Out Of Memory Error (bUFFER SWAPPING )- SSIS

Feb 27, 2007

HI ,

Need some quick fix Help

I have been
trying to load data from AS400 to DB2 (windows) using ADO.NET connection in
Data reader source and OLEDB Destination (IBM Oledb provider )

The files, I€™m trying to load, have
number of rows more then 15 million.

On execution of the package I get
Out of Memory Error (see below)

My Destination Box is 4GB+ RAM and 4
CPU Box.

There seems to be some Buffer and
Swapping related issue which I€™m not able to figure out. It says that System is
unable to allocate memory

Please help me on the same.

Thanks in Advance

Memory Fills Up Then A Buffer Error Is Generated.

Jun 22, 2007

I have SSIS sp2 running on a Win2003 64bit Server with 4processors and 16GB of ram. I am trying to load 1 billion rows of data into 10 tables. The source data is found in 12 different 50GB fixed width flat files stored on 2 different files servers. The destination is 10 different tables in a single SQL Server 2000 database which has 1TB of space allocated to it. I use the MS SQL OLE DB connection for each destination table.

The SSIS package is pretty straight forward. Everything takes place in 1 data flow. The 12 sources each flow through 12 different Row Count Transformations into a single Union All Transformation. From the Union All transformation the data goes into another Row Count Transformation then into a Conditional Split Tranformation. The data is split into 10 streams base on the last digit of one of the ID fields in the data. The 10 streams are fed to the 10 destination tables.

Every time I run the package (Start without Debugging) the avaible physical memory goes from around 15GB to 0 in about 2 minutes. The % comitted bytes in use goes from 5% to 100% in about 5 minutes. Once at 100% it will stay there for around 5 minutes before it will finally give me the following error message:

The system reports 98 percent memory load. There are 17178939392 bytes of physical memory with 189382656 bytes free. There are 8796092891136 bytes of virtual memory with 8742748930048 bytes free. The paging file has 54388109312 bytes with 16056320 bytes free.

This message is followed by a bunch of other messages:

SSIS Error Code DTS_E_PROCESSINPUTFAILED. The ProcessInput method on component "Union All" (2073) failed with error code 0x8007000E. The identified component returned an error from the ProcessInput method. The error is specific to the component, but the error is fatal and will cause the Data Flow task to stop running. There may be error messages posted before this with more information about the failure.

SSIS Error Code DTS_E_THREADFAILED. Thread "WorkThread1" has exited with error code 0x8007000E. There may be error messages posted before this with more information on why the thread has exited.
The attempt to add a row to the Data Flow task buffer failed with error code 0xC0047020.

SSIS Error Code DTS_E_PRIMEOUTPUTFAILED. The PrimeOutput method on component "Dr 2" (663) returned error code 0xC02020C4. The component returned a failure code when the pipeline engine called PrimeOutput(). The meaning of the failure code is defined by the component, but the error is fatal and the pipeline stopped executing. There may be error messages posted before this with more information about the failure.
The attempt to add a row to the Data Flow task buffer failed with error code 0xC0047020.

...

SSIS Error Code DTS_E_PRIMEOUTPUTFAILED. The PrimeOutput method on component "Dr 3" (898) returned error code 0xC02020C4. The component returned a failure code when the pipeline engine called PrimeOutput(). The meaning of the failure code is defined by the component, but the error is fatal and the pipeline stopped executing. There may be error messages posted before this with more information about the failure.

SSIS Error Code DTS_E_THREADFAILED. Thread "SourceThread2" has exited with error code 0xC0047038. There may be error messages posted before this with more information on why the thread has exited.

I have tried adjusting the Engine threads down from 5 to 4 to 2. I have tried adjusting the FastLoadMaxInsertCommitSize from 1000000 to 100000 to 1000 (Destinations are tablocked and Check Constraints). I have tried moving the DefaultBufferMax up to 16500 and down to 2000.

Nothing works. The package fails everytime within 20 minutes of its start.

