Operand Type Clash Error

Sep 11, 2006

Hello!
I am trying to update a DetailsView but I keep getting the error of Operand type clash: int is incompatible with text. I have double checked the stored procedure but I don't see any obvious offending parameters. ID is the only parameter that is an interger. I am not trying to update the ID at all, just for the filter purposes to update the records.

Operand Type Clash

Dec 21, 2005

I have a stored procedure that works fine on SQL Server 2000 or 2005,but when run on an machine running MSDE, I get the Operand type clash,int is incompatible with text data type error. The data type isactually text and text is the type of data being passed. Anyparameters not being used are defaulted to null. Any ideas why thiswould happen on MSDE and work fine anywhere else?Thanks so much.

Operand Type Clash - Int Is Incompatible With Date

Apr 18, 2013

I'm getting this error when trying to insert data into a table.

"Operand type clash: int is incompatible with date"

This is the SQL I used to create the table:

Code:
CREATE TABLE customers(
customer_id int IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL,
member_yn char(1) NOT NULL,
membership_number int NOT NULL,
date_became_member date NOT NULL,

[Code]....

This is the SQL I am using to add data: (Note that there are two dates in each line, scroll to the side.)

Code:
INSERT INTO customers VALUES ('y', 156, 2010-08-29, 'John', 'Smith', '1235 Main Street, Dunmore, PA 18512', 6963287654, 'jsmith@hotmail.com', 1986-06-23);
INSERT INTO customers VALUES ('y', 159, 04/15/2011, 'Mary', 'Jones', '235 Ardmore Blvd, Pittsburgh, PA 15221', 3429831594, 'jones_mary@gmail.com', 01/12/1992);

Each of the lines above to add data uses a different data format because I tried both, while commenting out the other, hoping for the problem to go away with the change in format.

Here is the SQL code to create a primary key for this table:

Code:
ALTER TABLE customers ADD CONSTRAINT pk_customers PRIMARY KEY (customer_id);

Operand Type Clash: Nvarchar Is Incompatible With Image

Oct 4, 2006

I uploading an image from a web page into Sql Server 2000 database. I call a stored procedure with the parameter @Flag of type Image. When I tried to pass a null value to this parameter I got the error:"Operand type clash: nvarchar is incompatible with image".I was adding the parameter like this:sqlCmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@Flag", DBNull.Value);After trying few different things I found a workaround using the following:sqlCmd.Parameters.Add("@Flag", SqlDbType.Image);sqlCmd.Parameters["@Flag"].Value = DBNull.Value;Possibly a bug in the SqlCommand.Parameters.AddWithValue method ?

Derived Column Transformations - DT_STR Operand Cannot Be Used With The Conditional Operation

Sep 16, 2006

Hi all I am trying to convert the string "(null)" in the [PASSWORD] column of my table to an actual NULL value. I have tried to use two different forms of a conditional operator to achieve this end. However I am getting the below errors both can be summed up with the following statement.

DT_STR operand cannot be used with the conditional operation. The expression directly below however is using a type DT_I4 in the conditional clause as this is what FINDSTRING returns. Hence the equivalencey test to the literal integer 0. So I must say I am somewhat confused by this. Does anyone know why neither of the below statements are working?

Also is there an easy way to accomplish what I am trying to do - convert the string "(null)" in the [PASSWORD] column of my table to an actual NULL value?

FINDSTRING([PASSWORD], "(null)", 1) == 0 ? [PASSWORD] : NULL(DT_STR, 255, 1252)

Error at Administrator Data Flow Task [Derived Column [1985]]: For operands of the conditional operator, the data type DT_STR is supported only for input columns and cast operations. The expression "FINDSTRING(PASSWORD,"(null)",1) == 0 ? PASSWORD : NULL(DT_STR,255,1252)" has a DT_STR operand that is not an input column or the result of a cast, and cannot be used with the conditional operation. To perform this operation, the operand needs to be explicitly cast with a cast operator.

