Nonqualified Transactions Are Being Rolled Back. Estimated Rollback Completion: 100%.

Apr 30, 2007

Hi all,

Sometimes when I do "alter database ABCD set partner failover" I get the following message: Nonqualified transactions are being rolled back. Estimated rollback completion: 100%.

In 99 percent of the cases after such message the first attempt to use an open connection would also raise an error such as "Exception: A transport-level error has occurred when sending the request to the server. (provider: Shared Memory Provider, error: 0 - No process is on the other end of the pipe.)"

After the first error all subsequent queries would run perfectly.

What am I missing?

Transact SQL :: How To Calculate Estimated Completion Time Of A Job

Nov 4, 2015

How to calculate estimated completion time of a job and what is the variance/difference in time based on previous job history. Looking for tsql query which can accomplish this.For example)...Daily a job is taking 10 mins to complete. However, today due to some reason, the job is running over an hour and still running. It could be a blocking issue or some performance issue on the server due to which the job is still running.

In such cases, using a tsql query or a stored proc which monitor these jobs every 3 mins (Configurable value), so every 3 mins , query has to check, if they are any jobs which are taking more time than its usual completion time/avg completion time in that case shoot an email using dbmail functionality i.e. sp_Senddbmail .. From there, DBA can dig further using waits or sql trace etc...

I am confused about save transaction in the below scenario :

begin transaction
save transaction t1
delete from #t1
save transaction t2
begin try
delete from #t2

[Code] ....

If there is error after delete #t2 , transaction t1 is rolled back. But i am not able to understand why i am getting error in the statement 'rollback transaction t2' . I am getting error as 'Cannot roll back t2. No transaction or savepoint of that name was found.'. but save point t2 is mentioned in the code.

SQL Transactions RollBack...

Dec 17, 2004

Hello:

I am just starting to falmiliarize myself with SQL transactions... I just created an SQL transaction... The first statement gets a value, if the value equals "" then the second statement executes... So if the value <> "" Then the second statement wont execute... What would happen in this scenario if the .Rollback is triggered? Heres my code:

Try
conSqlConnect.Open()
objTransaction = conSqlConnect.BeginTransaction
cmdSelect.Transaction = objTransaction
cmdInsert.Transaction = objTransaction
dtrdatareader = cmdSelect.ExecuteReader()
While dtrdatareader.Read()
varCheckNumber1 = dtrdatareader("Status")
End While
dtrdatareader.Close()
If varCheckNumber1 = "" Then
cmdInsert.ExecuteNonQuery()
End If
objTransaction.Commit
Catch
objTransaction.RollBack
Return "00"
Finally
If conSQLConnect.State = ConnectionState.Open Then
conSqlConnect.Close()
End If
End Try

When Do Transactions Commit/Rollback?

Sep 18, 2007

I have a series of questions about SSIS and transactions. The answers to these questions are probably so obvious that I can't see them, so please feel free to just point out what it is that I'm missing. My transaction-processing experience is very low-level, so I'm probably just not seeing how it's done at the high level of SSIS.

The first question is one that I may know the answer to, so please confirm:

Consider a package with TransactionOption set to Supported. It contains a single Execute SQL Task with TransactionOption set to Required. Is it true that if that Execute SQL Task succeeds, that the transaction commits, and that if the task fails, the transaction rolls back?

Consider another package with TransactionOption set to Supported. It contains a Sequence Container with TransactionOption set to Required. That container contains our same Execute SQL Task, but that is joined to a script task by a "success" precedence constraint. The script task simply returns Dts.Results.Failure. Is it the case that the transaction will roll back? That is, is it truly a simple failure result that would initiate the rollback?

If a DataFlow Task is the one that is set to Required, does that mean that every transactional operation within that task will commit in a single transaction? For instance, if I'm inserting five rows for each input record from a flat file, and if my flat file has 1000 records in it, will I see a single transaction with 5,000 rows?
Thanks for your patience!

Want To Save Part Of Transactions When Rollback

Jul 26, 2007

Hi All,
I have set of stored procedures under one transaction where as each SP saves the data in one table and any error occurs then it saves the error details in errorlog table in the same SP. Whenever error occurs, all my transactions including error logging also getting rolled back. I want to keep the error logging part alone when my transaction is getting rolled back.....
That is,
try
{
Transaction A
{
Storedprocedure A
StoredProcedure B
StoredProceudreC
commit Transaction A

}
}
catch()
{
rollback A
}

Where as,
My each SP might contains the statements like,
StoredProcedure A
{

insert values in table A
if ( @@Rowcount =0)
insert values in errorlog ('Error occurred in table A')
}

Now, if any error occurs in Transaction A, all my values stored in 'errorlog' also getting rolled back. Is that any way to stop rollback only for errorlog table in the entire transaction?
(Tried using triggers, that was also not helpfu
SavePoint will save unnecessary part also.. ).

