If one of the 3 values is blank, the value LOCATION becomes NULL. How
can I inlcude any of the 3 values without LOCATION becoming NULL?
Example, if ADDR1 and CITY have values but STATE is blank, I get a
NULL statement for LOCATION. I still want it to show ADDR1 and CITY
even if STATE is blank.

Hello, I have a simple question. Is it at all possible to replace columns which has nulls with blank spaces for a float data type column. The columns has null values( written)) in it in some rows and has numbers in other rows . I want to remove nulls before copying it to another file. Thanks
When i do a select on my emplee table for rows with null idCompany i dont get any records
I then try to modify the table to not allow a null idCompany and i get this error message:
'Employee (aMgmt)' table - Unable to modify table. Cannot insert the value NULL into column 'idCompany', table 'D2.aMgmt.Tmp_Employee'; column does not allow nulls. INSERT fails. The statement has been terminated.
I have a table where different types of values are stored in one field, but I need to seperate them into different fields based on a value in another field.
For (hypothetical) example:
There is an existing table with following info in three columns: userid record recordtag 1 joe 1 1 j 2 1 jr 3 2 bob 1 2 a 2 2 sr 3 where recordtag indicates (1 for first name, 2 for middle initial, 3 for suffix)
I need to query these records for a report so it the output is:
userID firstname middleinitial suffix 1 joe j jr 2 bob a sr
What's the most efficient approach to create a query that will give me desired results? I have managed to create a very complex query that derives tables for each column I want to create and queries off of that derived table for the 'record' value based on the 'recordtag' values for a given 'userid'. The query is extremely slow, so I know there's some better way out there to get the results I want. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Basically I need to get the SUM of the sum of three columns and all three columns have nulls. To make it more complicated, the result set must return the top 20 in order desc as well.
I keep facing different issues whether I try and use Coalesce, IsNull, Sum, count, anything. My query never returns anything but 0 or NULL regardless of if I am trying to build a CTE or just use a query.
So I'm using Col A to get the TOP 20 in order (which is fine) but also trying to add together the sums of Col A + Col B + Col C for each of the twenty rows...
Suppose that I have a table with following values Table1 Col1 Col2 Col3 ----------------------------------------------------------- P3456 C935876 T675 P5555 C678909 T8888
And the outcome that I want is: CombinedValues(ColumnName) ---------------------------------------------- P3456 - C935876 - T675 P5555 - C678909 - T8888
where CombinedValues column contains values of coulmn 1,2 & 3 seperated by '-' So is there any way to achieve this?
I have a table #vert where I have value column. This data needs to be updated into two channel columns in #hori table based on channel number in #vert table.
CREATE TABLE #Vert (FILTER VARCHAR(3), CHANNEL TINYINT, VALUE TINYINT) INSERT #Vert Values('ABC', 1, 22),('ABC', 2, 32),('BBC', 1, 12),('BBC', 2, 23),('CAB', 1, 33),('CAB', 2, 44) -- COMBINATION OF FILTER AND CHANNEL IS UNIQUE CREATE TABLE #Hori (FILTER VARCHAR(3), CHANNEL1 TINYINT, CHANNEL2 TINYINT) INSERT #Hori Values ('ABC', NULL, NULL),('BBC', NULL, NULL),('CAB', NULL, NULL) -- FILTER IS UNIQUE IN #HORI TABLE
One way to achieve this is to write two update statements. After update, the output you see is my desired output
UPDATE H SET CHANNEL1= VALUE FROM #Hori H JOIN #Vert V ON V.FILTER=H.FILTER WHERE V.CHANNEL=1 -- updates only channel1 UPDATE H SET CHANNEL2= VALUE FROM #Hori H JOIN #Vert V ON V.FILTER=H.FILTER WHERE V.CHANNEL=2 -- updates only channel2 SELECT * FROM #Hori -- this is desired output
my channels number grows in #vert table like 1,2,3,4...and so Channel3, Channel4....so on in #hori table. So I cannot keep writing too many update statements. One other way is to pivot #vert table and do single update into #hori table.
Here's a question I though would be common but can't find an answer to! My select statement, which pulls from SQL Server tables, has a column which allows nulls. When I try to add a parameter to this column, it no longer returns rows that have null in that column when I test it with the default value of %. I want it to return all the records. SELECT Jobs.JobID, Jobs.JobName, Engineers.Engineer FROM Jobs LEFT OUTER JOIN Engineers ON Jobs.AccountManager = Engineers.ID WHERE (Engineers.Engineer = @Engineer) Parameter is;ConvertEmptyStringToNull = TrueDefaultValue = %Direction = InputName = EngineerQueryStringField = EngineerSize = 0Type = Empty When I run this I get no records! Isn't % suppose to return anything including nulls?
