OLDER VALUES In DDL Trigger

Feb 28, 2008

Hi All

Can anyone help me to keep track of older view or stored Procedure that has been altered so that I can compare the two and make out the changes that have been made.At present I 'm able to get just the  altered view or storedProcedure but how to know that what has been changed.

This will be somewhat similar to Instead if and after in DML trigger but DDL triggers doesn't supports it.If anyone is aware of something then please help

THANKS in advance

Passing Values To Trigger

Jun 12, 2008

Hi all,
I have a store procedure which updates one row of a table. I need to use a trigger, so that it will also update another row in the same table. Like Debit and Credit. Somehow I am not able to pass variables from SP to trigger. Below are my SP and Trigger codes.
STORE PROCEDURE ALTER PROCEDURE dbo.Transfer

(@online varchar(50),
@amount smallmoney,@toaccount varchar(10)
)

AS
Begindeclare @total smallmoney declare @total1 smallmoney
set @total1=1
select @total=TotalAmount from Customers where OnlineID=@online
if @total>=@amount
set @total=dbo.Calulator(@total,@amount)
else
set @total1=0
End
update Customers set TotalAmount=@total where OnlineID=@online
RETURN @total1
TRIGGER ALTER TRIGGER dbo.Updcust ON Customers
FOR update

AS
BEGINdeclare @total2 smallmoney
declare @total3 smallmoneydeclare @amount smallmoney
declare @toaccount varchar(10)
select @total2=TotalAmount from Customers where AccountNumber=8776450012
set @total3=@total2+@amount
UPDATE Customers set TotalAmount=@total3 where AccountNumber=8776450012
END

Gettting Primary Key Values In A DML CREATE TRIGGER

Jun 10, 2008

I would like to get the primary key values in a DML CREATE TRIGGER as follows:
CustomerID = 12 AND InvoiceID = 50
I create the DML trigger for UPDATE and DELETE only, how do I retrieve the values as above ?
Jon Galloway provided a sample in http://weblogs.asp.net/jgalloway/archive/2008/01.aspx but the Primary Key Field and Primary Key Value were inserted into separate columns while I need to combine the Primary Key Field and Primary Key Value into 1 single field, using his example, I want to form the primary key as:
ScoreId = 423
ScoreId = 3064
etc.
Note that his example only show a single primary key in a table whereas I need to handle multiple primary keys in a table.

Create Trigger To Check Values At Insert/update

Feb 10, 2004

I have never used triggers before and I have tried to solve one problem. If I have the column "currency" in a table and want to make sure that the entered value i valid in relation to another table that contains valid currency formats, I did it like this:

---------------------------------
CREATE TRIGGER [trigger_checkCurrency] ON [dbo].[Client]
FOR INSERT, UPDATE
AS
declare @currency as char(50)
declare @country as char(50)

declare cur cursor for SELECT currency, country
FROMinserted

OPEN cur
fetch cur into @currency, @country
WHILE @@FETCH_STATUS = 0
BEGIN
if not exists(select * from listinfoid where listname = 'currency' and listid = @currency)
begin
set @currency = (cast(@currency as varchar (3)) + ' is not a valid currency')
CLOSE cur
DEALLOCATE cur
RAISERROR (@currency,16,-1) with log
return
end
if not exists(select * from listinfoid where listname = 'country' and listid = @country)
begin
set @country = (cast(@country as varchar (3)) + ' is not a valid contry')
CLOSE cur
DEALLOCATE cur
RAISERROR (@country,16,-1) with log
return
end
else
fetch cur into @currency, @country

END
CLOSE cur
DEALLOCATE cur
update Client set currency = UPPER(currency), country = UPPER(country)
---------------------------------

I use a cursor to handle multiple rows in an update query.
(SQL2000-server)

Is there an easier och better way to do this?
I´m a bit unsure of this code.

Thanx!

/Erik

How To Postpone Trigger Fire Until After Both Parent And Child Table Values Have Been Inserted

Feb 13, 2008

Hi all,

I am sure someone must have run into this before. I have a couple of tables with a parent child relationship.

I created a trigger on the insert of the parent but don't want it to fire until both the parent and child have been inserted into.

However sometimes the child may not get inserted in to at all. In other words it is a 1 to 0 or more relationship.

I created the whole insert into the parent and the child and wrapped it all up in a transaction hoping that the trigger would not fire until the transaction actually completed.

However such is not the case and it fires when the parent is inserted into but nothing is inserted into the child yet even though that is part of the transaction.

Is it possible to postpone trigger fire until after both parent and child table values have been inserted?

Thank you,
John

Comparing Dates (older Than)

Feb 21, 2007

Hi Guys,

I am really stuck on exactly how I can do this. I can sudo it in my mind but can't figure out how I would code it.

What i want to do is select all records from a table that the log_date is older than 7 days.

If I was comparing a date i would imagine i would do something like

log_date < NOW()-7

I have looked at:

SELECT player_name, player_last_logon_date,DATEDIFF(day, player_last_logon_date, GETDATE()) AS NumberOfDays from player

select player_name, player_last_logon_date, datepart(dd,player_last_logon_date) from player

but I dont think either is really right. any and all advice would be great!

Thanks

Deleting Older Files

Aug 23, 2004

I have a backup job that has failed.

The database size is 20.6 GB and the Transaction logs are 135MB

The amount of disk space I have left is 3.65MB. Which I know is not going to work.

