Running A SSIS Package As A Job Error - With A Connection To An Oracle Database

Oct 10, 2007

Hi,

I have installed MS SQL Server 2005 and Service Pack 2 on a new Windows 32-bit environment. I also installed the 32-bit 10g client (the Administrator option). The tnsnames.ora file is configured properly and I can tnsping to the Oracle database without any issues. I have created a package in Visual Studio and it runs successfully when I execute the job manually. I saved the package to the MS SQL Server and when I log into Management Studio to create a job for this package, I receive the following error:

Message

I have created the package and logged into the server with the same ID to set up the job. And I have set the ProtectionLevel property to "Don't Save Sensitive Data" since I know this has been an issue in the past when I tried automating the job. I've four posts regarding this error message on the MSDN forums that aren't helpful at this moment - I'm hoping that someone will have found a solution since those posts. Any suggestions are welcomed.

Thanks for your help!

UDF Issue, Just Need A Bit Of Clarity

Oct 5, 2007

Given this simple sproc:-

Create proc spGetData
as
select 1 as PrettyDeterministicMeThinks

you cannot do this:

create function fnGetData()
returns @table table (col1 varchar(10))
as
begin

insert into @table exec spGetData --This is my function_body
return
end --you get an "Invalid use of side-effecting or time-dependent operator in 'INSERT EXEC' within a function" error

but you CAN do this

create function fnGetData()
returns @table table (col1 varchar(10))
as
begin

insert into @table select 1 as PrettyDeterministicMeThinks --This is my function_bodyreturn
end

I just wanted to know what the difference was as books online refers to the function body as "a series of Transact-SQL statements that populate a TABLE return variable." which is what I thought I was doing in either case. So my question was really how is this wrong

JDBC Query Running Indefinitely (Connection Missing)

Apr 3, 2007

We see an unusual case where a query seems to be taking a long time (more than 30 minutes) as shown by the Java thread dump (below) - however the SQL server DB does'nt show any corresponding Connection for the query at the lower layer.

The JDBC layer seems to be "in progress" as far as processing the results of the query are concerned. If the Connection was dropped or had a failure we should have seen a corresponding SQLException in the JDBC layer - which is also not the case.

Any tips on how to debug this? Is there a timeout set on the JDBC Connection which causes it to wait before it detects any failures?

thanks

Oracle Error ORA-12154 From An Application Which Never Uses Oracle

Mar 14, 2008

My application which ran perfectly well yesterday suddenly stopped working in this morning with following error message. I didn't change anything, at least I believe. Interesting thing is that I don't use any Oracle connection but connects to MS SQL Server 2005 Express version locally. Error messages are different according to the connection string though I don't think it makes difference:
ConnectionString = <add key="Databasehandtool1" value="Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;Database=handtool;SSPI=true" />ErrorMessage from VS2008 ="Unable to get records. Object reference not set to an instance of an object."
ConnectionString = <add key="Databasehandtool1" value="Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;Database=handtool;User Id=handtool_DB;Password=mypassword" />ErrorMessage from VS2008 =  "Unable to get records. Unable to connect to database. ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified."   By the way, the application was generated from IronSpeed 5.1 Enterprise. My development environment is : VS2008, SQL2005 EXPRESS, Windows XP SP2, ASP.NET 2.0
We have actually an Oracle server in the network though. My gut feeling is that something might have changed in my network server during the night but how come it can possibly affect my application running on my local PC. I checked the connection of local SQL Express Server from SQL Server Management Studio and it connected well with UserID=handtoo_DB and showed all tables and stored procedures required for the application. So there is no problem in SQL Server database side.
I would welcome and appreciate any input.

MS JDBC Driver Incompatibility With JDBC 3.0 Specs

Aug 8, 2006

Hi all,

We've just stumbled on a 1.0 version incompatibility with the JDBC specs.

Problem: A table with SMALLINT column. According to JDBC specs version 3.0

(p.B-179) and 4.0 (p.221)), the value should be converted to Integer type.

Unfortunatelly we get a Short object :(

Now, I remember, this case was also affecting old JSQLConnect driver from

DataDirect. Could that problem sneak to new MS driver too?

Please let me know any resolution to this problem if exists.

The issue has not been fixed in CTP 1.1 version. Any ideas if it can be fixed??

