Hi there I dunno if this is the correct place to ask this.
I got this database that is part of application, I need to convert/migrate it to any other current database like SQL server, the problem is that I dunno the database type, with his current application I know it got stored names and address, from the application I can only export 9999 records at the same time.
The database is a 300mb DAT file.
I have never done anything like this before so Any help or suggestions would be apreciatte, ty.

I'm using MS Report Designer 2005 and have created a report that uses a cube, with a dimension set up to convert null values to unknown (nullProcessing = UnknownMember).
When I create a parameter using the checkbox in the graphical design mode's filter pane, Report Designer automatically sets the constrained flag, eg:
When running the report and selecting the 'Unkown' value from the parameter list, the error 'the restrictions imposed by the CONSTRAINED flag in the STRTOSET function were violated' occurrs.
How can I prevent the constrained flag from being used, or am I doing something wrong with converting null values to 'Unknown'?
This is what I want to do:1. Delete all tables in database with table names that ends with anumber.2. Leave all other tables in tact.3. Table names are unknown.4. Numbers attached to table names are unknown.5. Unknown number of tables in database. For example:(Tables in database)AccountAccount1Account2BinderBinder1Binder2Binder3.......I want to delete all the tables in the database with the exceptionof Account and Binder.I know that there are no wildcards in the "Drop Table tablename"syntax. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to write this sqlstatement?Note: I am executing this statement in MS Access with the"DoCmd.RunSQL sql_statement" command. Thanks for any help!
I work with a group that develops Access Databases in a LAN environment. We have an issue with others linking into our databases but not letting us know. Does anyone know of a way to determine what other databases have linked into a database to use its data? When we try to modify databases, this becomes an issue since we can not save mods if the file is in use.
I have been working on an app for several weeks. My database size went from 9MB to about 12MB. Sometime in the last 2 days it jumped up to 242 MB. I don't know why. Now I cannot open it with management Studio Express. It says another process is using it. Usually this means I have a aspnet_wp.exe process running (from Visual Studio) and I just end the process, but Wndows Task Manager will not end the process. It does knock its size way down to 2.9 MB but won't kill it. Rebooting won't kill it either. Are these two symptoms related? How do I recover?Thank you.
I have a SQL2008 database, running Standard Edition 64-bit, database owns by sa, connected to Management Studio using Windows Authentication mode. When I tried to generate scripts from a database, I got the following error messages:-
[Operation is not valid due to the current state of the object. (SqlManagerUI)]
which happened at one particular table. I have reviewed this table definitions are normal, and I could select data from it.
I couldn't find any information anywhere relating to this error messages, except that someone got it when they were trying to change the authentication mode or sa password.
Hi,I am getting this error when i am connecting sql database.Error = "SQL Server does not exist or access denied."Can you please suggest me where i am going wrong.RegardsNaveen
Hi everybody, I am using VB Webforms as my front end and MSDE 2000 as my back end. I am not able to drop a database after executing the following vb code on that database: Dim vConnection As New SqlConnection(vConnectionString) Dim vAdapter As New SqlDataAdapter("SELECT party_type_code, party_type_name, party_type_imported" & _ " FROM Party_Type" & _ " ORDER BY party_type_name", vConnection) Dim vDataTable As New DataTable() vAdapter.Fill(vDataTable) vAdapter.Dispose() vConnection.Dispose() On trying to drop the database using the SQL Command "DROP DATABASE PPCABCD2005", I get the error message:Cannot drop the database 'PPCABCD2005' because it is currently in use ...However, if I don't execute the above code, I am able to drop it. Why is it so? What is the solution to this problem?
I know that opening a connection to a DB is expensive. Usually I write a method that opens a connection to the DB then I execute a query and then close the connection. Pretty standard.
OK, so how do I handle opening connections to the database when I need to run multiple queries. For example, i have a webpage that need to query the database to see if the user has moderator privledges, then depending on that query I have to query the DB again for moderator specific information or non-modertaor information.
So in this case how do i handle opening connections to the DB. Is it ok to generally have to open a connection to a DB multiple times on a page load?
The obvious solution is to keep the connection open. That is, open a connection, query the Db, keep the connection open, do the conditional statment ( if is_Moderator) then query the DB again for the info that I need, and then close the connection. But, from all the books that Ive been reading this is not a good practice because business logic should not been in the dataAccess layer.
I am try to create an application (WPF) that uses data from an SQL server database via a web service, all localized on my computer in a virtual folder. The program work fine, it can retrieve the data from the database.
The problem arises when I want to open the same database with server explorer in VS2008 or with SQL server management studio.
Once I have used my application those two programs are not able any more to establish a connection with the database inviting me to close the program that is using the database. Even if I shut down my application and the full project those to program can not open it. I need to switch the computer off.
My application closes and dispose the connection as soon as the data have been retrieved.
The connection string that I am using is the following:
I am trying to call a stored procedure to insert into my database. After I called Open(), it crashed on ExecuteNonQuery(). I get the following message.
Object must implement IConvertible. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.
Exception Details: System.InvalidCastException: Object must implement IConvertible.