I would prefer not to have to rewrite the package and process each file sequentially as that would take forever.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

SSIS ERROR : Overflowed The Disk I/O Buffer, DTS_E_PRIMEOUTPUTFAILED

Nov 1, 2007

Hi,
I get folllwing error while SSIS package is executing and uploading Data from Flat Files to SQL Server 2005. This Error goes away when I change my SSIS Package Connection Manager to read UNICODE data files.
Is there any smart way to figure out which flat files have UniCode Data in the and which is not a Unicode data file.

Thanks,

Error: The Buffer Manager Failed To Create A New Buffer Type

Apr 28, 2006

Hi

I have a master package that executes a series of sub packages run from a SQL Agent job. One of those sub packages has been stable for a week, running at least once per day, but it just failed despite having been run once already today with the same set of input data.

There were a series of errors showing in the event log for the Execute Package Task starting with "Buffer Type 15 had a size of 0 bytes.", then "The buffer manager failed to create a new buffer type.", then "The Data Flow task cannot register a buffer type. The type had 32 columns and was for execution tree 3.", then "The layout failed validation." and finally "Error 0xC0012050 while loading package file "C:[Package].dtsx". Package failed validation from the ExecutePackage task. The package cannot run.".

SQLIS.com reports the constant for the error code as DTS_E_REMOTEPACKAGEVALIDATION ( http://wiki.sqlis.com/default.aspx/SQLISWiki/0xC0012050.html ).

I then ran the package on my dev machine in BIDS and it worked fine, so I re-ran the job on the server and this time that package executed ok, but another one fell over but did not put anything in the event log.

Does any one have any idea what happened?

TIA . . . Ed

SQL 2012 :: Buffer Cache Size Much Lower Than Max Memory Config And Low PLE?

May 22, 2014

I have a virtual server (VMware ESX) with 64GB RAM running a single instance of SQL 2012 SP1. The max memory config is set to 59392 (58GB).

The Page Life Expectancy for this server has been averaging well under 10 mins for the last few days, according to our monitoring.

I have been checking the amount of data in the buffer cache periodically during the day with the below query, which seems to show that there is never more than about 10GB of data at any one time, frequently dropping below 5GB:

SELECT COUNT(*) AS BufferPages,
CONVERT(decimal(10, 2), COUNT(*) / 128.0) AS BufferMB
FROM sys.dm_os_buffer_descriptorsWhy would the amount of cached data be so low (and cause so much churn)?

I am aware that other things will require some of that memory (plan cache etc.) but with Max Mem of 58GB, I would expect there to be a much higher amount of actual cached data at any one time. I did the same checks on another VM with the same amount of RAM/Max Mem setting, and there was 50GB of data in the cache, with PLE measured in hours.

Out Of Memory. Error In SSIS

Jun 27, 2007

Hi!

I am currently encountering an error of testing an SSIS package in the server.

The package runs fine on my laptop, but not in the server.

I appreciate it for any of your input, comments, and suggestions.

The package is to populate records (150k rows) from a DB2 table and insert them into

another DB2 table (12,754,715 rows).

The server,

Windows Server 2003 Enterprise

SQL server 2005 sp1

8 CPUs

6 GB RAM

Native OLE DBIBM OLE DB Provider for DB2

My laptop,

Windows 2000 Professional

SQL server 2005 sp1

2 CPUs

2 GB RAM

Native OLE DBIBM OLE DB Provider for DB2

It fails on the insertion part (see the error message at the bottom). I have been playing with "DefaultBufferMaxRows" and "DefaultBufferSize" properties, but still no luck so far.

For the testing purpose, I even only select 2 rows from the source table, but it still fails with the same error message. And strangely, it still takes a very long time to process (for just two rows). In my laptop, it only takes few second to finish.

I have been really pulling my head to try to figure it out. Any of your help/input is highly appreciated! Thanks!