Is that any way to track the error and maintain in errorlog?

ManyThanks in advance,
Jaya

Rollback In A Trigger??? (explicit/autocommit Transactions)

Jun 21, 2006

I€™m using triggers for some more advanced integrity check. The problems is that the same trigger can be run from explicit transaction (this is when I start transaction from .NET) and as autocommit transaction ( very rare, only when we do some maintenance directly with SQL statements).

Currently if I want to rollback transaction from trigger I only issue RAISERROR statements, then .NET application catches this error and generates rollback. But the problem is if trigger is raised from some SQL statements outside .NET application (normally some maintenance work direct from SQL manager ) in that case error is generated but there is no rollback.

Is there any way to distinguish if transaction in trigger is explicit or autocommited, because for autocommited transaction I also need use ROLLBACK TRANSACTION?

I€™m using SQL 2005!

Best regards
edvin

Transaction Scope Rollback Does Not Roll Back Action Of Activation SP

Aug 16, 2007

Hi,

I followed Remus' post about not doing 'fire and forget'.

I have two queues, ProcessingSendQueue and ProcessingReceiveQueue.

Once i receive from ProcessingReceiveQueue, activation SP gets called on ProcessingSendQueue and ends conversation.

However,if I then get an exception, the action of the activation SP ( ie the ending of the conversation ) does not get rolled back... is this possible? I would have thought that the action of the activation SP would get rolled back too.

My ProcessingSendQueue activation SP is as follows:

ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[ProcessingSendQueue_AP]
AS
BEGIN
DECLARE @dh UNIQUEIDENTIFIER;
DECLARE @message_type SYSNAME;
DECLARE @message_body NVARCHAR(4000);

RECEIVE @dh = [conversation_handle], @message_type = [message_type_name], @message_body = CAST([message_body] AS NVARCHAR(4000))
FROM [ProcessingSendQueue];

IF @dh IS NOT NULL
BEGIN
IF @message_type = N'http://schemas.microsoft.com/SQL/ServiceBroker/Error'
BEGIN
RAISERROR (N'Received error %s from service [ProcessingReceiveQueue]', 10, 1, @message_body) WITH LOG;
END
END CONVERSATION @dh;
END
END

Transactions - Back To Basics

Oct 30, 2006

Hi all,

I am having no end of trouble with transactions in the package which i am building. I now just want to go back to basics and see if someone can tell me where i should set specific transaction options.

Firstly, my package runs a for each loop which loops through a directory of directories. In each of the sub directories there are 2 files. The first steps in the loop are to check if a folder has been processed previously, if so then it moves it to a specified directory. The reason that this is done first is that i cannot move the directory whilst it is being read in the foreach loop, so i pass the path to the next iteration of the loop. There is another file system move directory task outwith the foreach loop to deal with the last directory.

Once this has been done, i parse the file name of the xls file within the directory to get a serial number which is assigned to a variable.

The next step is where i envisage that the transactions should be implemented:
I have a sequence container which contains 2 data flow tasks to be run in parallel. each of these reads data from a seperate work sheet in the xls file. and writes it to a database table. Each dataflow task consists of an excel source task, derived column task, look up task (used to derive an ID from the serial number stored in the variable), and an oledb destination.

Upon completion, if the sequence container fails i want to set the destination folder path to the qurantine location. If it succeeds i want to copy the csv file contained in the same directory to a seperate location and then set the out put folder to the archive location.

What i need to know is where do i set the transaction option if i want to roll back the data that has been inserted into the database if either data flow task fails?

Please somebody help, as this is not working at all.

Many thanks,

Grant

What i need is, a mechanism, by which i can roll back to the previous state if i encounter an exception (either in the app or SP)

so, if the my first two SP execute fine, perform their functionality like insert/update, and the third one fails...

how can i roll back to the initial state in ASP.NET.

would appreciate any info.

TRANSACTIONS In SSIS (error: The ROLLBACK TRANSACTION Request Has No Corresponding BEGIN TRANSACTION.

Nov 14, 2006

I'm receiving the below error when trying to implement Execute SQL Task.

"The ROLLBACK TRANSACTION request has no corresponding BEGIN TRANSACTION." This error also happens on COMMIT as well and there is a preceding Execute SQL Task with BEGIN TRANSACTION tranname WITH MARK 'tran'

I know I can change the transaction option property from "supported" to "required" however I want to mark the transaction. I was copying the way Import/Export Wizard does it however I'm unable to figure out why it works and why mine doesn't work.

Anyone know of the reason?

Performance Degradation After Replication Rolled Out

Dec 14, 2006

Hi all.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

We recently created transactional replication to hopefully improve performance issues we were expereincing. The replication is between 2 SQL Servers (2000), and since we have introduced the replication, the performance has degraded considerably.

