The fun thing is that I'm running into a circumstance where one SQL statement that works in Visual Studio accessing the same database works, but then I try to use the same statement in Microsoft Query (running to Excel) and it refuses to admit its a valid statement.
The SQL statement I'm using is this.
SELECT MLNumber, StreetNumber, StreetName, StreetDirection, ListingOfficeMLSID, Status, Bedrooms, Bathrooms, City
FROM "data: Property:RESI"
WHERE (ListingOfficeMLSID = '550000020' OR
ListingOfficeMLSID = '550001760') AND (MLNumber > 1) AND (City = "Boiling Spring Lakes")
This works fine inside of VS 2005.
The same statement used within Microsoft Query returns this error message.
SQL SYNTAX ERROR - Unexpected char: '?'
Working with the people that work with that database regularly, they say that I need to write a METADATA-LOOKUPTYPE call that should tell me how the City name 'Boiling Spring Lakes' is actually formatted.
I, of course, have no clue how to do that. But my thought is, if it works in VS2005 and returns a valid result, why does the same SQL statement return an error message through Excel?
I was in the process of installing Microsof Project 2003 when we suddenly decided to move up to Microsoft Project 2007. We removed SharePoint 3.0 and SQL Server 2K so all that is installed on the box is Windows Server 2003 with all Service Packs. During the install of SQL Server 2005, here is the error message we get.
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup
SQL Server Setup failed to execute a command for server configuration. The error was [Microsoft][SQL Native Client][SQL Server]Cannot alter the login €˜sa€™, because it does not exist or you do not have permission.. Refer to the server error logs and Setup logs for detailed error information.
I have a Data Flow task which uses an XML File Source with six parellell Outputs, each going firstly to a Data Conversion Task, then the results of each end in a SQL Server Destination Object. (All using the SQL Native Client)
To eplain this further, the Xml file contains 6 different types of elements, the Dataflow splits out each type of element and processes them into different tables. The Data Transformation object exists only because the XML fields are Uni-code and the table fields are VarChar not nVarChar.
Initially using this setup I found that the Connection would timeout using the SQL Native Client so I changed the Timout on the Destination Objects to 0. This fixed the problem to some degree, however at present I can run the Pakage using the Visual Studio enviroment and everything works fine, no problem. When I run the Dtsx file using the SQL Server Agent, I end up getting the error below...

I understand that this error is somewhat of a 'catch all' and that the way the Native SQL Server Connection object works makes Error Capturing difficult. I have tried a few things which I will list as I'm sure they will be suggested...
I have played around with the 'MaxInsertCommitSize' property of the SQL Server Destination Objects to no avail (IE, changing to 50000, 10000, 1000 all of which resulted in the same problem)
I am running the ssis pakage from the server which is the destination
As mentioned above the Timeout on the SQL Server Destination Objects is set to 0
What I have already mentioned and still don'tt quite understand is that I can run the job successfully from the Visual Studio enviroment but as a job run off the SQL Server it fails...

