Hello all!I have such question to all of you.I have some tables linked from MS SQL Server 2000. Is time of processingquerybased on these linked tables from MS SQL Server 2000, faster or slower thanthe time of processing the same query based on tables, which are not linkedbutimported to MS Access? Can you answer this question?Thank you in advance for postsMarcin from Poland.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Microsoft Access application which uses linked SQL Server tables. I would like to create an ODBC DSN which would be available to all users so that I don't have to create a DSN on each machine. Can this be done? The Access application resides on a shared drive (Windows). Thanks for your help.
I just want the simple steps. I think this is linking through get external db? Is it different from SQL Server 2005?
Is this an Access question or a SQL server question.

I am using SSIS 2014 with the below .net framework version and installed in Windows server 2012 R2 . I have installed my client's odbc drivers (both 32 bit and 64 bit) in my production server and created ODBC system DSNs for 32 bit and 64 bit.
When i open SSIS 2014 and tried to create the odbc connection but i can able to see only the 32 bit system DSN connection ,i can't able to see my 64 bit odbc system dsn connection.
Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 Shell (Integrated)

Hi all,
we have recently purchased a server with sql 2005. One of the things we are looking to do is pull our entire informix database over onto the sql box. I have tried using the import/export wizard however when it comes to the copying I the option to copy all tables is greyed out. I have been able to do this sql to sql but not when i select the source as odbc and destination as sql.
I need to try and resolve this quite quickly and any advice/help would be appreciated. Please bear in mind that im relatively new to this stuff. I have had a look at other posts, and am getting the impression that this cannot be done simply. My initial understanding was that this could be done using the DTS in sql 2000 quite simply, but was also told that it should be even easier in 2005..
Well appreciate any help
Ian
Hi,
I am using VB.NET 2005 and set up an ODBC connection via ODBC.ODBCConnection to a MDB database. Therefor, I use the "Microsoft Access ODBC Driver (*.mdb)".
When I set up a ODBCCommand like "ALTER DATABASE..." or "CREATE TABLE..." and issue it with the com.ExecuteNonQuery() command, I get an error from ODBC driver, that a SQL statement has to begin with SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE or DELETE.
How can I use DDL statements via ODBC?
I would appreciate if you could help me to use ODBC for that - no OLE, no ADO.
Thanks for help!

I am running Windows XP Pro SP2. I have installed the SQL Native Client for
XP. However, when I try to add a new data source through ODBC Connection
Manager, SQL Native Client is not listed as an option. I have followed this procedure on three other systems with no problems. What would be causing the
SQL Native Client to not show up in the list of available ODBC data sources?

Hi Everyone,
I have set up a link from ACCESS to a SQL 7.0 database using ODBC (File DSN saved on a shared DRIVE). The link works well only from the workstation where the link was created. But How can I create a link so a group of users can view the linked table in ACCESS without type a password? Any suggestion is appreciated.

I have inherited some 4 SQL servers running 6.5 and 7.0
Some of the servers have MS Access Installed and some
have an "upsizing to SQL Server" wizard under the MS
Access TOOLS/Add-Ins/.
Some do not. I need to locate where this utility comes
from. I think it must come from the 6.5 or 7.0 SQL Server
Install CD.
Does anyone know for sure?

Hello,
I am very new to SQL server and have a question.
I just converted my Access 97 database to SQL Server database using Microsofts SQL Upsize Wizard.
I then changed the connection string in my web page to use SQL server.
We'll here is what happened.
My ASP web page works.. Sort of.. It is using SQL server to call the data, but no data appears on my web page. I know it is using SQL server, because if I stop SQL server service, then the page does not work.
I am assuming that maybe something went wrong during the conversion from Access to SQL Server and SQL server is unable to read the table.
Does anyone have a guess to what might of happened?
I appreciate it.
Thank You
Ed York
Hello guys,
I am not sure if this is appropriate forum to ask but I have the folowing problem:
My client has MS Access database with about 116 tables in it. They need to transfer all tables to MS SQL server and keep application in working mode :) so far so good. I decided to use MS Access Upsizing wizard to do the job and this is the reason I am writing now... when the wizards proceeds (I am moving to SQL 2005) about 50/116 tables it just stops without warning or error in report... The only error I got is that some tables has no unique index and they cannot be updattable.
Does anyone have an idea?
Thank you in advance
Hi,
I want to upsize a db from Access to SQL Server.
I have a version of Access 2000 that has not got the Upsizing Wizard add-in loaded, and can't find the install disc. Does anyone know if it is downloadable, and if so, from where?
Thanks