Source Error:
Line 160:Try Line 161:myConnection.Open() Line 162:myCommand.ExecuteNonQuery() Line 163:myConnection.Close()
What does this mean? If anyone encountered this error before, please let me know how to trace the error and fix it.
The application uses Merge Replication. The error occurs in the Synchronise() Method of the SqlCeReplication object.
"SQL Server Mobile encountered problems when opening the database."
repl.AddSubscription(AddOption.ExistingDatabase) repl.Synchronize() I also checked the the connection string and it seems to be fine. Both my device and server can ping each other. Moreever I can also access the Web syncronization folder(on server) from the device. Is anyone having a resolution for this?
Hello! I'm trying to connect a sql ce database from a PPC with WM 2003 to a sql server 2005 database.
I discover the class SqlCeRemoteDataAccess, so i've been trying, unsucessfuly, to get things working.
I googled a lot, i read Ms Articles from MSDN, i read some posts here, but can't find solution for my problem. As you can see in my code, i already tryed different aprroaches, differente connections strings, with "provider", without "provider", with "sspi", without "sspi", you name it...
I configure the sql server agent like i read in msdn, and he's working well, i'm able to see the message. ("Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition Server Agent" when i open the url).
The sql database credentials are correct, i already check that.
I did everything i knew and i read, unfortunately i still can't manage to find a solution for an error message:
"SQL Server Mobile encountered problems when opening the database." The native error is 28559
That's an Exception error message, that appears to me.
I'll try and ask one more time. Does anyone have a clue how to fix this?
"A SQL Server Compact Edition DLL could not be loaded. Reinstall SQL Server Compact Edition. [ DLL Name = sqlceca30.dll ]"
or
"SQL Server Compact Edition encountered problems when opening the database" "Internal error: The database is not initialized."
I've been fighting this for well over a week now. My XP based version works fine but this error occurs routinely on my CE4.2 device. I cannot find anything meaningful using Google other than 'look for non disposed' replication objects which I've done. Is this bad hardware? I don't believe I'm out of memory as the app is about 1.2MB including about 8 DLL's and GC indicates I have about 300KB of objects at the time of the failure. I also use a bunch of static (global) objects that I use throughout the code.
It would be nice if I could get the lower level error messages causing these failures but that is probably too much to ask.
The odd thing is that it's only the replication engine that fails as even after the failure, the app can reopen the DB and work with the data just fine.
My basic order of the application is...
1 Open DB SqlCEConnection 2 Create/Prepare any SqlCECommand objects 3 Do work here 4 Dispose any SqlCECommand objects 5 Close DB 6 Dispose SqlCEConnection object 7 Create SqlCEReplication object 8 BeginSynchronize 9 ... error here.. 10 Dispose SqlCEReplication object 11 Reopen DB SqlCEConnection
I've tried creating the Replication object at program start and that does not help. I'm guessing there is something about .net that I don't understand either with stack space, # dll's or whatever. I've rearranged the order of the Dispose, Create, SQL CE objects to include just about every permutation but still am hitting this same problem.
Are there any tools that can help me profile this app for memory problems or usage? Everything seems geared for .Net and not .NetCF.
When opening .sql files, I get a connect to database engine prompt every single time. how to stop this from prompting vs. just using my current active connection?
I have a solution with a couple of ssis projects in it. Everytime I open the solution, Visual Studio creates an extra .database file for the project's existing xxx.database file. The solution is under VSS control and VS2005 checks out the project and shows the file as a newly added file.
What causes this and how can I prevent this from occurring?
There are 2 of us working on the solution and the other fellow does not see this behavior.
The files do not show up in the VS2005 solution explorer. If they are user specific as I suspect (impersonation info?), then they should not be added to the .dtproj project file.
Using the following code we are having a problem connecting a clients WIndows Mobile device to the SDF under IIS. We have success elsewhere. Does anyone have any clues ?
I have a SSIS package where im importing data from MS access database file .MDB. I chose Microsoft JET 4.0 OLEDB provider. When i select a table and preview the data, im getting the below error.
Error at Data Flow Task [OLE DB Source [1]]: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E09.
Error at Data Flow Task [OLE DB Source [1]]: Opening a rowset for "_tblDateDateEarnedMismatch" failed. Check that the object exists in the database.
Hi, What are the steps required to migrate or upgrade data or database from a sql server 2005 express database to main sql server 2005 database? Regards,Sandy
I have a question about opening files in the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Management Studio.
In the old Query Analyzer from SQL 2000 I can open SQL Files via drag & drop (from explorer to QA) or open it with a double click in the explorer. Then the Files opened, if I had actual a connection to a server / database (QA is stared with one file and has a connection to Server/Datebase), with this connection.
Now in Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Management Studio I'll be asked everytime for Server and have to get the database from the database list - it does not connect automaticly to server/database, that is actual connected (I have opened a file with the connection and a connected database in the object explorer).
Someone do not have this problem - but we found no option to set it up.
I need to switch from MS Access to SQL Server for my database. To set up a development environment I downloaded the free Microsoft SQL Server Express (February CTP version). I installed the required .NET Framework v2, and then SQLExpress. The install was done using all the defaults, and was done successfully. I also downloaded and installed the SQL Express Manager Tool.
