No Error But Results Not Accurate?

Aug 21, 2012

SELECT
ts.[EmployeeId]
,p.[FirstName]
,p.[LastName]

[Code].....

This query should show people that have worked under 4 days but it displays the full database including all the people with 4 or more entries.

It works if the [StartedAt] and [HoursWorked] Fields are not included but I need these fields included.

Containstable Not Returning Accurate Results

Aug 27, 2007

Does anyone lese get the same results that I do?

tblTest has an id field and a testName field....table has 2 records:
1 kevin test 1
2 kevin test 3

SELECT *

FROM tblTest t

INNER JOIN CONTAINSTABLE(tblTest,*,'"kevin test 1"') as A ON t.id = A.[KEY]

Result is both records returned, but since the search is in quotes as an exact phrase, should not just the first record be returned?

How Accurate Is GetDate() ?

Sep 26, 2006

According to MS, GetLocalTime() (in C++) is only accurate to approx asecond, even though it reports milliseconds, and calling it twice and computingtheinterval can on occasion lead to a negative interval. Is T-SQL's GetDate() more accurate than that, or at leastnon-decreasing?Thanks,Jim

Error_line() Not Accurate?

Mar 20, 2006

Hello,

I'm just trying out this new try-catch stuff in sql server 2005....

Using the example from the help, "Using TRY... CATCH in Transact-SQL" , it shows how things are done in the adventure works database.. loggin the error to the errorlog table and all that... looks great.. but I notice that when I implement this code in my project.. and tested by putting in a line that causes a divide by zero error... that the line number reported by error_line is acutally not the line at which the divide by zero code resides....

Any suggestions as to what would put the error_line out of whack? I have comments and some string literals in the code..would they be throwing it?

Thanks

Keeping An Accurate Count Of Events

May 16, 2006

I am newish to databases and would appreciate some
advise. I think I have a solution to my
problem but it is going to take me a lot of time to get it running. If there is a better way of doing it I would
like to know.

I have a table :-

“eventDates with
columns (id, date, eventID,
eventCount)

The id auto increments as a Primary Key.
date holds the date of the
event.
EventID references another
table with info about the events
Up to 9 eventIDs can be added
for each date and I want eventCount to hold an integer (1 to 9) to allow me to “pivot
the data to the table below

“results with columns (date,
eventCount1, eventCount2 …..eventCount9) so each row will hold a date and non
to nine eventIDs occurring on that date.

Is there an easy way to keep eventCount accurate or do I
just have to write a lot of code? I
will need to be able to remove events as well as add them. I will use a mixture of stored procedures
and VB.Net I guess?

Many thanks for any advice.

Restore From Log Backup: Time Is Not Accurate

Jun 17, 1999

I do hourly transaction log backups at 9,10, 11 etc...
When I restore from a 9:00 backup I clearly see changes that I made after 9:00 am!!!
I then noticed when I go to my scheduled backups that a 10 am backup was indeed done
but in the "restore from device" tab it says the last backup was at 9 am.
Apparently it is not showing the actual latest backup that was done. This explains why
when restoring from a 9am backup I am seeing changes after 9, because in reality
I am restoring from a 10 am backup!

Is this a bug? I am running on 6.5 sp 5a.

thanks in advance....Mary

How To Write A Simple, Accurate Stored Proc Timer?

Oct 25, 2006

I want to test some times it takes for a proc to run. Since I work for a large company, I rarely have access to the SQL server in a capacity where I can use profiler and such. Are there any quick and easy ways to just surround blocks of code in a T-SQL statement to get an accurate reading on how long it takes?I.e., if I surround with GETDATE() before and after, does that also measure the round trips to the server, or just the execution time.I want to just compare some different methods and see what is quicker. THX.

SQL 2012 :: Accurate Sorting Data Each Time With Millions Of Records Without Time Field?

Apr 25, 2014

Sample Table

USE [Testing]
GO
/****** Object: Table [dbo].[Testing] Script Date: 4/25/2014 11:08:18 AM ******/
SET ANSI_NULLS ON
GO
SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON

[Code] ....

It seems to work fine with one million records.

Each primary key is unique, but the begindate is non-unique, and i guess even if i use datetime2 and add nanoseconds, from what i have read, there is a chance that i could have a duplicate datetime since the date is imported via XML from multiple sources.