Attempted To Read Or Write Protected Memory Error In SSIS

Mar 17, 2006

I'm trying to import data from a Sybase ASE 12.0 database called "OurTestDatabase" into MS SQL Server 2005. I started SSIS Wizard and indicated "Sybase ASE OLEDB Provider" as a source and SQL Native Client as the target. I'm gettign the following error message:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cannot get supported data types from the database connection

"Provider=Sybase.ASEOLDEDBProvider;Password=;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=sa;Data Source=sybase;Initial Catalog=OurTestDatabase"

Additional information

|_ Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt. (System.Data)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The same data source worked with DTS when we thought we'd convert to MS SQL Server 2000. Is this a bug in SSIS? What can be done? Using ".Net Framework Provider for ODBC" is not a good option because this doesn't allow me to choose any tables from the Sybase source.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Would Max Memory Including SSIS And SSAS Memory

Mar 27, 2008

Hello, I understand that we should use SSMS -> Server Properties -> Memory to put a cap on the SQL server memory usage, therefore it gives some space memory for OS, this is based on the fact if the max memory is not specified, SQL will use whatever available memory and eventually crash the system.

My question is that when a server has SSIS and SSAS services installed along with the SQL service. Would the max memory setting covers the SSIS and SSAS memory usage, or the SSIS and SSAS has to shared the memory with OS?

Thanks,
fshguo.

Memory Issues, SSIS Package Out Of Memory Help

Dec 6, 2006

I am running Visual Studio 2005. I have an SSIS Package which is consuming a huge amount of memory. During the execution of the package the memory keeps increasing. Until finally i get an Out of Memory exception. I have run this package using dtexec, and in the BIDS. No difference. I do have some script components and have added some code to get the assemblies in the current appdomain. I do see that one particular assembly is increasing on every loop. VBAssembly every time it hits the script component is increasing by 6, and along with it the memory is climbing. What is this VBAssembly being used for is there an update to SQL Server Integration Services that I need?

Thanks! Aaron B.

[DTS.Pipeline] Error: component "Tracer" (19717) failed the pre-execute phase and returned error code 0xC020204B.€?
Component Tracer is the Look up. Tracer is having around 6.5 mil records. Is there any way to allocate more buffers thru buffer manager? Or is there any alternative to solve this problem? FYI, the hard disk free space is more than 250 GB.
Thanks in advance.

How To Flush Data Stored In SSIS Buffer

Aug 2, 2007

Hi,

I am working on my own data flow source component. Here is a fragment of this component code:

public override void PrimeOutput(int outputs, int[] outputIDs, PipelineBuffer[] buffers) { PipelineBuffer selectedBuffer = buffers[0]; string message; while ((message = GetMessage()) != null) { selectedBuffer.AddRow(); selectedBuffer.SetString(0, message); // how to flush data here? } selectedBuffer.SetEndOfRowset(); } private string GetMessage() { // we are retrieving some message here, this is a long-term process }

When a new row is added by this component to the buffer then this row is not immediately available to the next component in data flow. It is possible to configure SSIS in that way that each row is immediately sent to the next data flow component? If no also please inform me about that.

Thanks,
Rafal

}

I have put any code in the else part as i am just trying to run the task as of now and later put the functionality in it.

Please let me know if i have missed something. Thanks in advance.

SSIS Failure - Can Not Add A Row To The Data Flow Task Buffer

Apr 18, 2006

I have a relatively simple SSIS package that I'm building for a data mining process. The package starts with an OLE DB data source, passes the results of a SQL Command (query) along to a conversion step, which then gets sent to a Term Lookup task. The Term Lookup then writes the result to an OLE DB Data Destination. Pretty simple. The OLE DB data source query returns about 80,000 rows if you run it through SQL WB. The SSIS editor shows 9,557 rows make it out of the source, and into the conversion step, 9,557 make it out of the conversion and into the lookup, and about 60,000 rows make it out of the lookup and are written to the results table. Then the package fails with the following errors listed on the progress screen. I was assuming that the 9,557 was some type of batching that was occurring in the process, but now I'm not so sure.

