Null Values When Extracting Data From An Excel File

Hello,
I'm trying to import some data from a spreadsheet to a database table from a package in integration services. The problem is that I see the data when I open the excel file but when I try to run my package , it doesn't insert any rows in the table and it finishes with a success status.
My excel file has some formulas to get the data from other worksheets. I added a Data Viewer and all I see is null values in every cell.
I need help...does anyone know what's wrong?

I am using a Excel Source to get the data from an excel file to sql server 2005 table. A couple columns are coming in a double precision float, but some values have characters in them, but those values are coming out as null, even though I changed the datatype from float to unicode string. Any inputs on resolving this will be much appreciated.

I have an Excel 97 file that has a lot of data in it and I need to pull out pieces of that data. Here is one example of the data I have. It is in colum C in Excel.

What I want to get out of this to put into a SQL table in one record is (I've included a header row here):

What is the best way to attach this? I have several other items I need to pull out of this Excel File, but if I can get this figured out I can adapt it to get the rest of what I want.

I have a DTSX package which reads values from a fixed-length text file using a data reader and writes some of the column values from the file to an Oracle table. We have used this DTSX several times without incident but recently the process started inserting NULL values for some of the columns when there was a valid value in the source file. If we extract some of the rows from the source file into a smaller file (i.e 10 rows which incorrectly returned NULLs) and run them through the same package they write the correct values to the table, but running the complete file again results in the NULL values error. As well, if we rerun the same file multiple times the incidence of NULL values varies slightly and does not always seem to impact the same rows. I tried outputting data to a log file to see if I can determine what happens and no error messages are returned but it seems to be the case that the NULL values occur after pulling in the data via a Data Reader. Has anyone seen anything like this before or does anyone have a suggestion on how to try and get some additional debugging information around this error?

I'm using SSIS 2005 Enterprise edition, I'm creating a package that reads an excel (xls) file using the "excel source" component, and it dumps the data into an OLEDB destination (a sql server). When I drag the excel source component and create the excel connection to my file the component automatically reads the columns and their datatypes.
The problem is that I have a column which has numeric data and the package uploads as NULL every number that starts with a zero. (note: in excel this column is formatted as "text", despite it has only numbers, because it's the only way excel maintains the left sided zeros).
So I checked the data types by right clicking the excel source component -> show advanced editor and my surprise is that this column's data type is detected as double-precision float, and it doesn't let me change it. URL... but it only works when the first row of data has a number beginning with zero on this column. How to get the data imported correctly?

I have SQL Server 2012 SSIS. I have Excel source and OLE DB Destination.I have problem with importing CustomerSales column.CustomerSales values like 1000.00,2000.10,3000.30,NotAvailable.So I have decimal values and nvarchar mixed in on Excel column. This is requirement for solution.However SSIS reads only numeric values correctly and nvarchar values are set as Null. Why?

Hi all,
If I have a column in one table (contracts) that contains a set of values (codes that identify the fields contract code) like as follows...
Code:
Contracts table

Concode - description
--------------------------------
KIDD - Kidderminster General
UNIV - University Hospitals
and then another table (controls) which has a column called contracts where the data within the 'Contracts' field is set out like the following (yes that is right, each of the data in this column are the Foreign Keys which are separated by '/' in which I need to query against the contracts table ) ...

With the those tables and the columns like they are, how can I get my query to display the following information...

I've created a custom Data Processing Extension and I've implemented the IDBCommandAnalysis interface so that my reports can enter parameters and pass them to my Data Processing Extension.
My question is, how do I extract the value from the Parameters coming from the report? Where do the parameters get passed off from the report? I can query the Parameters collection and my report gets prompted in Preview mode to enter something for the parameter but I can't find the spot where it gets passed for processing.

I am doing a project where I heed to extract data from a table in a sql server and then automatically create a bar chart with this data preferrably in PowerPoint (or excel). I was thinking myself that it may be done in vba/macro added to a button in powerpoint. If anyone knows how to do this i would be very grateful or if anyone know a useful website could they post it up.

I can't figure this one out...
I have an Excel spreadsheet (Excel 2003 format) with a column of values. The column is formated to General (although I've tried it formated to text). The values are alphanumeric. However, there are a few values that are completely numeric.
Example:
_ITEMNUMBER_
1-528
K214-5
184PR
45678
As can be seen, the last value is completely numeric. I am importing into a table with one column that is formated as nvarchar(50).
I use dtswizard.exe and do a simple import into the table and the alphanumeric values import just fine but anytime a value is completely numeric it has a NULL value in the table instead of the value that should be there.
I've tried changing the format of the column to nchar, char, etc, etc. Always comes in NULL.
Any ideas?

I'm trying to import some XLS files that I receive from some suppliers. The problem is that every time they send some columns with text values but formatted as number. When I read those columns with SSIS Excel Source, they come all with null values.
I don't want to change the columns data types every time, so I would like to know if there's a way to bypass the column types that are already there.
I tried to use both the Jet driver and the Office 12 driver. I've already used the IMEX=1 on ExtendedProperties too with no success. Is there a way to force reading the columns as text, even if they have data types assigned to them?

In my Excel file the date column contain some nulls. In Data conversion I am converting this Date column as Date[dt_date]. When I run the package it is giving the error Can not convert date to Copy of date.. This error is coming due to nulls in Date column. How to solve this error?

