In Enterprise Manager, I would right click on the table, choose Open Table and Query where I could select specific records and (most importantly) could alter data in a record by deleting the text, adding or over-typing.
In 2005 Server Management Studio I just cannot figure how to do this. I'm guessing that I need the 'Script Table as' option but then what?
I have managed to open selected data using the New Query and then Design Query in Editor, but the results only appear in a kind of view form and I cannot seem to alter any of the data entries, I get dotted lines around the selected field.
Post installation of SQL Server 2014 Express edition, I am able to connect to the Database Instance.
But while opening a new query window in SSMS or opening a table getting the error:
Package 'RadLangSvc.Package, RadLangSvc, Version 12.0.0.0, Culture=Neutral, Public Token=89845dcd8080cc91' failed to load
Object reference not set to an instance of an object. (mscorlib)..Have already tried installing the componentsDACProjectSystemSetup_enu.msi, TSql LanguageService_enu.msi, DACFramework_enu.msi from path VS 2010 WCU DAC.
when i click on the modify option on a stored procedure it is not opening for editing as earlier. it opens as if for scripting.for example i clicked modify procedure on stored proc. "text" and the result is as follows.
/****** Object: StoredProcedure [dbo].[test] Script Date: 05/01/2015 7:50:08 PM ******/ SET ANSI_NULLS ON GO SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON GO IF EXISTS (SELECT * FROM sys.objects WHERE object_id = OBJECT_ID(N'[dbo].[test]') AND type in (N'P', N'PC'))
I created am inventory table with few columns say, Servername, version, patching details, etc
I want a tracking of the table.
Let's say people are asked to modify the base table and I want a complete capture of the details modified and the session of the user ( ) who (system_user) is actually modifying the details.
I'm working on a report to show financial transactions from a table over a certain period. For most transactions there is a PDF document that is stored in a separate table in a binairy format. In my report I would like to include a link on every line with transaction information in the report that opens the PDF that is linked to that transaction. Just to be clear, I don't want to embed the PDF in the report but I want the users of the report to have the option to view the PDF that is related to that transaction in their standard pdf reader (adobe).
Code to do the following:
Once a user clicks on the link to view the PDF I need the code to get the binairy data of the PDF file from the table, convert it back to a PDF and open it in the default pdf reader (for example adobe reader). If it can't directly open the file then it's maybe possible to activate the 'open or download' pop up that you also get when you download something from a website.

I've inherited an application that has a query that typically bombs out due to a deadlock in SQL Server 2005. I know where the resource contention is, and why the deadlock happens, and why SQL picks this query to fail, so that's all cool with me. My problem is that I'm in the process of modifying this query to be a little less resource intensive, and I'm getting two different result sets.
The original query is returning 1234 rows, and my first replacement query attempt is returning 930. My replacement query attempt is using a derived table (subquery) rather than copying into a temp table (as the original query is doing). I understand what the missing rows are and why they are not in the result set, so my question is What is it about my replacement query attempt that is so different from the original query?
I appreciate any advice anyone might have to offer.
Best, B.

How do I modify data in a sqlDataSource object (like inserting records, editing, deleting) similiary to how I modify data in a GradView using a DataList or repeater? I want to be able to have my own EditTemplate and be able to edit say four fields while I'm only viewing like two of them in the datalist/repeater. <asp:DataList ID="DataList1" runat="server" DataKeyField="GameId" DataSourceID="SqlDataSource1" RepeatColumns="1"> <ItemTemplate> <%# Eval("field1") %><%# Eval("field2") %>.... </ItemTemplate> <EditTemplate>......</EditTemplate>
When I'm trying to add a edit-button (<asp:Button runat="Server" ID="EditButton" Text="Edit" CommandName="Edit" />) and click it nothing happens....What is missing?