Cheers,

Piotr

Microsoft JDBC Driver - TDS Prelogin Error (?)

Jan 25, 2008

Hi,

Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? My JDBC is erroring. I'm using the Microsoft 1.2 driver, I have a SQL Server 2005 back end with the following clients connecting to it:

ASP.NET 2.0 web application
Visual Studio C# console applications (*2)
Java command line client.

Everything runs hunky-dory on my dev. environment (laptop, local, launched via Visual Studio) but now it's on the server, the Java client is erroring.

When I use the 1.2 sqljdbc.jar file, I get:

25-Jan-2008 12:20:29 com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerConnection Prelogin
WARNING: ConnectionID:1 TransactionID:0x0000000000000000 Prelogin response packet not marked as a REPLY

My Error Trap:
--------------
SQL STATE : 08S01
ERROR CODE: 0
MESSAGE : The TDS protocol stream is not valid.

When I use the 1.1 file I get:

My Error Trap:
--------------
SQL STATE : 08S01
ERROR CODE: 0
MESSAGE : The TDS prelogin response is incomplete. The target server must be SQL Server 2000 or later.

I don't know what these errors mean. I've tried compiling as java 1.5 and 1.6 with the same results. It works fine on my laptop (Vista Home Premium) but won't when I try and connect to the server. I've searched the web on the error messages and can't find an answer yet.

Any help appreciated.

My drivers are the Windows versions. Also, everything else is working okay on the server: The consoles are up and running and the web browser connects and SELECTs, UPDATEs & INSERTs okay.
I ought to mention: My laptop is running SQL Server Development edition and the Server is running obviously something else.

My SQL Server version is 9.0.1399 and the OS is Windows Server 2003. SQL Authentication is mixed mode.

JDBC Driver SetMaxRows Documentation Error

Feb 1, 2007

The javadoc for statement.setMaxRows(maxROWS) reads:

"Sets the limit for the maximum number of rows that any ResultSet
object can contain to the given number. If the limit is exceeded, the excess
rows are silently dropped."

In fact, it seems that the driver calls set rowcount MAXROWS on the connection.

While this superficially will work, if your query manipulates records sets that exceed MAXROWS, the subqueries will also be limited in their size. And this is not what you expect. The javadocs suggest that it is only the result that is truncated. Silently.

It seems that setFetchSize is more appropriate.

I am using a relatively recent jar (248KB).

I hope that somebody finds this useful and that the development team will adjust the javadocs or the behavior.

Other than that, thanks for a great driver! ;-)

GetDate() Throws Error With MS JDBC Driver V1.2

Oct 24, 2007

Hi,

I have a small program to query a stored procedure in SQL Server 2000 and print out the contents of a returned date field. The program is as follows:

Class.forName("com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver");
String connectionUrl = "jdbcqlserver://host:1433;database=db;user=u1;password=p1";
Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection(connectionUrl);
CallableStatement cbstmt = con.prepareCall(" {call stored_proc (?,?)}");

cbstmt.setString(1, "value1");
cbstmt.setString(2, "value2");
ResultSet resultSet = cbstmt.executeQuery();

while (resultSet.next()) {
System.out.println(resultSet.getDate("end_date"));
}

The date field is nullable, and the records in the database are currently null. But when I run this program, I get the following exception when using version 1.2 of the MS JDBC Driver:

com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerException: The conversion from int to DATE is unsupported.

at com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerResultSet.getDate(Unknown Source)
at com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerResultSet.getDate(Unknown Source)
at jdbc.main(jdbc.java:38)
Exception in thread "main"

This started happening when we upgraded to the new driver. Any ideas why?

Thanks.

Unexpected Error With JDBC SQL Server 2000 Connectivity

Sep 3, 2007

Hi,
We are running one shopping site for our organisation, which includes Tomcat 5.0.28 , IIS & SQL Server 2000 SP3 hosted on platform Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Ed. , we are running jsp pages server side and site is hosted on internet,
but it is observed that after every 1/2 days , page will throw following exception, and site get blocked.

javax.servlet.ServletException: Network error IOException: No buffer space available (maximum connections reached?) : connect

Can anybody help please?

