I've inherited a SSRS project from a former employee. I've gotten the reports moved to the Report Server on my local machine (which runs Sql Server 2005 with SSRS), and other users are having no problems viewing reports.
However, when I try to create a new Report Project using the Business Intelligence Project type in VS 2005, I can't view the RDL files in any way except plain-old XML. I have no Data | Layout | Preview tabs. If I create the RDL using the Report Wizard, I can still take the rdl files and deploy them successfully. But I can never edit them in Layout mode. Is something misconfigured or not installed properly? Thanks for your help.
I'm working on an invoice report, that requires borders around the whole report. I've got header, footer and body in the report. In the body section, i've got a table which shows line items for an invoice. So the table grows as per the no. of lines in the invoice. As said before I've got to have border around the report. I tried put info in ractangles with borders for header/footer and table with borders in body section. The borders appears fine for headers and footer ractangles but as the table grows/shrinks, border from body section is not continuous to the footer section. i.e. For an invoice with 2 line items the borders for table will appear for two lines only but i want it to be scratched up to the footer area regardless of no. of line items in the invoice.
I've also tried to use borders for header, footer and body sections itself rather than using ractangles. But then when i export the report to pdf and print from pdf, it looks fine but when i tried to print from report manger its missing right hand side border for page header, footer and body. I've made sure there is enough margin around report. Report body/header/footer are 19 cm wide that's mean the report still have 2 cm of space for margins. The left/right margin are 0.5 cm.
I've been trying to do various things for last 2 weeks but not getting anywhere. Can i anyone please help into this?
I'm currently using Sql server 2005 Reporting Services. I'm trying to take data and fill in a form that I'm making a background image. When I go to preview all the textboxes filled with data align with the fields in the background image form. When I go to print they are off by a inch or so horizontally. Can anyone help me on this topic.

My company is trying to convert existing reports to Reporting Services 2005... we need to have reports that export to excel with multiple sheets have the group name as the tab label. I can't find anywhere how this can be done. Can someone please tell me when this will be available? We have the latest service pack and still can't get this done... Our large customers are used to getting their reports this way, and the document map with sheet1,sheet2..etc.. will not be a suitable option. Any help with this is greatly appreciated.... seems I am not the only one waiting on this one...
I have a problem. I have developed a report. When i see the preview of the report there is no data coming up. On the other hand, when I deploy the report and execute the report from the report manager, I am able to see data for the report. It is pointing to the same database.
I feel i am missing something. Any help in this regard is welcome.
I am using Reporting Services 2005, Visual Studio 2005, and Oracle 8.x client. I have an issue when previewing the report in Visual Studio. I do not receive any errors€¦.. I just don€™t see any data. The strange thing is when I deploy the report and run the report in Report Manager there is data. I added the TNS and I set the credentials.
I designed a report in reporting services 2005. When i look at the view layout for the report everything is aligned correctly but if i go to print preview one matrix is shifted up or down. I have tried to put the matrix inside a rectangle but the issue is still present. Does anyone know why this is happening or any suggestions on what to do to fix it.
I am reposting this to a different forum, becasue I got not response... Using VS05 SP1 Pro SQL Express€¦ Take a simple stored procedure like the following to return a specific column from a specific row in a data table .... SELECT fld_IX_UserID FROM UserIDs WHERE (fld_UserID_Table_ID = @USERID_TABLE_ID) It works fine in Store Procedure, and if you create at table adapter to reference it, that works fine as well. Here is the issue. In the store procedure (i.e. under Server Explorer), when you execute the command to test it, it gives you the correct results. In Edit with Dataset Designer, Table Adapater, if you highlight it, right click preview data, it gives you incorrect results. In code, the table adapter gives you the correct resutls. In every case, Preview Results for a table adapter built on a stored procedure will give you the wrong results. This is clearly a bug and can result in a log of wasted time. Am I missing something? FYI, I realize I don't need to use the Table Adapater to execute the above stored procedure, but we are using table adapters for everything to be consistent. Thanks, Bob
In my SSIS package, I connect to an external SQL server database. This external database supports a stored procedure that I need to execute to "retrieve data". So in my package, I set the DataAccess Mode property of my OLEDB datasource to "SQL Command" and I provide the command EXEC <proc_name> <Param>,<output_param>. (The proc has an output parameter). The preview shows all the columns and data, but somehow no columns are returned....so when I try to link this data source to a copy column task, I get an error saying the source does not have any columns...any idea why this could be happening. Thanks - Manmeet
I have a .rdl file which I opened in visual studio 2005. I answered Yes to the prompt Microsoft Report Designer. . . Do you want to convert this file? [Yes] Then I saved the file.
The issue is when I am in Visual Studio and click on the Preview tab, I get the following error:
[rsErrorLoadingCodeModule] Error while loading code module: €˜x.ReportDefinitionsHelper, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null€™. Details: Could not load file or assembly 'AdvancedMD.Report.ReportDefinitionsHelper, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.
