Oledb Stored Procedure Rowset Binding
Jul 23, 2005
I have a strange problem with an OleDB call to a stored procedure that
returns a rowset.
Only the first time I execute the query, after I restart SqlServer, my
program crashes because
the rowset is empty. All next calls (after restarting my program, of
course) run successfully.
The context is:
1) if I do not bind the output rowset, my program doesn't crash
2) If I run the call without the binding and then I run the call with
the binding, it doesn't crash
3) It is not the first query I do in my session
4) the call crashes only if in the SP there are some inserts: it is a
well known problem with OleDB, but in many
other cases I have fixed it setting NOCOUNT to ON

Hi all,
I have some problem about bind field from stored procedure to report.
Now I have dataset that come form stored procedure. In Dataset Dialog, "Fields" tab, I add Fieldname like fieldname in stored procedure. And "Parameters" tab, I add parameters those are neccessary for my stored procedure.
I test on data tab view. When I click "!" to run, then there is input dialog parameter.
I filled it, then the result is ok.
But when I build project, I noticed warning message....
[rsMissingFieldInDataSet] The data set €˜MyDataSet€™ contains a definition for the Field €˜MyField€™. This field is missing from the returned result set from the data source. c:.....visual studio 2005projects

After I build my project, I run the report, each textbox that binded field, display empty value.
What happen with my report? And how can I solve this problem?
Thank you very much.

Hi all;
How can I show the Name & Age of the selected student's ID in the appropriate TextBox(s) (txtName & txtAge)?
BTW:
My "ShowStudent" stored procedure:
ALTER PROCEDURE ShowStudent
@ID int
AS
SELECT ID, Name, Age FROM Student WHERE ID=@ID
RETURN
And this is the code for "Show" button:
' Which SP? Connection?
Dim cmdSelect As New SqlCommand("ShowStudent", con)
cmdSelect.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure
'-----[ Spacifay SP parameters ]-----
'ID
cmdSelect.Parameters.Add("@ID", SqlDbType.Int, 4)
cmdSelect.Parameters("@ID").Value = CType(txtID.Text, Integer)
'Open Connection
con.Open()
'-----[ Execute the select command ]-----
cmdSelect.ExecuteReader()
'----------------------------------------
'Close connection
con.Close()
'========================================================
End Sub
So, do I have to use an OUTPUT parameter in the stored procedure? If Yes, How to get its (the parameter) value and bind it to the appropriate TextBox?
Hope my question is clear!!
Thanks in advanced!

Hi there everyone. I have a stored procedure called “PagingTable that I use for performing searches and specifying how many results to show per ‘page’ and which page I want to see. This allows me to do my paging on the server-side (the database tier) and only the results that actually get shown on the webpage fly across from my database server to my web server. The code might look something like this:
strSQL = "EXECUTE PagingTable " & _
"@ItemsPerPage = 10, " & _
"@CurrentPage = " & CStr(intCurrentPage) & ", " & _
"@TableName = 'Products', " & _
"@UniqueColumn = 'ItemNumber', " & _
"@Columns = 'ItemNumber, Description, ListPrice, QtyOnHand', " & _
"@WhereClause = '" & strSQLWhere & "'"
The problem is the stored procedure actually returns two result sets. The first result set contains information regarding the total number of results founds, the number of pages and the current page. The second result set contains the data to be shown (the columns specified). In ‘classic’ ASP I did this like this.
'Open the recordset
rsItems.Open strSQL, conn, 0, 1
'Get the values required for drawing the paging table
intCurrentPage = rsItems.Fields("CurrentPage").Value
intTotalPages = rsItems.Fields("TotalPages").Value
intTotalRows = rsItems.Fields("TotalRows").Value
'Advance to the next recordset
Set rsItems = rsItems.NextRecordset
I am trying to do this now in ASP.NET 2.0 using the datasource control and the repeater control. Any idea how I can accomplish two things:
A) Bind the repeater control to the second resultset
B) Build a “pager of some sort using the values from the first resultset

My task is to add income by taking few variables from webpage. I had take User ID(From database), Field value by selecting it from DropDownBox( Which value is once again taken from database), Income Description, Date, Amount . I had completed this task successfully by binding DropDownBox to database by query string and added income using stored procedure as below.
I need this to be done using only single Stored Procedure for binding Field Value to DropDownBox and for adding income. Plz tell me how to do this?