Thoughts?

SSIS Custom Component, Output Buffer Problem

Mar 27, 2007

Hi Guys,

I created a SSIS custom component, transformation (Asynchronous) with one Input collection and 2 output collections.

The SSIS Package which includes the Component I created works well in the Business Intelligence Studio, but when the same Package is run in the 'Execute Package utility' It fails to run. ( when you Double click on the dtsx file)

The cause of the failiure is

public override void PrimeOutput(int outputs, int[] outputIDs, PipelineBuffer[] buffers)

method receives only one output buffer when executed using the 'Execute Package Utility' { outputs = 1 , buffer.Length = 1 } ( when executed in the BI studio, the method receives parameters of both the output buffers that I expect { outputs = 2 , buffer.Length = 2 } )

The property ComponentMetaData.OutputCollection.Count = 2 as well. Yet the PrimeOutput method provides only 1 buffer.

The Validation Succeeds on both instances, which I assume means that Meta Data is Provided Properly.

What would be the reason for the same pakage to run in 2 different ways like this,

What might I have missed out to do, to make the package run in different ways on 'Business Intelligence Studio' and 'Execute Package Utility'

Thanks a lot

Below are some of the lines from the ProvideComonentProperties Method which deals with the output Collection, Isn't this sufficient for the PrimeOutput to provide 2 output buffers?

ProvideComponentProperties()

public override void ProvideComponentProperties()
{

RemoveAllInputsOutputsAndCustomProperties();
base.RemoveAllInputsOutputsAndCustomProperties();
base.ProvideComponentProperties();

//other function calls

IDTSOutput90 output1 = ComponentMetaData.OutputCollection[0];
output1.Name = "Output1";
output1.Description = ".......................";
extracted.SynchronousInputID =0;

IDTSOutput90 output2 = ComponentMetaData.OutputCollection.New();
output2.Name = "Output2";
output2.Description = "..........................";
output2.SynchronousInputID = 0;

//other function calls
}

Warning - Kept Reference To Buffer - What Can Be Done About These Buffer Warnings?

Mar 6, 2008

Good day everyone,

I'm experiencing a completely random warning from any given row count component within any given data flow task. It occurs sporadically. Whilst distracting, I don't see any adverse effects to the data after the packages complete. Can someone weigh in on this warning and let me know if it is indeed benign or what I maybe able to do to fix it?

Here's the warning:

"A call to the ProcessInput method for input 75997 on component "CNT Rows sent for STG table" (75995) unexpectedly kept a reference to the buffer it was passed. The refcount on that buffer was 4 before the call, and 5 after the call returned."

Thanks,

Langston

Waiting For Buffer Latch Error

Jul 20, 2005

Does anybody know what might cause the following message to show up inthe SQL Server Error Log?:Time out occurred while waiting for buffer latch type 2, bp0x12260f80, page (5:77914), stat 0x40d, object ID 7:421576540:0,waittime 500. Temp Buffer Error Allocating ######## Bytes

Jan 11, 2008

Hi Guys,
i've found many threds with SSIS buffer errors but non of them seems to work, or have a good solution. i'l explain the story short.

i've got a DB server running on Windows 2003 R2 Enterprise with 10GB RAM 20GB Virtual memory with same spec another machine for the web server.

both machines have "Lock Memory in memory" group policy enabled for

Network Service
System
DomainSQLServiceAccount (in DB server)
and in the DB memory "awe allocation" is also enabled.
both servers have /PAE /3GB switches enabled in boot.ini file

problem: i run all my SSIS packages in the web server through IIS. so the processes are devided between DB and web server. i.e SSIS service is also running in web server.

when i run packages under load (transforming - 200,000 records) i get buffer allocation errors.

A buffer failed while allocating 10485760 bytes.
Error Code = -1073450990
all packages i run i have set the default buffer temp to my web servers e: emp (got 260GB space left). and defaultbuffer size is 10mb with 10,000 defaultbuffermaxrows.

funny this is when it hit 8.33GB (approx 875 files) i get the above error message. it always seems to give me errors after 8.33GB.

