New Request Is Not Allowed To Start Because It Should Come With Valid Transaction Descriptor
May 9, 2006
Hi all,
We are getting "New request is not allowed to start because it should come with valid transaction descriptor" when using transactions against SQL 2005. As I understand it, it's a bug that occurs after some statement has terminated against the database; see http://lab.msdn.microsoft.com/productfeedback/ViewWorkaround.aspx?FeedbackID=FDBK46530#1
Now, I wonder if there is a hotfix coming soon on this?
"The request failed with HTTP status 405: Method Not Allowed" That Error i have all the time i connect my Windows Server Sp1, MSSQL,IIS 6.0 computer by adress http://localhost/Reports when i`m trying to access the ReportServer by http://localhost/ReportServer it give me blank page with : localhost/ReportServer - /

One of my MSSQL instances show me : The report server is not responding. Verify that the report server is running and can be accessed from this computer. But all services are working
I'm receiving the below error when trying to implement Execute SQL Task.
"The ROLLBACK TRANSACTION request has no corresponding BEGIN TRANSACTION." This error also happens on COMMIT as well and there is a preceding Execute SQL Task with BEGIN TRANSACTION tranname WITH MARK 'tran'
I know I can change the transaction option property from "supported" to "required" however I want to mark the transaction. I was copying the way Import/Export Wizard does it however I'm unable to figure out why it works and why mine doesn't work.
That is a SqlException I got at a... at System.Data.Common.DbCommand.System.Data.IDbCommand.ExecuteReader() Anyone an idea what THAT means? How do I cause it? How can I work around it?
"Windows could not start the SQL Server (RETAIL) service on local computer."
"Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion."
I am trying to start my SQL Server service and I get the above error. I am using Windows 7 32 bit. SQL 2008 R2 32bit. SQL has ran successfully for 2 years on this machine until a power outage the other night. Now I have this happening on two computers.
I have read every event viewer message up and down and searched Google for hours trying to find a solution. I have done so many things from changing dll's to reinstalling sql 2008 to trying sql 2012.
I uninstalled SQL2008 and installed SQL2012 and it had the exact same error message. It wont start that one process. I have read this forum and I see many instances of this issue being reported but none of them have been recent. I attempted to do everything the previous posts said to try and nothing has worked. I have tried to roll back using windows restore point, I have tried to change the servicespipetimeline registry edit in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControl. I have changed permissions.
If I execute multiple SqlCommands in a single .aspx, using a single SqlConnection, are all the commands part of the same transaction?
That is, if I say: cmd1.CommandText = "UPDATE foo SET myVal = myVal - 1" cmd2.CommandText = "SELECT myVal FROM foo"
cmd1.Connection = myConn cmd2.Connection = myConn
myConn.Open()
cmd1.ExecuteNonQuery() ' decrement myVal intResult = CInt(cmd2.ExecuteScalar()) ' select value of myVal
myConn.Close()
Do the UPDATE and the SELECT happen in the same transaction, or is it possible that someone else would have changed the value of myVal between these two calls?
If I send multiple sql's with ado.net in one statement (one executeSql separated by semilcolons), and the second one fails, will the first one be rolled back? or do I need to put it all in a transaction?
I received an alert from one of my two secondary servers (all servers are running 2012 SP1):
File 'E:SQLMS SQL ServerMSSQL11.MSSQLSERVERMSSQLDATAMyDatabaseName_DateTime.tuf' is not a valid undo file for database 'MyDatabaseName (database ID 8). Verify the file path, and specify the correct file.
The detail in the job step shows this additional information:
*** Error: Could not apply log backup file 'MyDatabaseName_DateTime.trn' to secondary database 'MyDatabaseName'.(Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.LogShipping) ***
*** Error: Table error: Page (0:0). Test (m_headerVersion == HEADER_7_0) failed. Values are 0 and 1.

Starting a few minutes later, the Agent Job named LSRestore_MyServerName_MyDatabaseName fails every time it runs. The generated log backup, copy, and restore jobs run every 15 minutes.
I fixed the immediate problem by running a copy-only full backup on the primary, deleting the database on the secondary and restoring the new backup on the secondary with NORECOVERY. The restore job now succeeds and all seems fine. The secondaries only exists for DR purposes - no one runs reports against them or uses them at all. I had a similar problem last weekend on a different database that is also replicated between the same servers. I've been here for over a year, and these are the first instances of this problem that I've seen. However, I've now seen it twice in a week on the same server.
Hi, I was trying to run an insert statement which has subquery, But it is returning the error like this.. Subqueries are not allowed in this context. Only scalar expressions are allowed. -------------- Is there a way to reparse the insert statement without have to assign the subquery to a temp value and insert it? thanks.. Here is my SQL.. insert into admincriteria values (nextID,(select id from nodetable where description like 'Example - Quality Analytics'),8071,2,'Failures by Customer',2,0,0)
Now, I checked and verified that my backup version of SQL Server is the same as the version installed on the computer I'm restoring too.
