Null Replacement On Excel Query

Nov 23, 2006

Hello everyone,

i'm using an excel source where i get my excel rows using a query, I'd like to replace possible null values with some other data(a zero value or a empty string for example), that's because i'm performing a transformation into a sql server table wich doesn't accept null values for some columns.

Is there any function to convert a null value to another one? I used the sql server's CASE function, but it didn't work. Any suggestions?

thanks a lot.

Using A Excel Source To Get The Data From An Excel File Gets Null Values For A Couple Columns

Nov 19, 2007

I am using a Excel Source to get the data from an excel file to sql server 2005 table. A couple columns are coming in a double precision float, but some values have characters in them, but those values are coming out as null, even though I changed the datatype from float to unicode string. Any inputs on resolving this will be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Manisha

Integration Services :: Excel Column Turns To Blank / NULL While Import Using SSIS Excel Source 2008

Jul 6, 2015

While importing data from Excel source , some column is getting null value even though excel column has value.To Resolve the issue we tried with

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREWow6432NodeMicrosoftOffice14.0Access Connectivity EngineEnginesExcel

1.Change the Value  of the Row TypeGuessRows from 8 (Default value) to 0  and ImportMixedType = text

• xls
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftJet4.0EnginesExcel

1.Change the Value  of the Row TypeGuessRows from 8 (Default value) to 0  and ImportMixedType = text

the connection string of the excel

UPPER(REVERSE(SUBSTRING( REVERSE(@[User::VarInputExcelFile]), 1, 5) ) ) == ".XLSX" ? "Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source=" + @[User::VarInputExcelFile] + ";Extended Properties="Excel 12.0;HDR=Yes;IMEX=1";":"Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data
Source=" + @[User::VarInputExcelFile] + ";Extended Properties="EXCEL 8.0;HDR=Yes;IMEX=1";"

by doing the above setting also , the column is coming as null from excel source even though there is data in excel.

Power Pivot :: Power Query Conditional Text Replacement

Jul 16, 2015

I'm looking to replace text in a given column given a set of conditions in the other columns. Please see below the M query in the advance editor and in particular the bold text. Here I've created a new entry that would appear in the query applied steps window in the power query editor that I have called "Replace Values". The logic is if Data.Column4 column equals "London" then replace null values in Data.Column5 with London. However when I save the query below I get the error

Expression.Error: There is an unknown identifier. Did you use the [field] shorthand for a _[field] outside of an 'each' expression?

I plan to change the expression to test for multiple conditions however I need to get the basic expression working first. The other frustration i had with the "if" statement is it had to have an else even though I didn't require it, am i doing something wrong here?

let
FullFilePath = "C:PermanentDwellings.xlsx",
Source = Excel.Workbook(File.Contents(FullFilePath)),
    #"Expanded Data" = Table.ExpandTableColumn(Source, "Data", {"Column1", "Column10", "Column11", "Column12", "Column13", "Column14", "Column15", "Column16",

Null Rows In Excel

Nov 17, 2007

Hi,

I have to import data from Excel to SQL Server using SSIS. My fields in sql don't take null values however for some reason i don't understand I see that the SSIS is also trying to import null rows into the database. For example I have the following excel file:
Name Postcode State
XXX 123 ON
YXX 345 IO

The rows following the last line are all blank but when I preview the Excel Source data flow task it returns the empty rows as null and therfore, my package fails as db fields don't accept null values.

How can I prevent SSIS from taking null rows? Can I maybe write a query in SSIS to say only to take rows where postcode<>null ?

Thanks in advance for any help i get :-)

DTS Excel Import AlphaNumeric As NULL

Feb 15, 2000

I have seen this problem posted several times and not seen an applicable solution yet. No offense, the suggestions may have been good for those scenarios, but not this one.

Several (at least 4) Excel Spreadsheets come from a vendor that I need to import to a table. They are uploaded via web to a directory so they can be imported by a scheduled DTS package.

