of the Object Variable into a file, but the file had an output of single word: System.__ComObject.

Code for Writing the Full Result Set into a Text File

Dim RSsqloutput as String = Dts.Variables("objVariable").Value.ToString

Dim strVal as String = "File completed on " & Now() & vbCrLf & "------------------------------------------------------" & vbCrLf

oLogFile.WriteAllText("C:MyFile.txt", strValue)

oLogFile.WriteAllText("C:MyFile.txt", rsSQLOutput)

I went through this link that explains how to write XML Result Set into a File, But this doesn't help as it writes in XML format.

Would you please give me a hint of code how I can go upon.

File Watcher Task (Konessans) Vs For Each Loop Task

Dec 6, 2007

HI, I need to trigger some packages upon existance of specific files in a particular directory. Sound lkike the file watcher task (from SQLIS) would do the job but I am wondering what is the difference of using this tool instead of a for each loop container. I mean, If a file exists in a directory, the for each loop container will detect it. Since the file watcher is not a service, the package containing it needs to ne scheduled on a regular basis for the filewatcher to detect the file, right? So, a for each loop container would do the job? So, waht wouldbe the advantage of using the file watcher task?

Thank you,

SQL Server 2008 :: SSIS Copy File From SharePoint Library Using File System Task Permissions?

Jun 19, 2015

Historically I've always written a VB script to copy a file from a sharepoint library. I don't like this method because I have to input a username & password in the script and maintain a config file.

Yesterday I was playing around with using a file system task. The sharepoint file has a UNC path so why not? I created a simple test package with a single file system task that copies the sharepoint file (addressed via UNC) to another network location. Package runs fine locally.

I try running on our utility server but am getting a "The file name [SHAREPOINT UNC PATH] specified in the connection was not valid" error. Package is running with a proxy on the server and the proxy account has the same permissions to the sharepoint site (so far as I can tell) as me.

How Do You Get A Reference To The Task Host In An SSIS Task

Feb 26, 2008

I've created my own posting for this. The original post was here, I apologize: http://forums.microsoft.com/forums/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2906512&SiteID=1

According to the poster it's not possible. But there has to be some way to do it? Reflection (don't know how)?

I need to get a reference to the task host in an SSIS Task component.

Basically the scenario is this:

I have a custom task I have created. However I would like to validate that the ExecValueVariable is infact a string variable during the validate event of the task. I know how to verify its a string variable. But I can't figure out how to read what the user selected (such as User::Myvariable). The only way I've been able to figure out how to do it, but it only works if you open my custom task UI.

What I did is this:

I've implemented IDtsTaskUI and during the initialize section I wrote:

Sub Initialize(ByVal taskHost As TaskHost, ByVal serviceProvider As IServiceProvider) Implements IDtsTaskUI.Initialize
' Store the TaskHost of the task.
Me.taskHostValue = taskHost
Dim myTask As CustomTask= CType(taskHost.InnerObject, CustomTask)
myTask.myTaskHost = taskHost
End Sub

My Task is named: CustomTask. I have a public variable in my task as follows:

Public NotInheritable Class CustomTask
Inherits Task
Implements IDTSComponentPersist
Public myTaskHost As TaskHost = Nothing

Therefore I pass back the taskhost value to the CustomTask class, and voila I have it.

Problem is, this only works if the custom task calls the initialize method, and this only happens when you open the custom editor.

I then do the validation in my CustomTask class and it works fine, but myTaskHost is null/nothing until you actually open the custom task UI

How do I solve this?

Possible Bug With SSIS File System Task

Oct 31, 2006

I'm having an issue with a file system task & I'm not sure whether it is user error on my part or a bug. I'm using a SQL Task to create a transaction log backup & I'm saving the name of the file in a result set which I then am mapping to a package level user variable. After that runs I'm trying to copy this .BAK file to another folder using the file system task. I'm setting the following properties on the file system task.

Isdestinationpathvariable: False

Then I have entered the static directory for the file move.

Operation: Tried it with both copy file & move file.

Issourcepathvariable: True

Sourceconnection: User::File_name

After setting this I immediately get a validation warning telling me the source directory cannot be empty. If I try to run it, it fails. The weird thing is that if I set up a connection manager to a flat file & pass my user variable in as the connection string to this connection. Then set the Issourcepathvariable to false & the Sourceconnection to this connection manager it works.