LOWER( TRIM( [PASSWORD] ) ) != "(null)" ? [PASSWORD] : NULL(DT_STR, 255, 1252)

Error at Administrator Data Flow Task [Derived Column [1985]]: For operands of the conditional operator, the data type DT_STR is supported only for input columns and cast operations. I can also run the query commenting out the TransactionDatecolumn and it works fine. But when I have both the conditions in theWHERE clause, it gives me this error. DataTextField="DisplayName" DataValueField="PayrollCompanyID">
</asp:DropDownList>
Then, I use the selectedindexchanged event to bind the data to the datagrid. Here's that code:
 1 Sub BindData()
2
3 Dim ds As New DataSet
4 Dim sda As SqlClient.SqlDataAdapter
5 Dim strSQL As String
6 Dim strCon As String
7
8 strSQL = "SELECT [SocialSecurityNumber], [Prefix], [FirstName], [LastName], [HireDate], [PayrollCostPercent], " & _
9 "[Phone], [BadgeNumber], [IsSupervisor], [SupervisorID], [IsUser], [IsScout] FROM [rsrc_Personnel] " & _
10 "WHERE ([PayrollCompanyID] = @PayrollCompanyID)"
11
12 strCon = "Data Source=DATASOURCE;Initial Catalog=DATABASE;User ID=USERID;Password=PASSWORD"
13
14 sda = New SqlClient.SqlDataAdapter(strSQL, strCon)
15
16 sda.SelectCommand.Parameters.Add(New SqlClient.SqlParameter("@PayrollCompanyID", Me.ddlPayrollCompany.SelectedItem.ToString()))
17
18 sda.Fill(ds, "rsrc_Personnel")
19
20 dgPersonnel.DataSource = ds.Tables("rsrc_Personnel")
21 dgPersonnel.DataBind()
22
23 End Sub
24

I'm assuming my problem lies in line 16 of the above code. I've tried SelectedItemIndex, SelectedItemValue too and get errors for those, as well.
What am I missing?
Thanks for anyone's help!

Design Patterns Research - Dynamic Error Count Manipulation To Determine On What Type Of Error To Stop Job

Jan 31, 2008

I would like to fail a package depending on the error. The package extracts data from Excel files. I would like to continue processing if an Excel file is badly formatted, but stop processing if there is a serious issue. like the file server hosting the Excel files crashed.
I was thinking about dynamically changing the MaxeErrorCount property based on the Error ID or description.

Any ideas on an intelligent/simple way to do this

Error Connecting To SSIS - Error Loading Type Library/DLL

May 20, 2008

Hello,

I recently joined a company that is having an issue connecting to SQL Server Integration Services on one of their production servers. When trying to connect via management studio, both locally and remotely, they receive the error below. The server is a 64 bit server and is using third party replication (Veritas).

It sort of sounds like the issue described in this knowledge base article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/919224. However, we do not have a problem creating maintenance plans. I'd just give it a shot but its a production server and getting approval to do anything that modifies the registry with the registry replication setup is a pain, so I'd like to determine if there could be another cause first.

Data Type Error

Apr 26, 2007

I have created a Foreach Loop container which generates a string variable which is a Select statement that in turn used in my OLE DB source in my Data Flow task. I have a 3 variables that I am using to create the Select statement. Two of them work fine but the 3rd gives me an error "Cannot convert varchar to numeric" after about the 5th or 6th loop which is odd as the variable is the same for each pass.

The SQL Task linked to the Foreach Loop is a query as follows

SELECT DISTINCT

CAST(FYr as varchar(4)) as FYr,

CAST(Acct1 as varchar(13)) as Acct1,

CAST(Acct2 as varchar(13)) as Acct2

FROM GL, AcctTbl

The resulting dataset looks like this (there is only one record in AcctTbl)

FYr Acct1 Acct2

2000 400.00 307.00

2001 400.00 307.00

2002 400.00 307.00

etc, which is exactly what I want.

I've created package scope string variables for sFYr, sAcct1 and sAcct2 as well as another variable qrySQL

The value for qrySQL string variable is something like this

"Select " + @User :: sFYr + " as FiscalYear, Account, " + @User :: sAcct2 + "Amount FROM tblGL WHERE Account < " + @User :: sAcct1

This is then used as my datasourse in my data flow task

When I run the package it goes through a half a dozen iterations ( there are about a dozen total rows to iterate) and successfully writes the results to my data destination table but then fails with the "cannot convert varchar to numeric" message.

It seems to be with the sAcct1 variable because if I use the same string for my qrySQL except I replace the sAcct1 variable with string (as shown below) the package completes successfully

"Select " + @User :: sFYr + " as FiscalYear, Account, " + @User :: sAcct2 + "Amount FROM tblGL WHERE Account < '400.00'

Does anyone have any ideas? Can I not use the < to compare string? The Account field that I'm comparing is a varchar(13) field. I've even tried casting the Account and sAcct1 variable as numeric in the qrySQL string and I'm getting the same failure after several iterations.

Any insight would really be appreciated. I've lost a bit of hair over this one.

Thanks in advance

I am getting the foll error
Arithmetic overflow error for type int value = 4294927696.00000000
i tried convert(bigint,power(2,32)) but no use since conversion will anyway take place only after power is calculated which again gives the same error.
