I am using similiar query to above to create a excel file, however for this to work, I need to create a template file which has the same columns as the authors table. Is there a way to NOT to define template columns , as I some times will not know which columns will be available... as teh query is dynamic....

I'm writing an SSIS package to run a series of select statements and save the results of each to a sheet in an Excel file. An indirect configuration file with these entries is used:
Package.Variables[User::ExcelTemplateFilePath].Properties[Value]
Package.Connections[AcculoanDatabase].Properties[ConnectionString]
Package.Connections[ExcelReportFile].Properties[ExcelFilePath]
At the start of the package this setup will happen.
1) copy ExcelTemplateFilePath to ExcelFilePath
2) Set User::ReportFilePath to ExcelFilePath
Creating a script task to do this is not a problem. However the task fails on validation of the tasks that write the select results to the Excel file sheets. I'm thinking the validation fails because the Excel file is not copied before the validation is done.
How can I arrange for the setup script to run and copy the Excel file before validation?
Is there is a better way or am I just doing this wrong?

I'm trying to query an excel file and I get a mistake. The query is as follows:
SELECT * FROM OPENROWSET('Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0',
'Excel 8.0;Database=C:ExcelFile.xls', 'select * from Sheet1')
and I get the following error message:

[OLE/DB provider returned message: The Microsoft Jet database engine could not find the object 'Book1'. Make sure the object exists and that you spell its name and the path name correctly.]

I am using SQLServer 2005 SP2. I enabled the Ad Hoc Distributed Queries and DisallowAdhocAccess registry option is explicitly set to 0. Query is working fine when I remote desk to the server and execute when I run same query from my workstation I am getting following error
Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
The OLE DB provider "Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0" for linked server "(null)" reported an error. The provider did not give any information about the error.

Hi, recently I encountered the following problem:
I tried to execute a stored procedure on the newly installed SQL 2005 Server (now on x64 Win Server 2003) which imports an Excel-File into a DB table.
We use OPENROWSET to access the Excel data. But I recognized this is dependent on Jet OLE DB which seems is not available for x64 windows.
Is there another way to import excel data using a stored procedure.

I have a test server (TEST1) running SQL 2012 and Windows 2012R2. One of the developers wants to use OPENROWSET to read in data from an Excel 2010 file (an xlsx file).
I have loaded the Microsoft Drivers in "AccessDatabaseEngine_64.exe" and enabled the Ad Hoc Distributed Queries option in SQL.
This is the sample code we are working with:

Hi,
I am creating an SSIS package witha a Dataflow task, which reads from an Excel source and then uses script component to dumpt the data to multiple tables in Sql Server database
I need to some how make my Excel source dynamic, that is my excel template which i would be using to map the excel columns to script component's input columns would be dynamic..
In other words, I should be able to define the Excel Source, Column Mapping Information, Precedence constraint to the Script component dynamically
Please suggest how could i accomplish this

I'm stuck on this one. I've got this package working for dynamic output based on an XML statement (yea!!!). It's actually a really simple package that has a few execute sql tasks and an xml task. I pass in a sql statement and get out raw xml that I use in the xml task and I use an XSL file to combine the xml into an excel document. My next obstacle is how to handle multiple worksheets in the same spreadsheet. Given the following code, xsl and xml, what changes would I need to make excel recognize that there is more than one worksheet?

Hi,
I have a package that writes information to a table in sql server 2005. I created an Excel file called ErrorLog.xls with column headers:
AccountNumber and Date.
I have a Data Flow Task that inserts from SQL into the Excel File.
This works fine the first time.
However, I then want to rename the Excel File, delete and recreate it with just the column headers AccountNumber and Date.
I need the Excel file to be empty every time the package runs.
I am able to create an Excel File using Script Component but how can I also add the headers?

Exporting a report to Excel has a lot of issues with appearance. As a result, I created an Excel template that I would like to use when the user selects to export the report to Excel, using the reportViewer toolbar. I haven't found any documentation thus far on how to accomplish this. Does anyone know whether this is possible with SSRS and if so can you please provide information as to how it is accomplished. Hi Anyone I am new member and happy to be here.
I am having trouble exporting the correct data from sql server to an excel spreadsheet using 'OPENROWSET'
The problem is that although the data from my sql table is say :
'a',1,2,3 , the excel spreadsheet sees the data as :
'a','1,'2,'3 ..1,2,3 are of course numbers NOT text, its just that the driver has put a single appostraphy before the number !
I know there is a bug with the ISAM driver but has anyone managed to solve this or has anyone have any alternatives ?

