Non Duplicate Check Between Two Tables?

Apr 22, 2005

What I am trying to do is this. I have two tables that someone else created and now I have to fix there mess. Both tables have 3 like fields. I want to check and see if the ProjectNumber field from the Artifacts table does not find a match in the Projects table. If no match is found return the record from artifacts table.

Code:

SELECT *
FROM Artifacts INNER JOIN Project ON Artifacts.ProjectNumber = Project.ProjectNumber
WHERE Artifacts.ProjectNumber NOT IN (Project.ProjectNumber);

The next thing I have to do is insert a record of the three fields from the Artifacts table to the Projects table. Any help would be great.

Interesting Variation Of Duplicate Check Help Please

Feb 9, 2007

Good morning all,

I have been tasked with an interesting problem using SQL 2005. Simplified it looks like this: I have two tables both well over a million rows, totalling unrelated keys between the tables. I need to find records in table one that do not exist in table two, the twist is this, I need to find rows where the invoice number in table 1 does not exist at all in table 2 or where the invoice number exists but the timestamp associated with the invoice in table 2 is more than 10secs different than the invoice/timestamp in table 1. I'm fairly new to sql and, although I can do the really simple stuff, this one is over my head I'm afraid. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. I would also like to hear any suggestions regarding books that might give examples of sql code at around this level of difficulty. Thanks in advance for your assistance! Paul

Check For Duplicate Entries In One Field

Oct 17, 2005

Obviously, I'm a complete n00b at SQL.

I have a table in Access 2003 with about 6,000 records and there are about 20 records that have duplicate data in the first field (CompID).

I'm trying to make the first field my primary key, so I need to fix these duplicate entry.

I could export to Excel and fix the problem that way, but in the interest of learning SQL I want to figure out how to do it properly.

Thanks in advance for what is hopefully a simple answer.

Duplicate Tables

Jun 24, 2008

We are using SQL 2005 to drive a database application. All of the tables are supposed to be owned by user1, so the full table names should be user1.table1, user1.table2, etc.

We have a situation where we have duplicate tables:

dbo.table1
user1.table1
dbo.table2
user1.table2
dbo.table3
user1.table3

This has always been strange, but hasn't really caused many issues.

Part of the application is querying a table called "TOTALS" and the query isn't retunring any data. dbo.TOTALS is empty (since it shouldn't exist) and user.TOTALS has all of our information. Since nothing is being returned by the select query that is just being run against "TOTALS," I would assume it is actually running against dbo.TOTALS.

How can I force SQL to run

SELECT * (actually complex criteria, but * should work for this purpose)
FROM TOTALS

to actually run against user1.TOTALS without changing the query since that can't be altered?

Additionally, is there an effecient way to delete all of the dbo owned tables (this database has several hundred tables)?

Deleting Duplicate Records From Lots Of Tables

Aug 29, 2006

Hi All,

So.. I'm a complete newb to SQL stuff.

I managed to find the 'Deleting Duplicate Records' from SQLTeam.com (thanks, by the way!!).. I managed to modify it for one of my tables (one of 14).

-- Add a new column

Alter table dbo.tblMyDocsSize add NewPK int NULL
go

-- populate the new Primary Key
declare @intCounter int
set @intCounter = 0
update dbo.tblMyDocsSize
SET @intCounter = NewPK = @intCounter + 1

-- ID the records to delete and get one primary key value also
-- We'll delete all but this primary key
select strComputer, strATUUser, RecCount=count(*), PktoKeep = max(NewPK)
into #dupes
from dbo.tblMyDocsSize
group by strComputer, strATUUser
having count(*) > 1
order by count(*) desc, strComputer, strATUUser

-- delete dupes except one Primary key for each dup record
deletedbo.tblMyDocsSize
fromdbo.tblMyDocsSize a join #dupes d
ond.strComputer = a.strComputer
andd.strATUUser = a.strATUUser
wherea.NewPK not in (select PKtoKeep from #dupes)

-- remove the NewPK column
ALTER TABLE dbo.tblMyDocsSize DROP COLUMN NewPK
go

drop table #dupes

Now that I've got that figured out, I need to write the same thing to fix the other 13 tables (with different column info)- and I'll need to run this daily.

