No External Columns Available From SQL Command?

May 9, 2008

Hello.

I have a OLE DB Data Source Component that uses an SQL command as the data access mode. On the Connection Manager "tab" of the OLE DB Source Editor I can sucessfully parse my query and produce a preview of the data.

However, when I go to the Columns tab I see no available external columns? Apart from the fact I'm using a union I can't think of any reason why I can't see any columns, it doesn't make sense.

Please Help.

Thanks

External Columns Vs. Output Columns?

May 23, 2006

Can someone please explain the difference between Output and External columns? I can't fathom why "Output" columns aren't good enough. In other words, what is there a need or value in having two types of "output" columns?

TIA,

External Columns From Sybase Stored Procedures

May 31, 2006

I need to execute several stored procedures on a Sybase server and copy the results to SQL Server 2005 tables. While using an ad-hoc sql statement the "Available External Columns" list is correct, however when using a stored procedure the list is empty. I've tried to work around this a couple of ways without success.

1) DelayedValidation.
I ran the sql from the stored procedure body in the OLE DB Source to set the column list, then turned on DelayValidation for the Data Flow component. When I switch to using a stored procedure it still connects to the Sybase database and removes the column list. Still does this even after turning on DelayedValidation for the sequence container and entire package (the OLE DB source itself does not have the option).

2) Using a variable that changes during runtime.
I copied the sql from the Sybase procedure into the default value of a variable. A script changes it to a procedure at runtime. This provides a column list in design mode but throws the error "The external metadata column collection is out of synchronization with the data source columns. The external metadata column xxxx needs to be removed from the external metadata column collection" and repeats for every column in the list. I know that the column names and data types are identical.

3) Manually updated the external/output columns list.
Was very painful and gave me the same errors.

It seems that DelayedValidation is the route I'm supposed to take, but I don't see how it would be any different during runtime.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

XML Source - No External Columns Avail-- Syntax Error In XML/XSD?

Jan 28, 2008

Hi All,

Hopefully someone can help me with what I'm sure is a very simple question (new to the XML thing). I receive an XML file from "someplace" that I need to parse out using the XML Source in SSIS. I have SSIS generate me an XSD document, as one isn't provided for me. However, after I do this, SSIS does not show any available external columns to pull data from- the "Columns" section of the source is just blank. I'm pretty sure this has to do with a syntax error in either the XML file that is being provided to me, or the XSD doc that SSIS is generating. Below are both (obviously with data dummied up). Can someone take a look and let me what needs to be changed in either file to get this up and running? I'm looking to grab the AccountNumber, RecordNumber, ProcessedDate, Status, and StatusMessage elements.

XML File:

Error: The External Metadata Column Collection Is Out Of Synchronization With The Data Source Columns

Apr 17, 2007

Hello,

I have a SSIS package with a Data Flow task. This task transfers the data from SQL Server 2000 to a table in SQL Server 2005.

I deployed and tested this package on the Test Server. Then put this package in a job and executed it - Works fine.

On the production server- If I execute the package through DTEXECUI, it works fine. But when I try executing it through a job- the job fails and it gives me following error:

Description: The external metadata column collection is out of synchronization with the data source columns. The "external metadata column "T_FieldName" (82)" needs to be removed from the external metadata column collection....

What I don't understand is, why are there no errors displayed when I execute the package through DTEXECUI.

Can anyone help me to resolve this issue.

Thanks.

I map the columns, refresh & OK out of the component without trouble, but on executing the package it fails during validation on this component. I'm utterly stumped.

Maximum Number Of Destination Columns In OLE DB Command??

Apr 29, 2008

I'm using 2 OLE DB Commands; 1 to perform an insert the other an update. I have found that on the column mapping tab, I only have 10 parameters available to map to. The issue is I need 40 parameters. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a setting I am missing? Is there another way to do this? Am I out of luck .
Here is the sql query I am using, so you can see that I have the correct number of parameters listed:

Insert into Reqs_Data (G_COLLECTDATE, PROGRAM, PRODUCT_ID, TOTAL, ADDED, CHANGED, DELETED, NOT_ALLOCATED, NEWREQS, MODIFIED, LEGACY, UNCATEGORIZED, NOT_TRACED_DOWN, NOT_TRACED_UP, PASSED, PARTIALLY_PASSED, WAIVED, FAILED, NOT_VERIFIED, PLANNED_ADDED, RQTS_TOTAL_TBD_COUNT, RQTS_TOTAL_MODS_IN_MONTH, BUILD_ID, RTM_PRODUCT_ID, TRACED_UP, TRACED_DOWN, ALLOCATED, LASTMONTHTOTAL, CALC_ADD, CALC_DELETE, IS_TRACED_DOWN, IS_TRACED_UP, LEVEL3, LEVEL2, LEVEL1, LEVEL0, IPT1, IPT2, IPT3, IPT4 ) Values(?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?)