I also have gotten it to work by substituting an ftp task in place of the file system task. The ftp task has no problem when I set the Islocalpathvariable to true & then pass my variable to Localvariable property. This is why I believe there is some sort of issue with the file system task. Has anyone seen this before? Is there some sort of problem with the way I'm setting it up?

Thank you

Wanting to use File System Task in SSIS to move files from

which is a problem because only the first 4 letters in the file name remain a
constant.

Does anyone know how to use a wild card or a way to work

Send Mail Task Problem Using A Combination Of ForEach Loop, Recordset Destination, Execute SQL Task And Script Task

Jun 21, 2007

OK. I give up and need help. Hopefully it's something minor ...

I have a dataflow which returns email addresses to a recordset.

I pass this recordset into a ForEachLoop configuring the enumerator as (Foreach ADO Enumerator). I also map the email address as a variable with index 0.

I then have a Execute SQL task which receives this email address as a varchar variable (parameter 0) which I then use in my SQL command to limit the rows returned. I have commented out the where clause and returned all rows regardless of email address to try to troubleshoot this problem. In either event, I then use a resultset to store the query result of type object and result name 0.

I then pass this resultset into a script variable to start parsing the sql rows returned as type object. ( I assume this is the correct way to do this from other prior posts ...).

The script appears to throw an exception at the following line. I assume it's because I'm either not passing in the values properly or the query doesn't return anything. However, I am certain the query works as it executes just fine at the command prompt.

Try

ds = CType(Dts.Variables("VP_EMAIL_RESULTS_RS").Value, DataSet)

My intent is to email the query results to each email address with the following type of data by passing the parsed data from the script to a send mail task. Email works fine and sends out messages but the content is empty. I pass the parsed data as string values to the messagesource and define the messagesourcetype as a variable in the mail task.

part number leadtime

x 5

y 9

....

Does anyone have any idea what I might be doing wrong?

thanks

How To Use The Dynamic Properties DTS Task

Jan 10, 2005

Hi,

I recently came across a DTS made by an experienced DBA and was impressed by the use of Dynamic Properties DTS Task used. As I understood the DTS was generic and if I'm not mistaken, can be easily transferred to another server/machine on an AS IS basis and without having to change any of the properties (server name, login, password etc.) for the source or destination server.

This seems to be a really neat feature.

I tried to put this to use but am having problems regarding how to proceed... Unfortunately I have not been able to find any article either which addresses this particular request and takes a novice step by step so that this feature can be used.

Will appreciate any help.

SSIS File System Task Problems Since Loading SP1

Nov 30, 2006

I have just loaded SQL Server 2005 SP1 and it is playing havoc with any SSIS packages that use the File System Task.

I am using the FST to copy a file to a directory after it has been loaded. This worked fine prior to SQ1 but now I am getting the following error if there are one or more files already in the target directory:

[File System Task] Error: An error occurred with the following error message: "The directory is not empty. ".

If I remove all files from the directory it works fine.

Has anyone come across this problem and got a workaround for this? Will it involve me writing a FSO script task???

Is this 'feature' going to be rectified in SP2?

SSIS Script Task To Check For File Existance

Jul 3, 2006

Hi all,

Let me apologize in advance for what I know is a very basic question,
but so far I'm not being terribly successful trying to find sample code
to learn from.

I'm trying to write (my first!) .Net Script in SSIS to check for the
existance of a file (since that seems to be the only way to do it).

I've created the Script Task, with the following settings:

PrecomplieScriptIntoBinaryCode = False (it complained at one point in time (possibly on validation))

EntryPoint = ScriptMain

ReadOnly Variables = ProductBuyListFileLocation, ProductBuyListFileName

ReadWrite Variable = FileFound

Now the ReadOnly variables have the 2 components necessary for a file location, i.e.:

ProductBuyListFileLocation = 'D:TestingProductInformationEnhancements'

ProductBuyListFileName = 'buyList.xls'

So, I'm now trying to check the existance with the following .Net Script code:

-------code--------

Imports System

Imports System.Data

Imports System.Math

Imports System.IO

Imports Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime

Public Class ScriptMain

' The execution engine calls this method when the task executes.

' To access the object model, use the Dts object. Connections, variables, events,

' and logging features are available as static members of the Dts class.

' Before returning from this method, set the value of Dts.TaskResult to indicate success or failure.

'

' To open Code and Text Editor Help, press F1.