A Transport-level Error Has Occurred When Receiving Results From The Server. (provider: TCP Provider, Error: 0 - The Handle Is I

Mar 8, 2007

Hi,

Basically the error that I am getting is in our test automation when running as non-admin on the box (regular user). We use .Net C# SQLConnection class to connect to SQL express 2005 impersonating with admin credentials. After getting the connection we try to execute a select command and it some time fails with following error:
A transport-level error has occurred when receiving results from the server. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - The handle is invalid.) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlInternalConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection) at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.ThrowExceptionAndWarning(TdsParserStateObject stateObj) at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParserStateObject.ReadSniError(TdsParserStateObject stateObj, UInt32 error) at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParserStateObject.ReadSni(DbAsyncResult asyncResult, TdsParserStateObject stateObj) at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParserStateObject.ReadPacket(Int32 bytesExpected) at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParserStateObject.ReadBuffer() at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParserStateObject.ReadByte() at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.Run(RunBehavior runBehavior, SqlCommand cmdHandler, SqlDataReader dataStream, BulkCopySimpleResultSet bulkCopyHandler, TdsParserStateObject stateObj) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlDataReader.ConsumeMetaData() at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlDataReader.get_MetaData() at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.FinishExecuteReader(SqlDataReader ds, RunBehavior runBehavior, String resetOptionsString) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.RunExecuteReaderTds(CommandBehavior cmdBehavior, RunBehavior runBehavior, Boolean returnStream, Boolean async) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.RunExecuteReader(CommandBehavior cmdBehavior, RunBehavior runBehavior, Boolean returnStream, String method, DbAsyncResult result) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.RunExecuteReader(CommandBehavior cmdBehavior, RunBehavior runBehavior, Boolean returnStream, String method) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.ExecuteReader(CommandBehavior behavior, String method) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.ExecuteReader()

This happen only in the non-admin scenario mentioned above. Any idea what is triggering this?

Thanks in advance for all replies.

Error Connection Is Busy With Results For Another Command

May 18, 2007

I have looked at other threads regarding errors similar to this, but I think mine is a bit different.

I am using SQL2005 Standard Edition and my application is coded with C# using ADO.Net. OLEDB connection is used. The error occurs when the application has only one thread accessing the database. It does not happen consistently, so it is very puzzling.

I am wondering if anyone could offer any tip to diagnose this.

Thanks in advance!

SQL 2005 SP2 - Unexpected Results With Snapshot Replication - Should Get An Error

Jun 25, 2007

I am using snapshot replication to copy data from one database to another. I truncate the destination table first. The publisher and the subscriber are different databases on the same server. The data turns into 1 unrecognizable row.

Here is what the source table looks like:
displayTypeID, displayType
1, Title List Formats
2, Title Details
3, Title List Export
4, Pricing Notes
5, clone Mask 001
6, clone Mask 002
7, clone Mask 004
8, clone Mask 008
9, hide From Admin
10, not Common Attr
11, Insert Title
12, title Types

The resulting data looks like this:
DisplayType, displayTypeId
, 1660953600
I see no errors in replication and nothing in the source table looks like bad data that could cause such a malady. I see the problem on two different servers now and identified the source of the problem, the column order is reversed in the source and destination tables. The data types do not even match so I would at the very least expect an error from bcp.

A Severe Error Occurred On The Current Command. The Results, If Any, Should Be Ignored

Feb 1, 2008

I got the above error executing a stored procedure from .Net app and I isolated the issue on the following sql statement inside the sp. I executed the statement manually inside the MSSQL Mgt Studio and got the same error as above. Here is the sql statement:

the data file exists in the directory 'E: psdataazprohist.csv' . I'm running on SQL2005 version 9.00.3054.00. Any ideas what the problem is? Appreciate any feedback

A Severe Error Occurred On The Current Command. The Results, If Any, Should Be Discarded.

Aug 27, 2002

Hi,

I am hosting my ASP.NET application on a Host and after some time I get this error
(Don't get it on my development machine):

A severe error occurred on the current command. The results, if any, should be discarded.

And then it says this on the same page:

Exception Details: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: A severe error occurred on the current command. The results, if any, should be discarded.

An unhandled exception was generated during the execution of the current web request. Information regarding the origin and location of the exception can be identified using the exception stack trace below.

[SqlException: A severe error occurred on the current command. The results, if any, should be discarded.]
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.ExecuteReader(CommandBehavior cmdBehavior, RunBehavior runBehavior, Boolean returnStream) +643
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.ExecuteReader(CommandBehavior behavior) +9
ASPNetPortal.PortalSettings..ctor(Int32 tabIndex, Int32 tabId)
ASPNetPortal.Global.Application_BeginRequest(Object sender, EventArgs e)
System.Web.SyncEventExecutionStep.Execute() +60
System.Web.HttpApplication.ExecuteStep(IExecutionStep step, Boolean& completedSynchronously)

I thought this is a problem with max pool size and I did it max pool size = 5000, now application runs ok for some time and then produces this error but some times this comes very soon.

As a solution, I have to copy my dll in bin directory again and application restarts and works properly but then after some time this happenes again.