I have SQL Server on a production machine that I backed up and want to test a full restore on a dev machine to make sure it will work when I need it to.
Now that I've run the restore command on my tape backup and go to restart the SQL server service I receive:
Configuration block version 0 is not a valid version number. SQL Server is exiting. Restore the master database or reinstall.
I'm afraid I don't understand why this is happening. If the builds are the same, then shouldn't restoring the MASTER database have worked normally and I'd be able to restart the service now?
I am having problems entering info into my database. I haven't had any problems so far. But all of a sudden when I try to add info to some of my columns I get the error message:
"Transaction cannot start while in firehose mode."
My column type is nvarchar. I thought I might have the length set to low, but I set the length as high as 400 and can't fit the same length of entries as some of my 200 length columns.
And also there are no constraints or foreign key values related to the column. I even created a new column with nvarchar at 400 length just to test it and same error. I'm stumped...
I get this error message when I try to connect to Reporting Services via the Management Studio.
I can see my machine listed in the Server Name > Browse For More > Local Servers dialogue. But no luck,
Ive tried:
Servername: localhost Servername: DED1774 (the machine name) Servername: localhost/reportserver Servername: DED1774/reportserver Servername: http://ded1774/reportserver (from the rsreportserver.config file
<UrlRoot>http://ded1774/reportserver</UrlRoot>)
I've Googled the error message and found postings for solutions, but none of these helped. Can anyone suggest some simple steps I can take to try to find the issue and get the connection working?
I have 4 servers, 2 each for application (Dev & Prod)
DEV 1 & DEV 2 are standalone serversĀ
Prod 1 & Prod 2 are Windows Clustered Servers.
From one application to other we do Distributed transactions. Dev 1 - Dev 2 or Dev 2 - Dev 1 can start DTC and working fine,but issue comes when Prod 1 - Prod 2 or Prod 2 - Prod 1. I get error messageĀ OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "xyz" returned message "No transaction is active.".
Msg 7391, Level 16, State 2, Line 3
The operation could not be performed because OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "xyz" was unable to begin a distributed transaction.
I have tested Dev 1 - Prod 1, Dev 1 - Prod 2, Dev 2 - Prod 1, Dev 2 - Prod 2 everything is working fine only Production servers are causing issue.
I enabled all settings needed for DTC on Cluster MSDTC service but no luck.
I'm testing db to db transactional replication on a box ( all on the same box ) and the distribution agent fails with the above error. I know it's something to do with the physical server as this test works on other servers fine. SQL2k Ent sp4 on w2k3 ent sp1. ( clustered )
Server and Agent accounts are in local admins, tried push and pull, named and anonymous. Replication also fails if I use the default snapshot location. I suspect policy restrictions ( maybe on the sql service accounts ) Any pointers would be helpful - there are no errors other than above, sadly.
We recently upgraded a SQL 7.0 SP2 database to SQL 2000 SP2. The web server that connects to both databases (we have 2 up that we can switch back and forth) is Win2K with the SQL Server ODBC driver of 2000.80.194.00 (I'm thinking this came w/ W2K) But I think I installed the 7.0 client connectivity on the web server.
I have a few questions: 1. Any reason why this would happen with the SQL upgrade? 2. What is the ideal situation for client/server ODBC drivers / MDAC client.. If I have a SQL 2000 SP2 server do I install SQL 2000 client on the web server and also the service pack on the web server?
Thanks and please ask if you need more info.. -Kelly
We've run into a problem using SQLDescribeParam with the SQL Server ODBC driver (or SQL Native Client driver). The basic sequence that shows the issue is this:
SQLPrepare(select * from foo where col1 = ?) SQLDescribeParam(1) SQLBindParameter(1) SQLFreeStmt(SQL_CLOSE) /* NOT RESET_PARAMS */ SQLPrepare(select * from foo where col1 = ? and col2 = ?) SQLDescribeParam(1) SQLDescribeParam(2) ==> returns "Invalid Descriptor Index"
If I leave out the SQLBindParameter, then the last SQLDescribeParam works just fine. Also, if I make the SQLFreeStmt use SQL_RESET_PARAMS then it works fine. However, I don't have direct control over the ODBC code being used, so I wanted to see if this known behavior. I've tried a couple of other ODBC drivers that support SQLDescribeParam and they work fine with the above sequence.
I'm getting this "invalid descriptor index" exception while trying to fetch a record from the table. The query is "select * from <tablename> where <columnname> = 'xyz'". The column name is correct and indeed a record with 'xyz' value exists. The record is getting fetched too...! But I'm having this particular error while trying to retrieve a couple of fields with rs.getString(). The order of columns in the table is same as the order in which I'm retrieving them. And I'm not facing any problem retrieving another field which has width of 200 characters. I'll be very grateful indeed if someone can help me out of this particular problem...
