OK, I'm setting up my first database, and I need one field to hold very long html code (several pages worth of info each). Which field type works best? Someone told me "memo", but I don't see that option in MS SQL 7

here it goes: suppose we store 100 .txt or .doc files in sql server and we want that none of the files data should match more than 60%: the question which arises are
1. how do we store files in ms-sql (binary format or normal text)?
2. how do we match the files?
3. what code we write in c# for this purpose?
4. has this nething to do with pattern recognition?

I mean the [text] field values from another table is converted to varchar(max) and then to VARBINARY(max) and then to HEX value.
Why this error only when I try to insert to this particular column [[Conclusions]] ?
Other columns ( of type text ) did not have this issue

but when in the solomon program, it displays an ascii character between firstline and secondline like: firstline||secondline

How can I convert a datetime field to a date field in SQL in a way that excel will recognize it as a date type and not a text type?
I tried:
CONVERT(varchar(8),TASK_FINISH_DATE ,3)
CONVERT(Date,TASK_FINISH_DATE ,3)
CAST(TASK_FINISH_DATE as date)
**all of the above returned text objectes in excel and not date objects.
I am trying to drag data from Informix to Sql Server. When I kick off the package
using an OLE DB Source and a SQL Server Destination, I get DT_DBDATE to DT_DBTIMESTAMP
errors on two fields from Informix which are date data ....no timestamp part
I tried a couple of things:
Created a view of the Informix table where I cast the date fields as datetime year to fraction(5), which failed.
Altered the view to convert the date fields to char(10) with the hopes that SQL Server would implicitly cast them
as datetime but it failed.
What options do I have that will work?

Hi,
I am getting these errors from Report Manager. It seems that every time after the server has been idling for about 15 minutes, I would get this error message. I can click on other links and I am able to continue to use Report Manager.
Is there a timeout setting to help me resolve this or is this a bug with Report Manager? I just insitalled SP2 on the SQL Server and the Reporting Service.

Hello, I have a file I need to retrieve nightly from a web server, it's not a SOAP request. It's just a wget call to a remote php script that returns a csv file.
I can't seem to find a way to do this, I see ftp, and web service, but no web get type of function. Is this not available in IS as provided from microsoft, and something I'm going to have to write? Seems like this type of thing would be allmost as common as ftp.
If anyone has any suggestions, any help would be be greatly appreciated. Right now, it looks like I'm going to have to use an external wget.exe to get the file.

Sorry if this thread has been repeated but I cannot find a reference to my problem. I have read that apostrophes can be qualified with double quotes but that doesnt solve my problem. I am using SQL 2000 on a Windows 2000 Server trying to set up a job to email the results of a query. I have had no trouble getting it to run as scheduled but cannot seem to get the results out when I add a clause that filters out a text column.
This is the query I am trying to run from a step within a job inside our SQL Agent:

I can successfully run the @query string in query analyzer and it worked fine from SQL mail until I added the last clause to the step (AND requestresultstatus <> 'Success' ). I do not know how to get the 'Success' treated as text.
Any advice would be appreciated.

We have a text field which is being written to from a java app through JDBC-ODBC. But the data seems to be trucated in the DB. How do we store all the data in this field (the text being stored can be quite large) without it being truncated?

started working on a website in ASP that use mssql, i am trying to store large ammount of text, for now its just 10kk letters, the data type is set to text in the mssql db, but when i read it back from the db, i only get 7.7k letters, i know its not an ASP problem cause i print the var holding the content before storing it in the db.
my question is, is there a way to change the text length limit in mssql, or use another data type?

The simple goal I am trying to accomplish is to set a string equal to a field in my SQL Database using ASP.NET.I am just not sure what the correct syntax is to do so. It may be work noting that I am programming in VB.NET. When an user creates a new entry and his text is too long the entry is cut short and weird characters appear at the end of the entry.

