Hi All,
I am getting following Error:
Oracle linked server in SQL server 2005 to update tables in Oracle database.
I have used OPENQuery to update tables in Oracle from a SQL Server 2005 Stored procedure.
If we run query from sql management studio for inserting or updating table of linked server then it runs fine. But if we use Begin distributed transaction then its gives error -
Server: Msg 7391, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_test, Line 105
The operation could not be performed because the OLE DB provider 'SQLOLEDB' was unable to begin a distributed transaction.
[OLE/DB provider returned message: New transaction cannot enlist in the specified transaction coordinator. ]
OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'SQLOLEDB' ITransactionJoin::JoinTransaction returned 0x8004d00a].
We are using Sql server stored procedure to run the open query syntax for updating oracle interface table.

I have a Insert statement which i am using to insert data into a remote server from my local server. I have added the remote server as a linked server in my local server but when i try to execute the statement i am getting the above mentioned error. I am using Windows Enterprise Edition 2003 and SQL Server 2000.
I have also enabled the Allow InBound and Allow OutBound in the security configuration of My Computer properties but still i am facing the same problem. Kindly let me know how to resolve this issue.

I'm having issues with a query to a view that references a view on a linked server, that in turn references a view on a third server.
Query to view on Server A --> View on Server B --> View on Server C
I can query from A to B using the linked server.
I can query from B to C.
I can query from A to C.
All servers at the same location on the same domain.
I cannot query a view on A, that references a view on B, where the view on B references a view/table on C
Each linked server configuration uses "Be made using this security context", with the user specified being 'sa'. I was hoping to get security out of the equation for debug purposes, hence the sa use.
I have tried from Query Analyzer using both windows and sql auth.
MSDTC is running on all servers as local system.
The full error returned is:
Server: Msg 7391, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
The operation could not be performed because the OLE DB provider 'SQLOLEDB' was unable to begin a distributed transaction.
OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'SQLOLEDB' ITransactionJoin::JoinTransaction returned 0x8004d00a].

Hi,
I was making a linked server connection between 2 SQL Server 2000 servers (both running on Windows 2003 Server), and I was creating an insert trigger in one of the SQL Server table to insert the same value to the other SQL table. But when I try to make an insert to the table, the following error occurred :
Server: Msg 7391, Level 16, State 1, Procedure <triggername>, Line xx
The operation could not be performed because the OLE DB provider 'SQLOLEDB' was unable to begin a distributed transaction.
[OLE/DB provider returned message: New transaction cannot enlist in the specified transaction coordinator. ]
OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'SQLOLEDB' ITransactionJoin::JoinTransaction returned 0x8004d00a].
I tried to change the trigger into a SELECT statement only and the error still occurred. But when I tried to insert a row directly to the linked server via Query Analyzer, it succeeded.
I have read KB 280106, KB 306212, and KB 329332, and I've tried SET XACT_ABORT ON statement, but none of them can solve the problem.
If there's anyone who has idea on what's wrong or has a suggestion what I should try please help.

Dear all,
I have been attempting to set up a linked server in SQL Server 2000 to point to an Oracle database (a very old Oracle database, v7!).
The linked server set up works fine. Then I created a database on the same SQL Server. Within that database I created a view which reads information from a view in the Oracle database (linked server). When I attempted to create this view in Enterprise Manager, I get the following error:
"The operation could not be performed because the OLE DB provider 'MSDAORA' was unable to begin a distributed transaction."
And so I created the view in Query Analyzer. This worked perfectly, no errors, and I can now go into Enterprise Manager and call up the view, which happily goes off to the view in the Oracle linked server and pulls back the info. BUT, when I attempt to do the same thing through an application on a different machine (using OLE Db, and a UDL to connect) the same error as above appears.
Does anyone know what this error means, and where I went wrong? Any help greatly appreciated. My view onto the linked server looks like this:
"CREATE VIEW dbo.NLPG_VIEW
AS
SELECT * from openquery(sadaslink, 'select * from NLPG_VIEW')"
Many thanks in advance for your wisdom!
P.S I wondered whether I need to check if the distributed transaction co-ordinator is running but don't know how.