2: Dataflow Task: Datareader--Script componant--OLE DB Destination (SQL Server 2005--a single table --always around 600,000 rows)
How do I set up a transaction where if there is a failure the Truncate Table command will roll back---and the OLE Destination (A single SQL Server table) will be left the same as before the load started.
Another question with that volume of data --600,000 rows will a truncate table be pratical in a transaction
I'm getting this when executing the code below. Going from W2K/SQL2k SP4 to XP/SQL2k SP4 over a dial-up link.
If I take away the begin tran and commit it works, but of course, if one statement fails I want a rollback. I'm executing this from a Delphi app, but I get the same from Qry Analyser.
I've tried both with and without the Set XACT . . ., and also tried with Set Implicit_Transactions off.
set XACT_ABORT ON Begin distributed Tran update OPENDATASOURCE('SQLOLEDB','Data Source=10.10.10.171;User ID=*****;Password=****').TRANSFERSTN.TSADMIN.TRANSACTIONMAIN set REPFLAG = 0 where REPFLAG = 1 update TSADMIN.TRANSACTIONMAIN set REPFLAG = 0 where REPFLAG = 1 and DONE = 1 update OPENDATASOURCE('SQLOLEDB','Data Source=10.10.10.171;User ID=*****;Password=****').TRANSFERSTN.TSADMIN.WBENTRY set REPFLAG = 0 where REPFLAG = 1 update TSADMIN.WBENTRY set REPFLAG = 0 where REPFLAG = 1 update OPENDATASOURCE('SQLOLEDB','Data Source=10.10.10.171;User ID=*****;Password=****').TRANSFERSTN.TSADMIN.FIXED set REPFLAG = 0 where REPFLAG = 1 update TSADMIN.FIXED set REPFLAG = 0 where REPFLAG = 1 update OPENDATASOURCE('SQLOLEDB','Data Source=10.10.10.171;User ID=*****;Password=****').TRANSFERSTN.TSADMIN.ALTCHARGE set REPFLAG = 0 where REPFLAG = 1 update TSADMIN.ALTCHARGE set REPFLAG = 0 where REPFLAG = 1 update OPENDATASOURCE('SQLOLEDB','Data Source=10.10.10.171;User ID=*****;Password=****').TRANSFERSTN.TSADMIN.TSAUDIT set REPFLAG = 0 where REPFLAG = 1 update TSADMIN.TSAUDIT set REPFLAG = 0 where REPFLAG = 1 COMMIT TRAN
It's got me stumped, so any ideas gratefully received.Thx
I have a design a SSIS Package for ETL Process. In my package i have to read the data from the tables and then insert into the another table of same structure.
for reading the data i have write the Dynamic TSQL based on some condition and based on that it is using 25 different function to populate the data into different 25 column. Tsql returning correct data and is working fine in Enterprise manager. But in my SSIS package it show me time out ERROR.
I have increase and decrease the time to catch the error but it is still there i have tried to set 0 for commandout Properties.
if i'm using the 0 for commandtime out then i'm getting the Distributed transaction completed. Either enlist this session in a new transaction or the NULL transaction.
and
Failed to open a fastload rowset for "[dbo].[P@@#$%$%%%]". Check that the object exists in the database.
I am getting this error :Distributed transaction completed. Either enlist this session in a new transaction or the NULL transaction. i am getting this error "Distributed transaction completed. Either enlist this session in a new transaction or the NULL transaction.".
my transations have been done using LINKED SERVER. when i manually call the store procedure from Server 1 it works but when i call it through Service broker it dosen't work and gives me this error.
Are there any MDS Descriptor Files associated with Databases Files? Are these associated with transaction logs? As per my information there are .mdf , .ndf and .ldf files.Could anyone please guide me ASAP,as there is an urgent requirement from one of the clients?
I have a sql select statement, then I have a datareader and I'm trying to loop through that reader and insert a record into another table each time until there are no more records in the loop. I want to pass the string "select @@servername" in the print statement, it throws error as:=
Msg 1046, Level 15, State 1, Line 3 Subqueries are not allowed in this context. Only scalar expressions are allowed. Msg 1046, Level 15, State 1, Line 28 Subqueries are not allowed in this context. Only scalar expressions are allowed.
declare @account_name nvarchar(400) = 'Mail Account'; IF exists (select * from msdb.dbo.sysmail_account where name = @account_name) PRint 'Database Mail Account ' + quotename (@account_name) + 'is already setup in the Server:= ' + (select @@servername);
I mean why such restriction? In such queries results will be only 1 so it does not violate the SET operation. correct??
I want to put some trace in the a UDF, so I put print in the function. IT gave error. Can anyone please explain why this happen. But this work with SPs.