FROM Results AS T1 JOIN Results AS T2 ON T1.lnumber = T2.lnumber
WHERE T2.test_desc = 'Shipping' AND T1.test_desc = 'Receiving'
I have an error message that says:
Msg 8120, Level 16, State 1, Line 3 Column 'Results.lnumber' is invalid in the select list because it is not contained in either an aggregate function or the GROUP BY clause.
If I take this line out: COUNT(DISTINCT T2.test_desc) AS Number_of_Process The query runs ok.
Also if I run [COUNT(DISTINCT T2.test_desc) AS Number_of_Process] in:
SELECT COUNT(DISTINCT T2.test_desc) AS Number_of_Process, T2.lnumber AS Lot_number FROM Results AS T1 JOIN Results AS T2 ON T1.lnumber = T2.lnumber GROUP BY T2.lnumber
It will also give me result. Please help.... Thanks for your time
Can anyone give a quick description of the meaning of this message andwhat needs to be done to get a connection.I'm running DBArtisan with SQLServer 2000 client SP4 installed.I also get the same message with MS Enterprise Manager so this iscoming out of the actual ODBC connection attempt. Thanks in advance!
I execute a script that someone else wrote and I get Query Completed with Errors but there is not an error message. If I highlight and execute parts of the script, it completes successfully.
I wrote a data mining plug-in algorithm in SSAS and now I am trying to view the lift chart in Management Studio. The studio gives the following error:
"The Data Mining Query builder control cannot be initialized due to the following problem: Deserialization failed: Multiple definition of element 'Column12' causes the content model to become ambigious. A content model must be formed such that during validation of an element information item sequence, the particle contained directly, indirectly or implicitly therein with which to attempt to validate each item in the sequence in turn can be uniquely determined without examining the content or attributes of that item, and without any information about the items in the remainder of the sequence."
I really do not understand what i did wrong. Can anybody help me?
I have an error message I was wondering if anyone else has seen and resolved. When I open excel and click on the query wizard on the Data Mining Ribbon, I get an error message that says "Input String not in Correct Format"
After I close this dialog box the 'Welcome to Query .... ' wizard will open, but when I select the Advance button my process aborts due to the input string error.
I have only ran association models on the computer.
The Manage Models and Browse buttons work fine.
The error came up on Friday, but it wasn't there on Thursday. There were no changes done to the machine (no installation of new software).
I have tried reinstalling the add-in.
Thank you all for your help,
Davy
I have pasted the SQL syntax below that I get from the error dialog box after the query wizard closes.
See the end of this message for details on invoking just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

I have the same question and error that Chopaka is getting:
"I have a SQL 2005 job that calls a stored proc. The job step returns the message "Query timeout expired....Message 7412...The step succeeded." The proc never actually ever did anything due to the query timeout, and the job continued on to other steps. I'm going to address the timeout issue eventually, but first I'd like to trap the timeout problem and force the job to end.
It appears that the query timeout isn't really an error, just a message. I've tried TRY-CATCH in the SP but the situation isn't caught, again probably due to the interpretation that it isn't an error."
I have reduced the "Remote Query time out" to 1 sec, in order to catch the error and to prevent the job from running, but the error is not caught.
Is there a way to catch this in the SQL or in the job step to prevent the job from continuing?

I am trying to run a query on my sql server and get the following error message: Â "An error occurred while executing batch. Error message is: The directory name is invalid." Â how do I fix?
I have been using the ServiceBrokerInterface example for a project of mine and so far it has been very successfull. However , I recently attempted to use it to send a large-ish message (32K xml file from MS Word) to SQL. The message is recieved but the Body member of the message is null when I try to retrieve the data from within my stored procedure CLR method.
The only differences I can see between the message that does not work and those that do are that the one that doesn't is large and it is XML data that I read from a .xml file produced by MS Word as opposed to internally generated strings in the other working messages.
Does anybody have any suggestions as to why the body of the message is not being sent in this case? Is there something about the example code that precludes sending this type of message?
This is the code that sends the message (extracted from Conversation.cs in ServiceBrokerExample)
I am running dts in Sql Server 2005 management studio from Management, Legacy and data Transformation Services.
Once the dts has run, I get this error message "Error Source : Microsoft Data Transformation Services (DTS) Package Error Description : Error accessing Windows Event Log."
I have an File System Task that copies a file from one directory ot another. When I hard code the target directory (c:dirfile.txt) it works fine. When I change it to a virtual directory (\serverdirfile.txt) I get a security error:
[File System Task] Error: An error occurred with the following error message: "Access to the path '\gracehbtest oS2TMM_Live_Title_000002.xml' is denied.".
I'm trying to use an XML Task to do a simple XSLT operation, but it fails with this error message:
[XML Task] Error: An error occurred with the following error message: "There are multiple root elements. Line 5, position 2.".
The source XML file validates fine and I've successfully used it as the XML Source in a data flow task to load some SQL Server tables. It has very few line breaks, so the first 5 lines are pretty long: almost 4000 characters, including 34 start-tags, 19 end-tags, and 2 empty element tags. Here's the very beginning of it:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <ESDU releaselevel="2006-02" createdate="26 May 2006"><package id="1" title="_standard" shorttitle="_standard" filename="pk_stan" supplementdate="01/05/2005" supplementlevel="1"><abstract><![CDATA[This package contains the standard ESDU Series.]]></abstract>
There is only 1 ESDU root element and only 1 package element.
Of course, the XSLT stylesheet is also an XML document in its own right. I specify it directly in the XML Task:
On localhost this application works fine but when I put on remote server. I am getting following errors. For both localhost and server, I am using same remote sql 2000. I will appreciate any help.