I am new at replication and it has been going well, but have more of an information question that a problem. Basically I have transactional replication without updates. So i am pushing from the publisher to the subscriber only. I have added a table to the publisher side, and it is not replicating to the subscriber. Data pushes fine. I have read about reinitializing, adding article, etc. I do not know which is the way to go, I need it to happen automatically.
Which way and how? Any help is appreciated greatly.

Why is it that when I include a column from my SQL Server database table, which has it's Allow Nulls checked, in the data source of a control that the record becomes not update-able? How do I get around this?
I have a problem. I have two feilds in a table. Both of them are (int). I want to be able make sure the same number is not put in both columns for each row. Both colums have to be a different number, and also if one is null, the other cannot be. How do I go about enforcing this policy?
I have an SSIS Package. I am using script component to loop through input columns and their values. I am not able to do Null checking. The code is as below. In place of dashes , I want to do null checking but am not able to do. I tried vbNull, IsNull, TypeOf, System.dbNull but nothing is working. I guess am missing something here. Can anyone help me with this.
For Each column In Me.ComponentMetaData.InputCollection(0).InputColumnCollection
I'm trying to unpivot a table in SSIS: The pivoted table basically looks like
ID DATE1 TEXT1 DATE2 TEXT2
----------------------------------
ID1 D1 T1 D2 T2
...
The unpivoted result looks like
ID DATE TEXT
-------------------
ID1 D1 T1
ID1 D2 T2
€¦
It works, but the one problem I am facing is: If D1 IS NULL in the pivoted table then D1 in the unpivoted table contains some strange value that is neither NULL nor a valid datetime. In a data viewer I get the in the DATE field "Fehler: Die Parameter Year, Month and Day beschreiben eine nicht darstellbare Datetime." (i. e. "Error: The parameters Year, Month and Day form an invalid datetime."). The loading of the OLE DB target yields an error because the DATE value cannot be converted to a valid datetime.
I have been away from SQL for a couple of months, and for the life of me cannot work out a simple way to do what i want to do.
select bu1.name,bu2.name, bu3.name, bu4.name, bu5.name from Sale INNER JOIN Sysuser on sale.userid = sysuser.userid INNER JOIN businessunitBU1 on BU1.Businessunitid = sysuser.businessunitid left JOIN businessunitBU2 on BU2.Businessunitid = bu1.parentbusinessunitid left JOIN businessunitBU3 on BU3.Businessunitid = bu2.parentbusinessunitid left JOIN businessunitBU4 on BU4.Businessunitid = bu3.parentbusinessunitid left JOIN businessunitBU5 on BU5.Businessunitid = bu4.parentbusinessunitid
So effectively i am trying to go through the hierarchy to find all the levels. Unforunately not every entry has the same amount of levels.
We have SharePoint list which has, say, two columns. Column A and Column B.
Column A can have three values - red, blue & green.
Column B can have four values - pen, marker, pencil & highlighter.
A typical view of list can be:
Column A - Column B red  - pen red - pencil red - highlighter blue - marker blue - pencil green - pen green - highlighter red  - pen blue - pencil blue - highlighter blue - pencil
We are looking to create a report from SharePoint List using SSRS which has following view:
          red   blue  green   pen       2    0    1   marker    0    1    0   pencil      1    3    0   highlighter  1    1    1Â
We tried Sum but not able to display in single row.
I am trying to get a table from production to development created and populated with data in Prod. When I create a package to set the data flow on the available input columns in mappings I do not see any columns there. The source has been defined as the production table.
I have been trying for some time to create a columnar report where certain columns can be hidden as requested by the user. I have tried placing the complete column set in the report, and then hiding a subset of columns, but blank pages are produced when rendered to PDF since the report body does not appear to shrink as columns are hidden and justify themselves to the left. I have tried a table, list, and matrix to no avail...
Does anyone know of a workaround, a trick, or even a hack that may accomplish what I am after?
I have an SSIS package that imports data from an Excel file, replaces any value in Excel that reads "NULL" to "", then writes the data to a couple of databases.
What I have discovered today, is I have two columns of dates, an admit date and discharge date column, and what I need to do is anywhere I have a null value in the discharge date column, I have to replace it with the value in the admit date column.Â
I have searched around online and tried a few things using the Replace funtion in Derived columns but no dice so far.Â
I'm built a trace in SQL Profiler and I have selected columns "DatabaseName" and "Filename" (among others) to be displayed. When I run the trace, the columns are displayed but the values are blank. The SQLServer 2K version is 8.0.760. Is this a bug or am I missing something?
Replicating from SQL Server 2005 to Oracle 9i Release 2. The source table has NOT NULL specified for all columns. The table contains multiple rows with blank values in one of the NOT NULL columns. When I attempt to replicate this table to Oracle, I'm unable to replicate the rows containing the blank values.
