My application which ran perfectly well yesterday suddenly stopped working in this morning with following error message. I didn't change anything, at least I believe. Interesting thing is that I don't use any Oracle connection but connects to MS SQL Server 2005 Express version locally. Error messages are different according to the connection string though I don't think it makes difference:
ConnectionString = <add key="Databasehandtool1" value="Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;Database=handtool;SSPI=true" />ErrorMessage from VS2008 ="Unable to get records. Object reference not set to an instance of an object."
ConnectionString = <add key="Databasehandtool1" value="Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;Database=handtool;User Id=handtool_DB;Password=mypassword" />ErrorMessage from VS2008 = "Unable to get records. Unable to connect to database. ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified." By the way, the application was generated from IronSpeed 5.1 Enterprise. My development environment is : VS2008, SQL2005 EXPRESS, Windows XP SP2, ASP.NET 2.0
We have actually an Oracle server in the network though. My gut feeling is that something might have changed in my network server during the night but how come it can possibly affect my application running on my local PC. I checked the connection of local SQL Express Server from SQL Server Management Studio and it connected well with UserID=handtoo_DB and showed all tables and stored procedures required for the application. So there is no problem in SQL Server database side.
I would welcome and appreciate any input.

Hi,
I am using a Oracle database to connect to and generate reports from it. Intermittently, the report after running for sometime raises the oracle error
ORA-12842: Cursor invalidated during parallel execution, which I read could possibly be due to DDL on a schema object and shared pool being flushed. Rerunning again, the report runs fine.
How can this be resolved. Any suggestions/tips are appreciated.
Thanks,

the same UPDATE OPENQUERY works on SQL Server 2000 using the Oracle 9 client. The provider is configured with Inprocess turned on. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,
I have a Oracle query which runs fine at Oracle side(through TOAD or Oracle Client).
I am using sysdate+1 in my query to get the next date.
Now I am using same query in RS using Oracle Client which returns error "ORA-00932:Inconsistent datatypes.Expected DATE got NUMBER".
Basically the driver is unable to interpret to add 1(Number) to the Sysdate(Date) field.
Any suggestions/ideas are greatly appreciated.

Hello All
I was trying to configure my package. I have a Oracle 10g DB as source. I used "Oracle provider for OLE Db" as provider in connection manager. I entered user name and password.
When I set my package protection level to : DontSaveSensitive and executed the package
it gives me this error:
[Connection manager "WDEV.wuser1"] Error: An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80004005. An OLE DB record is available. Source: "OraOLEDB" Hresult: 0x80004005 Description: "ORA-01005: null password given; logon denied".
When i go back to connection manager I see the blank password. I retype it but again when I execute I get the above error.
I configured the package with same setting and in the config file I mentioned the passwords and all details but again I when I execute the package i get the below error:
[Connection manager "WDEV.wuser1"] Error: An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E21. An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft OLE DB Service Components" Hresult: 0x80040E21 Description: "Multiple-step OLE DB operation generated errors. Check each OLE DB status value, if available. No work was done.".
Since it was not storing password OR not executing without password I set the Protection Level to : "EncryptAllWithPassword"
and excute it I works Great. and runs Awesome. Except I get this Warning
[OLE DB Source [1]] Warning: Cannot retrieve the column code page info from the OLE DB provider. If the component supports the "DefaultCodePage" property, the code page from that property will be used. Change the value of the property if the current string code page values are incorrect. If the component does not support the property, the code page from the component's locale ID will be used.
Question 1: "CAN I IGNORE THIS WARNING?'
Question2: "THE PACKAGE RUNS GOOD WHEN I SET THE PROTECTIONLEVEL =EncryptAllWithPassword. With this settings when i configure my package it gives me error. Why is it so Any Help please Below plz find the config file?"
[OLE DB Source [1]] Error: The AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager "WDEV.wuser1" failed with error code 0xC0202009.

