OSQL Output File Garbage

Everybody,I've been doing a lot of on-line research and cannot findany reference to the exact problem I'm having.Let me preface this question with the fact that I'm comingfrom an Oracle background so my approach may not be the bestway to tackle this. However, from the research I have donethis approach seems reasonable. Also, I know about theundocumented procedure sp_MSforeachtable. That can give me aresult similar to what I'm looking for but the format of theoutput is not what I need.Now the problem. I'm trying to write a reusable script to giveme a list of all the tables in a database that have 1 or more rows.My approach is to a BAT file (see script 1 below) that calls OSQLtwice, once to call a SQL script (see script 2 below) that uses theInformation_Schema views to generate the SELECT COUNT(*) statementsand fill in all the tables names in the database, write this to atemporary output file and the second OSQL command to read thetemporary output file and generate me the results formatted theway I need.The result of the first OSQL run is correct EXCEPT for 1> 2> 3> 4> 5>6> 7> 8> 9> 10> 11> 12> 13> garbage at the beginning of the file.Because of this garbage the 2nd OSQL command blows up! Anyone haveany idea what is generating this garbage?If I manually edit out the garbage and then just run the 2nd OSQLcommandI get similar garbage in the final result file (see 2nd result filebelow).In Query Analyzer, when I run the GET_TABLE_COUNT.SQL Script manuallythen take its output and copy and paste it to a new query window andrun that it works OK except for generating lots of blank lines wherethe result of the tables that have zero rows are. OSQL Batch File Problem

I have a scheduled task that runs a batch file in windows 2003 server which
is running SQL Server 2000 Enterprise.

The batch file contains the line:

OSQL -i myscript.sql -Umyuser -Pmypassword -Slocalhost -o mytrans.log

the 'myscript.sql' file updates a table with another table of the exact
number of rows.

When the scheduled task runs, the 'mytrans.log' file shows 0 rows were
affected.

If I run this myself from the command line, 22,000 rows are affected which
is correct.

I am guessing there is some sort of permission/authentication issue here. I
am sending the right username/password for SQL and for windows to run the
task.

Any idea what I could do to fix this?

And I receive a mail , if the server agent is running.

Running A SQL File From OSQL Command Line Utility

Hi,I have dumped a very large database from mysql (using mysqldump program)as a raw sql file. The reason was, convert this database to a MSSQLdatabase. Since mysqldump creates the file as raw sql file with thedatabase-table structures and the data in it, I thought using OSQL commandline utilities should work to out this whole database in MSSQL server.I have run this command from command line:osql -u sa -i mysqldump.sqlIt is going since yesterday. It has been almost 36 hours that it'sstarted. And in the mssql server, I see no database created yet. On thescreen of the command line, I see bunch of numbers are going in order. Iassume they are row numbers of the tables processed. But, if it is doing it,then where is it saving all this data ? I have checked the tempdb, pub db,other dbs, and I see no tables related to the database I am inserting. Willit populate it at the and of the job ? i am creating a log file, and at 1 point I record how many rows are deleted after an update process.. I want to also record which productID are actually deleted... how would I write that?!

Basically I need know how I would get the list, and I am using PRINT command... I need to somehow write a loop that works through the list and PRINTS to the file....

Print Barcodes With The Active X Print Control

We are having problems printing Reports (when printing by clicking on the AcitiveX print control), where the font for the fields are set to "C39HrP24DhTt" (barcode).

While viewing the report it displays as Barcodes but while printing, the Barcode does not get printed, but the string gets printed.

Environment: SSRS 2005

Using the ReportViewer Control in a .Net 2.0 Web App to render the reports.

BarCodes print fine in the following situations:

1. When the Report is exported to Excel and when printed from there

2. When you click on the print button on Internet Explorer

3. When saving as html (from view source) and opening that html document and printing.

BarCodes do NOT get printed in the following situation:

1. When printing by clicking on the "Print" (Active X Control) icon. Even the "Print Preview" does not show the Barcode.

Reporting Services From WebBrowser Control - Print = Unable To Load Client Print Control

UPDATE #2: When it said "Do you want to install Microsoft SQL Server" I said "yes" and that caused it to work. I exited and re-ran and now the print runs w/o the "install SQL Server" (If the prompt had said "Do you want to install the print dialog" we wouldn't be having this discussion...) 