Update Reqs_Data SET TOTAL = ?, ADDED = ?, CHANGED = ?, DELETED = ?, NOT_ALLOCATED = ?, NEWREQS = ?, MODIFIED = ?, LEGACY = ?, UNCATEGORIZED = ?, NOT_TRACED_DOWN = ?, NOT_TRACED_UP = ?, PASSED = ?, PARTIALLY_PASSED = ?, WAIVED = ?, FAILED = ?, NOT_VERIFIED = ?, PLANNED_ADDED = ?, RQTS_TOTAL_TBD_COUNT = ?, RQTS_TOTAL_MODS_IN_MONTH = ?, BUILD_ID = ?, RTM_PRODUCT_ID = ?, TRACED_UP = ?, TRACED_DOWN = ?, ALLOCATED = ?, LASTMONTHTOTAL = ?, CALC_ADD = ?, CALC_DELETE = ?, IS_TRACED_DOWN = ?, IS_TRACED_UP = ?, LEVEL3 = ?, LEVEL2 = ?, LEVEL1 = ?, LEVEL0 = ?, IPT1 = ?, IPT2 = ?, IPT3 = ?, IPT4 = ?

INSERT INTO Command (two Columns) With One Fixed Value, One String With Several Values

Nov 7, 2006

I have a string with values value1,value2, value3, value(n) which I would like to append to my table.
In the second column of my table I have a parameter which stays the same, so I end up with (if the parameter value is "123456")
Column 1   |         Column 2
123456      |         Value1
123456      |         Value2
123456      |         Value3
I would like to set up a single SQL statement which will process this regardless of the number of values (therefore rows) desired.
Something like:
INSERT INTO dbo_tblUserLevelApplicationRequests ( Column1, Column2) select EmployeeNumberParam as EmployeeNumber, ((stringofvalues) as valuestring)
Is it possible to do this with a single SQL statement?

RS2k Issue: PDF Exporting Report With Hidden Columns, Stretches Visible Columns And Misplaces Columns On Spanned Page

Dec 13, 2007

Hello:

I am running into an issue with RS2k PDF export.

Case: Exporting Report to PDF/Printing/TIFF
Report: Contains 1 table with 19 Columns. 1 column is static, the other 18 are visible at the users descretion. Report when printed/exported to pdf spans 2 pages naturally, 16 on the first page, 3 on the second, and the column widths have been adjusted to provide a perfect page span .

User A elects to hide two of the columns, and show the rest. The report complies and the viewable version is perfect, the excel export is perfect.. the PDF export on the first page causes every fith column, starting with the last column that was hidden to be expanded to take up additional width. On the spanned page, it renders the first column on that page correctly, then there is a white space gap equal to the width of the hidden columns and then the rest of the cells show with the last column expanded to take up the same width that the original 2 columns were going to take up, plus its width.

We have tried several different settings to see if it helps this issue or makes it worse. So far cangrow/canshrink/keep together have made no impact. It is not possible to increase the page size due to limited page size selection availablility for the client. There are far too many combinations of what the user can elect to show or hide to put together different tables to show and hide on the same report to remove this effect.

Any help or suggestion on this issue would be appreciated

Command Text Was Not Set For The Command Object Error

Sep 19, 2006

Hi. I am writing a program in C# to migrate data from a Foxpro database to an SQL Server 2005 Express database. The package is being created programmatically. I am creating a separate data flow for each Foxpro table. It seems to be doing it ok but I am getting the following error message at the package validation stage:

Description: An OLE DB Error has occured. Error code: 0x80040E0C.

An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft SQL Native Client" Hresult: 0x80040E0C Description: "Command text was not set for the command object".

.........

Description: "component "OLE DB Destination" (22)" failed validation and returned validation status "VS_ISBROKEN".

Connect To SQL Through External IP

Feb 20, 2007

have setup SQL 6.5 on a machine. I have verified that port 1433 is opened for SQL. I am also using a router dell 2300. I am running Windows XP.
I have set up my machine to port forward and have setup a static ip 192.168.2.136 nothing I do seems to work.