' To open Object Browser, press Ctrl+Alt+J.

Public Sub Main()

'

' Add your code here

'

Dim FileLocation As String

Dim DTSVariables As Variables

If
System.IO.File.Exists((CStr(DTSVariables("ProductBuyListFileLocation").Value)
+ (CStr(DTSVariables("ProductBuyListFileLocation").Value)))) Then

DTSVariables("FileFound").Value = 1

Else

DTSVariables("FileFound").Value = 0

End If

Dts.TaskResult = Dts.Results.Success

End Sub

End Class

-------code--------

if fails with this message, which I'm not finding too helpful:

at
ScriptTask_6c9d28f1bd3045739c4237bd588e3835.ScriptMain.Main() in
dts://Scripts/ScriptTask_6c9d28f1bd3045739c4237bd588e3835/ScriptMain:line
28

Is it complaining about not being able to find/address my ReadOnly variable? If so, what am I doing wrong?

TIA

SSIS File Watcher Multi-Threaded Task?

The problem that I'm seeing is that if the process is currently processing in the pipeline while another file dropped, the newly dropped file doesn't get picked up. Is there a way to create a FileWatcher Task in SSIS which will spawn a SSIS job and return immediately for watching files?

Sql 2000 Dynamic Properties Task

Feb 26, 2001

Hi,
DTS now has a dynamic properties task in sql 2000 which at a first glance is pretty cool. However i do not know if it would sort out a particular issue I have.

I need to have a generic DTS package that pulls data from different locations based on the project selected by a user. The source is a btrieve database
The name of the tables change with the project, so for example the F24 project would have its source table named F24TACT and the IFO source would have its source table named IFOTACT.

I need to be able to dynamically retrieve the table name from a local SQL table and assign this name to the data pump for the data extraction..

I don' t know if this is achievable in DTS. I can retrieve the value into a look up variable but how can i set it at runtime ?

thanks
Tony

DTS Task Properties And Global Variables

Mar 2, 2004

Hey all,
I have a stored procedure, which need one variable as parameter. I am trying to call this stored procedure from my DTS Task and my parameter is defined as the Global Variable in DTS. here is the SP call within my DTS Task

declare @id int
select @id = DTSGlobalVariables('ClientId' ).value
exec sp_Update_DayPart @ClientId= @id

it gives me an error that DTSGlobalVariables function not defined. In this case how can i pass the value of Client Id which is my global variable to my SP.

Thanks in Advance

Need Assistance With Dynamic Properties And FTP Task

Apr 4, 2007

Hello,I am building a packge where an FTP task needs to pull down a singlefileevery day from a specific location. The location will only have theone file.The file name will be different every day. A sample of one of the filenameslooks like this:CDNSC.CDNSC.SC00015.04012007The file names will be different every day, as the last eight digitsrepresent the date of the data in the file. The source files will belocatedin a subdirectory called 'outgoing'.My first approach to this has been to use a Dyamic Properties Task tosetthe SourceFileName of the FTP Task. I tried using a sting GlobalVariableexpressed as *.*.*.* thinking a wildcard would work, but it didn't.What approaches can I take so that the Source Filename in the FTP taskwilldymanically update each day to get the one file?Thank you for your help!cdun2

How To Read Dynamically Sql Task Properties??

Apr 25, 2007

Hi everyone,

I€™d like to read the SqlStatement property for a Sql Task from a Script Task (previously Sql Task is executed) in execution.

Keeping on mind that such SqlStatement receives an input parameter.

Is it possible? I think so but how do I such thing?

Let me know if you need further details.

Thanks a lot for your time and thoughts,

SQL Server 2008 :: Running WinSCP In SSIS Task / Bat File

Apr 29, 2015

I'm trying to call WinSCP in a SSIS Execute Process Task using a .bat file to automate. SSIS is returning a generic failure error message ("Error: 0xC0029151 at Execute Process Task, Execute Process Task: In Executing "MyServerC$Program Files (x86)WinSCPWinSCP.exe" "-script=MyNASShareWinSCPFTP.bat " at "", The process exit code was "1" while the expected was "0"."). So now I'm trying to run the .bat file by itself. Unfortunately, the command prompt rushes by so fast that I can't see what the server is doing.

I can't find anything on the WinSCP site that indicates how to slow down the .bat file processing or log the remote server responses. I do see how to use the /log switch when using the interactive command line console, but that's not what I want to do.
