Numbers From A Form Into SQL Server

Jan 6, 2004

I'm trying to take data from a form and insert it into a SQL database. Everything works fine until I try inserting a number with the comma separator in the number field. The data type in SQL is integer. Are there any special settings to get SQL to accept a comma separated number using ASP?

Inputting Random Numbers To Table Column From Web Form

Feb 28, 2007

I'm grappling with this issue which I thought was basic VB programming; I'm trying to insert a random number (between 100 and 999) into a SQL table column (=Status_ID). This is input as part of a user submitting helpdesk requests via a APS.Net Web Form. The 'Status_ID' field is obviously not visible to the user but will help reference this Helpdesk request on the database. Here is the code:Protected Sub submitButton_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles submitButton.Click        If Page.IsValid Then            ' Define data objects            Dim conn As SqlConnection            Dim comm As SqlCommand            ' Read the connection string from web.config            Dim connectionString As String = _            ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("ITNet_Students").ConnectionString            ' Initialize connection            conn = New SqlConnection(connectionString)            ' Create command            comm = New SqlCommand( _            "INSERT INTO HelpDesk (First_Name, Last_Name, StudentID, PersonalEmail," & _            "CategoryID, SubjectID, Description, StatusID) " & _            "VALUES (@First_Name, @Last_Name, @StudentID, @PersonalEmail, " & _            "@CategoryID, @SubjectID, @Description, @StatusID)", conn)            ' Use randomize            Randomize()            Dim randomvalue As Integer            ' Generate random value between 999 and 100.            randomvalue = Int((900 * Rnd()) + 100)            ' Add command parameters            comm.Parameters.Add("@First_Name", System.Data.SqlDbType.NVarChar, 50)            comm.Parameters("@First_Name").Value = fnameTextBox.Text            .            .            .            comm.Parameters.Add("@StatusID", System.Data.SqlDbType.Int)            comm.Parameters("@StatusID").Value = randomvalue            'Enclose database code in Try-Catch-Finally            Try                ' Open connection                conn.Open()                ' Execute the command                comm.ExecuteNonQuery()                ' Reload page if the query executed successfully                Response.Redirect("HelpDesk.aspx")            Catch                ' Display error message                dbErrorMessage.Text = _                    "Error submitting the help desk request! Please try again later, and/or change the entered data!"            Finally                'close connection                conn.Close()            End Try        End If    End Sub----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I keep getting the error message under 'Catch'  and the page 'HelpDesk.aspx' is not reloading; the 'comm.ExecuteNonQuery()' is not executing. Can anyone spot any inconsistencies in the declaration of the 'randomvalue' variable?P.S: this code works fine if you replace 'randomvalue' with any integer in 'comm.Parameters("@StatusID").Value = randomvalue'

Formatting Numbers In A Mixed Column (numbers In Some Cells Strings In Other Cells) In Excel As Numbers

Feb 1, 2007

I have a report with a column which contains either a string such as "N/A" or a number such as 12. A user exports the report to Excel. In Excel the numbers are formatted as text.

I already tried to set the value as CDbl which returns error for the cells containing a string.

The requirement is to export the column to Excel with the numbers formatted as numbers and the strings such as "N/A' in the same column as string.

Any suggestions?

One Form To Update Different SQL Tables Based Upon Form Selection

Apr 16, 2008

Hello,
My company Intranet has a form that agents can use to post their comments about the company to upper management, but our customer service department would like to modify the form so that the agent has to pick from a comment type.
The dropdown options on the form will be as follows:
ComplimentsComplaintsGeneral CommentsSuggestions
Each dropdown option has a designated table in a SQL DB.Using postback on the same page, I need to change which fields of the form are visible based upon which dropdown selection the user chooses, and I need the fields to then be inserted into the table that corresponds with the dropdown selection item.
For example: If the Compliments dropdown selection is picked, I need a text box to show for the user's location, the name of the customer, account number, and the message box. Once the submit button is clicked, the characters in these boxes need to be inserted into the Compliments table using its data adapter.
However, if the user selects Suggestions, the name of the customer and the account number should not be visible, since these fields do not exist and when the submit button is pressed, the Suggestions table should be updated.
If you need more information, I will provide whatever is needed.
As always, thanks for everyone's assistance.
Chris

I Need To Update A Table With Random Numbers Or Sequential Numbers

Mar 11, 2008

I have a table with a column ID of ContentID. The ID in that column is all NULLs. I need a way to change those nulls to a number. It does not matter what type of number it is as long as they are different. Can someone point me somewhere with a piece of T-SQL that I could use to do that. There are over 24000 rows so cursor change will not be very efficient.