Basically I've put together some vbscript that gathers inventory data and drops it into an MSDE db (sorry - goin for 'free' stuff right now). Problem is it has to run daily so that I'm sure to capture computers that turned on at different times etc which ever-increases my database 'till I bounce off the 2GB limit of MSDE.

So the question is, what would be the best way to do this? Can I put the code into a stored procedure that I can execute each day?

Thanks for your help....

Comparing Similar Tables - Removing Duplicate Or Repeated Data

Sep 30, 2007

It seems that there should be a solution for my situation, but for the life of me I can't seem to figure it out.

I need to compare two "like" tables, containing similar data. Tbl 1 is "BOOKED" (which is a snapshot of inventory) and tbl 2 is "CURRENT" (the live - working inventory table). If I write my query as follows the the subsequent result is "duplicate" data.

Code Block
SELECT booked.item, booked.bin, booked.quantity, current.bin, current.quantity
FROM BOOKED
LEFT JOIN
CURRENT
ON booked.item = current.item

No matter what type of join I use, there is duplicate data displayed for each table. For example, if there are more bins in the BOOKED table that contain a certain product then the CURRENT table will repeat data and vica versa.

As follows:

Item
Bin
Quantity
Bin

12345

What I would like to do is display Bin and Quantity only once and the repeating values as NULL or [BLANK]. Or, to display all of the bins from both tables and only the quantities from each table in relation to the bin found in that table, returning a "0" if no quantity exists.

This is what I'm after:

Item
Bin
Quantity
Bin

Is this possible? If so, how?

I also might add that it is ok for each table to contain multiple entries for any given item. This is basically being requested as an inventory variance report - inventory before physical count and immediatly after physical count - and will only be run once a year.

-----------------------------------------------
Just thinking out loud here:
What if I created three subqueries, the first containing only BOOKED information, the second containing only CURRENT information and the third being a UNION of both tables? Something like this:

Code Block
SELECT q3.bin, q1.item, ISNULL(q1.quantity, 0) as QTY_BEFORE, ISNULL(q2.quantity, 0) as QTY_AFTER

FROM

(select item, bin, quantity
from BOOKED)q1
Left Join

(select item, bin, quantity
from CURRENT)q2
on q1.item = q2.item
Left Join

(select bin, item
from BOOKED
UNION
CURRENT)q3
on q1.item = q3.item

Order By q1.item

I don't know if I wrote the UNION statement correctly, but I will have to try this when I get back to work...

Any suggestions?

If it's the way how it works with MS SQL Server2000, well, IMHO, it's limiting because the above transaction C is avalid one. Or maybe check constraint is not fit for this purpose?Maybe, it doesn't make much sense for me to go into Q2 but I'll try-- create job's child table, taskcreate table #task (taskID int identity(1,1) primary key, taskNamevarchar(25) unique not null, taskEndDate dateTime, taskComplete bitdefault(0), jobID int not null references #job (jobID));-- skip check constraint for taskEndDate and taskComplete for nowNow, the Business Rule says,1) if all tasks are complete then automatically set jobComplete forthe #job table to yes;2) the jobEndDate in the #job table must be >= the last/MaxtaskEndDateI tend to think trigger would slow down data update quite a bit, so,try to stay away for this purpose if possible.Always appreciate your idea.

Check 2 Tables A Delete Records Based On Common Fi

Aug 8, 2007

I'm kinda embarrased, it's been quite awhile since I've played with SQL or Access but here's my brain fart. I need to open an access DB by the name of eHomes. Inside there are two tables AD_IMAGE & PROPERTY. Property is the main table and stores most of the info. It has a field in it called AD_ID and others except for the image file name. The AD_IMAGE table just keeps the image file name and has 3 fields: ID - AD_ID - & Image1. The problem is when the ad is deleted from the property table the AD_IMAGE table record referring to the PROPERTY.AD_ID doen't get deleted. So, I just want the AD_IMAGE table cleaned up to match what's active in the PROPERTY table using the common AD_ID fields in both tables.

from VendTable1
