Newbie Help: SQL Server Does Not Exist Error

Nov 23, 2004

I've seen this question asked when I searched, but I didn't see an answer that looked like it applied to me, so I'll ask again.....

Making the transition from VB 6 to VB.NET and decided to take a stab at database programming while I'm at it. I bought "Database Programming with Visual Basic.NET and ADO.NET" by Sams Publishing and ran into problems in the first chapter. I've posted some questions on the microsoft.public.vb.database newsgroup and got some help, but it's still not working.

I'll skip some of the boring stuff and dive right in with what I've found out so far:

From MSSQL$VSDOTNETLOGERRORLOG

2004-11-19 02:29:34.71 spid3 SQL global counter collection task is created.
2004-11-19 02:29:34.76 spid3 Warning: override, autoexec procedures skipped.
2004-11-19 02:29:58.87 spid51 Error: 15457, Severity: 0, State: 1
2004-11-19 02:29:58.87 spid51 Configuration option 'allow updates' changed from 0 to 1. Run the RECONFIGURE statement to install..
2004-11-19 02:29:59.01 spid51 Error: 15457, Severity: 0, State: 1
2004-11-19 02:29:59.01 spid51 Configuration option 'allow updates' changed from 1 to 0. Run the RECONFIGURE statement to install..
2004-11-19 02:29:59.46 spid3 SQL Server is terminating due to 'stop' request from Service Control Manager.

The last suggestion was to uninstall and reinstall. I uninstalled VS and SQL and reinstalled getting the same error message in the log, but the message box said that installation was complete.

On the Server Explorer of the IDE, it shows my computers name (programmer) under Servers. When I expand that and expand SQL Servers, I see PROGRAMMERVSDOTNET. When I try to expand that, I get the SQL Server Login window with Server textbox disabled saying PROGRAMMERVSDOTNET and the Database blank. Under the Login it has James (my sign in name) and asks for a password. When I did the MS-DOS CLI installation, I used "password" as the SAPWD. I tried using password, and tried using the password to log on as James, and get the same error message: [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.

Any help would be appreciated, as long as you remember that I am a COMPLETE newbie at this. I'm fairly computer literate, but I don't know the first thing about databases.....

Thanks again,

James

The database is definitly in the folder that the error message relates to.
What I'm finding confusing is that the connection string seems to be finding "aranga"s database.
Is it something daft?

Many thanks.

Mar 22, 2006

ProjectDb is the database that i have setup in sql.

username is the account that can control everything as administrer.

in Sharepoint is asks for the database server: <<dataserver>>

SQL Server database name: <<ProjectDb>>

I'm using windoes authentication and then i click ok, and get the error message.

I've also see the error message can not find the SQL Server, and access denied. Under ODBC i have installed the sql server information under System DSN.

Any help would be great.

Not Your Typical SQL Server Does Not Exist Error...

Aug 8, 2006

I'm not sure which forum to post this problem in, since it almost seems like a network issue with our SQL Server. We have SQL Server 2000 SP4 (8.00.2039) installed on our enterprise database server. I've been using ADO (through VB, VBA, VBScript, C++) to connect to it without any problems. INSERT's, UPDATE's, SELECT's, no problems whatsoever... EXCEPT: After performing a number of repetative statements, my ADO connection object will error with the dreaded "SQL Server does not exist or access denied" message.

By repetative statements, I mean something like this:

cn.Open "..."

Set rs = cn.Execute(...)

Do Until rs.EOF
cn.Execute "Insert into ..."
rs.MoveNext
Loop

I may be doing 1,000 inserts within the loop, sometimes more. Without fail, though, my program will error after a certain number. I display a progress indicator showing which record (i.e., "10 of 1,000") I'm currently processing and it seems to error at the same number everytime. For example, it may get to record 564 before displaying the error. If I end the program and run it again, it gets to about the same spot (often it's EXACTLY the same spot) and errors again. So, it's almost like a timeout condition.

I know why the error occurs -- my machine can no longer "see" the SQL server. I have tried pinging the server after I get this message and it's unreachable. If I wait five minutes, though, pinging works and my program continues to run. I have coded around it (if error, wait, and try again) but it's very annoying.

Does this sound like a problem with our SQL Server, Network, ADO, my workstation, or a combination of sorts?

Need Help W/ SQL Server Does Not Exist Or Access Denied Error

Sep 17, 2007

Hi,
I'm trying to connect to my local database running on SqlServerExpress. I'm able to connect to it from SQL Server Studio. I'm also able to create a data connection to the database from VS.NET 2005 using server explorer. However, when I try to pull some data from my code, I get the "SQL Server does not exist or access denied." error.
Here's my code:
<asp:GridView ID="GridView1" runat="server" AllowPaging="true" DataSourceID="SqlDatasource1" /><asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDatasource1" runat="server" SelectCommand="select * from tStates" ProviderName="System.Data.OleDb" ConnectionString="Provider=SQLOLEDB;Server=.SQLSERVEREXPRESS;database=TestaDB;uid=sa;pwd=SAPassword" />
I'd appreciate some help on this.

