No Support For SQL Server Authentication And SSIS !!!!
Dec 21, 2005
Hi
I want to manage my servers from a central location and have the ability to manage my packges too. Unfortunatley my servers are across domains which means I have to use SQL Server Login, which isn't a bad thing. However for some bizzare reason I can't connect to Integration Services using this method, only windows authentication which is a complete pain in the butt from a management stand point as I have to copy packages to various servers rather than add them from a central point.
Does anyone know if this bug/feature or what ever Microsoft is calling it will be fixed or know of any workarounds.
I am creating SSIS packages on the fly using C#.net. I need to save SSIS packages on a SQL Server using windows authentication. I have found a way to save the package using SQL authentication Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.Application .SaveToSqlServer(Package pkg,IDTSEvents evts, string serverName, string serverUserName, string serverPassword)
Can you give me a solution for saving SSIS packages using windows authentication, as it is a must in my project.
This is really a question for MS. Will the VS2005 project types for SSIS projects be installable in VS2008.
A lot of work has gone into VS2008 to allow developers to develop .net2.0 - .Net 3.0 applications in the same environment. It would be a same if us data folk have to keep VS2005 around to support SSIS 2005 projects.
When I connect to an Excel 2007 workbook using the new Microsoft.ACE.Oledb.12.0 provider in SSIS 2005, I notice that any tables that I've created in the worksheet are not recognized in SSIS.
In the OLE DB data source component (using the "Table or View" data access mode) the any table(s) I've created are nowhere to be found in the drop down list. Similarly, when I constuct a simple SQL query on the workbook, such as "SELECT * From MyTable" it returns the error:
Microsoft Office Access Database Engine Hresult: 0x80004005 Description: "The Microsoft Access database engine could not find the object 'MyTable'. Make sure the object exists and that you spell its name and the path name correctly."
I know I have the name right -- I can use structured references to my named table in the worksheet without any problems.
Does the new ACE provider not support Excel 2007 tables? Am I stuck with using "overlapping" cell references to capture data from tables in my worksheet?
I'm planning to consider writing a SSIS package for a new project that requires downloading large chunk of data and transform into the diverse databases such as MS SQL or Oracle depending on the Client's Datbase.
For the clients having SQL Server installed at their end, i had no issues in deploying this package on their server and run it in their licensed instance.
What should be the case for others having Oracle database? Wouldn't installing the SQL 2005 client tools install the necessary run-time services for running SSIS packages? What i understood from the MSDN library (http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms403355.aspx) is that there's no run-time support available for running the SSIS packages (unlike DTS run-time support) in production environment!
Would that mean that it requires a SQL Standard edition, at minimum, (as Integration Services is OOTB from Standard Edition onwards) to be installed at the production site to run this package?
If so, the client wouldn't be ready (which is fair too) to buy the new license just to run this package. Is there any work-around/suggestions for this case?
If not, can somebody please point me to the right location where i can download the run-time support for running SSIS packages?
For using different services of SQL SERVER 2005 which is better... Windows Authentication or SQL Server Authentication? what are the advantages and disadvantages of both?
When I try to connect to SSIS from Management Studio, I only get Windows authentication options. Is that the only connection method supported? I support remote clients of which I'm not a member of their domain.
hi guys, do you know if we can use sql authentication to connect to SSIS through SSMS. right now it's only windows authentication, and SQL authentication is grayed out.
Not sure if this question has already been answered because it sounds like easy question.
Reader Community I've just started hosting my newly created Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition web site. Unfortunately the Login group membership functions will not function correctly. Having contacted the web service hosting provider, They replied: "We do not support SQL express2005. The only way to use the extra functions of ASP.NET2 such as group membership is if it is using an SQL 2000 database to connect to. " Is it possible to design web sites with Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition that store membership details on an SQL 2000 database? I've just paid £88 approx. $140 for a years subscription, have I chosen the wrong web service hosting provider? Should I have designed the web site with a better web site design software tool that also makes designing membership login functionality easy, just as Microsoft Visual Web developer 2005 express edition? Look forward to all comments? Regards
I wonder if it is possible to set forms authentication for report manager but leave report server "as it is". I need to authenticate users from external LDAP and can't use windows authentication for report manager, but I would also like to leave report server open for anonymous users. In that way authenticated administrators could create reports which anonymous users could read.
I tested the Security Extension Sample and got it working when I rewrote the authentication part with my own LDAP authentication.
If I have understood correctly, the report manager is just application inside report server so is it possible to use forms authentication with one application but still leave the report server with Windows authentication?
I have a ssis package with an oledb connection using windows authentication. i want to understand when i promote this package to the server and add it to a job, then a user login to the server with sql server authentication and run this job. Which/what windows authentication this package gonna to use to connect to the server ?
