I am just trying a simple query of an Excel file.
Select * FROM OPENROWSET('Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0','Excel 8.0;Database=C:MyFile.xls;HDR=YES', 'SELECT * FROM [Sheet1$]')
and i am getting this error
Server: Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
OLE DB provider 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' reported an error. The provider did not give any information about the error.

I know for a fact that the path is correct and that it is the path of the server. So what is the problem with this??
I want to open a excel file in script task and assigned the wraptext to one of the column. In the below code the final variable gives the path of the excel file. But i got the error at excel.workbook.open.

I got error
OLE DB provider "microsoft.jet.oledb.4.0" for linked server "(null)" returned message "Unspecified error". Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "microsoft.jet.oledb.4.0" for linked server "(null)".
but the same query can run without any problem on a SQL 2000 server run on a server in the same network.
I have a foreach loop that is processing all .xls files then moving them to a processed directory.Problem is that when I try to open the original file which is in .xls 97-2003 format, it's giving me a file error that SSIS could not read. Â Found out the problem was called Extension Hardening. Â I fixed it in the registry according to a website I found and I thought about writing a Batch file or Script to handle it, however SSIS still can't read unless I open and "save-as" to another format. Â It even works if I still save it in 97-2003 format just has to be a different file.How can I open and resave the files (all excel files in directory through a loop) and rename them the same?
For example: Original file named "ABCDEFG_08_15_2015.xls"
Can I loop through all files in the directory and name each one differently say "REVISED_ABCDEFG_08_15_2015.xls" so I can read them through SSIS?I think I need a @filename variable or something for that..
I have the Excel Connection Manager and Source to read the contents from an Excel file. For some reason couple of numeric fields from the Excel worksheet are brought over as nulls even though they have a value of 300 and 150. I am not sure why this is happening. I looked into the format of the fields and they are set to General in Excel, I tried setting them to numeric and that did not help.
All the other content from the excel file is coming thru except for the 2 numeric fields.
I tried to bring the contents from the excel source to a text file in csv format and for some reason the 2 numeric fields came out as blank.
Any inputs on getting this addressed will be much appreciated.
Is there anyway to  send excel file from ssis using send mail task without saving the excel file locally. I need to automate the process which involves loading the excel file from the database and send it to some people.Â
I am running my package in sql server 2012, in which i am giving network path for flat file destination. And its working fine. But if i give m local path, its giving me  error " cannot open data file" ...
I have used the copy database wizard, but I realized I had forgotten to shrink the transaction log file. So I canceled the wizard. My database, detached by the wizard, has now disappeared. The mdf file is still there, but when I try to attach it manually I get the "create file encountered operating system error 5 while attempting to open the physical file..." error.

I am trying to write a Windows Application using ASP.NET 2.0, C#2005 EXPRESS, and SQL 2005 EXPRESS.
I had followed the introductory video to create a connection to the Database using Windows Authentication, and use the wizard to create a dataset and checking all the tables in the database.
After that I dragged a table from the data source created from the above process. The Details Grid so created is able to perform update, delete and addition of records.
But when I went back to the database at my PC I wasn€™t able to connect to the database. And if I opened the database first and then load the windows application and perform some database operations and went back to the physical database I wasn€™t able to open the tables in the database.
The error message is that the physical database connection cannot open the .mdf file or log file because another process is using the database. I guess it refers to the Windows Application.
Is this normal? Will it have any implications after the application is deployed? I suppose that there isn€™t a scenario where a Windows application and a physical process will access the database at the same time.
Will appreciate some feedback and advice on this scenario and whether it is a problem.
Trying to upload excel in server where excel is not installed. BIDs was there in the server, when i am trying to craete Excel source I am not able.what the workround for this.. How to upload excel without excel installed on the server.
I am using a Excel Source to get the data from an excel file to sql server 2005 table. A couple columns are coming in a double precision float, but some values have characters in them, but those values are coming out as null, even though I changed the datatype from float to unicode string. Any inputs on resolving this will be much appreciated.
We have 10 sheets in Excel File and 10 sheet contains errror data. How to load 9 sheets data in to 1 destination and error data in to other destination?
i have an SSIS package that exports to an excel file. This works fine. the problem is that it appends the data instead of overwriting the file. Is there any way to overwrite the file like you can with a flat file? I have to email the file everyweek and don't want to have to clear it out manually. Any help would be appreciated