I've followed the directions in the Oracle Subscribers page in Books Online: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms151738.aspx
Modify the generated create table script, removing the NOT NULL attribute from any character columns that may have associated empty strings, and supply the modified script as a custom create script for the article using the @creation_script parameter of sp_addarticle Here is the segment of the Publication Script referencing sp_addarticle:
exec sp_addarticle @publication = N'mike_hayes_test_replication2', @article = N'mike_hayes_test_replication', @source_owner = N'bmssa', @source_object = N'mike_hayes_test_replication', @type = N'logbased', @description = N'', @creation_script = 'CREATE TABLE [bmssa].[mike_hayes_test_replication2]( [EXCELCOLUMN] [int] NULL, [TABLENAME] [varchar](40) NULL, [FIELDNUM] [int] NULL , [REFTABLEID] [int] NULL , [MODULETYPE] [int] NULL , [DATAAREAID] [varchar](3) NULL, [RECVERSION] [int] NULL, [RECID] [int] NULL, [BRAND] [varchar](20) NULL )', @pre_creation_cmd = N'drop', @schema_option = 0x00, @identityrangemanagementoption = N'manual', @destination_table = N'mike_hayes_test_replication2', @destination_owner = N'bmssa', @vertical_partition = N'false' GO I added the @creation_script value, and changed the schema_option to 0x00. The problem is that when replication occurs, the table that is created has NOT NULL specified for all columns. I expected that the @creation_script would be executed, (as per the instructions), but that doesn't appear to be the case. Any ideas? Thanks for your help. Mike Hayes
Hi, I have fields in my table which allow nulls. Is it efficient to not insert anything (the field automatically shows up as null in this case) and leave or store some value into it. The field is a smallint field?
I have a query which is returning a different result set when it is run against identical tables in 2 different environments.
The query is like:
Select F.LicenseeID, IsSpecialLicensee from FactTable F left join View_SpecialLicensee SL on F.LicenseeID = SL.LicenseeID
The Create Statement for the view is like
Create View [dbo].[View_SpecialLicensee] as Select LicenseeID, LicenseeName, IsSpecialLicensee = 1 from DimensionLicensee where LicenseeName like '%ibm%' or LicenseeName like '%cisco%' or LicenseeName like '%hp%'
In my test environment, I get the query result I expected: LicenseeID, IsSpecialLicensee 1 , 1 - (where LicenseeName = 'IBM') 2, null - (where LicenseeName = 'Juniper') 3, 1 - (where LicenseeName = 'Cisco') 4, null - (where LicenseeName = 'Microsoft') 5, null - (where LicenseeName = 'Oracle') 6, null - (where LicenseeName = 'Apple')
In my production environment, I get the following query result: 1 , 1 - (where LicenseeName = 'IBM') 2, 1 - (where LicenseeName = 'Juniper') 3, 1 - (where LicenseeName = 'Cisco') 4, 1 - (where LicenseeName = 'Microsoft') 5, 1 - (where LicenseeName = 'Oracle') 6, 1 - (where LicenseeName = 'Apple')
Ideas as to what changed gratefully received.
FYI the production environment which returned the 2nd dataset is SQL2000, I have got the result I expected in both SQL2000 and SQL2005 development environments.
In ssis i am using ado.net and selecting odbc driver i am giving select statement which is having 100 columns in that 50 columns values are NULLS Its giving error saying Null columns not found.
If i add column s which are non null no error .error with null values.
I have created a single FULLTEXT on col2 & col3. suppose i want to search col2='engine' and col3='toyota' i write query as
SELECT
TBL.col2,TBL.col3 FROM
TBL INNER JOIN
CONTAINSTABLE(TBL,col2,'engine') TBL1 ON
TBL.col1=TBL1.[key] INNER JOIN
CONTAINSTABLE(TBL,col3,'toyota') TBL2 ON
TBL.col1=TBL2.[key]
Every thing works well if database is small. But now i have 20 million records in my database. Taking an exmaple there are 5million record with col2='engine' and only 1 record with col3='toyota', it take substantial time to find 1 record.
I was thinking this i can address this issue if i merge both columns in a Single column, but i cannot figure out what format i save it in single column that i can use query to extract correct information. for e.g.; i was thinking to concatinate both fields like col4= ABengineBA + ABBToyotaBBA and in search i use SELECT
TBL.col4 FROM
TBL INNER JOIN
CONTAINSTABLE(TBL,col4,' "ABengineBA" AND "ABBToyotaBBA"') TBL1 ON
TBL.col1=TBL1.[key] Result = 1 row
But it don't work in following scenario col4= ABengineBA + ABBCorola ToyotaBBA
SELECT
TBL.col4 FROM
TBL INNER JOIN
CONTAINSTABLE(TBL,col4,' "ABengineBA" AND "ABB*ToyotaBBA"') TBL1 ON
TBL.col1=TBL1.[key]
Result=0 Row Any idea how i can write second query to get result?