I have an assignment and need to dosomething that should be simple, basically output the contents of a table to a text file.
I have been trying this syntax:

But I keep on getting this error message:

Is it possibly in SqlDataSource's SelectCommad to convert a text-type value to a date-type value (11/1/2008 (text) -> 11/1/2008 (date) ) , so that order by can be used. Or is the other ways to use order by correctly with text-type (date)values

In SQL 2005 if i was trying to insert some data with a text qualifier inside a text qualified field, it would work, for example:
"Name","ID ","Location","","Comany",""House Name" Road",
In SQL 2012, this fails with the error message, cannot find the text qualifer for field.
To get around this, we are having to import the data into a Dirty Data column of aTEMP table, ID, Dirty Data, Clean data - perform multiple updates and change the text qualifier and ensure they are only changed in the right places so we can keep the ". In this example, we changed the text qualifier to PIPES.
After these updates, we then export the data from CLEAN data back out to CSV, then reimport it into the origional destination table with a new text qualifer.
I have a column in a table that has a type TEXT,when I pull the length of a row it returns 88222 but when I select from that column it dows not show all the text in the result set.

I'm importing an Access database to SQL Server 2000.
The issue I ran into is pretty frustrating... All Memo fields that get copied over (as Text fields) appear to be fine and visible in SQL Server Enterprise Manager... except when I display them on the web via ASP - everything is blank (no content at all).
I didn't have that problem with Access, so I ruled out the possibility that there's something wrong with the original data.
Is this some sort of an encoding problem that arose during database import?
I would appreciate any pointers.
I am trying to populate a field in a SQL table based on the valuesreturned from using substring on a text field.Example:Field Name = RecNumField Value = 024071023The 7th and 8th character of this number is the year. I am able toget those digits by saying substring(recnum,7,2) and I get '02'. Nowwhat I need to do is determine if this is >= 50 then concatenate a'19' to the front of it or if it is less that '50' concatenate a '20'.This particular example should return '2002'. i've a reasonable amount of experience with MS Access and less
experience with SQL Server. I've just written an .NET application that
uses an SQL Server database. I need to collate lots of data from around
the company in the simplest way, that can then be loaded into the SQL
Server database.
I decided to collect the info in Excel because that's what most people
know best and is the quickest to use. The idea being i could just copy
and paste the records directly into the SQL Server database table (in
the same format) using the SQL Server Management Studio, for
example.
Trouble is, i have a problem with line feed characters. If an Excel
cell contains a chunk of text with line breaks (Chr(10) or Chr(13))
then the copy'n'paste doesn't work - only the text up to the first line
break is pasted into the SQL Server database cell. The rest is not
pasted for some reason.
I've tried with MS Access too, copying and pasting the contents of a
memo field into SQL Server database, but with exactly the same problem.
I've tried with 'text' or 'varchar' SQL Server database field formats.
Since i've no experience of using different types of databases
interacting together, can someone suggest the simplest way of
transferring the data without getting this problem with the line feeds?
I don't want to spend hours writing scripts/programs when it's just
this linefeed problem that is preventing the whole lot just being
cut'n'pasted in 5 seconds!

Can anyone point me any solution how to export a MEMO field from an Access database to a TEXT field from an MS SQL Server 2000. The import export tool from SQL server doesn't import these fields if they are very large - around 9000 characters.

(Note when I say "rich" text I don't specifically mean rich text, I'm refering to text with user defined bold, italic, numbered lists, colors, fonts, etc.)
We have a (new) system where we want a user to enter "rich" text notes into a single column using an editor embedded in our application (much like the editor I'm using for this forum) and have the notes displayed correctly in SSRS reports. We were thinking of storing the notes as HTML but I've just tried it and the report displays the whole HTML string, rather than marking up the text.
We are open to marking up the text using any mechanism, rich text, HTML, Word, etc. just as long as we can see it in the reports.
We also need to consider viewing the same notes via Crystal reports.

I have a MS SQL 2005 database with which contains a field of type text (external database so field type cannot be changed to XML)The text field in the database is similar to the one below but I have simplified it by remove many of the unneeded tags in the <before> and <after> blocks. I also reformatted it to show the structure (original had no spaces or returns)
For each text field in the SQL table contain the XML I need to know the OldVal and the NewVal.
