i'm using an excel source where i get my excel rows using a query, I'd like to replace possible null values with some other data(a zero value or a empty string for example), that's because i'm performing a transformation into a sql server table wich doesn't accept null values for some columns.
Is there any function to convert a null value to another one? I used the sql server's CASE function, but it didn't work. Any suggestions?
I am using a Excel Source to get the data from an excel file to sql server 2005 table. A couple columns are coming in a double precision float, but some values have characters in them, but those values are coming out as null, even though I changed the datatype from float to unicode string. Any inputs on resolving this will be much appreciated.
I'm looking to replace text in a given column given a set of conditions in the other columns. Please see below the M query in the advance editor and in particular the bold text. Here I've created a new entry that would appear in the query applied steps window in the power query editor that I have called "Replace Values". The logic is if Data.Column4 column equals "London" then replace null values in Data.Column5 with London. However when I save the query below I get the errorÂ
Expression.Error: There is an unknown identifier. Did you use the [field] shorthand for a _[field] outside of an 'each' expression?
I plan to change the expression to test for multiple conditions however I need to get the basic expression working first. The other frustration i had with the "if" statement is it had to have an else even though I didn't require it, am i doing something wrong here?
let FullFilePath = "C:PermanentDwellings.xlsx", Source = Excel.Workbook(File.Contents(FullFilePath)), Â Â #"Expanded Data" = Table.ExpandTableColumn(Source, "Data", {"Column1", "Column10", "Column11", "Column12", "Column13", "Column14", "Column15", "Column16",
I have to import data from Excel to SQL Server using SSIS. My fields in sql don't take null values however for some reason i don't understand I see that the SSIS is also trying to import null rows into the database. For example I have the following excel file: Name Postcode State XXX 123 ON YXX 345 IO
The rows following the last line are all blank but when I preview the Excel Source data flow task it returns the empty rows as null and therfore, my package fails as db fields don't accept null values.
How can I prevent SSIS from taking null rows? Can I maybe write a query in SSIS to say only to take rows where postcode<>null ?
I have seen this problem posted several times and not seen an applicable solution yet. No offense, the suggestions may have been good for those scenarios, but not this one.
Several (at least 4) Excel Spreadsheets come from a vendor that I need to import to a table. They are uploaded via web to a directory so they can be imported by a scheduled DTS package.
Darren Green's site gave me some good info on how to get this far, btw. But I cannot overcome the NULL-ifying of Column Headers for Numeric fields when the spreadsheet is imported.
Named ranges, along with any sort of spreadsheet editing is too time consuming. And since they come from a vendor, having them come to us with the required items in place is not possible.
Even though it seems easy enough, it's a toughy. Any help would be rewarded with respect and admiration. Thanks, Mike
In my Excel file the date column contain some nulls. In Data conversion I am converting this Date column as Date[dt_date]. When I run the package it is giving the error Can not convert date to Copy of date.. This error is coming due to nulls in Date column. How to solve this error?
I've a package that has a excel source. But i'm having a strange problem with it. One of the columns in the source file have a lot of null values but not all of them. But when i run the package a put a data viewer right after the source and i can see that it's showing that the few fields that should have values are also null. I've tried a lot of things but they didn't work. I need some help and fast if possible. Example: Source file.xls Name Grade OtherGrade John 30 30.23 In the DataViewer Name Grade OtherGrade John 30 NULL
I'm trying to import some data from a spreadsheet to a database table from a package in integration services. The problem is that I see the data when I open the excel file but when I try to run my package , it doesn't insert any rows in the table and it finishes with a success status.
My excel file has some formulas to get the data from other worksheets. I added a Data Viewer and all I see is null values in every cell.
I have an Excel spreadsheet (Excel 2003 format) with a column of values. The column is formated to General (although I've tried it formated to text). The values are alphanumeric. However, there are a few values that are completely numeric.
Example:
_ITEMNUMBER_
1-528
K214-5
184PR
45678
As can be seen, the last value is completely numeric. I am importing into a table with one column that is formated as nvarchar(50).
I use dtswizard.exe and do a simple import into the table and the alphanumeric values import just fine but anytime a value is completely numeric it has a NULL value in the table instead of the value that should be there.
I've tried changing the format of the column to nchar, char, etc, etc. Always comes in NULL.
Hai Friends, Actually i want to import excel sheet in to sql server tables. I have a excel sheet with some data and blank columns. I have a ssis package using to import data from excel to sql table. For blank excel columns it is importing as null instead i want to show them as '0'. If data comes in it should update the data.
I'm trying to import some XLS files that I receive from some suppliers. The problem is that every time they send some columns with text values but formatted as number. When I read those columns with SSIS Excel Source, they come all with null values.
I don't want to change the columns data types every time, so I would like to know if there's a way to bypass the column types that are already there.
I tried to use both the Jet driver and the Office 12 driver. I've already used the IMEX=1 on ExtendedProperties too with no success. Is there a way to force reading the columns as text, even if they have data types assigned to them?
I'm using SSIS 2005 Enterprise edition, I'm creating a package that reads an excel (xls) file using the "excel source" component, and it dumps the data into an OLEDB destination (a sql server). When I drag the excel source component and create the excel connection to my file the component automatically reads the columns and their datatypes.