Thanks for any help

How To Make The SSMSE To Return Whole Records Without Any Close Query Form And Re-create Query Form Operation?

Dec 25, 2007

Hi,
I got a problem.
I installed Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express 2005 version.
And I created a Compact database.
I created an connection in SSMSE to connect the database and opened a query form.
then, i run the following sql:

Select * from Table1

It returned 3 records to me.
After that, I used program to insert record into this table.
Then i ran this sql again, it still show me 3 records.
I closed the query form, and re-created a new query form, then run the sql, it returned 4 records to me.

Why? It's very strange and difficult to operate, right?
Is there anyone know how to make the SSMSE to return whole records without any close query form and re-create query form operation?

Thanks a lot!

And Merry X'max!!!

First Form Normalizations And Second Form Normalization

Jul 19, 2006

Hi everyone,
What is the main difference between first form normalizations and second form normalization ?
In my opinion, they are both generated for the same operation which is to prevent redundancy(in other words; duplication of data in several records).
So would you please explain it to me ?

Thanks

select [numbers from 0 to 40000] where <number> not in (select distinct id from mytable)

but don't know how. Any clues?

Dataflow To Excel - Convert Numbers Stored As Text To Numbers Excel Cell Error

Mar 27, 2007

I'm trying to write data to excel from an ssis component to a excel destination.

Even thought I'm writing numerics, every cell gets this error with a green tag:

Convert numbers stored as text to numbers

Excel Cells were all pre-formated to accounting 2 decimal, and if i manually type the exact data Im sending it formats just fine.

I'm hearing this a common problem -

On another project I was able to find a workaround for the web based version of excel, by writing this to the top of the file:

<style>.text { mso-number-format:@; } </style>

is there anything I can pre-set in excel (cells are already formated) or write to my file so that numerics are seen as numerics and not text.

Maybe some setting in my write drivers - using sql servers excel destination.

So close.. Thanks for any help or information.

ASP.NET Mini Form With SQL Server 2000

Sep 28, 2005

Hi, i  have created a mini form to test out easy steps and my sql
connection but something is wrong with my connection i think...

I am running windows XP Pro SP 2.  i have Microsoft VisStudio .NET 2003
fully installed and now im installing SQL Server 2000 Developrs
Edition.  I just cimpleted the installaion and picked some settings:

Local Computer Installation, Create new Instance since this is the
first time i use it, Server and Client Tools, and chose a Local rather
the Domain option aferwards.  (i have used this version before but had
to format the comp so now reinstalling everything).

My problem is this, i basically started the server and it on online.  i
went to the "enterprise manager" and in the "Microsoft SQL Servers
-> SQWL Server Group -> (Local)(Windows NT)-> Databases, i
created a new database called tables and added a single table just to
begin testing to see if at least its functional.  i was able to do this
so far.

Now i started my .NET, and wrote a tiny program to see if the
connection to the SQL database would open, but it didnt.  It always
failed.  i am programming an ASP.NET WebApplication.  I cant open the
connection to my database.  i dont know why.  (The tiny piece of code i
wrote is at the bottom in case you know c#).  There is a note also
under the code for the ones who will read through its simlicity

any help or walk through would be appreciated.  thank u...