Over the last 2 months I have gotten this SQL Server error (twice). All existing processes will continue to work, however no new processes can be created and users cannot connect to the server. This is the exact text of the message in the SQL Server error log.

Hi, I have developed a website in asp.net 2. I have tester it and it is working fine on my computer but when I have uploaded it to my server I'm getting an error message when the user signup. The error occurs when I'm setting the user role to 'members'.
Error line > Roles.AddUserToRole(user.UserName, "members")
The strage thig is that it is working on my computer but not on the server. My home computer and the server are running the same software versions and the website database is the same as well.
To double check that my code is not generating the error I have lonched 'SQL Query Analizer' and executed the folowing code on my database: NOTE: In my database I have create the user “teeluk12 and a role “members

I'm not sure if this is the correct group for this messages, but here it is anyway.
I have a job that has 3 steps to, periodicly the job errors out on Step 1. Following is the message (from Job History).

Getting a trouble call for yet another program someone else did...
A DTS package runs every time a Coldfusion page is called. The call is now making IE crawl to a halt and creating an unending memory leak. I'm told that calling a DTS package from a page itself is a bad idea, and I'm not one to disagree, but the main problem here seems to be that the number of rows being returned is far greater than what it should be (a few thousand should be returned at most, I'm getting over 130,000 records).
Looking at the data that's being compared (corporate vs. local) it appears that the problem stems from the local data having an extra 0 on the front of numbers in one column. This means that the IDs created from the various columns won't match up. (I should note that all columns discussed here are of type varchar.) Here's the part of the DTS package giving me trouble:
A.REG_NR, A.DIS_NR, A.PKG_CTR_NR, A.BDG_NR, A.CTY_NA, A.COY_NA, A.PSL_CD, A.ST_CD, A.ST_NA, A.CNY_CD, A.PFR_CTY_NA, A.IN_BDG_LOC_NR FROM TABLE1 A UNION ALL SELECT 'LOCAL' as TABLE2,
B.REG_NR, B.DIS_NR, B.PKG_CTR_NR, B.BDG_NR, B.CTY_NA, B.COY_NA, B.PSL_CD, B.ST_CD, B.ST_NA, B.CNY_CD, B.PFR_CTY_NA, B.IN_BDG_LOC_NR FROM TABLE2 B ) tmp GROUP BY REG_NR, DIS_NR, PKG_CTR_NR, BDG_NR, CTY_NA, COY_NA, PSL_CD, ST_CD, ST_NA, CNY_CD, PFR_CTY_NA, IN_BDG_LOC_NR HAVING COUNT(*) = 1 ORDER BY PSL_CD