SQL Server Does Not Exist Or Access Denied Error

Nov 15, 2003

Hi guys,
I just installed WebMatrix and MSDE (downloaded from www.asp.net), and I have set MSDE to use SQL authentication. I have granted user ASPNET read/write previlege and added it to the MSDE user's table. When I tried the following code, it gives me this error: "SQL Server does not exist or access denied."

<%@ Page Language="C#" Debug="true" %>
<%@ import Namespace="System.Data" %>
<%@ import Namespace="System.Data.SqlClient" %>
<script runat="server">

void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) {

// TODO: Update the ConnectionString and CommandText values for your application
string ConnectionString = "server=(local)/BERKELEY;database=emonopoly;Trusted_Connection=yes";
string CommandText = "select * from test";

SqlConnection myConnection = new SqlConnection(ConnectionString);
SqlCommand myCommand = new SqlCommand(CommandText, myConnection);

myConnection.Open();

DataGrid1.DataSource = myCommand.ExecuteReader(CommandBehavior.CloseConnection);
DataGrid1.DataBind();
}

</script>
<html>
<head>
</head>
<body style="FONT-FAMILY: arial">
<h2>Simple Data Report

</form>
</body>
</html>

I turned on the debug option, and the exact output is this:

The strange thing is I'm able to connect to the MSDE database from the DATA window on the right hand side of the WebMatrix design window. Will somebody give me a hand?

And yes, I did make sure the MSDE is running.

Thanks alot

SQL Server Does Not Exist Or Access Denied Error

Oct 4, 2005

I'm trying to create to set up connection between my web application on the server and
the database on another box and getting "SQL Server does not exist or access denied" error.
Both the web server and the database machine are Windows 2003 Server, there's no firewall
enabled, there's mixed authentication enabled on the sql server. The machines are not on the
same domain so I'm using SQL Server authentication from web.config. Here's my connection string:

<add key="ConnectionString" value="Server=sqlboxip;User id=sqlaccountname;Pwd=sqlpass;Initial catalog=dbname">

I've also got <identity impersonate="true"> set in web.config.

Had it the connection working at some stage but then with more tweaking and app reinstall
back square one... Please help!</identity></add>

Dreaded SQL Server Does Not Exist Or Access Denied. Error

Dec 17, 2005

I have built a web application that runs on my local web server against my local SQL server and my development server, but now I'm trying to get it to work on the live server and I'm not getting a connection.  Whenever I try to open the connection, I get a.
SQL Server does not exist or access denied.
error.
Here is my connection string...
Public connString as string
Dim SQLServer As String = "xxx.xx.xx.xxx"
connString = "server=" & SQLServer & ";" _
& "database=DBName;Trusted_Connection=No;user id=xxxID;password=xxxPassword;"
myConnection2 = New SqlClient.SqlConnection(connString)
------------------------------------------------------------
I'm starting my connection to run a datareader this way...
Dim strSQL As String

strSQL = "SELECT ClientID, ClientName " & _
"FROM Client; "
' Create a connection to the table in the SQL database located on
' the remote computer.
Dim myCommand2 As New SqlClient.SqlCommand(strSQL, myConnection2)
myCommand2.CommandTimeout = 1200
myConnection2.Open()  'HERE IS WHERE THE ERROR OCCURS
Dim myReader As SqlClient.SqlDataReader = myCommand2.ExecuteReader(CommandBehavior.CloseConnection)
While myReader.Read()
---------------------------------------------------------------
I can communicate with the server with no problem from my local computer.  I can ping the server, and I also tested it by creating a system DSN using the login and password in my application, and it finds the database with no problem.  I've tried to connect using the SQL Server's server name and the IP address and both return the same result.  I've also saw something in another post to set the trusted connection parameter to "yes" and that didn't work either.
I'm developing on a Windows XP Professional and I'm trying to connect to a Windows 2003 Server with SQL Server 2000 installed on the machine.
I did add the database by restoring a backup from my local server onto the live server.  I don't think that should matter, but maybe it does.  If anyone has any ideas, I would greatly appreciate it.

SQL Server Does Not Exist Or Access Denied Error When Trying To Connect From A Windows Service

Apr 10, 2007

Hi!
I understand that this topic is one of the most discussed topics ever. However i could not find the relevant information after going through (almost) all the posts so far. Hence this post. I am getting the 'SQL Server does not exist or access denied' error when I am trying to access SQL Server from a WINDOWS SERVICE. SQL Server and the Windows service are running on two different machines. (When they are on the same machine, it works). All the solutions I found so far are related to web apps. What should I do in the case of a windows service? My connection string uses SQL server authentication. (I tried with windows authentication. Its not working either.). Under what login does windows services run and how can I add it to valid SQL server logins?

SQL Server Admin 2014 :: Table Does Not Exist - Error Occurred When Loading The Model

Jul 22, 2014

The error is "The table with Name of 'Table Name' does not exist.An error occurred when loading the Model."