Darren Green's site gave me some good info on how to get this far, btw.
But I cannot overcome the NULL-ifying of Column Headers for Numeric fields when the spreadsheet is imported.

I've tried:
DTSDestination("Yr1") = trim(DTSSource("F7"))
DTSDestination("Yr1") = CHR(34) & trim(DTSSource("F7")) & CHR(34)
DTSDestination("Yr1") = cstr("0" & trim(DTSSource("F7)))
DTSDestination("Yr1") = clng("0" & DTSSource("F7")))

Named ranges, along with any sort of spreadsheet editing is too time consuming.
And since they come from a vendor, having them come to us with the required items in place is not possible.

Even though it seems easy enough, it's a toughy.
Any help would be rewarded with respect and admiration.
Thanks, Mike

Excel Source Returning NULL

Feb 27, 2007

I've a package that has a excel source. But i'm having a strange problem with it. One of the columns in the source file have a lot of null values but not all of them. But when i run the package a put a data viewer right after the source and i can see that it's showing that the few fields that should have values are also null. I've tried a lot of things but they didn't work. I need some help and fast if possible.
Example: Source file.xls
Name Grade OtherGrade
John 30 30.23
In the DataViewer
Name Grade OtherGrade
John 30 NULL

Null Values When Extracting Data From An Excel File

Oct 18, 2006

Hello,

I'm trying to import some data from a spreadsheet to a database table from a package in integration services. The problem is that I see the data when I open the excel file but when I try to run my package , it doesn't insert any rows in the table and it finishes with a success status.

My excel file has some formulas to get the data from other worksheets. I added a Data Viewer and all I see is null values in every cell.

I need help...does anyone know what's wrong?

Importing From Excel Into SQL Server 2005 Changing Values To NULL

Mar 9, 2007

I can't figure this one out...

I have an Excel spreadsheet (Excel 2003 format) with a column of values. The column is formated to General (although I've tried it formated to text). The values are alphanumeric. However, there are a few values that are completely numeric.

Example:

_ITEMNUMBER_

1-528

K214-5

184PR

45678

As can be seen, the last value is completely numeric. I am importing into a table with one column that is formated as nvarchar(50).

I use dtswizard.exe and do a simple import into the table and the alphanumeric values import just fine but anytime a value is completely numeric it has a NULL value in the table instead of the value that should be there.

I've tried changing the format of the column to nchar, char, etc, etc. Always comes in NULL.

Any ideas?

Integration Services :: Excel Source On SSIS 2008 Brings Null Values

Apr 20, 2010

I'm trying to import some XLS files that I receive from some suppliers. The problem is that every time they send some columns with text values but formatted as number. When I read those columns with SSIS Excel Source, they come all with null values.

I don't want to change the columns data types every time, so I would like to know if there's a way to bypass the column types that are already there.

I tried to use both the Jet driver and the Office 12 driver. I've already used the IMEX=1 on ExtendedProperties too with no success. Is there a way to force reading the columns as text, even if they have data types assigned to them?

Integration Services :: SSIS Excel Data Source Numeric Values Returned As Null

May 8, 2009

I'm using SSIS 2005 Enterprise edition,  I'm creating a package that reads an excel (xls) file using the "excel source" component, and it dumps the data into an OLEDB destination (a sql server). When I drag the excel source component and create the excel connection to my file the component automatically reads the columns and their datatypes.

The problem is that I have a column which has numeric data and the package uploads as NULL every number that starts with a zero. (note: in excel this column is formatted as "text", despite it has only numbers, because it's the only way excel maintains the left sided zeros).

So I checked the data types by right clicking the excel source component -> show advanced editor and my surprise is that this column's data type is detected as double-precision float, and it doesn't let me change it. URL... but it only works when the first row of data has a number beginning with zero on this column. How to get the data imported correctly?