SELECT LTRIM(RTRIM(REG_NR)) + LTRIM(RTRIM(COY_NA)) + LTRIM(RTRIM(DIS_NR)) + LTRIM(RTRIM(PKG_CTR_NR)) + LTRIM(RTRIM(BDG_NR)) + LTRIM(RTRIM(PSL_CD)) + LTRIM(RTRIM(CTY_NA)) + LTRIM(RTRIM(IN_BDG_LOC_NR)) + LTRIM(RTRIM(PFR_CTY_NA)) AS ID, MIN(TABLE1) AS Version, REG_NR, DIS_NR, PKG_CTR_NR, BDG_NR, CTY_NA, COY_NA, PSL_CD, ST_CD, ST_NA, CNY_CD, PFR_CTY_NA, IN_BDG_LOC_NR FROM( SELECT 'Corporate' AS TABLE1, A.REG_NR, A.DIS_NR, A.PKG_CTR_NR, A.BDG_NR, A.CTY_NA, A.COY_NA, A.PSL_CD, A.ST_CD, A.ST_NA, A.CNY_CD, A.PFR_CTY_NA, A.IN_BDG_LOC_NR FROM TABLE1 A UNION ALL SELECT 'LOCAL' AS TABLE2, B.REG_NR, B.DIS_NR, B.PKG_CTR_NR, B.BDG_NR, B.CTY_NA, B.COY_NA, B.PSL_CD, B.ST_CD, B.ST_NA, B.CNY_CD, B.PFR_CTY_NA, B.IN_BDG_LOC_NR FROM TABLE2 B) tmpGROUP BY REG_NR, DIS_NR, PKG_CTR_NR, BDG_NR, CTY_NA, COY_NA, PSL_CD, ST_CD, ST_NA, CNY_CD, PFR_CTY_NA, IN_BDG_LOC_NRHAVING COUNT(*) = 1ORDER BY PSL_CD
Since it was just one extra 0 (in the local table), I thought I could add a 0 to the beginning of the string in the first table:
sql Code:
Original - sql Code
SELECT 'Corporate' as TABLE1,
A.REG_NR, A.DIS_NR, A.PKG_CTR_NR, '0'+A.BDG_NR, A.CTY_NA, A.COY_NA, A.PSL_CD, A.ST_CD, A.ST_NA, A.CNY_CD, A.PFR_CTY_NA, A.IN_BDG_LOC_NR FROM TABLE1 A
SELECT 'Corporate' AS TABLE1, A.REG_NR, A.DIS_NR, A.PKG_CTR_NR, '0'+A.BDG_NR, A.CTY_NA, A.COY_NA, A.PSL_CD, A.ST_CD, A.ST_NA, A.CNY_CD, A.PFR_CTY_NA, A.IN_BDG_LOC_NR FROM TABLE1 A
However, this keeps giving me the error 'no column specified for column 5 of tmp'. Unsure how to fix that, I try to instead trim the local database to four numbers:
sql Code:
Original - sql Code
SELECT 'LOCAL' as TABLE2,
B.REG_NR, B.DIS_NR, B.PKG_CTR_NR, RIGHT(B.BDG_NR,4), B.CTY_NA, B.COY_NA, B.PSL_CD, B.ST_CD, B.ST_NA, B.CNY_CD, B.PFR_CTY_NA, B.IN_BDG_LOC_NR FROM TABLE2 B
SELECT 'LOCAL' AS TABLE2, B.REG_NR, B.DIS_NR, B.PKG_CTR_NR, RIGHT(B.BDG_NR,4), B.CTY_NA, B.COY_NA, B.PSL_CD, B.ST_CD, B.ST_NA, B.CNY_CD, B.PFR_CTY_NA, B.IN_BDG_LOC_NR FROM TABLE2 B
This works, and I am only getting about 10,000 rows (perhaps not quite right, but better than before). The two columns now line up. However, this has an unintended (and really crazy) sideffect: The IN_BDG_LOC_NR column (and thus part of the ID) is now completely empty for the corporate data, and 00 for the local data (both were originally a two digit number that was not 00).
I have absolutely no idea what is causing this, and google isn't helping. Is there a way to make the first idea I had work? If so, I'd prefer to use that. If not, I would appreciate thoughts on making the second idea work.
