In order to install OLAP Services (the Client for the OLAP Manager specifically), do you need to have NT 4.0 or should you be able to install the client on Win95?
I have Win95 at my desktop and when I install OLAP Service, I only get the "MDX Sample Application" and the "Readme" file to install. During the setup, these are the only two options available for installation.
I've installed SQL7.0 and OLAP service on my PC(windows 95), but I cannot find the OLAP Manager. Can an OLAP Manager be installed on Windows 95? If it cannot, can I create an OLAP database (or application) on my PC?
I'm trying to register a remote OLAP server under OLAP Manager. After I enter the machine name I get the following:
Errors occurred while connecting to <server>. Cannot open the following registry key on the server computer (<server>): SoftwareMicrosoftOLAP ServerServer Connection Info Do you still want to register this server?
The noticeable thing about this error message is that the registry key is missing the first level (HKEY_....). Has anyone been able to register a remote server? I can run OLAP Manager on the server without a problem. I just uninstalled and reinstalled OLAP services on the server and my desktop. There is a registry key with this path under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE on the server.
I have SQL Server and OLAP Server running on an NT Server box, and a pc running NT Workstation which has OLAP Manager installed on it. I can register the OLAP Server just fine in OLAP Manager, but it takes about 30sec to a minute for the pc to actually connect to the server.
We've also installed SQL Server and OLAP Server on a Win 2000 machine, and the OLAP connection is faster.
Could this be related to a network routing issue, OLAP or SQL server install issue?
I can't get the OLAP Manager to install on my client PC running Windows95. It does install on the server running NT4.0. I want to remotely administer the OLAP, just like I do with the Enterprise Manager on the client. Anyone have any suggestions? Do you have to have NT on the client?
Our OLAP environment involves an ETL/Data Warehouse/Data Mart server and a cube publisher server. We would like to learn how to automate the Archival/Restore of OLAP databases. We are currently doing it manually though OLAP Manager. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. James.

Please help,I am trying to install MSDE 2000 so that Backup exec will run on thisserver. I have gotten so far as to find an entry in my SQLSTP.TXT filethat says that c:mssql7 was detected so the install fails. Now, to start with there is no directory called C:mssql7 on thisserver. I have gone through all MS articles on manual removal of SQLserver and instances. I have searched the registry for mssql7 andremoved any keys that matched, as per MS article I have searched onSQLBOOT.dll and it is not present anywhere on my system and I still getthe same results.2:07:44 Begin Action: Detection12:07:44 SQL Server version already installed: 7.00.62312:07:44 Previous Install SQL Path: C:MSSQL712:07:44 Previous Install SQL Data Path: C:MSSQL712:07:44 End Action Detection12:07:44 Begin Action: ODBCLocked12:07:44 End Action ODBCLocked12:07:44 GetDefinition returned: 112:07:44 Previous SQL Server ProductType: MSDE [0x4]12:07:44 This combination of Package and Operating System allows a fullproduct install.can anyone think of anything here..what else could be causing the server to think there is a previousversion of SQL 7 on this box!!!?
I get an error when trying to install the SQL Native Client. It says it cannot find the installation package and to use a valid copy of 'sqlncli.msi'. I've downloaded the Express setup twice and get the same error from both of them.
I'm attempting this in a VMWare session setup for Windows 2K, Advanced Server. I am trying to test my installation and setup procedures. This is not a production setup, just install testing and documentation. I have allocated only 272MB to the VMWare session, which is why the system doesn't meet the recommended settings.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A user was created with a limited privilege under the USERS group. Once this user loged in the Report Manager he is acting like an Admin and Content Manager, though he is not given even a browser role.

On one of our machines, all of the SQL Server 2000components except for the main Server component (SQL Servercore) itself were installed (Management tools, etc) a while agoand everything was running fine. Now I go and add/install theServer component and then Service Pack 3a.It seems that Service Manager won't start up (I get an hourglass cursor)and now I find that Enterprise Manager won't run as well. No errormessages appeared and I don't think I saw anything unusual inthe log file. However, I can use Enterprise Manager on a differentmachine and connect to the database (so the databaseitself seems to be running).Any suggestions as to what the problem might be and how tofix it? I like to see if I can repair this without havingto do a reinstall.Thanks.PF
IF someone can assist me. Everytime I load up enterprise manager the service manager turns off. And the enterprise manager can't connect to the local database. But everytime i turn it back on and try to connect again it shuts it off and around and around we go. Help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Has anyone tried installing an OLAP Manager 2000 instance on a server that already supports SQL 7.0 and OLAP 7.0? We will not be using the OLAP 7.0 instance so we would like to either upgrage OLAP 7.0 to OLAP 2000 or unistall OLAP 7.0 altogether. Any feedback would be helpful. Thanks. James.
I was working with an OLAP Services Processing Task when I ran into some difficulties. I was prompted with a message which told me that the object could not be found. When I went back to the OLAP Manager I was not able to see the databases for that server.
Does anyone know why I can no longer see these databases i have tried refreshing/rebooting......??
Analysis services is installed on a Windows 2000 server (call it computer A) in Domain A. SQL 2000 has been installed on the server using mixed security. All of the SQL services are running under an account in Domain A (not local system). The problem is the computer (call it computer B) I wish to run Analysis Manager on and use to administer the Analysis services on Computer A is in Domain B. There are no trusts between Domain A and Domain B. Can Analysis services be administered by a computer in a domain not trusting the domain that the server running Analysis server is in? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Hi, Can anyone tell me where to fine some good help on designing Date type dimensions in an OLAP cube. This particular thing has been a pain for me.. I have a Time dimension in my CUBE which has year-week-day as levels. I want the week to start from Monday and span seven days ( naturally !! ). But OLAP surprises and entertains me by showing different number of days in every week. Whatever I do, it never starts a week on Monday and spans it for next 7 days consistently.