Hi,
at first...
Yes, I have seen this post http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=366077&SiteID=1 and yes, my Stored Procedure contains a "Set nocount on"...
:-)
My Stored Procedure contains variable SQL-Code to check a table (given by parameter) against some masterdata tables and I would like to write the result of the check to a flatfile to be able to send it via mail.
but evoking the Stored procedure brings up no meta data for the Flatfile Destination - the preview works...
any other hints?
except for doing the ckeck completely in SSIS?
:-P
cheers

<sigh> been doing all kinds of stuff in SSIS and then I get to what I thought should be simple: Running a stored procedure, and I've had nothing but headache:
OLEDB connection, ResultSet None
SQL Statement: EXEC dbo.pStoredProcedure ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ? OUTPUT
Parameters Mapping page:
User::gvSourceName Input VARCHAR 0, User::gvDestinationName Input VARCHAR 1, System::UserName Input VARCHAR 2 etc.. etc.. UserlvDataImportID Output NUMERIC 6
I've emptied my stored procedure out... but that doesn't seem to matter it doesn't ever run the procedure. If I try to parse the Query I get the error "The Query failed to parse. Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt."
If I run the package I get the error: [Execute SQL Task] Error: Executing the query "EXEC dbo.pStoredProcedure ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ? OUTPUT" failed with the following error: "Unspecified error". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.
I've tried without the output variable and I still get the corrupt memory error and when I run the package I get: [Execute SQL Task] Error: Executing the query "EXEC dbo.pDataImportInfoInitINSERT ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?" failed with the following error: "Invalid character value for cast specification". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.
Even though I have made sure the datatypes match exactly between the parameters in the stored procedure and in the execute sql. I also know my connection is good as I use it in many steps before I get to the execute sql task...
Any ideas? I've tried just about everything I can think of short of building a whole new package...

I want to call "oracle" stored procedure with output parameter from SSIS ole db command task.
Actually I am able to successfully call the procedure but my Output value is not updating in the mapped column.
I used below PL/SQL query.
DECLARE
IS_VALID VARCHAR2(200);
BEGIN
IS_VALID(
PARAM1 => ?,
PARAM2 => ?,
IS_VALID => IS_VALID
);
? := IS_VALID;
END;
If I try to supply "OUTPUT" word I get error:
"ORA-06550: line 1, column 45:
PLS-00103: Encountered the symbol "OUTPUT" when expecting one of the following:Â Â . ( ) , * @ % & = - + < / >"
BEGIN
IS_VALID(
?,
?,
? OUTPUT
);
END;

I am using execute sql task to run a stored procedure in oracle database which returns a resultset. This works. Now I need to send the ouput to a destination table in a sql database. Should I use for each loop to pick the resultset and insert it into the destination one by one (which I dont think is a great idea) or is there a better way to accomplish this task (in data flow task) ?
When I use dataflow task instead of execute sql task, the main issue is I am not able to see the output columns when I execute an oracle stored procedure, but when I see the preview I can see the resultset . But I can see the output columns for a sql server stored procedure.

I want to be able to have an authorized person set or change the default values of a table column in a SQL Database. I have a stored procedure that sets the default which works fine: ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[addMyConst]ASBEGINALTER TABLE [dbo].[tbl1]ADD DEFAULT 70 FOR [Auto_ourlim]END(I still need to put parameters in so that I can run the stored procedure from a form, but for now....)
To change it I know that I have to drop the constraint first like this:
ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[dropmyValue]ASALTER TABLE [dbo].[tbl1] DROP CONSTRAINT [Auto_ourlim]
The problem is that when I execute the procedure I get the error that "Auto_ourlim" is not a constraint so it does not drop the Default Value. When I go over to SQL Server Management Studio Express I can see why:
If I open up the table and open up the Constraints the constraint is "DF__tbl1__Auto_ourli__5FB337D6". I could change the DROP CONSTRAINT to this, and that works, but it changes every time I add the new DEFAULT VALUE. I don't know how to get around it. Is there a way to put wildcards around "Auto_our" in DROP CONSTRAINT [Auto_ourlim}? Any suggestions would be welcome...even if there's a totally different way to do it.
What I'm trying to ultimately accomplish is this: Column1 (AutoLimits) would be user insert to the database and then in the database it would MINUS Column2 (Auto_ourlim - set with the default value) = Column3 (Difference - a computed field in the database)