UPDATE: After posting this i discovered that the same thing occurs when attempting to print the report direct from IE6: First a dialog pops up "Do you want to install this software?" Name: Microsoft SQL Server. When I click "Don't Install" I get the dialog "unable to load client print control." Since this happens direct from IE6 I suspect it's browser settings. I'll resume tomorrow and post a followup.







My WinForm C# app integrates Reporting Services by calling them from WebBrowser controls. The problem is attempts to print cause a dialog: "unable to load client print control."

I've read prior posts that say "enable Active-X in your browser" - I don't know how to do that from a WebBrowser control.



Any ideas how to support Reporting Services "Print" from within a WebBrowser control?

Hi all.

My first post here.

I want to distriburte a msde database. When doing so, I also want to make a new login, make a user, make the user the dbowner of the database i installed.

I found the Stored procedures I need to use, and I have tested that it works using OSQL.

What I want to do now is to make this automatic. After installing the database the OSQL commands should be executed and no user interference should be necessary. How can that be done ?

Hello,

I have several sql scripts to be executed on a set schedule, with the output directed to a text file. If the schedule triggers this process daily, is it possible to append each days output to the same output file? I've researched the osql switches and various online sources...nothing really covers this.

This is done (relatively) easily with .vbs, but so far it looks tougher with TSQL.

i'm trying to execute some scripts created by the express studio script wizard. i can connect with the studio, the website (asp worker) but i can't create the right cmdline for osql ..... this is my osql line ......

While converting to excel sheet english datas are comming but the datas in chinese is comming like (?) this. Does any body has any idea to solve this problem. is there any way to set font in osql utility.

the help document said that

"osql -b will specifies that OSQL exits and returns a DOS ERRORLEVEL value when an error occurs. The value returned to the DOS ERRORLEVEL variable is 1 when the SQL Server error message has a severity of 10 or greater; otherwise, the value returned is 0."

my question is : how can I get the DOS ERRORLEVEL.

example:

C:>isql -E -b -Q"backup log pubs to disk='C:adsfasd.tmp'"

the result:

Msg 4208, Level 16, State 0, Server YANG, Line 1

Running A Job Via Osql??

Is there any advantage of running an SQL statement through osql with the database information over using dynamic sql?

Example:

The purpose of all this is...I need to pass a parameter for the DB that I will be inserting into...here we create a new db with a specific name based on quarterly data. We collect, crunch, validate data and ship it. Then when it's old we archive it then eventually delete it.

I have written a script that makes this quarterly build less painful. In fact I won't have to do it! :)...our Sr. Data Analysts will do it now. In order for this beautiful thing (*in my mind anyway*) to work they need to set parameters for which data to pull and where to put it. The DB is scripted into existance and the data is moved into it. So therefore they need to enter the Qtr,Yr and dbname. I have done DSQL before on smaller scripts and I am just curious if the expert pool here can shed some light on this approach. The script will most likely be run in a DTS SQL Task.

I created a sql script that transfers data from my test system to production adn vice versa. I would like to use OSQL and be able to pass parameters to the SQL script.

Example: param 1 = test; param 2 = production.

Error With Osql

Locally executing osql to create db files on a remote Webserver, I get this error:

Server user 'Robse_Testlogin' is not a valid user in database 'msdb'.

(The above is german and translates into "Message 916, Level 14,..., Row 12")

This is the command with parameters:

osql -S servername -U Robse_Testlogin -P password -i c:Storestoredb.sql"


Up to that line, everything works fine...what could be wrong?

Osql Formatting

At first I'd like to justify myself - I'm rather a greenhorn in MS SQL ;-)
What I'd like to do is to create a very simple spool file from my database.
I'd like to do this using OSQL tool and it's very important for me to have the spool file in the same format as it was earlier when I used Oracle and simple spool command.
And it's almost the same, but white spaces...
There's always one white space at the begining of each line and at least one at the and of each line.
I've been trying many OSQL switches and ltrim(..) / rtrim(..) functions but the problem still exists...
The spool file is rather big - around 300MB so it's not good idea to use SED (for example) to remove white spaces.
So my question:
IS IT POSSIBLE TO REMOVE WHITE SPACES COMPLETELY USING OSQL SPOOL?