Hello, I've a problem with a software developed in C# with the framework 2.0. This is the error I receive : The operation could not be performed because OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "XXX_LINKED_SERVER" was unable to begin a distributed transaction. OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "XXX_LINKED_SERVER" returned message "No transaction is active.". If I try directly to restart the process, it works fine. Is there someone who can help me ? This is the process 1. In C# --> Call of a Query : select from the linked server (db in sql 2005) and insert into a table SQL 2005 2. GetRecords does a select * from a linked server's table. Which is working fine but if I try to do an insert (into temp table) then I get the error.

I am receiving the following error when I run a stored procedure:Server: Msg 7391, Level 16, State 1, Procedure spXXXXThe SP inserts data into a local (sql 2000) table from a remote sql2000 database. The SP works fine until I add a trigger to thedestination. The contents of the trigger do not appear to matter, as Ihave tried removing everything but one line, which is just a declarestatement. Updating the table with the trigger (even the full trigger)in place does not cause an error. Running the SP without the triggeron the table does not cause the error.I have the exact same setup on another server. Both the SP and thetrigger are IDENTICAL. This setup works on one server, but not theother. I have 3 development SQL Servers A, B & C, all running SQL 2000 sp3 and Windows 2003. Servers B & C have a linked server pointing to A, and A has one pointing to B & C. The linkedservers all have RPC , RPC out enabled. I have a stored procedure called test on server A.
Create Proc test
as
Select Top 5 first_name, last_name from people
GO
--code ran on Servers B & C:
create table #tmptbl (nm varchar(100), nm2 varchar(100))
insert into #tmptbl
Exec ServerA.db1.dbo.test
When the Insert....Exec code above is ran from server B it works fine, however when I run it from Server C, I get error 7391

Both servers (B & C) appear to be configured the same, and
I have reconfigured MSDTC on all three boxes through control panel and component manager, have tried using SET xact_abort, SET implicit_transactions, registry hacks (TurnoffRPCsecurity), basically everything listed on Microsoft, and everything I've been able to find in these groups.
If anyone has any ideas, I'd like to hear them.

I have a database containing my own tables and data and I wanted tobe able to query this against an accountancy program which has an ODBCdriver. if we see provider=sqloledb in the connection string of a legacy sql server 2000/2005 system we're trying to understand better, can we conclude that ODBC is definitely not in the client picture, that possibly OLEDB is and that SQL Native isnt? Can we conclude for sure what middleware must be in use?
My limited understanding of this "middleware" space is that ODBC is old and restrictive, OLEDB is a lot more state of the art and general, and that SQL Native is more proprietary than OLEDB.
Even if we can conclude what middleware must be in use, is it generally as simple as changing a connection string and ensuring installation of the preferred middleware in upgrading to better performing middleware?

When creating a connection string in ADO (using Delphi7), I insert the provider like this:
Provider=SQLOLEDB;Data Source=.;Initial Catalog=master;Integrated Security=SSPI;User ID=sa;Password=masterkey
Now, when I try to run this on a SQL Server 2005 or SQL2005 Express database, it won't create the connection
unless I use the SQLNCLI provider.
Is there a way to force them to use the OLEDB provider?
I have MDAC2.8-SP1 installed.

the connectivity works fine...almost.
I have 2 identical sql servers one of which is linked to the other via a linked server config which for one particular query gives back the error I give in the subject of this thread:
java.sql.SQLException: Could not get the data of the row from the OLE DB provider 'SQLOLEDB'
if I run the exact same sql string in query analyser it runs with no problem.
if have similar queries also running from java which use the linked server and these do not give an error. I am at a loss as to explain why this is happening.
the query in question joins together a number of views which reference the linked server.
I have tried everything I can think of including recreating the views and linked server definition.
If all is OK in query analyser, how can it fail when called over jbdc (especially when all other db requests succeed) ?

FYI.
I am executing the dynamic query which uses another server to fetch the data.

I am having trouble logging into my sql server from an asp application using SQLOLEDB.
I am running XP, IIS5 and SQL Svr 2000 on my developement machine. I am able to log into the database using localhost/application.
When I port the code and database over to the server (Server 2003, IIS6, SQL Svr 2000), I am unable to connection using the actual url of the site.
I set the login up on the logins for the database manager along with password (using multi, not Windows authentication). Added that user to the database security logins, giving it dbo, srvr admin, etc. Like I said, works on my dev machine.
The SQLOLEDB request is Provider=SQLOLEDB;Data Source=(local);User ID=UID;Password=PWD;Initial Catalog=DBName.
I set the database up as a System DSN in ODBC, using SQL Server Authentication. The connection tests out just fine.
When I attempt to connect, I get an ADO message indicating that the user id that I supplied could not sign in to the server.
This is driving me nuts.
Does anyone out there have any ideas as to what I have missed on the server vs local developement machine?
Any and all help greatly appreciate.