Hi,
I was trying to connect to Oracle Source in SSIS
1. Err: Test connection failed because of an error in initializing provider. Oracle Client and networking components were not found
Sol: I installeed the Oracle Client tools
2. Err: ORA -12154: TNS: Could not resolve teh connect identifier specified
Sol: Then I point out the TNS file
3. Now I coonect the Oracle db . I go to Connection Manager . Specifies the provide as: Native OLE DB Oracle Provide for OLE DB, Select my DB, provide teh user name and password. and check if the connection passed.
Then in my data Flow Task when I add this source and check the Colmns its gives me an error./ sort of warning
The component reported the following warnings:
Warning at {C947B.......} [Ole DB Source[1]]: Cannot retrieve the column code page info from the OLE DB provider. if the components supports teh "DefaultCodePage" property, the code page from that property will be used.....
Will this warning has an significance. i dont see any error in my output data. but is there something I m doing wrong.
4. When I set my ProtectionLevel under Security in package property to "Dont Save Sensitive" in order to easily configure the package I m getting this error: failed Validation. The default one was EncryptSensitiveWithUserKey then its running smoothly.
Can somebody advice me on this?
I addded the all the errors and solution for 1 and 2 becuase in that way this will be helpful in future.

I've searched forums and found responses from 2006 forward, but none that I'd find satisfactory, so if anyone can help, I'd appreciate it.
I'm using SQL have SQL Server Reporting Services 2005 SP2. I've successfully used SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio to create reports and charts from data stored in an Oracle 10g database.
I have a distributed team and while I'm creating the official reports, I need them to be able to utilize the Report Builder to create their own reports for day to day management of their own activities.
I created a Data Source and a Data Source View successfully. When I tried to utilize the Report Model Wizard to create a report model the builder can use, I get an error.
ORA-02179: valid options: ISOLATION LEVEL { SERIALIZABLE | READ COMMITTED }
I've read that this was ''fixed" with SP2. I've also read that there are work-arounds (which I don't necessarily understand). However, I've read plenty of MS documentation that says that this should work.
Can anyone provide any clarity around where my problem lies and how I might mitigate?
Thanks in advance,

While upgrading several packages from DTS 2000 to SSIS I came across a couple of packages where the source data comes from an Oracle DB. Until now I have not migrated data from an Oracle source.
When I tried to create a new connection I got the error:
"System.Data.Oracle client requires Oracle client software version 8.1.7 or greater."
This is being developed on a machine that would not have any oracle drivers before now, so I THOUGHT it would be as simple as downloading the drivers, but the resolution seems to be much more complex than that. When I researched it, it appeared that I needed to download the Oracle 9i software. The installation is about 10 GB and this seemed like overkill to just be able to connect to a database.
Is this in fact the correct solution? If so, or even if not, can I get a quick run down of the steps involved, and anyone's experience (problems, etc..) on the topic?

