Hi,
I have environment that use SSRS 2005 ad hoc reporting.
One of the users (out of 200) is unable to open or save reports in the report builder.
the user succeed to open the report builder, when he try to save report that he build from shema he get error. as well when he try to open an existing report that build in the report builder he also get an error,
On open the error is:
The numeric portion of 2pt cannot be parsed as a unit of the type point.
The Initilizer for 'Microsoft.ReportingServices.Design.Constants' threw an exception
On Save the error is:
System.IO.StreamReader: Deserialization failed: The type initializer for 'Microsoft.ReportingServices.Design.Constants' threw an exception. Line 2, position 2
Please note that I succeed with second user to create ad hoc report on the first user
computer. I also failed to with the first user to create ad hoc on another computer.
It seems like permissions issue
Thanks,

When I go to open a file in SSMS, the Open File dialog box appears. In the left side of that box, there is a panel containing shortcuts to various locations: Desktop, My Projects, and My Computer. I would like to add some shortcuts to folder that I use in this area, but I haven't been able to figure out how. how to do this?

I had SQl Express version installed previously and everything worked. I could connect to one server running SQL Express and a different server running full up SQL 2005 enterprise version.
I uninstalled All SQL express programs and installed tools from SQL 2005 developer.
I have rebooted, started the program directly (not using a link of any kind) and all attempts fail. After dismissing the error msg the tool opens and I can run queries agains the DB but the database engines and related tables do not show.
My work station is Windows XP with SP2 installed.
I have googled the problem extensively and tried solutions found but none have solved the problem.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi,
I have created a RDL report and successfully deployed it in reporting server. The following code is used to open the Report.
private void Form1_Load(object sender, EventArgs e){
this.reportViewer1.ProcessingMode = Microsoft.Reporting.WinForms.ProcessingMode.Remote;
this.reportViewer1.ServerReport.ReportServerUrl = new Uri("http://localhost/ReportServer");
this.reportViewer1.ServerReport.ReportPath = "/Import Run Reports/ImportRunReport";
Microsoft.Reporting.WinForms.ReportParameter[] param = new Microsoft.Reporting.WinForms.ReportParameter[2];param[0] = new Microsoft.Reporting.WinForms.ReportParameter("RunId", "195900,195904,195711,195707");param[1] = new Microsoft.Reporting.WinForms.ReportParameter("ReportType", "Summary");
reportViewer1.ServerReport.SetParameters(param);
reportViewer1.RefreshReport();
}
Very first time the Report is opening successfully. Once I close the window and again i am trying to open the report i am getting the following error "The underlying connection was closed: A connection that was expected to be kept alive was closed by the server."
Could you Please help me in this regard.

Hi,
In Report Builder(SSRS 2005 sp2), is there a way to automatically save a report the user is working on? The problem is that somtimes a user would be spending a long time working on a new report and the connection would timeout and the user has to start all over again.