We have a rather large environment and have just a couple of boxes out there that we are getting cannot begin distributed transaction on inserts and updates but works fine on selects. Inserts and updates work fine outside the begin tran / commit so it's definitely DTC
We have checked the configuration on and the source box is set to No authentication required same for destination.
We have: Verified credentials running the service, changed them, same problem. Uninstalled and re-installed MSDTC per Microsoft instructions.
Have run all the tools for checking DTC DTCPing etc and followed those procedures which typically in the past has resolved any DTC issues. Other than swapping out the offending pc for a new one we are at a loss.

A linked server is configured to a sql 2000 server and when I execute sql statement SELECT * FROM [LinkedServer].[Database].[dbo].[TableName] it gives following error message: -

OLE DB provider 'SQLOLEDB' reported an error. The provider did not give any information about the error.
OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'SQLOLEDB' IUnknown::QueryInterface returned 0x80004005: The provider did not give any information about the error.].
In case if anyone has a solution to it, please let me know.

I hope I'm in correct forum..
I'm working on simple OLE DB provider that should be usable in SQL server as a linked server. The provider should provide some support for SQL (certain SELECTs for now) and therefore I'd like the SQL server to delegate portions of query processing to the provider instead of fetching all rows and doing SELECT on its own.
Alas, I'm no OLE DB expert and my provider apparently doesn't implement enough things to actually make SQL server pass the query to it. My provider's session currently implements mandatory interfaces + couple of others (IDBCreateCommand, IDBSchemaRowset) and via provider properties, I 'claim' to have full support for SQL92. I'm testing the provider with SQL Server 2005 ('Express edition').
I'd like to know what am I missing in the implementation, or whether/how can I find out what makes SQL server decide between fetching full rowset and creating a command to let rthe query run in provider.

Hi,
I'm deploying an OLE DB provider to be used as linked server in on customer pc. The provider works ok on both machines I used to test it, one with Vista (64-bit), the other with XP (32-bit). Both machines have SQL server express 2005 SP2 (9.0.3042) installed.
Now, customer machine is again Vista (64-bit) with SQL server express 2005 SP2 (9.0.3054), and customer tested it on another Vista machine with SQL server express 2005 SP2 (9.0.3042). On both machines, following error occurs when SELECT statement is issued to the provider (though linked server creation runs smoothly):
Msg 7308, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
OLE DB provider 'XXX.XXXXX' cannot be used for distributed queries because the provider is configured to run in single-threaded apartment mode.
1) registry entry for ThreadingModel is Both
2) the provider works on my side
3) I can't seem to instantiate the provider on customer side even when I disallow provider to be inproc for SQL server, which would hint on some registration issue (maybe some leftovers on my local machines that are not present on customer side)
What is going on, again..?

I have 4 servers, 2 each for application (Dev & Prod)
DEV 1 & DEV 2 are standalone servers
Prod 1 & Prod 2 are Windows Clustered Servers.
From one application to other we do Distributed transactions. Dev 1 - Dev 2 or Dev 2 - Dev 1 can start DTC and working fine,but issue comes when Prod 1 - Prod 2 or Prod 2 - Prod 1. I get error message OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "xyz" returned message "No transaction is active.".

The operation could not be performed because OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "xyz" was unable to begin a distributed transaction.
I have tested Dev 1 - Prod 1, Dev 1 - Prod 2, Dev 2 - Prod 1, Dev 2 - Prod 2 everything is working fine only Production servers are causing issue.
I enabled all settings needed for DTC on Cluster MSDTC service but no luck.