I've been searching around for a while now and slowly been making progress but I've finally hit a road block and I'm wondering if anyone else has ever gotten this to work. I'm using SS SP2 and the Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle.
I have a lookup task in the data flow. The lookup table is in Oracle and it works fine as long as I don't check the "Enable Memory Restriction" box on the Advanced tab. As soon as that box is checked, the task will throw an error when I try to run it. I need to check it though to get to the Modify SQL Statement.
Here is what I do:
Create new Lookup task
Set the Oracle OLE DB connection
Use the following SQL for the reference table source:
SELECT COST_CENTER_ID, COST_CENTER_NB, start_dt, end_dt,
decode(SIGN(TO_NUMBER(TO_CHAR(START_DT,'MM'))-9),-1, TO_CHAR(START_DT,'YYYY'),
0, TO_CHAR(START_DT,'YYYY'),
1, TO_CHAR(START_DT + 365,'YYYY')
) START_FY,
decode(SIGN(TO_NUMBER(TO_CHAR(END_DT,'MM'))-9), NULL,
decode(SIGN(TO_NUMBER(TO_CHAR(SYSDATE,'MM'))-9),
-1, TO_CHAR(SYSDATE,'YYYY'),
0, TO_CHAR(SYSDATE,'YYYY'),
1, TO_CHAR(SYSDATE + 365,'YYYY')
),
-1, TO_CHAR(END_DT,'YYYY'),
0, TO_CHAR(END_DT,'YYYY'),
1, TO_CHAR(END_DT + 365,'YYYY')
) END_FY
FROM DIM_COST_CENTER
Then I go to the columns page and connect 1 field from the input column to the lookup column. Then click ok and it runs fine.
However, now I go to the advanced page and click the Enable Memory Restriction (at this point is where the problem occurs). As soon as the memory restriction is checked, the thing throws errors:
[Lookup [4732]] Error: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E14. An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle" Hresult: 0x80040E14 Description: "ORA-00933: SQL command not properly ended ".
Then if I go in and Modify the SQL Statement into the Oracle syntax by removing the word AS and the [ ]'s it will get a new error:
select * from
(SELECT COST_CENTER_ID, COST_CENTER_NB, start_dt, end_dt,
decode(SIGN(TO_NUMBER(TO_CHAR(START_DT,'MM'))-9),-1, TO_CHAR(START_DT,'YYYY'),
0, TO_CHAR(START_DT,'YYYY'),
1, TO_CHAR(START_DT + 365,'YYYY')
) START_FY,
decode(SIGN(TO_NUMBER(TO_CHAR(END_DT,'MM'))-9), NULL,
decode(SIGN(TO_NUMBER(TO_CHAR(SYSDATE,'MM'))-9),
-1, TO_CHAR(SYSDATE,'YYYY'),
0, TO_CHAR(SYSDATE,'YYYY'),
1, TO_CHAR(SYSDATE + 365,'YYYY')
),
-1, TO_CHAR(END_DT,'YYYY'),
0, TO_CHAR(END_DT,'YYYY'),
1, TO_CHAR(END_DT + 365,'YYYY')
) END_FY
FROM DIM_COST_CENTER) refTable
where refTable.COST_CENTER_NB = ?
Now when running I get the error:
[Lookup [4732]] Error: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E5D. An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle" Hresult: 0x80040E5D Description: "Parameter name is unrecognized.".
Followed by:
[Lookup [4732]] Error: OLE DB error occurred while binding parameters. Check SQLCommand and SqlCommandParam properties.
This is where I get stuck. I've gone into the XML and looked through everything and it all seems to match up in terms of variables lineage ID's and such, but I can't see any place to set the parameter name, which should be 0 since it is OLE DB. When I click the Enable Memory Restriction, the only difference I can notice in the XML is that the cachetype line changes from 0 to 2.
<property id="4738" name="CacheType" dataType="System.Int32" state="default" isArray="false" description="Specifies the cache type of the lookup table." typeConverter="CacheType" UITypeEditor="" containsID="false" expressionType="None">2</property>
Has anyone ever got parameters to work with Oracle and a lookup? Any work arounds? I have used a Merge Join with Conditional Split successfully, but I have about 5 other lookups that have to be done and it will be a killer and lots of work to try and re-sort for each merge join and conditional splits for each of them. Looking for any help with making the lookup work or some nicer work arounds.
Thanks.

Hi,
I have installed MS SQL Server 2005 and Service Pack 2 on a new Windows 32-bit environment. I also installed the 32-bit 10g client (the Administrator option). The tnsnames.ora file is configured properly and I can tnsping to the Oracle database without any issues. I have created a package in Visual Studio and it runs successfully when I execute the job manually. I saved the package to the MS SQL Server and when I log into Management Studio to create a job for this package, I receive the following error:

Hello.
I'm trying to put in an SQL server database some data extracted from Oracle Server 9i.
During the load process, the "OLE DB Destination" in the task chokes up when it finds a record containing the date '0197-01-01 00:00:00' (i got this by putting the error output to a column of type varchar(50)). I can't use the Condicional Split's date functions to filter this out because they also choke on the strange date.
Can anyone give a sugestion?
Thanks in advance,

