I have two instances in SQL on my machine. When creating a New Data Source in BIDS, I can only see the default instance. I have checked the SAC manager to make sure the second instance allows remote connections and the setting are exactly the same as the default. Any ideas? Thanks.

I have a problem that when I insert a date 06.04.2007 on my
computer it is interpreted in European style (meaning: dd/MM/yyyy)
and the same code on another computer is interpreted in American
style (MM/dd/yyyy). So on one computer 06.04 means 6th on April, and
on others 4th of June. The question is how can I programatically set
that all the SQLDataSources (or en every one of them separately) take
the date from the text box in one or the other way – not depending
on local settings (it does not matter for me too much which one -
just so that it always works the same way. It would be better for me

When I move it to my production server (Windows 2003) I get the error message"Data source name not found and no default driver specified "
The system DSN in ODBC connections works fine, or at least completes the test ok.

Hi, I have a task in hand to migrate (upgrade) from SQL2K named instance to SQL2K5 default instance. There are many intranet applications touching current SQL2K. I would like to perform this upgrade such that I don't have to touch any application code - meaning I don't have to change the connectionstring to point to new Default instance. How can I achieve this?
So, in otherwords, here is what I want to achieve:
Current Server: SQL2K: SERVER_AINSTANCE_A (named instance)
Upgraded Server: SQL2K5: SERVERB (default instance)
If I have both default, I could achive this by setting up DNS alias after migration done so that any call for SERVER_A would point to SERVER_B. But in my case, I don't have SERVER_A, I have named instance. Is there any solution?

Here's my situation:I have an ODBC DSN setup for Timberline Data (An accounting packagethat uses pervasive.sql) on my sql box. I set up a linked server usingthe supplied timberline odbc driver. I have two sql instances setup,the default instance and a named instance. On the default instance,the linked server works great no matter who is logged in using it (allauthentication is NT integrated). However on the named instance onlythe NT account that the MSSqlserver$NAMED service is logged in undercan utilize the linked server. All others get a ODBC error:"error 7399: OLE DB Provider 'MSDASQL' reported an error. AccessDenied. View 5 Replies View RelatedI am trying to set up a Named Instance of SQL 2000 on the same machine that has a default instance of SQL 7.0. The setup always completes and I am able to register the Named Instance of the SQL Server with which it was installed on. However, when I try to connect the users to the database, with both windows and SQL authentication, I receive a SQL server not found error. I have tried an alias setup as well as physically specifying the port number in settup up an ODBC connection.
Has anyone ran into similar problems?
Also, has anyone been able to successfully complete the process as mentioned above?
I have a server with sql server 2005 installed as the default instance -- I have a piece of software that needs SQL2000 to be the default instance. Is there a way other than install new sql2005 named instance and move databases to rename my SQL2005 instance from <machinename> to <machinename>sql05 for example?

I've created a SSIS Solution and have created Data Sources. I have two packages. One was created before the Data Sources, and one was created after. The package that was created after is using connections from the Data Sources. I want to change the package before the Data Soruces were created to use them, but when I right click in the Connection Managers pane "New Connection From Data Source.." is not an option.
Did I not add it to the Solution properly?
How do I get it to show?
Did I not refresh something?
Please provide the how if you figure it out.

It is a Production Server with 3 NAMED Instances and NO Default Instance.
Does anyone know if I can rerun the SQL Server Install and add a DEFAULT Instance to this box without disrupting the other Named Instances???
I installed SQL Server 2005 recently on a cluster. I didn't go for the default instance and instead I named the instance option. Now I would like to migrate everything from the named instance to the default instance, which I haven't yet installed.
Is this an easy process? What about the logins and the maintenance plans and jobs? Is there anything else I need to be aware of?

I've never had to do this, but when I downloaded the Web Workflow Approvals Starter Kit, it requested that I install the database into a User Instance of .SQLEXPRESS.
Now the problem is, I've installed it onto a default instance, so I was wondering whether you can create a named instance on top of a default instance... and if so, how would you do that?