Note: all packages run in IIS (w3wp.exe). i'm configuring my new production boxes. the old production with similar envirnment (less speed) work with the same data and packages fine under load.

new production machine got more memory than the old machine but i get memory error (buffer). it doesn't even use up all available physical memory, only about 3gb (max), then start buffering to disk.

any help would be greately appreciated.

i also got

The system reports 31 percent memory load. There are 10734981120 bytes of physical memory with 7326126080 bytes free. There are 3221094400 bytes of virtual memory with 283840512 bytes free. The paging file has 12661686272 bytes with 9633767424 bytes free.Error Code = -1073450991
this was before i increased virtual memory to 20gb(from 4gb).

Any ideas i can try out?

SQL Error: 16931 (There Are No Rows In The Current Fetch Buffer)

Sep 15, 2007

Hi,

I am having problem with the CRecorset::Update() function.
I have declared a CRecordset object in client Application in VC++6.0.
I open the recordset in dynamic mode.
Before opening the recordset , I have obtained the UPDLOCK on the base table.( Obviously this UPDLOCK is in transaction).
When I try to call CRecordset::Update() it gives me exception 16931(There are no rows in the current fetch buffer).
I have define a clustered index on this table.
But I still get the exception 16931 on calling CRecorset::Update().

Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Synchronization Error:The Buffer Pool Is Too Small Or There Are Too Many Open Cursors.

Mar 15, 2006

Hello:

I tried to synchronize the SQL 2000 database with the SQL mobile server on PDA with SQL server management studio from SQL 2005. I got the error as €œThe buffer pool is too small or there are too many open cursors. HRESULT 0x80004005 (25101) €?. The SQL database file size is 120MB.

I create the .sdf file on PDA with the following C# code:

string connString = "Data Source='Test.sdf'; max database size = 400; max buffer size = 10000;";
SqlCeEngine engine = new SqlCeEngine(connString);
engine.CreateDatabase();

I think the 400MB max database size and 10000KB max buffer size are big enough to hold that SQL database data and I have already successfully synchronized my PDA with another smaller SQL server database file. I have been kept trying and searching this for couple of days and still can not figure it out.

Moreover, the synchronization always stops at the same table.

Please help and a lot of thanks in advance.

Connection String Swapping

Mar 19, 2008

I am converting a legacy ASP.NET 1.x site to an ASP.NET 2 one.  In the former site, sets of data connections are stored in an web.config file allowing swapping between testing and production servers based on a global variable value at the start of the app. As I now try to use sqldatasource, I find the control has its connection string embedded in the html page and stored as a unique variable in the web.config. How can I dynamically swap the new sqldatasource's connectionstring the same way data connections are made in the former site? Please advise. Thanks.

Swapping Rows And Column

Apr 5, 2001

I have a table that has a column for each month and I want to use a view to convert each row into 12 rows with a one month column. The month column will have 1 - 12 in it depending on the month. I need to convert it this way to push it into an Essbase cube. I know I can use the union operator to do this, but I would rather not read the table 12 times. Is there a way to do this just reading through the table once? My Hyperion Essbase book gives an Oracle example for swapping rows and columns by using a decode function. Is there a similar function in SQL Server?

Need Advice For Process Of Swapping DBs

Jul 23, 2005

I need to build a *.sql script that will remove a database (let's callit "DB1") and replace it with a brand new empty database (let's call it"DB2").Caveat: I don't want to be left with database "DB1" having it's filesconfusingly named "DB2.mdf" and "DB2_log.ldf". These two files shouldalso be renamed to "DB1.mdf" and "DB1_log.ldf" so that outsidecustomers are not left confused. In addition, I need to be able torestore the original DB1 if anything goes wrong during, or even after,the entire process.Let's assume every customer's *.mdf's and *.ldf's will always reside inC:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQLdata folder.I've researched sp_attach_db, but this looks more appropriate formoving databases. This isn't what I want to do.Thank you in advance.