I need to figure out what kind of Authentication , I need to use for following applicaiton
Product : -
1 ) It resides on a its Domain and has access to Database on that Domain. 2 ) We have a application level login , n based on application login id display specific pages.
The question that bother me is this
Q ) If i use NT authentication , then a user will be required to
a ) Login to domain (with userid and password) first and then
b ) Then i would require to again login to applicaiton with application level login and password.(different levels of login as there) Based on the application level login i will display only specific asp pages. They have different access rights..and roles.
Requirment is to login only once..and it should authenticate to application display specific pages and authenticate to SQl server database also..
Is there any way thru which i can map my application level login to SQl server.. and what authentication should i use..
I folks.I Have installed sql server 2005 express and choosed windowsauthentication on instalation, but i make a mistake and now i needmixed authentication, how can i modify this whithout uninstall andinstall again the application?thanks for the help.

(Using win2k, sqlserver2k, framework 1.1) I have an fairly data-heavy application that uses Windows authentication (Trusted connection/aspnet account) to connect to Sql Server. The site uses IIS basic authentication.
On the dev server everything works fine but when I move to the live server things get strange and it starts to crawl along. (Pages load OK but then it just crawls as it loads the datagrids etc. Sometimes it brings back incomplete/incorrect data )
BUT When I use Sql Authentication to connect to Sql Server and there is no problem at all!
Ok, there is something obviously wrong with the live server (which is identical setup to dev)but I dont know where to start.
I've got two applications which both have a database on my MS SQL 2000 server. The problem is, one application must use Windows Integrated Authentication (which it is currently using and cannot be changed) whilst the other application which I'm trying to configure must use a SQL password.
Since the server has already been configured to use Windows Integrated Authentication for the existing database and application, how do I configure the other database to use the SQL password?
My work is using a shared application which accesses a MSSQL 2000 database. To access the application, the folder on the Windows 2003 Server is shared and users can access the folder through a shared drive.
For the application to access the database, it uses an ODBC connection to the MSSQL server which originally used the SA password.
We have recently switched to using Windows Integrated Authentication because we believe it offers a higher level of security. However the only way in which we have been able to enable this is to add the windows users to the SQL server.
The problem with this is that the application sets permissions for individual users on what records they can see within the database. We have found that by adding the windows users to the SQL Server, they can bypass the permissions the set by the application by simply using any application that can use an ODBC connection, such as Enterprise Manager, and see all the database.
One way around this would be to set up domains of users with access privileges to the tables which reflect the permissions set by the application, and configuring a view of the data so they may only see the records that they have permissions to. However to do this would require a high administrative cost to ensure that changes made in the application are reflected in the privileges of the SQL server.
Instead, is there a way the SQL server can authenticate that the ODBC connection is coming from the correct application using Windows Integrated Authentication?
This would allow the applcation to determine security, and stop users from connecting to the SQL server using other applications.
Alternatively, can the SQL server, using Windows Integrated Authentication, also ask the application to supply a username and password?
Any help with this matter would be greatly appreciated.
UAT environment : SQL Server 2008 R2 SP3 Enterprise Edition
SANDBOX environment : SQL Server 2008 R2 SP3 Standard Edition
I have a database backup (.bak) that was taken from UAT environment that has CDC enabled on some tables. I want to restore that database into my SANDBOX environment which does not support CDC (because of standard edition). The restore process fails due to this incompatibility. Is there any way to restore without CDC (I dont CDC enabled on my SANDBOX; just my data from the backup) ?
Hi, I'm trying to convert our application and support additional east asian languages such as chinese simplified, japanese and korean. I know how to make the asp.net side work by support UTF-8 / global resource files / UICulture and whatever. But what do I have to do on the Sql Server side? I tested a few samples and i'm getting garbage characters after entring some chinese/japanese characters. Another unrelated question, I wrote some custom store procedures (dyanmically concatnated strings), I dont' have sql server 2005, so I'm wondering if I deploy it to sql server 2005, will 2005 be backward compatiable with 2000? I don't have any triggers and stuff, so I'm just wondering if you know anything about it. Thanks.
How many processors can SQL server 7.0 support? If the sql server box has 2 CPUs, will sql server 7.0 utilize both ? or sql server use one and NT use the other?
I am using MS SQL Server 2005 n Visual Studio dot net 2005, When starting the managment studio i connect using windows authentication but the problem arises when i need to open an oledbconnection via ado.net with the syntax: oconn=new oledbconnection(provider=;data source=,user id=,password equal) since windows doesnt include any password i cant use the user id and password fields which causes errors althugh i created a password for my windows account the same stuff again is there any problem to change the connection method from windows authentication to sql server authentication and how can i create a login id and password. thank you