The problem is that I have a column which has numeric data and the package uploads as NULL every number that starts with a zero. (note: in excel this column is formatted as "text", despite it has only numbers, because it's the only way excel maintains the left sided zeros).
So I checked the data types by right clicking the excel source component -> show advanced editor and my surprise is that this column's data type is detected as double-precision float, and it doesn't let me change it. URL... but it only works when the first row of data has a number beginning with zero on this column. How to get the data imported correctly?
I've got a SQL Server hardware Replacement to do. This server has a merge replication setup on it which was setup by a contractor.
Do i have to do the configurations manually when moving the replication bits across two servers or is there a different process involved ? I am just not sure how to approach this.
Hello all, I get some dates entered manually in french format in a varchar(255) field and want to convert that field in datetime. Since, Enterprise manager is warning me about a risk to loose information, I'm thinking about a way to update the french text in the corresponding english text before doing the conversion. Example: 25-fév-08 (varchar(255)) has to become 25-feb-08 (datetime)
I have a job that we wrote in SQL 2000 that loops through and finds all the orders pending verification and distributes them via emal to 100+ sales people every night. Each email is sent to the individual sales rep. I did this using sp_makewebtask and attaching the html file to an email and using a WHILE statement to loop thorugh all pending entries in sql.
I recently learned that sp_makewebtask is not going to be around for the next release and that I should use RSS for all future development.
Question: How can I achieve the same result outlined above using RS? How can I dynamically create and distribute HTML files?
I know that RS is xml based, but some pointer on how/where to start would be much appreciated.
Dear all,I need some help from all my Transact SQL Guru friends out there..Here is the scenario in its most simplified form.. ..I have two tables.. A(Lookup table) and B(Transaction Table)TableA FieldsEmployeeLocationIDEmployeeLocation (This could have values say"B","BO","BOM","C","CA","CALC") etc...TableB FieldsEmployeeIDEmployeeName.......EmployeeLocationID (will have null initially when rows are populatedfirst time)EmployeeLocation (This could have values"BA123","BOMBAY","BOTS123","BRACK".... etc)I hope you get where I am leading this to, from my examples..Requirement is to populate the EmployeeLocationID in Table B withEmployeeLocationID from TableA by matching the field EmployeeLocationin both tables. Please note that table B's EmployeeLocation could be A'sEmployeeLocation + some additionalcodes like "123","RACK" etc in theabove example...Therefore, this is what I had wrote initially..update Bset B.EmployeeLocationID =A.EmployeeLocationID
Help, I have a vendor file with the vendors name. I need to add afield that has alternate captionseg. :In my vendor file I have records for AT&T with three differentnames/spellings for AT&T.AT&TLucent TechnologiesA T & TI want to add a new field that would have AT&T for the above records.I know I could hardcode a queryUpdate F_VENDORSet VENDOR_CAPTION_ALT = 'AT&T'where VENDOR_CAPTION like '%Lucent%' orVENDOR_CAPTION like '%A T & T%'however, how can I use another table that has the my search keywordsfor the "like" and the replacement captions so I dont need literalqueries to update all the diffent vendors?I have identified 96 instances of where I want to have an alternativename that I can use for a type of grouping. This gets really wildwith the military such as Army and Navy.TIARob
In the BOL, it states to replace DB_ID() with a valid database name when the compatibility level is 80 or below.
The original statement is:
SELECT object_id AS objectid, index_id AS indexid, partition_number AS partitionnum, avg_fragmentation_in_percent AS frag INTO #work_to_do FROM sys.dm_db_index_physical_stats (DB_ID(), NULL, NULL , NULL, 'LIMITED') WHERE avg_fragmentation_in_percent > 10.0 AND index_id > 0;
In VS 2003 I used SQLDMO (Com Object) to list all available SQL Servers. Is in SQL Server 2005 a managed .net Component that can do that task? Thanks,Rainer.
Been meaning to post this for a while. It does a very limited job of only allowing [0-9], but could be extended to allow negative numbers, or numeric values that are suitable for numeric types other than INT, but avoiding the pitfalls of IsNumeric() which might allow through data not suitable for some of the numeric datatypes

Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a replacement for Access Forms once I move the tables etc to SQL 2005? Does SQL 2005 have any form building functionality like Access?
I'd like to change in order to improve the maintenance of our packages. I've got lots of packages running with values such as "path" and "filename" inside variables.
Hey. I need to substitute a value from a table if the input var is null. This is fine if the value coming from table is not null. But, it the table value is also null, it doesn't work. The problem I'm getting is in the isnull line which is in Dark green color because @inFileVersion is set to null explicitly and when the isnull function evaluates, value returned from DR.FileVersion is also null which is correct. I want the null=null to return true which is why i set ansi_nulls off. But it doesn't return anything. And the select statement should return something but in my case it returns null. If I comment the isnull statements in the where clause, everything works fine. Please tell me what am I doing wrong. Is it possible to do this without setting the ansi_nulls to off??? Thank you
set ansi_nulls off