I have a 3rd party program that creates some tables in my sql server2005 database, then it does inserts on the tables. Is there a way Icould create a system level trigger that would immediately andautomatically modfiy the table structure after the table is created(hopefully before the inserts occur)? I need to change a field fromnumeric(5, 0) to numeric(15, 0).Thanks,Roger
my aim is to modify the two fields to change its data type. BUt when im trying to run this command in the query analyzer, itsays "incorrect syntax error '(' "
I've a table with an ID column, it is an auto increment id column that increases by 1.
ID -- 9724 9725
When my webhost restarts SQL, or some other random act of God, this ID jumps by 1000. Today it leapt from 9725 to 10725, which just doesn't work for me. It results in my having to upload the last known good copy of the database.
My host says they can't change the 1000 row buffer, MS apparently doesn't deem this an issue, and I'm quite frustrated. I used to be able to modify certain settings in SQL since I was using an SQL 2008 database under SQL Management Console but since my host upgraded to 2012, and I'm running XP, there is no forward compatibility and many options are no longer possible (eg. modifying a column, now it has to be done via clicking query and entering a SQL command rather than just right clicking on the column)
So long story made short... is there a way to modify my table (named "places") to turn OFF the autoincrement Id and perform a simple means to figure out the next possible value?
example: id, place, locstion, gps, v2, v3, v4, comment ================================================ 9720, Bill's House, Toronto, 43.4453, y, n, c, This was a good place to eat 9721, Dime a Dozen, Cambridge, 42.4453, n, e, d, A good place to take photos
I'd have to pull the highest value of ID (+1 to it) and then do a standard INSERT into places (id, place, location, gps, v2, v3, v4, comment) values (9722, etc...)I guess my concern is if the autoidentity is turned off, will SQL allow a new value to be entered via INSERT? I'm also using the @@identity to find the last known ID when I want to direct the user to the entry that they've just created and I don't know what that # is just yet. Would the @@identity still work?
Hi all I was wondering how to do an ALTER command on a Table but without specifying Column Names but rather attempting to overwrite the Table itself with the new fields specified? For instance if I have Table_1 consisting of the following fields:
IDFirstNameSurname
Then use the following ALTER command:
Code Snippet ALTER Table Table_1 ( ID Int, FirstName VarChar(50) ) This would then drop Surname from the Table and leave only ID and FirstName inside it. Is this possible? I have been searching google but can't seem to find what I am looking for.
i am using a view grid to display data the viewgrid is tied to an sqldatasource control i want to give the user the ability of modifing data by colomn instead of by row how could i do ?
Trying to change some of the rows in a table specifically one column. column type is varchar ex. of data current desired $345,434.0 345434.0 (stripping out of $ & commas) 435.0 leave as is general txt leave as is
having trouble updating data in table tried using temp table, but update command make it so it won't see table
ex. piece of code update currency_conversion set currency_varchar = cast (cast (currency_varchar as money)as varchar) select * from currency_conversion where substring (currency_varchar from 1 for 1) = '$' ;
I was wondering how to modify a column's properties, like its datatype or length.
I know I'm supposed to do something like this: ALTER TABLE MyTable ALTER COLUMN MyColumn int(20)
My main concern is, what will the database do to all the data in the column, if the column used to be, say nvarchar(50)? Will I lose the data in the column if I change the datatype? And what if I had data in this column that was longer than 20 characters? Will the data now be truncated? What can I do to make sure that nothing happens to the data once I change the datatype?
Our ERP vendor is helping us migrate from one version of their product to another. In the new version, they have added some columns and changed a few data types in several existing tables.
They sent us a list of the modifications that were necessary, which we did (painstakingly) by hand. But, for other reasons the update failed and we have to start anew.
This got me thinking: is there any way to do this kind of update via a script/stored procedure? I don't have their exact changes handy, but it was stuff like the table "inmast" needs a column of varchar(50) called "lotc" added to it, and the "intime" table needs the datatype of columns "Mon" "Tue" "Wed" changed from text to varchar(50), stuff like that.
I am quite new to MS SQL, and I want to read rows from a todo table, andwhen a row has been processed, I want to delete that row.Ages ago in MySQL I would probably have locked the table, select, processa row, delete a row, unlock the table.I have been reading through the documentation from MS SQL, but it's notclear what exactly I should do.Since I want to lock only one table in the select (the others just providedata, and are not modified), what's a good solution?--John MexIT: http://johnbokma.com/mexit/personal page: http://johnbokma.com/Experienced programmer available: http://castleamber.com/Happy Customers: http://castleamber.com/testimonials.html
I have an existing VB6 application which uses an Access 2003 backend datafile, however, I would now like to modify this to use an SQL 2005 datafile, but I don't know how to go about this or the implications when the application is installed on another machine.
The code I use for accessing the Access 2003 file is below, I want to convert this code to access an SQL 2005 datafile instead, can anyone give me some pointers on the best way to go about this, or code sample.
Dim rst As ADODB.Recordset Dim dbs As ADODB.Connection
Set rst = New ADODB.Recordset Set dbs = New ADODB.Connection
I've created a Union All data flow task which unions string fields from a couple of queries. I found that I needed to increase the length of the string field in the queries. Increasing the length causes an error in my Union All task. I can't seem to find a way to change the property of the fields in the Union All task. Most of the other data flow tasks have an advanced editor where I can change the length or type of the fields on the input and or output. I can't seem to find this for the Union All task.
Is there any way short of deleting the Output column and recreating it? (I like the order of my original output columns)
