Reduce The File Size Less Then Original Size In SQL 2000
Jul 25, 2007I have one db test with one .mdf and .ldf file...mdf file size is 100mb and for some reson i removed all the tablesfrom that .mdf file and transfer it into new secondary file so all thetables moved into secondary file now i want to reduce the first .mdffile from 100 mb to 50mb is that possible,it's showing 90mb is free.Please reply

I have an original database that I want to copy once to another database. Then I want to update the data weekly with the data of the original database. I don€™t change any tables or columns in that part of the database. Just some tables more in the €˜new€™ database (than the tables from the original database) with some references to the tables that have to be updated weekly.
How can I do this? (if you know what I mean... it's a sort of a datawarehouse where different sources come together.. that part that represents the original database is just a part of the datawarehouse. That part is exactly the same structure as the original database.)

Changes To Cloned Database Are Affecting The Original
Oct 20, 2006I am trying to use SQL Express to support unit testing of functionality which requires database access.
I created an express database (.mdf) which contains a database snapshot which is the database environment that each test expects to see when it starts. Through the execution of the test the database will be modified arbitrarily and I need to reset the database to the original state before the next test executes.
Here's what I do today:
Before Test:
The original database is copied to a unique location in the temp directory
A unique database name is generated (GUID-based)
I connect to the new database file with:
Server=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename="PathToTempFile";Database="GuidDBName";Initial Catalog="GuidDBName";Trusted_Connection=Yes;User Instance=true
During the test all database access is routed to the temporary database GuidDBName
After Test:
Close all active database connections and clear the connection pool
Connect to the master database and detach the database:
Server=.SQLEXPRESS;Database=master;Initial Catalog=master;Trusted_Connection=Yes;User Instance=true - sp_detach_db 'GuidDBName'
Delete the temporary file
When I do this, everything seems to work correctly but when I re-open the original database it has changed unexpectedly and includes the modifications that were made by the test as it ran.
Can anyone explain why this is happening and/or provide a solution?

Take Oracle for example:We can modify table data. But when we run demobld.sql script then all tables will replaces with original entries.

I am working on a project that contains several databases in SQL and many settings. The problem I am encountering is that I want to be able to update the program for all my customers. That is no problem.
The problem I am meeting is where, when the program is updated, all the settings and all the information in the databases reverts to the default values, or the values that were compiled with the new update.
I want to be able to update their program without deleting all the settings they have.

the problem is that the sum of all tables is not the same size when i make a full database backup.
example of this is when i run this query against my database i see a sum of 111,899 KB that they are 111MB,but when
i do full backup to that database the size of this full backup is 1.5GB,why is that and where this size come from?

I am trying to resize a database initial log file from 500M to 2M. I€™m using€?
ALTER DATABASE <DBNAME> MODIFY FILE ( NAME = <DBLOGFILENAME, SIZE = 2 ) "
And I'm getting "MODIFY FILE failed. Specified size is less than current size." I tried going into the database properties and setting the log file to 2M, but it doesn€™t keep the changes.
Any help with this process?

I am developing a smart device application with Visual Studio .Net 2005 and SQL Server Compact Edition database. And also using merge replication to synchronize the data from the mobile device to the SQL Server.
My database size is around 350MB. So when I am trying to synchronize this is the error message that I get.
" The database file is larger than the configured maximum database size. The setting takes effect on the first concurrent database connection only.[Required Max Database size ( in MB; 0 if unknown)=129].
I tried changing the Max database size in the connection string and my connection string looks as follows and still did not have any luck.
connstr= "Data Source=Storage CardItems.sdf;Max Database Size=500;"
Any help regarding this would be appreciated.

I got an issue with encrypt and decrypt. I encrypted a data, say 'ok', then I decrypt the encrypted data, but what I got is not 'ok'. but if I encrypt a column, then after decryption, those data asr same with the original data in that column.
In my case,

here, I didn't get the value 'ok' but a another wierd word (like a chinese word).

Fuzzy Grouping Using Original Key
Nov 14, 2007I managed to get fuzzy grouping working. The relevant output (_key_in and _key_out) are stored in a new table that is a copy of the old table + fuzzy grouping columns.
How do i get SSIS to store the _key_in and _key_out in the original table?
The new matching column _key_out refers to the new key: _key_in. How could i get SSIS translate that to a matching column that refers to my original key?

Mar 1, 2002We have a SQL server database most time for read only because the data source comes from another database( which is not SQL server database, now it is about 2G). Every day we have a job running as following:
Step 0. extra the data from another database, and create plain text files for each table for BCP job.
Step 1. drop all of the index
Step 2. truncate all of the tables.
Step 3. BCP in all of the data from plain text file.
Step 4. create all of the index again
Step 5. shirnk the database.
Everything runs fine but the database grows 1 G from yesterday's database. I am sure we do not have so much data entry in one day.
Any one can give some suggestion?
I wonder if I need do shirnk the database or shirnk the data file before create the index.
How can know how much size for all of the index file?

We are using sql6.5. srvpack 3.
I noticed that one of our database was maxed out, and increased the size of the device and then increased the size of the database.
when I checked the database it is still showing the database is maxed out. I did it twice, it still shows that the space has been used.
Can anyone please explain to me why this is happening and how to get the actual space measurement.