I have a package which has an Excel source with the 'Data access mode' set to SQL command and then a sql select statement. Â When I try and hit the 'Preview...' button below the 'SQL command text' window I get the following error:
 "Error at Standard Data Flow Tasks [source tasks name]: No column information was returned by the SQL command"  Ordinarily this would be down to the fact that my SQL is shocking, I hit the 'Preview...' button whilst the workbook the source is pointing at was open and it works fine??  I can't figure this out, but needless to say the package errors with a NEEDSNEWMETADATA when I try and run it.
Good Day to all, Hope you could help me w/ my project. Im creating a DTS Package. The source data will be coming from an excel file going to my SQL table. The DTS package is scheduled to execute daily, but the source data will be coming from different excel filename. Example, today the DTS will get data from Data092506.xls. Then tomorrow, the data will be coming from Data092606.xls. How can I do this? The DTS I've already done has a fixed source data file. Please help. Thank you so much. God Bless.
I was given a dts file to look at based on the Northwinds DB. The file was not password protected and comes from a SQL Server Configured exactly like mine. Is there a way to open this file in the DTS design window? I could not find anything in BOL or help. Thanks
I want to start by saying I know virtually nothing about SQL Server.
I work for a website and have an old database of ours. It was exported in Sql Server 2008. It has 3 files an mdf file, a secondary data file, and a transaction log file.
When I try to attach I get an error, and the error is 5173 stating "One or more files do not match the primary file or the database." I have looked at the top 20 results for this error in a Google search and have found nothing. I just want to get in and look at some of the data, run a few basic queries.
On the Sql Peformance Monitor, I have scheduled a log to give me memory and perfomance of my server and I store the results in .csv file every hour and it works perfect.
Here comes the problem when I make a DTS to take data from .csv to Sql, my problem is, I get this error "The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process". Basically it tells me that I have to close the file before I can run my DTS.
I dont want close this file manually and run my DTS afterwards, I want my DTS to do this automatically since I won't have access to that server when I am finished as I am going off from the clients premises when I am finished
Hello, Using a foreach loop which contains dataflow. Inside dataflow there is a flatfile source. The following error is produced inthe flat file source.

We are using VS 2005 with SQL Server Mobile Edition. We created the .sdf file on the desktop and added this file to our VS project and set the Build Action to content. Next we deployed our app on Symbol PDA which has Windows CE 5.0 as the OS. We followed the following steps:

Because of this, we unable to run the app since in our login form, this database is not available and hence we cannot proceed.
I have a ssis package where I need to have excel destination. Â In the Excel file, I need to have few rows with some text and then populate data below the text. One the text is like this:
Data as of: Â 08/25/2015
if the report ran today, then Data as of will have Yesterday. So, if the user opens that excel file after a week, then user should see same  Data as of:  08/25/2015. not today()-day(1).
I was planing to handle on excel side with today()-day(1). but it only works the day it was run. Then the excel file is open after few days later, then it might as Data as of:  08/30/2015 which is not true. It should still stay Data as of:
 08/25/2015 on what ever date the excel file is open. The SSIS package  runs only once.Â
How do I handle this so that whenever user open the file, they will see Data as of:  08/25/2015. This is not a column in excel. It is like a description of data in excel.
its my flow in one of my packates (ETL job) Excel file contains monthly revenue details, i wanna import the excel data to my database staging table, so i've created the package. its working fine...
Problem if we change the new data for the next month and running the package its not running; the same file, same format, only we delete the contents, of the file except first row of the excel sheet, and pasting the new data; new data is coming from Oracle DataBase in the form of excel sheet ( manually they will copy the data and sending to us)
i open that package in design mode and while double clicking the excel file source it says <column name>'s Meta Data needs to be synchronized Do you want to Fix this issue automatically with the available external column's meta data
Clearly noted that its a data type issue; i have changed the corresponding data types as it is in the previous Excel sheet which is equivalant to the Table its copying to.
now the package is running with validation warnings, External Column "Invoice Amount" needs to be updated...etc. some 2 or three warning messages i can able to see in the package Execution wizard,
ok, i'm ready to accept these warnings, and i want my package running from my server;( packages had been deployed in to the Centeralized server; every time if we want to run the package, we have the asp.net webpage, that is executing the package in an On_click event)
The package is not running from the server, its due to the meta data change in the Excel file( i guess)
please suggest me some guide lines to resolve this meta data issue, i want my excel sheet meta data should not change when we have new updates in it;
otherwise suggest me some solutions that i can validate the excel sheet before running the package and testing whether the data is in correct format or not? its a kind of Data Profiling activity;
i know its some what crazy, but i need to maintain the system with permanent solution, instead of facing this meta data mismatch issue!!!

I am fairly new to ASP.NET and MSSQL but when I run my website with memberships and roles everything seems to work perfectly!! NO PROBLEMS!! However when I try to go and actually open the ASPNETDB.MDF database file that was automatically created by VB when I added a login and sign up panel I get this Error Message "An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file C:Documents and SettingsoxMy DocumentsMy Webs nsApp_DataASPNETDB.MDF failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share." I don't really know why I can't open this file. I have someone who is going to help with some extra database work but asked if I could open this database so he could see the structure of it. I have a copy of the website as backup in another folder on my computer but even removing that backup does nothing in helping open the original. THANKS PLEASE HELP! Mark
Has anyone tried Open File Manager to backup SQL 7? I'm in the middle of an evaluation (and all is going well), so I wanted to get other's opinions before I purchase.
I tried their 5.x product a year ago, and it didn't work. But V6 has been just what they toted (it worked, no questions asked).

Currently I can not open an MS Access file that was brought from one of the Europe offices, I got a error message "ODBC--Cnnection to Supportdb_sql7.mdb failed when I tried to open it. Supportdb_sql7.mdb is the file name.
I created a comma-seperated text file by exporting an Access table. I tried to bulk insert into into a SQL Server table using the following code:
BULK INSERT databasename.dbo.tablename FROM 'C:commaseparatedfilename.txt' WITH (FIELDTERMINATOR = ';', ROWTERMINATOR = '', FIRSTROW=2)
but it returns the following error:
Msg 4861, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Cannot bulk load because the file "C:commaseparatedfilename.txt" could not be opened. Operating system error code 5(error not found).