Please let me know whats the problem.
I checked all of my SqlDataReaders and SqlConnections are closed properly.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Rahul.

A Transport-level Error Has Occurred When Receiving Results From The Server

Nov 27, 2006

Hi all,

I
am trying to run a stored procedure which retreives 3 lakhs of records
and updates the data and moves few of those records to some tables.
Since the number of records are more , the time taken for the storede
procedure is around 30 minutes when i directly execute it in query
analyzer.

But I need to execute it from Visula Studio.Net 2005
(c#). Whole of the application contains only one form with a single
button. When I click on the button , this stored procure has to be
executed. But I am getting an error as shown below.
"A
transport-level error has occurred when receiving results from the
server. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - The specified network name
is no longer available.)"

Database used is SqlServer 2000

How to solve this error?. Any ideas are really appreciated.

Thanks and Regards,
Sukanya.

Executing A Sp Via ADO Which Makes A Reference To Linked Server Table Results In Error

Oct 17, 1999

Greetings,

Facing a strange problem, but obviously not expected earlier on, I am trying to execute a stored procedure via ADO which refrences a linked server table and I get an error specifying
"
OLEDB provider SQLOLEDB does not contain table "<DatabaseName>"."<owner>"."<tableName>"
"

Has any one else encountered this problem before ?

Is There A Way To Hold The Results Of A Select Query Then Operate On The Results And Changes Will Be Reflected On The Actual Data?

Apr 1, 2007

hi, like, if i need to do delete some items with the id = 10000 then also need to update on the remaining items on the with the same idthen i will need to go through all the records to fetch the items with the same id right? so, is there something that i can use to hold those records so that i can do the delete and update just on those records and don't need to query twice? or is there a way to do that in one go ?thanks in advance!

SQL Server 2008 :: Elegant Way For Returning All Results When Subquery Returns No Results?

Mar 25, 2015

I have four tables: Customer (CustomerId INT, CountyId INT), County (CountyId INT), Search(SearchId INT), and SearchCriteria (SearchCriteriaId INT, SearchId INT, CountyId INT, [others not related to this]).

I want to search Customer based off of the Search record, which could have multiple SearchCriteria records. However, if there aren't any SearchCriteria records with CountyId populated for a given Search, I want it to assume to get all Customer records, regardless of CountyId.

Right now, I'm doing it this way.

DECLARE @SearchId INT = 100
SELECT * FROM Customer WHERE
CountyId IN
(
SELECT CASE WHEN EXISTS(SELECT CountyId FROM SearchCriteria WHERE SearchId = @SearchId)
THEN SearchCriteria.CountyId

[Code] .....

This works; it just seems cludgy. Is there a more elegant way to do this?

Need To Display Results Of A Query, Then Use A Drop Down List To Filter The Results.

Feb 12, 2008

Hello. I currently have a website that has a table on one webpage. When a record is clicked, the primary key of that record is transfered in the query string to another page and fed into an sql statement. In this case its selecting a project on the first page, and displaying all the scripts for that project on another page. I also have an additional dropdownlist on the second page that i use to filter the scripts by an attribute called 'testdomain'. At present this works to an extent. When i click a project, i am navigated to the scripts page which is empty except for the dropdownlist. i then select a 'testdomain' from the dropdownlist and the page populates with scripts (formview) for the particular test domain. what i would like is for all the scripts to be displayed using the formview in the first instance when the user arrives at the second page. from there, they can then filter the scripts using the dropdownlist.
My current SQL statement is as follows.
SelectCommand="SELECT * FROM [TestScript] WHERE (([ProjectID] = @ProjectID) AND ([TestDomain] = @TestDomain))"
So what is happening is when testdomain = a null value, it does not select any scripts. Is there a way i can achieve the behaivour of the page as i outlined above? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
James.

Mind-boggling Gridview Results! Different Results For Different Teams..

Jun 18, 2008

Hi all, I have the following SQLDataSource statement which connects to my Gridview:<asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSourceStandings" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:ConnectionString %>" SelectCommand="SELECT P.firstName, P.lastName, T.teamName, IsNull(P.gamesPlayed, 0) as gamesPlayed, IsNull(P.plateAppearances,0) as plateAppearances, IsNull( (P.plateAppearances - (P.sacrifices + P.walks)) ,0) as atbats, IsNull(P.hits,0) as hits, P.hits/(CONVERT(Decimal(5,2), IsNull(NullIF(P.atbats, 0), 1))) AS [average], (P.hits + P.walks)/(CONVERT(Decimal(5,2), IsNull(NullIF( (P.atbats + P.sacrifices + P.walks) , 0), 1))) AS [OBP], (P.hits - (P.doubles + P.triples + P.homeRuns) + (2 * P.doubles) + (3 * P.triples) + (4 * P.homeRuns)) / (CONVERT(Decimal(5,2), IsNull(NullIF(P.atbats, 0), 1))) AS [SLG], P.singles, P.doubles, P.triples, P.homeRuns, P.walks, P.sacrifices, P.runs, P.rbis FROM Players P INNER JOIN Teams T ON P.team = T.teamID ORDER BY P.firstName, P.lastName"></asp:SqlDataSource>There are 8 teams in the database, and somehow the average and obp results are as expected for all teams except where T.teamID = 1. This doesn't make sense to me at all! For example, I get the following results with this same query: First NameLast NameTeamGPPAABHAVGOBPSLG1B2B3BHRBBSACRRBI