There was a <CodeModule> which existed prior to the conversion and the preview worked fine.
I tried to re-add the reference by clicking on the Layout tab then go to the report properties tab. Then, under references I clicked on the collection and browsed to the file which I wanted to reference and clicked ok, but I still get the error above when I click on the Preview tab. I tried to remove the reference save then come back in and add it again, but it still gives the error above.
The file I am trying to add to <CodeModule> (x.ReportDefinitionsHelper) references the following:
System
System.Data
System.Xml
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
(I can load the .rdl to reporting services 2005 and go into Reporting Services Manager and view the report without any issues.)
I've created an SSRS report in Visual Studio 2005 which runs fine in the preview. I have a list of server names which when clicked on expands to a list of databases on the chosen server. When I click on a database it then queries a table of information and displays information on that database. The query is something like:
SELECT * FROM MyDB.dbo.DB_info WHERE ServerName = @ServerName and DBname = @DBname
This works fine in preview mode. When I run it in SQL Management Studio via the Custom Reports menu it only works when the chosen server is the one that contains MyDB. I've run a trace and can see the query being issued when I use preview mode. However, when I run it from SSMS I don't see any query being issued to the database. This seems strange as it does return data in the instance described above and if I put MyDB into single-user mode it then complains that it can't access it so it is obviously trying to communicate with the database but not showing up on the trace. I've selected all events and only put a filter on the database name.
Seeing as all of the information is in the same table it seems odd that they query only works when the server name is the one where the database is held and that the query is not shown up in a trace. I'm running the report under the same credentials too.
I'm completely baffled by this so I'd be very grateful if someone could explain what might be happening here.
Happy 2008!!!! I am inserting data into a tab delimted text file using SSIS package. After data insetion some extra tabs get added between columns in some rows in the text file. Can we programmatically delete the extra tabs from the text file, if so how to use/implement the code inside the SSIS package? Any pointer/suggestions are welcome.
Hello I have come across a problem today when working with data sets/table adapter in vs05 for use in ASP.net. SELECT ws_Agent.Telephone, ws_Agent.Email, ws_Agent.Name, ws_Agent.AgentId, ws_Agent.forename, ws_Agent.surname, ws_Agent.Acc_PcentreID, ws_ProfitCentre.ShortCode, ws_Branch.Name AS branchname, ws_Branch.ManagerId, ws_Branch.Fax AS branchFax, ws_Branch.Telephone AS branchtelephone, ws_Branch.Address1, ws_Branch.Address4, ws_Branch.Postcode, ws_ProfitCentre.Telephone AS PCentreTelephone, ws_ProfitCentre.Status AS PCentreStatus, ws_ProfitCentre.Fax AS PCentreFax, ws_ProfitCentre.Email AS PCentreEmail, ws_Agent.Status, ws_Agent.DisableAccount, ws_ProfitCentre.PCentreID, ws_Branch.Status AS BranchStatusFROM ws_Agent INNER JOIN ws_ProfitCentre ON ws_Agent.Acc_PcentreID = ws_ProfitCentre.PCentreID INNER JOIN ws_Branch ON ws_ProfitCentre.BranchID = ws_Branch.BranchIdWHERE (ws_Agent.Status <> 3) AND (ws_ProfitCentre.Status = 0) AND (ws_Agent.forename LIKE @forename) AND (ws_Agent.surname LIKE @surname ) AND (ws_ProfitCentre.ShortCode LIKE @profitcentreshortcode) AND (ws_Branch.Name LIKE @branchname ) The wildcard syntax works fine when tested in the query builder when passing in % to the parameters , but does not work correctly NO RESULTS WHEN using preview data and in the subsequent use of data set in code. Can anyone please comment on this or is there a setting I have missed? Regards, Matthew
I am trying to install Microsoft SQL Server September 2005 Community Technology Preview.
I get the generic error saying "SQL Server 2005 setup has detected incompatibe components...."
So I checked the C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90Setup BootstrapLOGSQLSetup0020_Core.log file

I have a tried two different reports one with table and the other without The last textbox in both reports contains enough text which should fill half of first page and half of second page. In both reports the print preview and export to PDF keeps the first page blank and puts all the data in the second page. It appears that the textbox control doesn't know when to place a pagebreak when in print preview and export to PDF. The rdl file has no pagebreaks defined anywhere. Thanks in advance for your help!
I have a table which stores all prices for companies daily trading. Companies ABC & XYZ have information available for what was the high & low values for a DateID.
CREATE TABLE [dbo].[TestGrid] ( [ID] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL, [CompanyName] [varchar](200) NOT NULL, [DateID] [int] NOT NULL, [High] [float] NOT NULL, [Low] [float] NOT NULL
[code]...
What I'm trying to do is turn the DateID into columns and then as a additional change those columns represent the actual day of the Date ID How would i know 20121201 is equal to say Monday and 02 is Tuesday?