I will try and explain the scenario.

We have a primary db that our internal users use and we also have the newly replicated db that our website and another application use. The users are complaining that the website and the internal application is extremely slow and I was just wondering if it is possible to do an Index Tuning on both the primary db and replicated db based on trace files so as to create new indexes or would this have an impact on the replication?

Thanks in advance.

Power Pivot :: Measure Calculated On Leaf Level And Rolled Up

Jun 19, 2015

I have the following scenario. I want to apply some calculations on different levels and then aggregate them up.

First measure calculates at Productgroup,color,store,size level

ProductGroup Color Store Size Amount Quantity

Measure:Amount*Quantity   (ProductGroup, Color, Store, Size)

A Blue Store A L 100 6 600
A Red Store A S 150 4 600
A Green Store A M 160 7 1120
B Blue Store A L 300 3 900

[Code] ........

The other measure ignores color

ProductGroup Store Size Amount Quantity

Measure:Amount*Quantity   (ProductGroup, Store, Size)

A Store A L 100 6 600
A Store A S 150 4 600
A Store A M 160 7 1120
B Store A L 640 15 9600

[Code] ...

Ignoring that gives another figure for productgroup B. In the pivot, I should see both measures at whatever attribute, except for the measure that excludes color will be null if tried split on color

ProductGroup Amount Quantity (ProductGroup, Color, Store,   Size) (ProductGroup, Store, Size)
A 410 17 2320 2320
B 640 15 2820 9600
C 170 5 430 430

How should the two measure be defined:

Measure (ProductGroup,Color,Store,Size)
Measure (ProductGroup,Store,Size)

Possible To Stop SSRS GUI From Destroying Hand Rolled Mdx In Datasets By Silently Reverting To Design Mode?

Since as soon as you extend your mdx datasets manually you can no longer switch back into design mode without losing your changes, right?

If that's the case, is there some way to disable design mode completely? i'm finding that the GUI has the tendency to SILENTLY revert the dataset editor back to design mode while I'm busy editing a layout, thereby losing my carefully crafted MDX.

Actual And Estimated Rows

Sep 15, 2006

I have a stored procedure that will execute with less than 1,000 reads onetime (with a specified set of parameters), then with a different set ofparameters the procedure executes with close to 500,000 reads (according toProfiler).In comparing the execution plans, they are the same, except for the actualand estimated number of rows. When the proc runs with parameters that producereads that are less than 1,000 the actual and estimated number of rows equal1. When the proc runs with parameters that produce reads are near 500,000 theactual rows are approximately 85,000 and the estimated rows equal 1.Then I run:DBCC DROPCLEANBUFFERSDBCC FREEPROCCACHEIf I then reverse the order of execution by executing the procedure thatinitially executes with close to 500,000 reads first, the reads drop to lessthan 2,000. The execution plan shows the acutual number of rows equal to 1,and the estimated rows equal to 2.27. Then when I run the procedure thatinitially executed with less than 1,000 reads, it continues to run at lessthan 1,000 reads, and the actual number of rows is equal to 1 and theestimated rows equal to 2.27. When run in this order, there is consistency inthe actual and estimated number of rows and the reads for both executionswith differing parameters are within reason.Do I need to run DBCC DROPCLEANBUFFERS and DBCC FREEPROCCACHE on productionand then ensure that the procedure that ran close to 500,000 reads is runfirst to ensure the proper plan, as well as using a KEEP PLAN option? Or,what other options might you recommend?I am running SQL 2000 SP4.--Message posted via SQLMonster.comhttp://www.sqlmonster.com/Uwe/Forum...eneral/200609/1

Changing Connection Transactions To Database Transactions

May 22, 2005

Hi there,
I have decided to move all my transaction handling from asp.net to stored procedures in a SQL Server 2000 database. I know the database is capable of rolling back the transactions just like myTransaction.Rollback() in asp.net. But what about exceptions? In asp.net, I am used to doing the following:
<code>Try   'execute commands   myTransaction.Commit()Catch ex As Exception   Response.Write(ex.Message)   myTransaction.Rollback()End Try</code>Will the database inform me of any exceptions (and their messages)? Do I need to put anything explicit in my stored procedure other than rollback transaction?
Any help is greatly appreciated

Is there any possibility to get the estimated totalnumber of all rows? i have heard something that is possible to get this in mssql-server. The server then estimates how many rows with that searchword could be in the whole database. google i.e. makes the same thing....
is that true? what do i have to do to get this?

When I generate an estimated execution plan from Management Studio, one of the things I often see in the execution plan generated is an 'Index Scan'. When I put my mouse over the 'Index Scan' graphic, I will see a window display with something called 'Output List' at the bottom of the window. Do I understand correctly that SQL Server will scan my index looking for values in each of the fields included in this output list?

Thanks, Amos.