Hi,
We have SQLSERVER 6.5 in our servers.
We r taking transaction backups in Server1 each and every 30 mins all days from 6.00 A.M. to 6.00 P.M.
We have one standby server - server2 ( as a backup server). Each and every 30 mins it will load the backups of Server1 all days from 7.00 A.M. to 8.00 P.M.
When we see the log for this......... we get the error.
Eg.;
Msg 4305, Level 16, State 1, Server USCAMSQLP001, Line 1
Specified file 'd:mssqlTransBkponyx_8_1.DMP' is out of sequence.
Current time stamp is Dec 26 2000 6:35PM while dump was from Dec 27
2000 8:05AM.
But the dumps creation is good the load job doesn't fail.
Can any one tell the reason.

Hello All,
I'm using SQL Sever 2005 express and accessing it with asp.
Here is my script of connecting database:

Conn.Open
However, everytime I connect I get the following error in my IE:
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'
[Microsoft][SQL Native Client]Client unable to establish connection due to prelogin failure
/inc/OpenCnn.asp, line 15 (whch is Conn.open)
When I check the SQL server express log file, I find this one:
2006-07-16 20:20:07.53 Logon The server was unable to load the SSL provider library needed to log in; the connection has been closed. SSL is used to encrypt either the login sequence or all communications, depending on how the administrator has configured the server. See Books Online for information on this error message: 0x6d. [CLIENT: <local machine>]
My sql native client configuration is: Force Protocol Encryption: No, Trust Server Certificate: yes.
What's possibly wrong with my script or sql server configuration?

Hi,
I am using VS2005 and Sql Server 2000 (personal edition). I am able to connect with SqlClient Provider on Local Machine (when db server and VS2005 on same machine). But I try to connect SqlServer on different machine it is not allowing me to connect. If I use SqlOledb Provider it got connected.
Please tell me how could I connect with DB server (Sql Server 2000) from remote machine.

I want to migrate DB from sybase to SQL server 2012 and i am using SSMA for it. Till yesterday it was working fine. Today when i try connecting sybase i am getting below error.
Unable to find specified provider.Error occurred while establishing connection to Sybase server. If you have 64-bit connectivity components installed on the machine, you can run 64-bit version of SSMA application whose shortcut can be found under the Programs menu. Or you can install the 32-bit connectivity libraries form Sybase product media or download it from Sybase web site.

Hi All,
I am in process of transfering data from Sybase to Sql Server using SSIS 2005
have taken a Data Flow Task in Control Flow tab
In Data flow tab, I have taken one Ole DB Source and One OLe DB Destination
For the source, I am using Sybase Adaptive Server Anywhere Provider 8.0
For Destination, I am using Sql Server 2005 database
In Ole Db Source Editor ,
For OLe Db Connection Manager, I choose Sybase Connection
For Data access mode, I choose Table or View
For Name of the table or the view, I choose a table by name Table1( it lists all the tables from Sybase database)
When i click on preview button or Columns link, I get the following Error
Error at Data Flow Task [OLE DB Source [1]]: An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E21.
Error at Data Flow Task [OLE DB Source [1]]: Unable to retrieve column information from the data source. Make sure your target table in the database is available.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Exception from HRESULT: 0xC020204A (Microsoft.SqlServer.DTSPipelineWrap)
Please help me out.

I am able to work fine in my development environment, however when I deploy the application to a clean machine, I get the dreaded "Unable to find the requested .Net Framework Data Provider" error.
I have included the eight dlls required by the Sql Server 2005 CE engine (per the documentation) in the deployment project.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi everybody,
I have designed a DTS package which will migrate a view from Sqlserver 2000 to Oracle.My package is using Microsoft OLEDB provider for Oracle driver for connecting to oracle.Im able to execute this package on the my system ie on the system where sqlclient is installed(Oracle client is also installed on my machine) .But when im doing it on the server im not able to do it.The Connection to Oracle Fails.
I wanted to know in order to connect to Oracle from the server,is it necessary that Oracle has to be installed on the server?.If yes, is it enough if i install oracle client on the server or Oracle Server version has to be installed on Server.
Please suggest me wht should i do know?

I've found some strange behavior of SQLOLEDB provider. When I set "Preserve on Abort" on true and delete some row in transaction, I cannot see this row after transaction rollback. Is this correct?

I am trying to execute a query on a table which is in 6.5 from 7.0
I get the following error...

Can I use the "SQLOLEDB" provider to connect to a SQL Native Client? Follow-up question: does the "SQLOLEDB" provider use the same TDS transport protocol as the SQL Native Client provider?