We've been opening pdf reports using SOAP for some time now and all of the sudden we're getting errors when the user is on IE6. IE7 is fine.
The error we're getting is from the Acrobat reader is:
"There was an error opening the document. The file cannot be found"
Here's the code that opens the report:
Dim report As Byte() = Nothing
Dim rs As report_engine2.ReportExecutionService = New report_engine2.ReportExecutionService
'credentials
rs.Credentials = New System.Net.NetworkCredential(rs_login, rs_password)
rs.PreAuthenticate = True
Dim reportpath As String = rs_folder & report_name
Dim zoom As String = "False"
Dim deviceInfo As String = Nothing
Select Case format
Case "HTML4.0", "HTML3.2"
deviceInfo = "<DeviceInfo>"
deviceInfo &= "<Toolbar>False</Toolbar>"
deviceInfo &= "<Parameters>False</Parameters>"
deviceInfo &= "<HTMLFragment>True</HTMLFragment>"
deviceInfo &= "<StyleStream>False</StyleStream>"
deviceInfo &= "<Section>0</Section>"
deviceInfo &= "<Zoom>" & zoom & "</Zoom>"
deviceInfo &= "</DeviceInfo>"
Case Else
deviceInfo = "<DeviceInfo></DeviceInfo>"
End Select
'array of parameters
Dim parameters(0) As report_engine2.ParameterValue '0 means one parameter in the report
Dim paramValue As report_engine2.ParameterValue = New report_engine2.ParameterValue
paramValue.Name = param1_name
paramValue.Value = param1_value
parameters(0) = paramValue
'variables for the remaining paramters
Dim historyID As String = Nothing
Dim credentials As report_engine2.DataSourceCredentials = Nothing
Dim showHideToggle As String = Nothing
Dim extension As String = GetExtension(mimeType)
Dim warnings() As report_engine2.Warning = Nothing
Dim reportHistoryParameters() As report_engine2.ParameterValue = Nothing
Dim streamIDS() As String = Nothing
Dim execInfo As New report_engine2.ExecutionInfo
Dim execHeader As New report_engine2.ExecutionHeader
rs.ExecutionHeaderValue = execHeader
execInfo = rs.LoadReport(reportpath, historyID)
rs.SetExecutionParameters(parameters, "en-us")
Try
'execute the report
report = rs.Render(format, deviceInfo, "", mimeType, "", warnings, streamIDS)
'set the filename
Dim fileName As String = savefilename & "." & extension
'write the report back to the response object
response.Clear()
response.ContentType = mimeType
'add the file name to the response if it is not a web browser format.
If mimeType <> "text/html" Then
response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=" & fileName)
End If
'send the byte array containing the report
HttpContext.Current.Response.BinaryWrite(report)
HttpContext.Current.Response.End()
Catch ex As Exception
End Try
This used to work just fine until about a week ago. We're not sure if there was a MS update that caused this behavior. If the user saves the report to a local disk instead of opening it, they can save it successfully and open it later.
Any thoughts on where to go with this one?
Regards

We are about to implement SSRS reports (SQL Server 2012), and have found one issue we don't like. The report looks great when we open it in pdf format. However, when we open it in Excel format, we want it to be the raw data, not look like the pdf report. I tried the simpl headers, and that removed the page header/footer. However, the report format was still in play.In other words, we would like the report when opened in Excel, to look just like it does when we open it as a CSV.I have tried to modify the config file a couple of times. Here is my latest attempt:
Extension Name="CSV" Type="Microsoft.ReportingServices.Rendering.DataRenderer.CsvReport,Microsoft.ReportingServices.DataRendering">
    <OverrideNames>
     <Name Language="en-US">CSV (comma delimited)</Name>
    </OverrideNames>
   </Extension>
   <Extension Name="CSV" Type="Microsoft.ReportingServices.Rendering.DataRenderer.CsvReport,Microsoft.ReportingServices.DataRendering">
    <OverrideNames>
     <Name Language="en-US">Excel (csv)</Name>
    </OverrideNames>
   </Extension>
Essentially I have set Visible = "false" for the Excel type, and tried to duplicate the CSV, changing the name to make it look to the user like it is "Excel". This fails. I checked the event viewer, and I see two entries.. The RSReportServer.config file has been modified. (Information)The value for UrlRoot in RSReportServer.config is not valid. The default value will be used instead.I literally took the file, opened it in Notepad, pasted in my changes, from another notepad window, and tried to run the report. I did not see EITHER of the two names I expected, using the OverrideNames tag. As I said earlier, I was able to affect the outcome, by setting SimpleHeaders to true (or however it is identified). That did work in that the page header and footer was removed.

Hi
I am generating a Report by using SSRS. I am making using use of SSRS Report Viewer control for displaying the report. Which has an option to export the generated report in PDF format. Instead of displaying the report in by using report viewer I want to generate it directly in PDF format whenever that report is selected from the list of reports. So is there is any way to generate the report directly in PDF format which prompt a pop up for opening or saving the PDF?
Thanks,
Shailesh

I have a requirement to display a disclaimer message before going to the content of a particular report. The workflow would be:
go to report folder e.g. Reports/Pages/Folder.aspx?ItemPath=%2fMyFolder%2fReports&ViewMode=ListClick on Report xDisplay DisclaimerPress 'ok' on disclaimerContinue to report
This is SSRS 2012 native.
I had contemplated injecting JavaScript into the report, but this appears virtually impossible to do i a simple manner.

