I have DFTs with around 50 components and future ETLs will have 100+ components in DFTs.
I was wondering that is there anyway to group components like we have #region in C#.
After installing the DTS 2000 designer components from the feature packI get the following error message when trying to open a package:
----------
SQL Server 2000 DTS Designer components are required to edit DTS packages. Install the special Web download, "SQL Server 2000 DTS Designer Components" to use this feature. (Microsoft.SqlServer.DtsObjectExplorerUI)
---------
The thing is that I have installed them!! so what's going on here, is there a registry key I need to remove or something?, I've uninstalled and re-installed them, rebooted the server numerous times but still no joy, SQL Server just tells me that they're not installed, as you can imagine this is a real pain as I cannot do anything with my legacy packages on the 2005 server.
I cannot just migrate the packages from my 2000 server as they are in daily use on a production server. Is there an option to migrate/copy packages but leave the source packages untouched?
I kept getting DTS packages edit message before upgrading my DB from Upgrade advisor, even though I don't have any DTS package. Would someone help on how to Retain or restore the DTS Designer by obtaining and installing the special Web download of SQL Server 2000 DTS Designer Components?
Hi, I learned this from one of SSIS book-Migrating from Data Transformation Services to Integration Services in SQL.
For the design time components, Microsoft has created a special distribution called the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 DTS Designer Components. The Designer Components distribution replaces the components that get uninstalled when you upgrade your last instance of SQL Server 2000. If you want to upgrade all your SQL Server 2000 instances, this is the best and only option for recovering the DTS designer.
Is anybody heard of this 2005 DTS Designer component? Where to download? How it works? Any experience to will be appreciated.
After Having installed the SQL Server 2000 DTS Designer Components necessary to edit legacy DTS packages on 2005 server, I keep getting the following message when trying to open SQL Server 200 Enterprise Manager:
"The procedure entry point ?ProcessExecute@@YAXPAUHWND_@@PBG1@Z could not be located in teh dynamic link library SEMSFC.dll."
Is there a way to fix so that I can open Enterprise manager?
Microsoft SQL Server 2000 DTS Designer Components has cause a total destruction of my Enterprise Manager.
In my workstation I've got Sql Server 2000 client and Sql Server 2005 client. Everything goes fine up to here. But when I've installed that MSI I have not been able to open my Enterprise Manager.
From MMC appears: Error initializing component CLSID: {xxx.xxx}
My goal was be able to open 2000 stuff from Sql Management Studio. By the moment, I'm forget of that.
Is there a X64 version of Microsoft SQL Server 2000 DTS Designer Components from Feature pack for SQL Server 2005?
I have installed an X86 version on the AMD64 machine. But when I open a sql 2000 dts package, there is always a warning window.
The Message is as follows:
SQL Server 2000 DTS Designer components are required to edit DTS packages. Install the special Web download, "SQL Server 2000 DTS Designer Components" to use this feature. (Microsoft.SqlServer.DtsObjectExplorerUI)
at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.ObjectExplorerUI.LegacyActionBase.CreateLegacyDesigner() at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.ObjectExplorerUI.OpenLegacyPackageAction.Act(INodeInformation nodeInfo) at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.ObjectExplorerUI.DtsServerMenuItem.Invoke(INodeInformation parent, String mode, String assembly, String type)
There are two same assemblys called 'Microsoft.SqlServer.DtsObjectExplorerUI' in the GAC, and one is GAC cache type, the other is zap cache type.
Everything I've read says that custom data flow components are built by inheriting from the Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.PipelineComponent class.
But the stock components such as the Derived Column data flow transformation must each be implemented by their own class. So how do I base my custom components on those classes? The documentation for the PipelineComponent class doesn't list any such subclasses.
In another thread Jamie Thomson very informatively said "The components in SSIS are deliberately atomic (i.e. they do something very specific) so that its easy to put them together to build something greater than the sum of the parts". Which does make a lot of sense. However, I've been finding that I end up having to create exactly the same "pattern" of combined transform components again and again in order to solve the same problem but in different dataflows (or even within the same dataflow). Cut-and-paste-tastic! In order to obtain real re-use, it seems to me like SSIS is crying out for an easy way to create new components by using composition - i.e. the ability to take commonly-used combinations of existing components and create new "super" components (without having to write Custom Transform Components in C#/VB.Net and handle everything in code).
Does anyone know if this sort of functionality is likely to make it into SSIS in the forseeable future?
This is more a informational question. Until now we had over 50 reports ready in our system, we are almost ready to go into production and are starting to link all reports with eachohter. The first problem was that we had them all nicely grouped in different projects so that we could publish in a logical folder-tree. Problem is that we can't jump to reports that are nog in the same folder. Going by url changes the layout and parts of the report manager are gone.
We then started to have a look at Sharepoint but i can't find books on the topic SharePoint & SSRS that describes the possible options. I've seen quite some documents and ways to publish reports but until now we prefer to mail the periodical reports to the users with data-driven subscriptions.
So at this moment we don't know quite wha direction to take. Putting all reports in one folder would solve many linking problems but makes it quite messy for the users.... And the linking issue is a must. As we now will start to create our dashboards with SSRS too.
So, any suggestions on what road to take or what publications to read are welcome.