When exporting the results of a query to a file any values that are null are displayed as NULL in the file. Is there anyway to have them be blank instead? I looked around in the Studio but couldn't find anything that would do this globaly.

I have a pivot transform that pivots a batch type. After the pivot, each batch type has its own row with null values for the other batch types that were pivoted. I want to group two fields and max() the remaining batch types so that the multiple rows are displayed on one row. I tried using the aggregate transform, but since the batch type field is a string, the max() function fails in the package. Is there another transform or can I use the aggragate transform another way so that the max() will work on a string?

Hi,
my configuration file provides parameters that are used for an SQL query in my package. However, for these parameters it must be possible to pass NULL to the query.
This seems to be impossible in SSIS..? If the config file provides no value, the package uses a default value - and this default value can not be null.
Any suggestions?

Hi,
I have the following problem: I'm connected to flat file source and trying to read data that is later inserted in an MS Access database. Everything wokrs fine instead of one thing - when I have null values in the flat file, I want those NULL values to be inserted in the MS Access db, instead of that what happens is that I actually get the default values for a column type from the flat file and later insert that defalut value. For example if I have a null value in an four-bite-signed-integer column of the flat file, I get 0 as value.
I thouth of solution using a "Derived Column" transformation which can transform the zeros into nulls, but decided to check with you guys if there is a smarter thing to do (for example to edit the flat file source to read the NULLs correctly).

I have a excel sheet with some data and blank columns. I have a ssis package using to import data from excel to sql table. For blank excel columns it is importing as null instead i want to show them as '0'. If data comes in it should update the data.

I have a checkbox on my webform that is bound to a bit field in my SQL table. I'm fine as long as I've got the bit field set to 0 or 1, but if the field is NULL, the checkbox throws an exception during the databind.
Is there any way to handle this without removing the data binding and manually setting the value (ie: some way to intercept it before the exception gets thrown and then setting the field value in the dataset)?

Hi,
I have a data transform from a flat-file to a SQL server database.
Some of the flat-file fields have NULL values. The SQL table I'm
importing into does not allow NULL values in any field, but each field
has a Default value specified.
I need to have it so that if a null value comes across in a field using
the data transform, it takes the table default on import. I could of
sworn I had this working a few days ago, but I get errors now that
state I'm violating table constraints. Has anyone done this before?

I need some help with the following...
My data source has some columns I have to 'translate' first and then insert into my destination table.
Example Source data:
key size height
1 'Small' 'Tall'
2 'Big' 'Short'
has to become
1 'Y' 'P'
2 'N' 'D'
I thought of creating a lookup table (I'm talking about the real table, not a lookup transformation table) that would have these columns: column name, value_source, value_dest
Example:
col_name vl_source vl_dest
size 'Small' 'Y'
size 'Big' 'N'
height 'Tall' 'P'
... and so on, I believe you get the point
How would you extract the needed values? Can I use a select statement in a derived column expression? Any ideas? I'm not really fond of the idea to create n lookups, one for each column I have to translate, is there a slicker solution?

its my flow in one of my packates (ETL job)
Excel file contains monthly revenue details, i wanna import the excel data to my database staging table, so i've created the package.
its working fine...
Problem
if we change the new data for the next month and running the package its not running;
the same file, same format, only we delete the contents, of the file except first row of the excel sheet,
and pasting the new data;
new data is coming from Oracle DataBase in the form of excel sheet ( manually they will copy the data and sending to us)
i open that package in design mode and while double clicking the excel file source it says <column name>'s Meta Data needs to be synchronized
Do you want to Fix this issue automatically with the available external column's meta data
Clearly noted that its a data type issue; i have changed the corresponding data types as it is in the previous Excel sheet which is equivalant to the Table its copying to.
now the package is running with validation warnings, External Column "Invoice Amount" needs to be updated...etc. some 2 or three warning messages i can able to see in the package Execution wizard,
ok, i'm ready to accept these warnings, and i want my package running from my server;( packages had been deployed in to the Centeralized server; every time if we want to run the package, we have the asp.net webpage, that is executing the package in an On_click event)
The package is not running from the server, its due to the meta data change in the Excel file( i guess)
please suggest me some guide lines to resolve this meta data issue, i want my excel sheet meta data should not change when we have new updates in it;
otherwise suggest me some solutions that i can validate the excel sheet before running the package and testing whether the data is in correct format or not? its a kind of Data Profiling activity;
i know its some what crazy, but i need to maintain the system with permanent solution, instead of facing this meta data mismatch issue!!!

Hello. I have a somwhat simple question.
I have a table inside my database where i have some columns. Id like to extract distinct values from one column and inser them into another. My table is named article and id like to slect all the destinct values from the column naned type inside my article table. Then i need to insert my values into a new table called type but i would also like the to have 2 columns inside my type table. 1 called counter witch is an auto increment PK, and another one named type where the results from my query would be inserted.
Iv tried a veriety of querys but none of them have managed to do this.
Could anyone help me construct this query?

I'm importing a multi tab spreadsheet using Import wizard, which I understand to use the same internals as SSIS. The total number of columns in the spread sheet will be over 500. The import wizard defaults everything to varchar 255. I understand there is an XML file I can manipulate to change this and they are located