I am using the Upsizing Wizard to create a copy of an Access database as a SQL Server database. The original .mdb is 14 mb. The resulting MSSQL database is 72 MB. Why the huge increase in size?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've added an SqlDataSource control to my web page and selected "Configure Data Source" on it. This brings up a "Choose Your Data Connection" wizard, and it asks you to select from a dropdown list of presumably pre-existing connection strings in my web.config file. However none of my connection strings will display in that dropdown list. The only thing i can do is hit the "Create New Connection" button and this adds yet another connection string to my web.config file. I've already ran through the wizard once, created a new connection string, but when i run through the wizard again, even the new connection string - the one created by the last wizard will not appear in the dropdown list. Any suggestions? Jason
View 3 Replies View RelatedHi,
I have used the SSIS import/export wizard to create a transfer from one database to another.
Q1: Why are some files from this wizard stored in the the temp folder ?
Example: C:Documents and SettingspbhLocal SettingsTemp
This is extreemly unuseful when checking in the solution in tfs since these files will not be saved.
Q2: I have tried to move these files and manually edit the location for these file references in the dtsx package file. However: The connection string wants an absolute path for the files..
Example:
DTS:Name="ConnectionString">c: mp1EA.tmp
How can I refer to $project$ mp1ea.tmp, a relative path to the project directory instead?

i have a website project making an online catalog, maybe 20 categories, a few hundred items. the small business starter kit looked perfect to jump start this. the client has provided an access database with the two table for categories and products. i've got the dts wizard installed and have been trying to import the access data into the sbsk database but i'm stuck. i'm almost positive that ONE time when i was banging around with the dts wizard, the Edit Mapping screen would let me drop down a list of fields in the destination table so I could actually tell it which field data from the source i wanted to go into which field of the destination. Of course it didn't succeed that time and now i can't seem to figure a way to get back to having the option to choose the destination fields, all it gives me in the drop down is "<ignore>" or the field name of the source table, which of course doesn't match any of the ones that are in the sbsk.
i've been back through it for a couple days, trying different ways, migrating the data first to sql, letting it try a transfer to a new table then trying to import that, moving both out to excel, aligning the data manually and trying to import that, etc. i'm bout out of ideas and would sure like to get back to just trying to work out the data type alignment issues with whatever it was i did when i could choose the destination table's fields.
i'd be most appreciative if anyone has a clue what i'm talking about and can put me back on track.

i created a dedicated user for making snapshots in the new created and functionable publication, but when i start the web sync wizard, i alwas get the failurmessages
snapshot share "......" cannot be accessed, please specify a new share
the access permissions based on the share an based on the ntfs area are set right.
the user, i chose for the anonymus access (the same, as for creating snapshots), has enough rights on the folder. also when creating a new share, with different share name, and using another user for anonymus access (standard iusr_machine_name) i get the same message

Hi,
I have a table need to export to excel. 3 columns are 4000k. I can create the ssis package by using import and export wizard and it works fine. But when I try to edit the destination connection for excel, like using another excel file. In the edit window, the Name of the Excel Sheet box is empty, I click new button. It always fail. (with the 3 columns created as varchar (4000) or nvarchar(4000).
I am wondering how import and export wizard can create this table which I can't create it manually?
Thanks
Here is an extract from the Acc2Sql2.doc >>
By default, the Upsizing Wizard
transfers all indexes as nonclustered indexes. You can modify the Upsizing
Wizard to transfer the primary key index to a clustered index. To make this
change, start Microsoft Access and open the upsizing wizard library database.
For Microsoft Access 95, the filename is Wzcs.mda. For Microsoft Access 97, the
filename is Wzcs97.mda. When the database is open, click the Modules tab and open the
UT_ModUserConstants module. Search down to the UT_CLUSTERED constant. Change
the default value from False to True.
<<< end quote
Question: I am using ACCESS 2002 upsize wizard, I searched my computer for *.mda and could not find any wzcs*.mda. How do I set it so that it creates clustered-index instead of non-clustered-index?
Has anyone had an issue with the ODBC data source that when you set it up for SQL, it does not retain the username and password you entered and keeps defaulting back to the NT windows verification instead of using the SQL verification that you choose?
I add a datasource, select validation based off of SQL profile/password assigned, enter the user and password I assigned on SQL, go through the setup and test successfully. Then I try to connect using that datasource with my VB application and it says connection failure. When I go back to the datasource, it has changed back to NT verification and removes the user/password I entered for SQL verification. Maybe there is an service pack from MS on this?
any help is appreciated. At the very least, I can just hard code into my VB app, but that is my last resort. Thanks!
Hi everyone
I installed the MS SQL server 7.0 on a Windows NT 4.0 SP 4 server. The network runs with TCP/IP.
I want to connect the SQL server by a ODBC-connection. Only a connection on the server (local) was successful.
The odbcping-utility reports following:
COULD NOT CONNECT TO SQL SERVER
SQLState: 08001 Native Error: 6
Info. Message: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNMPNTW]Selected SQL server not found.
SQLState: 01000 Native Error: 53
Info. Message: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNMPNTW]ConnectionOpen (CreateFile()).
Do I forget to install a SQL server component? Or a network service?
Thank you for your help.
Greetings
Steven
I am currently running a application and a database server they are connected via ethernet. Only the application is connected to our network. Is there a way to connect MS Access to the database server without connecting the database server to the network? I've tried several different approaches and it still dosent work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Would someone provide a code snip example of a T-SQL script using an ODCB connection against a non-SQL2K database. I can hit the outside database using DTS (so I know it is possible) but I'm having trouble with the parameters using a script.
Thanks,