I am receiving the following error message when trying to create a new Oracle Publisher.
Msg 21684, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_ORACheckAdminPrivileges, Line 136
The permissions associated with the administrator login for Oracle publisher 'NT02' are not sufficient.
We have added the following permissions manually (not through a role) in Oracle:
CREATE PUBLIC SYNONYM and DROP PUBLIC SYNONYM
CREATE PROCEDURE
CREATE SEQUENCE
CREATE SESSION
CREATE ANY TRIGGER.
CREATE TABLE
CREATE VIEW
And we have also tried the Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server<InstanceName>MSSQLInstalloracleadmin.sql script.
In both cases we are receiving the error message above. The only way we seem to be able to get around the error is to grant the DBA role to the replication schema user, which doesn't seem right.
Has anybody run into this problem before? How did you get around the problem?
Also is there a way to view sp_ORACheckAdminPrivileges because it's doesn't seem to be viewable anywhere in the database? This would at least let us know what it's looking for from an Oracle standpoint.
Help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi,
I have developed reports for Oracle database. I wanted to avoid use of OUT REF cursor hence am using function & calling it from reports.
The logic in SP/function is so complex that it takes 5 mins to execute n get the result. I see the results on the report server, But when I call that report from web application, I get System.Net.WebException - Time out error.
My questions:
1. What setting I make on report server to avoid timeout?
--Are these settings applied on report server restart?
2. Is there any setting needed for Datasource also?
TIA

Hi All:
I have a SSIS which have a main connection to a SQL Server 2005 DB, and also another connection to a Oracle database, and fetch data from the Oracle db.
I have the 2 connection managers, and everything runs fine when I test it in dev studio.
However, once I imported it to the DB, and run it on command line, I get the "Class not registered" error.
Log file as follows:
C:>dtexec /DTS "MSDB ST1INST101CRDA_D_GIM_CONN_TEST" /SERVER crpnycmsq34q /CONNECTION "CRD_CM";""Data Source=crpnycmsq34qST1INST101;Initial Catalog=CRD;Provider=SQLNCLI.1;Integrated Security=SSPI;"" /MAXCONCURRENT " -1 " /CHECKPOINTING OFF /REPORTING V

I DID TRIED MY BEST to search before posting, and most of them are having problem with 32 bit and 64 bit executions.
However, in my case, both are 32 bit (as shown in the log file).
In the above test, I'm setting DoNotSaveSensitiveData, and then fetch it with package configuration.
To make sure the package configuration is not creating pblm for me, I also tried to hardcode everything in the package, and then encrypt the whole ssis with password, and run the package with the /DECRYPT option, so that everything is already intact.
But I still get the same error. Log file as follows.

In MS Visual Studio, when creating a new Report Model Project, after defining a datasource to an Oracle database (and successfully testing it), and a simple datasource view (1 table), when I click "Run" in Report Model Wizard, I receive the following error:
"ORA-02179: valid options: ISOLATION LEVEL { SERIALIZABLE | READ COMMITTED }"
It does not appear that one can create Report Models from an Oracle database (since the SQL being used to query the Oracle database cannot be edited and contains syntax errors?). Is this the case?
Thank you.

Hello all.
I upgraded a SQL 2000 installation to SQL 2005 this past weekend. Minimal issues overall, but one that did crop up relates to a linked server to an Oracle database. The linked server worked before the upgrade, and stopped working immediately after.
We're running on Windows 2003 x64, latest service pack. The linked server is set up using the MSDAORA provider. The error I'm getting post-upgrade is:
=====================
OLE DB provider "MSDAORA" for linked server "PROD" returned message "ORA-06413: Connection not open.".
Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Procedure RDM_GET_REP_LIST_SP, Line 12
Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "MSDAORA" for linked server "PROD".
=====================
A tnsping from the server works fine. I've also tried recreating the linked server. Any help would be appreciated. Let me know what other information would be useful.
Thanks,
Adam

We have recently migrated from SQL 2000 (32bit) to SQL 2005 on Win2003 (both are 64bit). And we have Legacy DTS packages on SQL 2005, some packages are pulling records from Oracle 10g (32bit server). When I execute the DTS package I am getting following error.
Error = -2147467259 (80004005) Error string: Oracle client and networking components were not found. These components are supplied by Oracle Corporation and are part of the Oracle Version 7.3.3 or later client software installation. Provider is unable to function until these components are installed. Error source: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle
Did I need to install/update any MS OLE DB driver for Orace.
Some blogs & forums suggesting to install Oracle 10g Client. If so Which version of Oracle client(32bit/64bit) I have to install?.
Thanks.
Dhans