We get this error when we try to check the properties of an analysis server using SQL Server Management studio. We have resolved this issue twice by Stopping the SQL Server analysis service,removing db folders from Analysis Server Data folder and starting the services back on. The db folder that we removed was advised by the BI team.

The SQL Server Analysis Server is 2012 SP1

[Transfer SQL Server Objects Task] Error: Table XXXXXXX Does Not Exist At The Source.

Jan 17, 2006

Does anyone know what could be causing the error on Transfer SQL Server Objects Task?  I tried to develope a SSIS project in the Business Intelligence studio to transfer table between databases on the same server.  However, I have been getting the following error:

[Transfer SQL Server Objects Task] Error: Table "XXXXXX" does not exist at the source.

Is there a setting that I need to change to make this work?  Thank you for your help.

Error Message: Cannot Open Database.[DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen(Connect()).] SQL Server Does Not Exist Or Access Denied.

Mar 20, 2008

I installed SQL 2005 including backward compatibility, MSDN libraries and SP2 a new Windows 2003 server (chose mixed mode authentication). Installation was successful and I then installed an off the shelf database with Windows authentication which also installed successfully.
I created a new group in AD, added the database users into the group and gave db-owner rights to the group in SQL as advised by the installation guide. However, when I try to open the database it gives an error message saying "Cannot open database.[DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen(Connect()).] SQL server does not exist or access denied". I also tested it adding an individual user (myself) as a user to no avail.
When I set up DSN in ODBC on my computer I can successfully test the connection but can't run the application. The connection is via TCP/IP.
Any suggestions?

Can Not Delet A Publication In SQL Server 2005: The Publication Does Not Exist [SQL Server Error: 20026]

Sep 21, 2007

Hi, everyone,
I am new in SQL server 2005. I had setup SQL server 2005 P2P replication. Somehow it did not work one of two way replication. I tried to delete the publication. However I could not do it. have the same problem. When I tried to delete the publication, I got the publication " " does not exist.[SQL server error: 20026]. I tried to use sp_droppublication, it gave me error "the database is not enabled for publication". Nevertheless, I can see the publication in MS SQL Management Studio and Publication monitor with OK status. I could not find the distribution database either.

Could you anyone has ideas to delete this publication? I am sorry I am not a programmer. Please give me more detail explanation if you can. Thanks.

Newbie Need Help. Export Error, Null Value Error.

Sep 24, 2004

Hey all,

I'm currently using a shopping cart software called .netCart, which is in ASP.NET and VB. I have been trying to import my local "fully working" database to my remote server using Enterprise Manager via the DTS Export/Import Wizard, but then the exported remote database is not working with the software. Unfortunately, I have no prior experiences in MS SQL database at all, nor do I know anything about the scripts they used with the software I purchased.

Error message when attempting to run part of the software (website) with the exported database -

"Cannot insert the value NULL into column 'CustomerID', table 'tablename.dbo.Customers'; column does not allow nulls. INSERT fails. The statement has been terminated. [Customer Table]"

I simply used the DTS wizard to export the database. All settings are left "default" because I don't know what I should do about them....

1) At Specify Table Copy or Quert, "Copy table(s) and view(s) from the source database is selected.
2) Selected all tables. At the "Column Mappings and Transformations" window for all tables, "Create detination table" is SELECTED and "Enable identify insert" is UNCHECKED.
3) At one of the error table (i.e. Customers), the CustomerID int is NOT NULL.

Sorry, I do not know what's wrong with it, and I don't know how to explain it better technically. The software company do not support this as well.

I believe the problem is with the settings in the DTS wizard when I try to export the database. Something is not set right, but I don't know how to do it.

Can anyone please try to solve this problem for me? Thank you very much.

Temjin

Newbie Error

Apr 13, 2004

Hi guys,
Your help please.
First off, I have searched the Forum for answers using the keywords and tried those clues first but with no luck. This one for example: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q282254

I had a copy of MSDE installed on my machine about 12 month ago but never used it so I uninstalled it. Then I downloaded and installed SQL Server 120-day Evaluation edition a few days ago. When I tried to run SQL Server I get
An error 1069 – (The service did not start due to logon failure)…

I’m using Windows XP.

How can I find out what the password is or how can I reset it so the SQL Server logon works?

Any ideas?

Thanks Guys

Error: The Publication Does Not Exist

Oct 31, 2006

I had a publication that I removed from the Local Publications folder but it still shows up in Replication Monitor (with a red 'X'). No jobs exist related to this publication either.

Everything is working ok, but I can't get rid of this from the Replication monitor.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Newbie: Error-message Question

May 16, 2006

I got the error message: "The metadata of the following output columns does not match the metadata of the external columns with which the output columns are associated". What does that mean and how am I supposed to fix the problem?

TIA,

Barker

P.S. The SSIS UI seems extremely slow and sluggish (opening, creating connections). Any performance tweaks known? (I have 9GB of RAM on my box and plenty of HD space so I don't think that is it. I also have sql 2005, sp1 installed.)