I can connect to the server by name

ex:
MyStr = "Provider=sqloledb;Data Source=MYSQLPC,1433;Network Library=DBMSSOCN;Initial Catalog=master;User ID=myusername;Password=password;"

Conn.open MyStr

I can also connect using internal IP address

ex:
MyStr = "Provider=sqloledb;Data Source=192.168.2.136,1433;Network Library=DBMSSOCN;Initial Catalog=master;User ID=username;Password=password;"

Conn.open MyStr

but when I try to connect to the external IP 12.xxx.xxx.xxx
I get the dreaded sql does not exist error.

I can register the server by external ip. When I try to start the server I get an (RPC server unavailable) error.

I can ping the external ip.

I can telnet 192.168.2.136 1433 without error

I can connect though security manager using 12.xxx.xx.xx

I can't telnet 12.xxx.xx.xx.

I think its router but I do not know what I'm missing. I have static ip 192.68.136 set up.

Router Port Forward Settings

Service Enabled In Port Dest Addy Dest Port Type
MSSQLSER Y 1433-1434 192.168.2.136 1433-1433 TCP
MSSQLSER Y 1434-1434 192.168.2.136 1434-1434 UDP

I have also read that some ISP's block port 1433 due to the worm problem. So I changed the listining port from 1433 to 1971. I am still able to connect using this new port with local ip or local name. I still cannot connect to external IP. (I did change router setting to reflect new port forward to 1971)

I am not sure what I missing.
Thanks in advance for any help

External Connections

Oct 15, 2007

Hi Experts,

I am looking for some guidance on the following CE based project. The project would mean placing a program on multiple appliances (either PDA mrtphone) which would then periodically connect onto a SQL 2005 server and both read and right to a table on the server. This would mean multiple connections to the server.

I have read various articles which discuss the use of SQL_ce to achieve this but SQL_ce is a single user application. Is it possible to achieve this objective by publishing a share of the SQL 2005 database tables to an internet share folder to allow multiple external connections? Also if it is possible can I test the application on a windows XP platform?

Thanks in advance,
Joe

Hello,First, I tried to find the answet to this question, but no luck - so I decided to post it.
When I was creating my applications in asp.net  - for the first time I decided to start using external DataSets. I think they are great and work very nice! But once I pushed the application to GoDaddy, I got an error of this nature:I was trying to access the exterbal dataSet like this:Dim productsAdapter As New NorthwindTableAdapters.ProductsTableAdapter()
Dim products as Northwind.ProductsDataTable...And got an error saying that it couldn't find this type (but it worked fine on my local machine in visual studio). So did I miss something that prevented this application working on GoDaddy? or there are some limitations on GoDaddy? ...or something else.Thank you for looking into this for me.Valera

How Can I Read One External File (*.txt,*.csv) Through

Dec 14, 2001

How can I read one external file (*.txt,*.csv) through
stored procedure in MS Sql Server 2000 ?

On the database Interbase its very simple :

[CREATE TABLE table [EXTERNAL [FILE] ’ <filespec>’]
( <col_def> [, <col_def> | <tconstraint> …]);
EXTERNAL [FILE]“<filespec>
” Declares that data for the table under creation resides
in a table or file outside the database;
<filespec> is the complete file specification of the
external file or table]

Please advice

Thanks

I have been developing an app using SQL Server 2000 and am ready to transfer to a server located offsite. How can I connect to this server through enterprise manager or anything else so that I can use the copydatabase wizard to move it to the live server?

Thanks

Restore From External Backups

Jan 29, 2004

Hi everyone,

I have a problem with my MS SQL Server 2000 (SP2). My task is to restore a backup from a database on another computer.

The server makes a backup everyday. If this server gets a hardware problem there must be a chance to replace it by another server which is made by the backup files.

In this scenario I don't have the possibility to copy the whole folder of the old server.

Is it possible to restore the bakup so that the new server looks like the old one?

Thanks for every response.

Linking External Tables

May 7, 2004

Hi I am a complete sql newbie :)
With that being said I am trying for the life of me to link to a table in another sql database.

For some reason its not letting me link the table instead it is creating a query of the table.

I used the Access upsizing wizard and the access front end.

*grumbles - just wish I could find the upgrading handbook that tells you if you used to do it this way now do it this way*

Thanks
Sara