ErikGalvezMelville82625180.7200000.7307691.24000011322101015 As you can see, all teams except for Safe Haven's have the correct AVG and OBP. Since AVG is simply H/AB, it doesn't make sense for Gabriel Helbig's results to be 1.00000. Can anyone shed ANY light on this please?Thank you in advance,Markuu ***As a side note, could anyone also let me know how I could format the output so that AVG and OBP are only 3 decimal places? (ex: 0.719 for the 1st result)***

Removing Individual Results From A Paged Set Of Results.

Oct 19, 2007

Hi,
I have a web form that lets users search for people in my database they wish to contact. The database returns a paged set of results using a CTE, Top X, and Row_number().
I would like to give my users to option of removing individual people from this list but cannot find a way to do this.
I have tried creating a session variable with a comma delimited list of ID's that I pass to my sproc and use in a NOT IN() statement. But I keep getting a "Input string was not in a correct format." Error Message.
Is there any way to do this? I am still new to stored procedures so any advice would be helpful.
Thanks

PASTE SQL RESULTS INTO EXCEL - Funny Results

Jan 30, 2008

Hi, when I copy and paste results from query analyzer into Excel it appears that values with zeroes at the end loose the zeroes. Example, if I copy and paste V128.0 into an Excel cell it comes out as V128 or if I copy 178.70 it displays as 178.7 - any ideas? I'm using SQL Enterprise Manager for 2000.

Want Error Message To Appear When No Database Results Were Returned In GridView, Also Other GridView Issues.

Jun 12, 2008

Hi, I am seeking a hopefully easy solution to spit back an error message when a user receives no results from a SQL server db with no results. My code looks like this What is in bold is the relevant subroutine for this problem I'm having. Partial Class collegedb_Default Inherits System.Web.UI.Page Protected Sub submit_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles submit.Click SqlDataSource1.SelectCommand = "SELECT * FROM [college_db] WHERE [name] like '%" & textbox1.Text & "%'" SqlDataSource1.DataBind() If (SqlDataSource1 = System.DBNull) Then no_match.Text = "Your search returned no results, try looking manually." End If End Sub Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load SqlDataSource1.SelectCommand = "SELECT * FROM [college_db] ORDER BY [name]" SqlDataSource1.DataBind() End Sub Protected Sub reset_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles reset.Click SqlDataSource1.SelectCommand = "SELECT * FROM [college_db] ORDER BY [name]" SqlDataSource1.DataBind() End SubEnd Class I'm probably doing this completely wrong, I'm a .net newb. Any help would be appreciated. Basically I have GridView spitting out info from a db upon Page Load, but i also have a search bar above that. The search function works, but when it returns nothing, I want an error message to be displayed. I have a label setup called "no_match" but I'm getting compiler errors. Also, next to the submit button, I also have another button (Protected sub reset) that I was hoping to be able to return all results back on the page, similar to if a user is just loading the page fresh. I'd think that my logic would be OK, by just repeating the source code from page_load, but that doens't work. The button just does nothing. One final question, unrelated. After I set this default.aspx page up, sorting by number on the bottom of gridview, ie. 1,2,3,4, etc, worked fine. But now that paging feature, as long with the sorting headers, don't work! I do notice on the status bar in the browser, that I receive an error that says, "error on page...and it referers to javascript:_doPostBack('GridView1, etc etc)...I have no clue why this happened. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

A Transport-level Error Has Occurred When Receiving Results From The Server. - After Installing New Instance Of SQL Server 2005 W/NO App Changes

Sep 27, 2006

We've devoted a resource to this today, but I have to believe it's something easy that we're overlooking. The scneario is that we have a production Web application that until last weekend had a SQL 2000 back end. This weekend we installed a new instance of SQL 2005 and everything works (we tested in a sandbox environment, but someone must not have load tested enough) and never saw these exceptions. So, after the upgrade we now receive 100's of thexe SQL excptions per day:A transport-level error has occurred when receiving results from the server. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.)A transport-level error has occurred when receiving results from the server. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - The specified network name is no longer available.)Does anyone know what we've overlooked that's causing this issue? Thanks for any help!