Hi all - I'm trying to optimized my stored procedures to be a bit easier to maintain, and am sure this is possible, not am very unclear on the syntax to doing this correctly. For example, I have a simple stored procedure that takes a string as a parameter, and returns its resolved index that corresponds to a record in my database. ie
exec dbo.DeriveStatusID 'Created'
returns an int value as 1
(performed by "SELECT statusID FROM statusList WHERE statusName= 'Created')
but I also have a second stored procedure that needs to make reference to this procedure first, in order to resolve an id - ie:
exec dbo.AddProduct_Insert 'widget1'
which currently performs:SET @statusID = (SELECT statusID FROM statusList WHERE statusName='Created')INSERT INTO Products (productname, statusID) VALUES (''widget1', @statusID)
I want to simply the insert to perform (in one sproc):
SET @statusID = EXEC deriveStatusID ('Created')INSERT INTO Products (productname, statusID) VALUES (''widget1', @statusID)
This works fine if I call this stored procedure in code first, then pass it to the second stored procedure, but NOT if it is reference in the second stored procedure directly (I end up with an empty value for @statusID in this example).
My actual "Insert" stored procedures are far more complicated, but I am working towards lightening the business logic in my application ( it shouldn't have to pre-vet the data prior to executing a valid insert).
Hopefully this makes some sense - it doesn't seem right to me that this is impossible, and am fairly sure I'm just missing some simple syntax - can anyone assist?

Hi all,
I have 2 sets of sql code in my SQL Server Management Stidio Express (SSMSE):

GO
(2) /////--spTopSixAnalytesEXEC.sql--//////////////
USE ssmsExpressDB
GO
EXEC spTopSixAnalytes

I executed them and got the following results in SSMSE:

3 211.90 ug/Kg Acetone
4 140.30 ug/L Acetone
5 120.70 ug/L Acetone
6 90.70 ug/L Acetone
/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Now, I try to use this Stored Procedure in my ADO.NET-VB 2005 Express programming:
//////////////////--spTopSixAnalytes.vb--///////////
Public Class Form1
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
Dim sqlConnection As SqlConnection = New SqlConnection("Data Source = .SQLEXPRESS; Integrated Security = SSPI; Initial Catalog = ssmsExpressDB;")
Dim sqlDataAdapter As SqlDataAdapter = New SqlDataAdaptor("[spTopSixAnalytes]", sqlConnection)
sqlDataAdapter.SelectCommand.Command.Type = CommandType.StoredProcedure
'Pass the name of the DataSet through the overloaded contructor
'of the DataSet class.
Dim dataSet As DataSet ("ssmsExpressDB")
sqlConnection.Open()
sqlDataAdapter.Fill(DataSet)
sqlConnection.Close()
End Sub
End Class
///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
I executed the above code and I got the following 4 errors:
Error #1: Type 'SqlConnection' is not defined (in Form1.vb)
Error #2: Type 'SqlDataAdapter' is not defined (in Form1.vb)
Error #3: Array bounds cannot appear in type specifiers (in Form1.vb)
Error #4: 'DataSet' is not a type and cannot be used as an expression (in Form1)
Please help and advise.
Thanks in advance,
Scott Chang
More Information for you to know:
I have the "ssmsExpressDB" database in the Database Expolorer of VB 2005 Express. But I do not know how to get the SqlConnection and the SqlDataAdapter into the Form1. I do not know how to get the Fill Method implemented properly.
I try to learn "Working with SELECT Statement in a Stored Procedure" for printing the 6 rows that are selected - they are not parameterized.

Hi everyone,
I posted a related thread before about this error below when I process a dimension. And seems that the solution by using "ClearCache" can not fingure out the issue when I want to process a mining structure...... .
OLE DB error: OLE DB or ODBC error: There is not enough procedure cache to run this procedure, trigger, or SQL batch. Retry later, or ask your SA to reconfigure SQL Server with more procedure cache.
; Sort failed because there is insufficient procedure cache for the configured number of sort buffers. Please retry the query after configuring lesser number of sort buffers.
Could someone please give me some suggestions?
Your help will be very appreciated:-)

set QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON
SET NOCOUNT ON

@varPK int
set @varPK = 0

Where NSC = @varNSC
and NC = @varNC
and IIN = @varIIN)
set @varPK =
(select Item_id

Where NSC = @varNSC
and NC = @varNC
and IIN = @varIIN)
set @varOut = @varPK
if @varPK <> 0 Return
end
[There are some more methods here]
Return
END
How do I get at the output value?
I have tried using derived column and ole db command but can't seem to grasp how to pass the value to the derived column. I can get oledb command to run using 'exec dbo.spPK ?, ?, ?, ?, ? output' but don't know what to do from here.