The SQL Server was installed on the same machine as my VS.NET development environment. The SQL Server process is now running, and I can connect to the server using the SQL Express Manager Tool. This allows me to view and query the sample databases, but not much else.
To convert my Access .MDB database to SQL Server, I am trying to use the MS Access Upsizing Wizard. The version of Access I am using is Access 2002 on a Windows XP-Professional system. The problem is that Access cannot get a connection to the SQL Server. I tried using the default server name "(local)" and "Use Trusted Connection", but I receive the following error:
Connection failed: SQLState: '01000' SQL Server Error: 2 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver[]Shared Memory]ConnectionOpen (Connect()). Connection failed: SQLState: '08001' SQL Server Error: 17 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver[]Shared Memory]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.
Curiously, I get this exact same error message even if the SQL service is stopped. So I'm pretty sure the problem is that it is not finding the SQL server, and not a security issue.
In order to connect to the SQL server using the SQL Server Manager Tool, you have to provide the actual instance name for the server "COMPNAMESQLExpress". So I tried using this server name in the Access Upsizing Wizard, but this returns the same error message as above except the first SQL Server Error is 53. I also tried using a Login ID and password (using the Windows administrator ID and password, and also the "sa" ID and password) to no avail.
I am at wits end, and can't figure out why Access can't find the SQL Server. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Hi,I am using web matrix, and I am trying to insert a data into a MSDE database. I have used webmatrix to generate the update code, and it is executed when a button is pressed on the web page. but when the code is executed I get the error:Syntax error converting the varchar value 'txtAmountSold.text' to a column of data type int.So I added the following code to try to convert the data, but i am still getting the same error, with txtAmountSold.text replaced with "test"dim test as integer test = Convert.ToInt32(txtAmountSold.text)Here is the whole of the function I am using:Function AddItemToStock() As Integer dim test as integer test = Convert.ToInt32(txtAmountSold.text) Dim connectionString As String = "server='(local)Matrix'; trusted_connection=true; database='HawkinsComputers'" Dim dbConnection As System.Data.IDbConnection = New System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection(connectionString) Dim queryString As String = "INSERT INTO [stock] ([Catagory], [Type], [Name], [Manufacturer], [Price], [Weight"& _ "], [Description], [image], [OnOffer], [OfferPr"& _ "ice], [OfferDescription], [AmountInStock], [AmountOnOrder], [AmountSold]) VALUES ('CatList.SelectedItem.text', 'txtType.text', 'txtname.text', 'txtmanufacturer.text'"& _ ", convert(money,'txtPrice.text'), 'txtWeight.text', 'txtDescription.text', 'txtimage.text', 'txtOnOffer"& _ ".text', convert(money,'txtOfferPrice.text'), 'txtOfferDescrip"& _ "tion.text', 'txtAmountInStock.text', 'txtAmountOnOrder.text', 'test')" Dim dbCommand As System.Data.IDbCommand = New System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand dbCommand.CommandText = queryString dbCommand.Connection = dbConnection Dim rowsAffected As Integer = 0 dbConnection.Open Try rowsAffected = dbCommand.ExecuteNonQuery Finally dbConnection.Close End Try Return rowsAffected End FunctionAny help in solving this problem would be greatly appreciated, as I am really stuck for where to go next.
Forgive me if this question is a bit too generic, if it is, feel free tojust not respond.I have a database which has been running in PostgreSQL for a number ofyears at this stage which I want to port into MS SQL server. It seems that the SQL that Postgre outputs when I do a backup is notsyntactically correct within MS-SQL server. My question is, does anyone have any documentation on how to convert adatabase from the Postgre platform to SQL server? Is it possible usingan ODBC connection to import a database structure including tabledefinitions, views etc into SQL Server?Failing this, does anyone have any suggestions on where I might start -I did attempt to go through the SQL code and modify it to suit SQLserver, but it's about 3,500 lines of code excluding the insertstatements (which themselves are also wrong) and almost every line needssomething changed when comparing SQL syntax from Postgre to MSSQL serverThanks in advance for any comments/suggestions.Engada.--Posted via a free Usenet account from http://www.teranews.com
Hi, I need to take a value from a textbox and insert it into a field in my database which takes decimals. My problem, no matter what I try I cannot convert the value so that the database will accept it. This all happens when the submit button is hit on my webpage. Here is the cmdSubmit_click sub code:
Dim surveyNum As Decimal = Decimal.Parse(txtSurveyNum.Text, Globalization.NumberStyles.Number) myCmd.CommandText = "INSERT INTO survey(ID) VALUES('" & surveyNum & "')" myCmd.Parameters.Add("surveyNum", SqlDbType.Decimal) myCmd.Parameters("surveyNum").Value = System.Convert.ToDecimal(txtSurveyNum.Text)

Hello, I need to perform an update to one of my columns in my gridView. Is it possible to pass in the "column name" during runtime as a parameter to a stored procedure. I tried doing that but it doesn't seem to work? I might be doing something wrong of course. Can anyone give me some advice on how to do this?