I have several versions of SQL Server and have been using SQL 2008 on a regular basis due to this issue. Our SQL 2014 when I do the Import Data process, it opens up the dialog window, hit next, and the data source is currently defaulting to ".NET Framework Data Provider for IBM i" - when it does this it immediately errors out with:
"An error occurred which the SQL Server Integration Services Wizard was not prepared to handle.
Additional Information:
> Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation (mscrolib)
>> Failed to find or load the registered .NET Framework Data Provider (System.Data)"
It immediately crashes/closes the Import/Export wizard with me unable to change the data source to what I need it to be.
My 2008 defaults to SQL Server Native Client 10.0 and does allow me to change to that same option (at which point it errors) but it does not close the wizard.
I need a way to either:
> Default the starting Data Source to be something else
> Fix whatever error is causing it to crash - I am at a loss as to what the error is looking for
> Not have the wizard crash whenever it defaults to this source.
Any of the above solutions would work fine - but at the moment I am unable to use the Import/Export wizard at all in SQL 2014.

The box I am trying to connect to is running two instances of SQL Server.
There is a SQL Server 2005 instance which is the default. There is a SQL Server 2000 instance which is named 'SQLSERVER'.

However, I am having trouble connecting to the Default SQL Server 2005 instance. I have tried:

but it doesn't work. I have tried explicitly setting SQL Server 2005 to use port 1434 (as SQL Server 2000 is running on port 1433), and then used:

but this doesn't work either.
Am I mssing something here? Any help much appreciated

Why are the user databases that were created in the MSSQLSERVER default instance showing up in the newly created ALPHAONE instance? I'm successfully logging into the alphaone database as it shows as "DASAlphaOne,1xxxPport) at the top of the treeview in ssms. I'm logging in as sa and can edit anything.
The issue here is that all the user databases are shown and can even be edited. I created this instance in an effort to hide databases from whoever is not supposed to see.I was expecting a clean instance with only the system databases..Is there something that can be set to keep each instance's databases private into itself?
In SQL Server 2012 Instance properties ,database default location is not showing system drive E: which was my backup drive. How can I add it again?

getting msg below at the sql server . i looked at other posts on trying to uninstall SQL Native Access Client and norton antivirus. i could never find the snac on the add - remove programs and this server does not have a virus protection program yet.
here's the history of the installs on the server:
wanted to test a 2005 upgrade so:
1) installed sql server 2000 then sp4 then restored some databases to it - all OK
2) tried to upgrade to sql 2005 but ran into problems and left it at that.
had a disk drive crash on the d drive so lost the installs but not the operating system
when the drive was replaced, left alone for a while
then wanted to test a straight 2005 install
1) removed the broken 2005 attempt
2) removed the 2000
3) installed 2005 and got the error on the subject line:

i am attempting to run phpbb using ms sql 2005 on the same box but get the following error during the setup

i am not sure yet if this is an issue with sql, php or phpbb
php is installed in iis and has all the modules installed which the php msi installer supported. i can run php code but in this case when i'm running the install.php file for the phphbb setup, i fill in the values for the database and got that error
phpbb detects all the required server settings and sees that i have ms sql installed
any suggestions on what that error means or how to go about configuring odbc driver?
probably a simple issue. but i'm still new with sql stuff
I have a SQL server with SQL 2000 installed and running, in parallel with a recent SQL 2005 installation (viaa named instance on the same box, etc.) - What I would like to do is "decommision" the SQL 2000 installation and "promote" the 2005 named instance to the default- is there a way to do this?

We installed SQL 7.0 first, then SQL 2000. SQL 7.0 is the default instance.

I have SQL 2000 running on the windows 2000 server. The program reside on the E drive and the data reside on the D drive, my system files drive C got corrupted and gave me the blue screen of death, so I had to reload it from back up, but in doing so, my SQL "Local" default instance fail to load after I got the server back up and running. My other instances are running fine except for the Local. Is their a way to bring that back? or do I have to reload SQL default instance ?

I just installed Sql Server 2005, and opened the Sql Server management studio, and the connect to server dialog box popped up, i selected database engine, but what do I put in the server name box? I tried my computer name, and got an error, i tried localhost and got an error, i tried my computer name/localhost and got an error. I installed it as the default instance with windows authentication, and I verified that the sql server service is running, but I always get a login error. Can anyone help me get started?