I am trying to create a calendar style report that will have 12 months (as columns) and store opening listing in rows. I have created a matrix, but the problem that I have is that the store opening listing displays in the right period, but they are not in any order. I would like to have the openings always on top, right under the header in the matrix. Now I have them scattered randomly all over the matrix. I tried numerous way of sorting and that does not work.
I am attaching a sample of what I would like to accomplish (months are columns).

Prior to SP2, when you clicked the save button it would take you to the root of Report Server. With SP2 (in old-style Report Manager mode, not Sharepoint integrated mode) it takes you to the /Models directory by default when you click save. Is there a way around this?
If I launch Report Builder via the following URL, it does fix the problem. But it doesn't let me pick table/matrix/chart. I would like to override the default save location AND be able to let the user pick table/matrix/chart:
http://localhost/reportserver/reportbuilder/reportbuilder.application?model=/Models/MyModel&savelocation=
Suggestions?

Hello All,
I am working on constructing a software layer around some features of the RDL language that would allow me to programatically generate reports.
I am reading the RDL specification language, and I do not understand three things:
1) How the DataSet element is populated by the query or more precisely how do the <Field> elements capture all the rows inside the table that is being queries?
To my understanding I wilkl have to define several fields that correspond to all columns of interest in the query.
But that is only for one row (?!) How do the rest of the rows get populated? Does the server recursively create new rows based on my definitions until it matches row for row all the data in the table?
2) Once the elements are inside a DataSet how do make use of that data to render it in a table.
I understand how the DataSource, DataSet, and Table work individually, yet I do not understand how to establish a flow of data between DataSet and Table.
3) Do I even need to use a <Table> as an RDL element in order to organize the data in an excel table?
I would appreciate any help. Thank you!

After connected to Analysis Services and following the path below:
Analysis Service - Databases - Cubes
I create the parameters for a custom report after right click on a specific Cube and select Browse to arrive at a view where i can define dimensions and parameters as well as drag and drop measure to the report rows and columns. The left top File bottom only give me a Save Selection or Save ALL option. However, i'm not sure where it saves it to or if it saves the settings for this custom report at all.
I pull this report monthly and it's a pain to recreate all the parameters. How to save this template for future pulls or maybe even incorporate the pull into excel for monthly refresh instead?

Hello,
I am trying to open a file on a network drive from a report. The file's location that I need to open is stored in the db for each record. I have tried using javascript to open a new window using the File:/// prefix. I have been able to open a new windows and navigate to a URL in this fashion by using a javascript window.open call and placing it in the navigation tab of the textbox. When I try this with a file, however, I get an access denied message. I was thinking to try opening the file by using the System.Diagnostic.Process.Start() method from code, but I'm not sure how to wire that up to the OnClick event of the textbox on the report. Does anyone have any ideas?

We are currently running SQL Reporting Services 2000 and have the ability to open a linked report in either a new window or tab just by right-clicking on the link and selecting from the context menu. We are looking to migrate to SQL Reporting Services 2005 and when you right click on a linked report link, there is no option to open the linked report in either a new window or tab.
So my question is, is there a way to have linked reports open in either a new tab or window in SQL Reporting Services 2005? I searched this forum but all I saw were some round-about ways of accomplishing this using javascript. We have a lot of reports and would like to avoid altering each one to allow the ability to open a linked report in a new tab or window.

Hi all,
I was wondering whether I should just use the URL posting in aspx as below :-
Code Snippet
Response.Redirect("http://Reportserver/virtualfolder/Deployedfoldername/Reportname¶metername=parametervalue")
or Should i just put this in the asp page ?
Code Snippet
<asp:HyperLink ID="HL1" runat="server" Target="_blank" NavigateUrl=http://Reportserver/virtualfolder/Deployedfoldername/Reportname¶metername=parametervalue">Click on Report</asp:HyperLink></div>
I can't really test this out at the moment till i get a go ahead from the IT Department that SSRS is up and running and i can deploy the reports.
I was wondering what would the effects be for each code in their respective pages ?
Would the aspx be able to pop up the report page in a new window automatically ? OR the second piece of code is a better way of doing it ?
Sincerely,
Bernard