I am beginner with JDBC - SQL Server Connectivity ,

I am giving our configuration details:

Driver Used - Microsoft SQL Server Driver 2000 SP3

Protocol Used - TCP/IP which open socket connection on default port 1433

Authentication - Mix Mode Authetication ( using sa account login)

Even setting done within LOCAL instance running on server to allow max. connections i.e 32767

My observation is that some kind of virus threat may causing this error, because if server will be rebooted, we doesn't

get any error and everything works fine.

Waiting for your suggestions and advise.

Thanks a lot.

Regards,

Mandar Velankar

Feb 22, 2006

We are in the process of configuring a j2ee application with SQL Server 2005. We have downloaded the new version of SQL Server 2005 Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) Driver 1.0.

We are having some issues in getting it to work using the XA datasource. Description of the error is as follows:

at com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerXAResource.start(Unknown Source)

Has anyone else has encountered this and possibly found a solution.

I can start a new transaction, access SQLServer from within the transaction, but when committing, there is the following XAException from SQLServer:
16:04:20,926 INFO [STDOUT] javax.transaction.xa.XAException: java.sql.SQLException: COMMIT: Status:0 msg:*** SQLJDBC_XA DTC_ERROR Context: xa_commit, state=1, StatusCode:-4 (0xFFFFFFFC) ***16:04:20,926 INFO [STDOUT] at com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerXAResource.commit(Unknown Source)16:04:20,941 INFO [STDOUT] at org.jboss.resource.adapter.jdbc.xa.XAManagedConnection.commit(XAManagedConnection.java:176)16:04:20,941 INFO [STDOUT] at com.arjuna.ats.internal.jta.resources.arjunacore.XAResourceRecord.topLevelOnePhaseCommit(XAResourceRecord.java:641)16:04:20,941 INFO [STDOUT] at com.arjuna.ats.arjuna.coordinator.BasicAction.onePhaseCommit(BasicAction.java:2619)16:04:20,941 INFO [STDOUT] at com.arjuna.ats.arjuna.coordinator.BasicAction.End(BasicAction.java:1779)
[...]

The system is running on Windows Server 2003 64bit with SQLServer 2005 64bit, and JBoss running on JDK 1.5.0 (32bit)
Can anyone tell me what this message indicates?

Regards,
Martin

2000 JDBC Vs 2005 JDBC

Mar 12, 2008

I've got an import app written in Java. One table I'm importing from contains 22 million records. When I run the app in a 2000 environment, I have my max heap set at 512, and the table gets imported. When I run in a 2005 environment, I have to change the max heap to 1152 or it will error out with a similiar error:

com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerException: The system is out of memory. Use server side cursors for large result sets:Java heap space. Result set size:854,269,999. JVM total memory size:1,065,484,288. (<--this is with max heap at 1024)

what is the difference between the 2000 and 2005 JDBC that I have to set max heap in one and not the other?

Error Running Child Packages From Parent Package - Error 0xC0011008

Mar 31, 2008

Hey...

I am running a parent SSIS package (running sp2, 9.0.3042) that calls several child packages.

On our development server, we now cannot run this because we get 1 or more of these errors:

"Error 0x80004003 while preparing to load the package. Invalid pointer . "
"Error 0xC0011008 while preparing to load the package. Error loading from XML. No further detailed error information can be specified for this problem because no Events object was passed where detailed error information can be stored. . "

It is not occuring on the same packages. It varies every time it is run.

I can run every one of the child packages individually, using the same login ID that the parent is executed under.

The parent package works fine on my local machine and other servers running the same version of SSIS. Just not on this server.

Does anyone have any ideas???

Thanks

BobP

Error Running SP From ADO 2.6 And VB6 - Command.execute Error

Aug 9, 2006

Hi there

I have small problem with the ADO 2.6 - 2.8 Command object.

I created a Stored procedure preforming some tasks within a tran.

whitin the tran i'm collecting the @@ERROR values and in the end (after tran closing )generating the correct error string - which will be send back to the caller

in the VB6 app, i'm using a command object with the next line:

Set MyRecordset= MyCommand.Execute

In all the cases and option, when i run the SP - the command preform the tasks and return closed recordset (with the currect answer) and i can't read it.

the only solution that worked until now: i need to call MyRecordset.Open which will requery the SP again and generate an error (User defined error).

It happens only when i run command.execute with SP that preforms multitasks and return result recordset.

CAN ANY ONE HELP ME