END RESULT:
NAME TYPE MONDAY TUESDAY WEDNESDAY ABC HIGH 0.5 0.6 1 ABC LOW 0.1 1.5 0.6
I am using SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services and Reporting Services with Visual studio 2005 Professional Edition. I have developed couple of reports in visual studio 2005 environment using report server project of business intelligence projects. In one of my report I am using MDX query which is created using Query Builder of Report wizard. Once I finished with report wizard a report created and shown with data, layout and preview tabs. I can preview the report. But, when I click on data tab there is no MDX query exists. After that I can't even preview the report.
I have several bcp output files I need to import into tables. I do not have format files for them. As far as I know they are in native format. I do not know the layout of the destination table they would populate.
1) how can I determine from the bcp file itself the schema of the destination table? Once I know that I should be able to import the data into the table.
Hi! I am new to SQL Server... looking for some veteran assistance.
"Data Integrity Report"
I need a Stored Procedure that takes a table name as a parameter and returns a cursor suitable as a data source for a pre-built Report Services report (I guess Report Services would call the SP?).
The cursor/report needs to have the following columns:
Ordinal_Position (I.E. Column number) Column_Name Number Of Blank Rows (how many missing values for this column in this table) Difference (Between total rowcount and population of this column)
Data_Type
Column_Length (either Character_Maximum_Length or the numeric widths rolled up with COALESCE?) Sample Data (The contents of the "first" row in the table, based on a TOP(1) and ORDER BY xxx) The report should look like this (for a table with 100 rows):
Col Num Col Name # Blanks Difference Data Type Col Length Sample Data 1 Name 12 88 varchar 30 Sally Smith 2 Address 34 66 varchar 45 123 Main St Apt 45 3 Acct_ID 0 100 varchar 4 AB12345
Using the "Information_Schema.Columns" I can get everything I need except for #3 (blanks count) and #7 (Sample data).
Is it possible to do this as 1 query, with a CTE or APPLY or something, or do I need to do a table variable based on the Information_Schema and then use dynamic SQL and row-by-row COUNT(*) for each column? And the same for the Sample Data.
Sorry for the long post, and thanks in advance! John
I have a package which has an Excel source with the 'Data access mode' set to SQL command and then a sql select statement. Â When I try and hit the 'Preview...' button below the 'SQL command text' window I get the following error:
"Error at Standard Data Flow Tasks [source tasks name]: No column information was returned by the SQL command"  Ordinarily this would be down to the fact that my SQL is shocking, I hit the 'Preview...' button whilst the workbook the source is pointing at was open and it works fine??  I can't figure this out, but needless to say the package errors with a NEEDSNEWMETADATA when I try and run it.
I am exporting SSRS report to Excel I am aware that excel doesn't show footer , It shows in print preview but my footer has text box which have text disclaimer more than 255 characters, the data getting truncated.
Hi, how can I remove newline characters and tabs from a char field in sql. We are directing the results from a query to an excel and having the newlines in one of the columns is messing up the whole output. thanks Zoey
Using System Role Assignment I grant a domain user account "System Administrator" & "System User" within Reporting Services.
Then I connect via IE7 to Report Server with the domain account that has been granted the above rights. The page comes up but the "Contents" and "Properties" tabs are missing. This user can use "Site Settings" and perform admin though.
If I assign the users domain account to the local Administrator group on the Win 2003 Server, then when they reconnect to Reporting Services the missing tabs appear.
We are a development shop, need some of our qa testers and developers to have admin rights within Reporting Services but don't want to grant them local Administrator rights on the server. This could also be an issue upon deployment at customer sites.
So how to get round this. I have been trying ACL's on the Reporting Services directorys, ASP.Net security etc but with no success.
I'm in Management Studio right now and I have two tabs called : "Table -dbo.contact".
As is the case, one tab is actually for the Schema of the table while the other shows the data in the table. (I'd also guess that if I was looking at a "contact" table from another database or server it would also be listed as "Table -dbo.contact").
Is there an option in Studio to provide more detailed tab descriptions?
I want to rename the worksheet tabs when I export the report to excel. The answer is NO with SQL Server 2005 but any luck with SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2? Please help.
I want a query which is used in sql server like access query
TRANSFORM Sum(Q_DayBook.Debit) AS SumOfDebit SELECT Q_DayBook.Purticular, Sum(Q_DayBook.Debit) AS [Total Of Debit] FROM Q_DayBook GROUP BY Q_DayBook.Purticular PIVOT Q_DayBook.CDate;
SQL query windows saves all the tabs in numerical sequence after you close each window. SO for example if you are typing query in window 1 and close it and open a new query windows it labels the new windows as SQL Query2 and so on.
What is the purpose of saving the SQLQuery windows like this? And how to retrieve all the windows.
I know this is an easy one. I have some how made the message and results tabs disapear. Now when i run somethinbg in the query window i don't see my results or errors.