Web Form To Update SQL Server 2005 DB

Jul 26, 2007

Bear with me plase as I am nto very familiar with the coding world. The project I am working on is giving me troubles. I am trying to set up a form that can be used on line for our sales staff. It is a call activity form that I was hoping to submit to the DB I Have created in SQL. I would like the sales staff to fill out this form and then have their information transferred to the DB so that I can generate reports from that data. The trouble I am having is getting the intial connection to the DB opened up using the submit button on the form. I go into the code behind the page, and I have entered many scripts with no success. I continue to see that I receive erros when I try to use the opening line:
Dim cn As New ADODB.Connection

If anyone out there has some sample scripting that would help me with this, I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

Object_id Numbers On Same Server

Aug 23, 2000

I restored a development database to a test database on the same server. I thought this would be a good
thing to do because testers would have the same data as developers and the tables would be exactly alike.
However, I noticed that the object_id is identical for the tables. For example, the Accounting Calendar in the development
database and the Accounting Calendar in the test database have the same Object_id. Could anyone verify that
this is or is not going to cause me trouble?

Migrate Form Stand Alone To Clustered Server

Apr 17, 2006

Here is the scenario:
We have an existing production non clustered SQL 2000 server instance that we need to migrate to a new clustered SQL 2000 server instance. We need to accomplish this without affecting the FQDN that applications use to call this server. I found this article on a solution to rename the server after an xcopy of the entire db structure. Here is the link http://vyaskn.tripod.com/moving_sql_server.htm. The other issue that we are trying to resolve is the time it takes for the snapshots of replication to run (in our case almost a full day). That is why this approach looked like it may be a good solution for us.

Here is the question:
Is it possible to move our existing database to a new clustered environment without having to change the FQDN that other applications use to access this database and without having to reinitialize replication?

Import Excel Workbook / Form Into Server

Oct 20, 2014

My database has mirgrated from Access to a SQL Server. As of now, we use SharePoint for our data entry form and it works great exporting an Excel workbook to my desktop and then import to the SQL Server and drop it in the tables that apply. The management team wants to get rid of SP and have all 110 project owners use a template Excel workbook I created and then anytime they have new projects or changes to existing they use this template and email it to me. The problem is the template has partial text, combox boxes, checkboxes and drop-down boxes. In Access I can spend a couple weeks creating VBA code to import this but not sure how this is done in SQL Server. The 2nd issue is why in the heck would they even want to go this route. This seems to be a coding nightmare, then I have to store all the Excel workbooks somewhere for history sake. It just seems to me that keeping the SP site is much smarter for them and for me. My question is not related to SP because I am going to push to keep that up anyway. I just want to know is it possible for SQL Server to import a workbook that has form functions on it easily or is it a stored procedure coding nightmare?

When Submitting Form, SQL Server Fields Only Show The First Letter

Nov 30, 2005

Hi, I'm new around here and am stumped.  I have created a form where I submit the information into a SQL Server 2000 table.  When I submit the information through the form, only the first character of each field populates inside of the SQL table.  This happens for every field except for two, zip and comments.  The zip field is numeric and the comments field is text.  All the other fields are varchar fields; and these are the fields with the problems.  I have attempted to change the data type to text, but that did not work either.  I am doing this through a stored procedure I created.  Here is the asp code:

SQL Server 2008 :: Extracting Numbers From String

Jun 2, 2015

Anyny in-built sql function that gives us numeric values in a string?

I have to deal with some inconsistent US phone numbers stored in DB. They are stored as

(xxx)xxx-xxxx
xxx xxxx xxxx
(xxx) xxx-xxxx
xxx-xxx-xxxx
xxxxxxxxxx

I don't want to apply nested REPLACE function to eliminate all unnecessary characters to get 10 digit number from DB.

Transact SQL :: Find / Replace Numbers In Server

Aug 12, 2015

I have a separate list of calendar years with radiocarbon year equivalents in SQL server but no conversion equation. Most but not all of the data I have is in radiocarbon years. I thought at first I could just link the tables but I don't want the data that is already in calendar years to be linked to this conversion table. Is there any way I can either link the two tables with criteria for which data is linked (Only ages that are in radiocarbon years). Or possibly a way to query all ages that are in radiocarbon years and do something similar to a find and replace with a large list of numbers to change?