I have some code that I need to run every quarter. I have many that are similar to this one so I wanted to input two parameters rather than searching and replacing the values. I have another stored procedure that's executed from this one that I will also parameter-ize. The problem I'm having is in embedding a parameter in the name of the called procedure (exec statement at the end of the code). I tried it as I'm showing and it errored. I tried googling but I couldn't find anything related to this. Maybe I just don't have the right keywords. what is the syntax?

hi all,
I'm trying to get some xml data into sql server but i ran into this problem: openxml seems to repeat results ...
I simplified my example to this:
------------------------------------------------------
Declare @rDoc int,
@sDoc varchar(4000)
Set @sDoc = '
<ROOT>
<Rider>aaa</Rider>
<Rider>bbb</Rider>
<Rider>ccc</Rider>
</ROOT>'
EXEC sp_xml_preparedocument @rDoc OUTPUT, @sDoc
SELECT *
FROM OPENXML (@rDoc, 'ROOT/Rider', 1)
WITH (RiderName varchar(50) '../Rider')
----------------------------------------------------------
it returns 3 records for the 'rider' elements, _but_ all the records contain the text 'aaa' :/
does anybody know the solution to this?
cheers,

How can I grant permissions to a login to execute msdb.dbo.sp_update_schedule()? Or is there a way I can impersonate the sysadmin user for the call by using Execute As sysadmin some how?

Has anyone encountered cases in which a proc executed by DTS has the following behavior:
1) underperforms the same proc when executed in DTS as opposed to SQL Server Managemet Studio
2) underperforms an ad-hoc version of the same query (UPDATE) executed in SQL Server Managemet Studio
What could explain this?
Obviously,
All three scenarios are executed against the same database and hit the exact same tables and indices.
Query plans show that one step, a Clustered Index Seek, consumes most of the resources (57%) and for that the estimated rows = 1 and actual rows is 10 of 1000's time higher. (~ 23000).
The DTS execution effectively never finishes even after many hours (10+)
The Stored procedure execution will finish in 6 minutes (executed after the update ad-hoc query)
The Update ad-hoc query will finish in 2 minutes

Well, i need a piece of code that return me the schema rowset of a desicion tree and let me iterate me on it. I need some columns like node_type, node_unique_name.... etc.. And another question is that the node_distribution has multiple rows of information. How can i access them. I think there must be a adomddatareader object to iterate on them..
Well thanks a lot for your responses...

Please let me know if I am on the right track here.
I have an Execute SQL Task that selects multiple rows from an OLE DB connection, each row containing 3 columns (data types = string, Int32, Int32). In this task ResultSet = "Full result set" and Result Set > Result Name = 0, Variable Name = [User::viewInfo] which is a user variable with Data Type = Object.
I want to use a Foreach Loop Container to enumerate over the result set rows that are contained in the [User::viewInfo] variable described above. For each resultset row I want to breakout the 3 column values and assign them to 3 corresponding variables that can be referenced in a Data Flow in the Foreach Loop.
Current settings for the Foreach Loop Container: Collection > Enumerator = "Foreach ADO Enumerator", Collection > Enumerator Configuration > ADO object source variable = [User::viewInfo], Enumeration mode = "Rows in the first table". On the Variable Mappings page I select the 3 corresponding user variables I want the rowset column values assigned to, with indexes starting at 1 (not 0).

I'd like the "OUTPUT DELETED.* INTO target table" resulting from a DELETE to occur in the same order as the clustering key of the target table. Is this possible?

I am using a proc that runs fine in SSMS Query editor and also produces rows when I click the Preview button in the OLEDB Source Adapter. It has two input parameters. The proc contains some CTE's and UNION ALL's. It does not contain any dynamic sql. However, when I run the package I get this error:
[OLE DB Source [1]] Error: A rowset based on the SQL command was not returned by the OLE DB provider.
How can that be when the Preview shows rows being returned?

Hi,
I get the following error.
Err.Description - "Rowset does not support fetching backward."
Err. Number - -2147217884
Can somebody tell me the reason behind this error.
My Reasearch: I have got to know that I get this error in the line of code recordset.MoveLast in My code.
My Code environment: I have built an SQL Query string which calls the Strored procedure with one parameter (parameter tyoe is string type). I have attached the SP code below.
and SP contains the call for querying other database in the same server using OPENQUERY command.
and the VB code contains code as Recordset.MoveLast. (Error is generated here and Recordset.RecordCount is also -1)
SP code is:
Code Block
CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[sp_RMS]
@sRMS_Status CHAR(12)
AS
BEGIN
DECLARE @sSQL VARCHAR (1000)
SET @sSQL = '''SELECT *
FROM VW_JOKE
WHERE JOKE_ID = ''' + '''' + @sRMS_Status + '''' +
''' ORDER BY JOKE_NO''
EXEC ( 'SELECT * FROM OPENQUERY(lnk_joke__cat,' + @sSQL + ')' )
END
My Questions:
1). Is there any problem in SP as I am using OpenQuery? I queries the SP and concluded that it generates result properly.
2). Is there any problem with the Recordset.MoveLast line? I am using adOpenKeyset, adLockReadOnly as parameters to my Recordset.Open command along with other parameters.
Let me know the corrective steps to be taken to get rid of this error.
Thanks in Advance for your valuable time