DTS Error: Data For Source Column 2 (‘column_name) Is Too Large For The Specified Buffer Size.

Oct 4, 2005

Hi,

I’m attempting to use DTS to import data from a Memo field in MS Access (Jet 4.0 OLE DB Provider) into a SQL Server nvarchar(4000) field.  Unfortunately, I’m getting the following error message:

Error at Source for Row number 30. Errors encountered so far in this task: 1.
Data for source column 2 (‘Html’) is too large for the specified buffer size.

I also get this error message when attempting to import the same data from Excel.

Per the MS Knowledgebase article located at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=281517, I changed the registry property indicated to 0.  This modification did not help.

Per suggestions in other SQL Server forums, I moved the offending row from row number 30 to row number 1.  This change only resulted in the same error message, but with the row number indicated as “Row number 1â€?.  (Incidentally, the data in this field is greater than 255 characters in every row, so the cause described in the Knowledgebase article doesn’t seem to be my problem).

You might also like to know that the data in the Access table was exported into this table from a SQL Server nvarchar(4000) field.

Does anybody know what might trigger this error message other than the data being less than 255 characters in the first eight rows (as described in the KB article)?

I’ve hit a brick wall, so I’d appreciate any insight.Thanks in advance!

Error: 17805, Severity: 20, State: 3 Invalid Buffer Received From Client.

Oct 11, 2004

Howdy Folks,
Our site has been experiencing this issue for a couple of months now.. Hopefully someone else can assist, as I’ve got to a point where I think issue lies within the application or a Microsoft bug. Web searches have reveled a number installations that have also had this error but its has not revealed an actual fix.

I understand this error code basically means data being returned to the client is getting either corrupted or the data is too large to fit into the buffer on the client side. Client in our case is the terminal server, here after called a application server

As the user base has increased form 5 to 20, I have noticed that the issue is occurring more frequently in comparison to when the company first started using the application /database. Its just about daily now...

The db server also has 8 other db's residing on it - but they are all less than 300 meg.

The attached PowerPoint doc has the trace info & the surrounding code for each process that has suffered a buffer error over a period of a week.

DB Server Environment: Win2000 SP4, SQL2000 SP3a, MDAC 2.7 SP1 refresh.
Application Environment: Written In house in VB.NET Framework 1.1 – setup as a published app on a terminal server – running windows 2000 SP4

Common features of the issue, that have been omitted from trace output for visibility reasons are:
-Involves 1 particular DB (thats accessed by VB app) & its developement db
-All connections are coming from 1 application server
-Issue does not relate to any particular site connecting to the application server using this application

I have reviewed & fixed several potential server side causes but this error still is occuring with in the environment:

MDAC versions must be common on application & server:
- Removed from equation by updating MDAC version on App server to be the same as DB Server: 2.7 SP1 Refresh

Network related
- Considered unlikely; we are also not experiencing network card errors on either server; also all db's would be experiencing connectivity errors.

Which leaves us with Application related options to review:
- Compilation error of application
- App parameter definitions to stored procedures are the correct data type
- Ensure values being passed do not exceed 4000 characters as that has also been known to create this error message
- I've asked the developer to review MS KB 827366 article, as it may be a valid test
- In regard to MSKB 832977 - I am not using pssdiag & have a later version of the MS Analyzer. But what I thought was interesting, is the statement that this problem occurs more frequently when an application submits a large remote procedure call (RPC) input buffer, especially when the RPC input buffer is greater than or equal to 8 KB. However, this problem may occur even if the input buffer is less than 4 KB
- A is using datatypes varchar & char - not nvarchar & nhar

Any assistance with this issue would be appreicated as server performance is being effected - these processes hang around for 1 - 5 mins before terminating (refer duration times in the powerpoint traces)

Thanks In advance

Suze.