These don€™t have this column information Some common information for all 3 certificates like NOTE,€¦
How to organize the above information in SQLServer tables. how to apply the normalization . I can store all the contact information in one table and put the SSN as primary key. How to organize the certificates into tables? I have to made 3 tables for 3 certificates and linked to contact information table?
I'm very new to SQL, so you'll have to excuse the nubishness of this question. I've got my trusty O'Reilly book here!
We're using Microsoft SQL Server 2005 on our web server. I'm currently working on a project to get a few MS Access Databases available on the web page.
The web part is actually working fine, with the DBs exported into SQL for performance reasons. (From what I've read pulling data from the .mdb file could cause me problems in the future, so I'm tossing it all onto the SQL server from the start.)
Before I get into the project full-tilt, though, I'm curious about how best to organize all the data?
I'm using the Upsizing Wizard in Access for the conversions, and every new DB gets added under Databases. If this gets approved I may be looking at well over a hundred DBs which will eventually be converted and made web accessible.
I can keep everything neat and tidy on the web server by just tossing things in a few directories, but the menu on the SQL Server Management Studio is going to become a mess really quickly if I let it just keep adding to +Databases.
Is there a way to sort everything into a series of folder/groups, like how System Databases has it?
I am in starting phase of a data conversion project. As my ETL target, I have to produce around 70 flat files. I am creating one package for each target file. Some target files may be a result of 2-3 packages. I have some common packages that get called from many other packages.
Before my solution tree grows into unmanageable state, I would like packages to get organized based on their target and purpose of the package. The ideal solution to this problem would be to organize packages in a folder structure but I couldn€™t see any option to create folders in a solution. I also noticed that we can€™t easily put package files next to each other even after renaming packages.
I was wondering is there a better or any way to organize packages in solution tree?
Greetings,I have one table, named Article, and one table name Category. The problem is, one Article could be in just one or in several categories. What is the best way to connect data between Article and Category according to fast search performance?I have several ideas:1. To have third cross table Article_Category with fields Article_ID and Category_ID, and search Article_Category table 2. To have several INTEGER columns in Article table (like Category_ID1, Category_ID2,..) and search those columns3. Add one VARCHAR field in Article table where I could write Category ID's delimited by some character (e.g. by comma), and do text search in only that column. What is recommended for solving problems like this?

Is there any way in which I could distinguish a group of Database users from the other users. Say for e.g. store the Database users hierarchically, etc. Adding a Prefix/Suffix to the user name as a distinguish-er will not work in my case. I want to restrict the deletion of these Database users. Even the login with sysadmin or serveradmin rights should not be able to DROP those Database users.

I have a job that contains a step to run a DTS task (DTSRUN /S.....etc.) via a batch file.
I can run either the DTSRUN command line, or the batch file that contains it just fine, but when I try to run the job, it reports success but does not actually do the work.
I dont get an error message. I am using the sa account to run the DTS task from the command line.
I know this must be a permissions issue. As I am working at a Defense contractor, I cannot get a domain admin account to run SQL Agent.
Can any one give me brief useful explanations or guide me to a usefulresource of what Development Tools component and Profiler are?Is there anything I should be aware of if I want to install ClientConnectivity component (don't want to overwrite anything)?Thank you in advance.
I am not sure why when the packages are run, the components dissapear. The only thing I see is the result in the output. So there is no visual on the tabs. Thanks
I was trying subscription, but an error occured: "Microsoft Server Management Studio is un able to accessreplication components because replication is not installed on this instance.
I went to change, located my setup exe, installed. but at the end, I get this message: No selected features can be installed or upgraded. Setup cannot proceed since no effective change is being made to the machine......
I downloaded the Express edition via MSDN download.
May somebody please help? What wrong did I do? What did I miss to do?

I'm having a problem with problems with some custom components I built. I have a custom Connection Manager and Data Flow Source that I have built.
My local PC is 64-bit, but I followed the MS instructions on building and deploying custom components. They run fine inside of VS2005, as long as I have 'Run64BitRuntime" set to 'False'. When I try to run packages using the custom components in 64-bit mode, I get:
Error: 0xC0014005 at : The connection type "<MyConnectionManagerType>" specified for connection manager "PRI" is not recognized as a valid connection manager type. This error is returned when an attempt is made to create a connection manager for an unknown connection type. Check the spelling in the connection type name.
I suspect I need to either change the way I build or deploy the custom components. Can someone shed some light on this?
I have installed SQL Server 2005 but Integration Services is just not there. I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times and in the process uninstalled an old version of Visual Studio.NET (manually because it wouldn't uninstall automatically) and Visual Web Developer, just in case they were interfering with Integration Services. No luck, in fact it got worse, now Analysis Services also does not work because it can't find devenv.exe!
I have installed exactly this same software on another clean PC (ie. no previous Visual Studio variants on it) and it installs perfectly.
There seems to be some kind of clash between old versions of Visual Studio and SQL Server 2005 that prevents SQL Server from properly installing products like Integration Services that use the Visual Studio interface (ie. devenv.exe).
I now can't even reinstall the old version of Visual Studio.NET, and devenv.exe is nowhere to be found on my PC although it is referenced throughout the registry.
Has anyone got any suggestions, all I am after if a full and clean install of SQL Server 2005 so I can develop against it using Visual Web Developer.
I have been trying to create, then call an activeX object. I use sp_OAcreate and then sp_OAmethod to create the object, the call the method within. I have registered the DLL but I can not get it to work. I used the examples within T-SQL help but it doesn't seem to work. I am calling from within a sp within the northwind db. I need to pass 4 parms to the method. Here is the proc.

I have a Windows XP machine that I have run SQL Server on in the past.I recently re-formatted the hard drive and re-installed XP from scratch, and now when I try to re-install SQL Server 2000, I get an error messagesaying that the "server component is not supported on this operatingsystem. Only client components will be available for installation." Ihave a hard time understanding why the server components can't beinstalled on XP, especially since I've installed them before on thissame machine. Can anyone explain why this might be, and what I can do (if anything) sothat it can be installed again? Thanks.Steve