However on the maintenance plan it is suppose to remove files older than 1 day.

I am wondering if a job works like this:

Step 1 create backup file
Step 2 Create Transaction Log Back up
Step 3 Delete old backup file
Step 4 Delete old Transaction log back up

Which tell me I would need to have double amount of disk space to accommodate 2 20 GB backup file and 2 135MB Transaction log file.

Is this correct??

Also is there a way that I can have step 3,4 done first.

The Posts Should Not Be Older Then 2 Months In Database

Jan 28, 2008

Is it possible to send a email after a certain date has pass by. And 2 days after the email has been sent the post should be removed if the member doesn't answer the message.
example: The posts should not be older then 2 months. When they get older than 2 months the SQL-Server detects this post and sends a messegae to the member if he wants to renew it. If he ignors it for 2 days after the email the post will be removed from the database. (Some posts have images also, They should also be removed from the harddrive)
Is this possible in MSSQL-Server to send email?
If someone could tell me how to create this.

Delete Records Older Than 5 Days .

Aug 20, 2002

Hello ,

I am little confused in writing the exact query i.e filling the correct details in the query .
To simplify let me explain....

I am using the query as

delete MYTABLE
where datediff(dd,loaddate,getdate())>5

I have a table now with loadate column which gets the default date and time . The loadate shows correct date and time when the data was imported in the table .

Now suppose if i want to delete previous 5 days records from today
( for e.g today is 20/08/2002 3:40:00 PM ) ideally it should delete all records which are 5 days older from today . i.e from 20/08/2002 3:40:00 PM to 15/08/2002 3:40:00 PM )
But when i execute the datediff command , it deletes the records previous than 15/08/2002 till 15/08/2002.
The records from 15/08/2002 to 20/08/2002 remain intact .

I am getting some different results .

Am i missing something in the query or i am confused about the calculation of the dates the datediff command performs .

Is the logic correct or i am missing someting important ?

Thanks and Regards

I am in the process of moving a database to a new location. My problem is that I do not have the most recent full backup file. I have a previous full backup file and I also have all of the transaction log backups from the time of the old backup to the present time.

My question is, do I need the most recent backup to restore the database, or can I do it with the older backup plus the transaction log backups?

Thanks in advance.

SQL 2012 :: Mystery Of Transactions Older Than Their Sessions

Mar 8, 2015

So I've been monitoring long-running transactions on a SQL Server that hosts a couple of vendor-supplied databases that look after our factory.Today I noticed a pair that have confused my Excel spreadsheet (that I've been using to analyze these transactions).So here's the weird thing that I spotted. Given this query:

SELECT p.spid, p.login_time, at.transaction_begin_time, datediff(second, p.login_time, at.transaction_begin_time) as [difference]
FROM sys.sysprocesses AS p INNER JOIN
sys.dm_tran_session_transactions AS st ON st.session_id = p.spid INNER JOIN
sys.dm_tran_active_transactions AS at ON st.transaction_id = at.transaction_id

[code]....

I had a look in the event log on the server, which had just been rebooted at around that time. It seems that the clock got changed on boot-up, with the size of it quite surprising. This meant that these processes were able to start their transactions *before* they logged on. Hopefully this doesn't cause any other weird problems.So I've requested an investigation about time synchronization on our virtualization hosts... and in the mean time, have set the SQL Server services to 'delayed start'.

Delete Files Older Than 3 Days Using SSIS Tasks

Aug 11, 2006

I want to delete all files in a given folder that are older than 3 days from today's date.

I tried using a "Foreach Loop container" with a "File System" task inside it but found I couldn't access any file properties such as the file creation date. Am I using the wrong task for this job?

TIA,

Barkingdog

P.S. History of the problem:

I used the sql 2005 Database maintenance program to setup our database backup jobs. One day I noticed that the free space on the drive where we keep the dumps had grown small. I found that we had at least 4 weeks of dumps in there, not the 3 days I wanted to keep! I looked but could not find the "delete file" option in the SSIS package generated by the Database Maintenance Wizard. No wonder the files were piling up.

Recovery :: Log Shipping - Copying Older TRN Logs - Correct Or Not?

May 11, 2015

Setup log shipping from an Australian SQL2008R2 server to a UK SQL2012 server. With the time involved to copy the large backup file across a WAN link, we end up with around 2 days of log backups since the full backup.

- The Full Backup is restored to the UK Server to create a new database in norecovery mode.
- The first log backup file is manually copied to the UK server and restored.
- Start the Log Ship copy SQL Agent job - starts copying files prior the full backup on the Australian server. Copies 1 Log backup file and then fails.
- Manually copy the next Log backup file to the UL server.
- Start the Log Ship Restore SQL Agent job and runs successfully and restores the Log file.
- Start the Log Ship copy SQL Agent job - AGAIN it starts trying to copy files prior to the Full Backup.  IS this correct behaviour? I thought it should only copy Log files since the full backup.

Reporting Services :: Older Snapshots Showing New Report Name

Jun 12, 2015

We have a SSRS report that runs on snapshots. The report contains a textbox that displays the report name using the Global!ReportName built-in field.

Recently, we changed the RDL name to something else but this seems to have affected the snapshots too. The older snapshots (generated before the name change) are showing the updated name.

Just wondering if there is some way to say that the snapshot will show the report name based on the time it was generated (same as the ExecutionTime built-in field). Why is there a difference?