Text Replacement

Feb 28, 2008

Hello all,
I get some dates entered manually in french format in a varchar(255) field and want to convert that field in datetime. Since, Enterprise manager is warning me about a risk to loose information, I'm thinking about a way to update the french text in the corresponding english text before doing the conversion.
Example:
25-fév-08 (varchar(255)) has to become 25-feb-08 (datetime)

Could anybody help me, please?

RSS Replacement For Sp_makewebtask

May 7, 2007

Hello All!

I have a job that we wrote in SQL 2000 that loops through and finds all the orders pending verification and distributes them via emal to 100+ sales people every night. Each email is sent to the individual sales rep. I did this using sp_makewebtask and attaching the html file to an email and using a WHILE statement to loop thorugh all pending entries in sql.

I recently learned that sp_makewebtask is not going to be around for the next release and that I should use RSS for all future development.

Question: How can I achieve the same result outlined above using RS? How can I dynamically create and distribute HTML files?

I know that RS is xml based, but some pointer on how/where to start would be much appreciated.

Many Thanks....

DB_ID() Replacement

Sep 1, 2006

In the BOL, it states to replace DB_ID() with a valid database name when the compatibility level is 80 or below.

The original statement is:

SELECT
object_id AS objectid,
index_id AS indexid,
partition_number AS partitionnum,
avg_fragmentation_in_percent AS frag
INTO #work_to_do
FROM sys.dm_db_index_physical_stats (DB_ID(), NULL, NULL , NULL, 'LIMITED')
WHERE avg_fragmentation_in_percent > 10.0 AND index_id > 0;

I replaced DB_ID() as follows but none worked:

DB_ID(N'pubs')
pubs

What should the syntax look like?

Data Migration With Value Replacement

Table B

4000 Rows, each row: Z, has a value that corresponds to Table A's unique values. Has 2 extra columns: C2 and D2.

What I am looking to do is update all 4000 rows in Table B to match the data set in Table A. C1 -> C2, D1 -> D2 following the criteria that X = Z.

All the update attempts I've made so far only update 200 rows within Table B.

We had to migrate from MS Access 2003 to SQL Server 2005 due to some project requirements.

We had used Forms, earlier, to enter data to the Access database.

I understand SS2005 doesnt support forms.

Can you suggest any other way of creating an equivalent entity as that of forms, so as to enable users to enter data to the SS 2005 DB easily.

Thanks in Advance for your help,
Regards,
Sundar

Problem With Isnull. Need To Substitute Null If A Var Is Null And Compare It To Null And Return True

Sep 20, 2006

Hey. I need to substitute a value from a table if the input var is null. This is fine if the value coming from table is not null. But, it the table value is also null, it doesn't work. The problem I'm getting is in the isnull line which is in Dark green color because @inFileVersion is set to null explicitly and when the isnull function evaluates, value returned from DR.FileVersion is also null which is correct. I want the null=null to return true which is why i set ansi_nulls off. But it doesn't return anything. And the select statement should return something but in my case it returns null. If I comment the isnull statements in the where clause, everything works fine. Please tell me what am I doing wrong. Is it possible to do this without setting the ansi_nulls to off??? Thank you

set ansi_nulls off

go

declare

@inFileName VARCHAR (100),

@inFileSize INT,

@Id int,

@inlanguageid INT,

@inFileVersion VARCHAR (100),

@ExeState int

set @inFileName = 'A0006337.EXE'

set @inFileSize = 28796

set @Id= 1

set @inlanguageid =null

set @inFileVersion =NULL

set @ExeState =0

select Dr.StateID from table1 dR

where

DR.[FileName] = @inFileName

AND DR.FileSize =@inFileSize

AND DR.FileVersion = isnull(@inFileVersion,DR.FileVersion)

AND DR.languageid = isnull(@inlanguageid,null)

AND DR.[ID]= @ID

)

go

set ansi_nulls on