I'm doing an openrowset query on an excel sheet. (Using SQL Server 2005) Everything works great, except that I have one column that has both numeric and text data in the spreadsheet. The query returns that column as datatype varchar but puts nulls in the rows that have numeric data in the spreadsheet.
Any suggestions?
I run:

I am exporting the data from database to an excel template that will have 100+ columns and approx 4000 rows of data. Then the business user will make changes to some columns without modifying primary key columns and will send back to us where we will update the same to database.
In order to this am using an excel template by protecting the primary key columns with a password protection.
At template level am fine and whenever am trying to modify any primary key column it's not allowing and am totally good there. But when I use that excel template as a destination to load data from SSIS, all the protected columns are no longer protected and i could able to make changes.

I am trying to create several Excel sheets using SQL 2000 views like so:
Select * INTO [Excel 8.0;Database="C:spreadSheetsaNew.xls"] FROM [aView].
When I try and execute this in my app I get the following - Specified owner
name 'Excel 8.0;Database=c:spreadSheetsaNew.xls' either does not exist or
you do not have permission to use it.
If I use the above Select statement with an OLEDB connection it works.
I am using Imports System.Data.SqlClient, instantiating a new SQlConnection
object, opening the connection, etc..

Data in excel file is two columns, Row_Data, Row_ID
I am trying to split rows and store them in columns in a table.
Row_ID column is simply row identifier column

Hi All,
I'm working on a web application where the user needs to be able to create and name new databases that are identical in structure to other existing databases (that is, all tables, stored procedures, functions, indexes, etc.). This is so that they can create a new database for each client and need to be able to do this through the web application. Having hunted around a fair bit, I've established that SMO is capable of doing pretty much everything that I want. The only problem is that everything I do seems to be based on the actual SQL Server and associated databases rather than the ones I have created in the App_Data folder.
The relevant code (so far) is:Dim sqlServer As New Server()

Does anyone know where I can download a C# CLI Assembly template?
In VS 2005 there are no defaults to create a C# SQL Assembly like the sample HelloWorld. Rather than modifying the Hello World, I'd like to get an original template for creating a new project just like the templates to create a new Windows project.

Same with OpenDataSource. SQL 2000, logged in as non-SA.Getting message:Ad hoc access to OLE DB provider 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' has beendenied. You must access this provider through a linked server.Can run with SQLOLEDB with connection string to same server(obviously), but when trying to access an Excel file, get the messageabove.It appears that the file name given in the connection string to Excelis with respect to the SQL server, so I have used UNC names to thefile. Nothing.Want to avoid DTS when it's a table that I need and can't use a linkedserver because it's always a one time thing.Any tips appreciated!

Haven't been able to find much information on using openrowset with excel 2007 xlsx files. I've tried the following with no success so far.
SELECT * FROM OPENROWSET('Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0',
'Excel 12.0 Xml;Database=\serverfolderfile.xlsx;HDR=No;IMEX=1',

And excel version to micorsoft excel 2007. When open the file it created,it promotes the format is not correct. How to solve this?

i have sql server 2005 dev and bids installed. i want to create a dtsx package, but when i go to File>new>project the template to create an interogation services package is not there. the template for Olap projects is missing also. it used to be present before i upgraded my system to Vista. Could this be a vista issue or do i just need to install a patch or something simple like that?

Hi,
Our company wants to allow our customers the ability to import employee data. Each customer's employee data changes depending on things like organisation structure etc. so the format of the data to be imported needs to change. We can do a lot of this with dynamic SQL, but are looking at moving it to SSIS as we think it will save us a lot of pain later on and for other features in SSIS.
We're stuck at a fairly early part of the process as we don't know how to dynamically import our spreadsheet. So far our best idea is to connect to the excel connection as the only step in the data task and then to use a script task on the control task, write code to connect to the excel source (set the excel source to not treat the first row as headers so we can do a 'select top 1 *...' ) then create a dynamic sql command to create the table.
Once this is done we would then have another data task that actually puts the data into the newly created table. This all sounds very difficult though. What are the options for doing what we want to do... have a feeling that we're missing something basic.
Any help appreciated,

I've created a stored procedure that accepts two arguments: the name of an Excel workbook (@workbookBillRun), and the name of the first worksheet found in that workbook (@worksheetBillRun).
Through dynamic SQL, I'm able to construct a statement that pulls out data.

The workbook name will always be known: when the user uploads the file, I change the name to match a certain pattern. Example: 2011-08 AUG.xlsx
However, I won't always know the worksheet name. The workbook *should* contain just one worksheet; and the worksheet *should* be named identically to the workbook (2011-08 AUG), but it may not be named as such. And if I pass an invalid worksheet name, the code above will fail.
I've created error handling to alert the user of an incorrectly named sheet. However, I was curious whether I could extract the name of the first worksheet in the workbook from within T-SQL.
