Email Report In Outlook 2007 Not The Same As Outlook 2003

Feb 7, 2007

I have a Reporting Services 2005 report that is emailed to users.  I created/formatted  the report based on how it looked in Outlook 2003 which all of our users had at that time.  The report is wide, but just fit in the email window when it was full size.   Now I have a user who has been converted to Outlook 2007 and he emailed me a copy of the report he received in Outlook 2007 and it looks like it reduced the column sizes; it does not fill the entire email window and wraps the wording on most lines because the column sizes have been reduced.

The report is:

Delivered by: Report Server E-mail

Include Report is checked

Render Format is Web archive

Any ideas on how I can fix this?

Thanks in advance.

Agent Mail / Outlook 2003 Catch 22

Jan 30, 2006

I've just installed and configured outlook 2003 with sql agent mail and I've come across a strange conundrum: messages from agent mail are not actually sent unless the outlook client is open, but the default mail folder is locked by agent when agent is started, thus preventing outlook 2003 from opening. If I try things the other way - opening the client and then configuring/restarting agent mail - then agent mail can't access the default mail folder because the client has it locked.

There doesn't seem to be any way to win here.

Anyone come across this issue and found a workaround?

Outlook 2003 Filter SQL Tab To Compare The Values Of Two Fields In A Given Contact.

Sep 28, 2007

Hello and Thank You in advance:

I would like to Use the SQL Tab in the Filter Selection of the View-Modify Current View Option in Outlook 2003.
I am specifically trying to create a statement that only displays those Contacts that have a Modified Date that is different than the Created date. In other words I want to view all the records that have been modified at any time after the date of their creation.

I have been unable to create a SQL statement that compares the Created and Modified fields in the Contacts. Would you please explain and show what the correct syntax is in order to compare the values of two fields within a given Contact?

These are all examples of what I have tried and that have not worked. I cannot find documentation for this anywhere only small articles here and there that are not enough for me to develop a complete answer from:

(("urnchemas:calendar:created" >= '1/1/2001 12:00 AM' AND
"urnchemas:calendar:created" <= '12/31/2001 12:00 AM')
AND ("urnchemas:calendar:created" <> "urnchemas:calendar:lastmodified" ))
("urnchemas:calendar:created" <> "urnchemas:calendar:lastmodified" )

(("urnchemas:calendar:created" >= '1/1/2001 12:00 AM' AND
"urnchemas:calendar:created" <= '12/31/2001 12:00 AM') AND
("DAV:getlastmodified" >= '1/1/2001 12:00 AM' AND
"DAV:getlastmodified" <= '12/31/2007 12:00 AM'))

("urnchemas:calendar:created" <> "DAV:getlastmodified")
("DAV:getlastmodified" <> "urnchemas:calendar:created")
("DAV:getlastmodified" <> 'urnchemas:calendar:created')
("urnchemas:calendar:created" <> 'DAV:getlastmodified')

SQL Injection Prevention Example From MS Press

Apr 21, 2008

There is a MS Press book that I read which used the following code to prevent SQL Injection attempts from succeeding within a SProc. However, I have found that this example is too inclusive. For example, this will catch the value "Spanish Moss", when this clearly not an injection attempt. Why is that?

DECLARE @Query NVARCHAR(50);
SET @Query = N'Spanish Moss';
/* Also return true: */
--SET @Query = N'experienced vb.net coder';
--SET @Query = N'executive suite';

IF UPPER(@Query) LIKE UPPER(N'%0x%')
OR UPPER(@Query) LIKE UPPER(N'%;%')
OR UPPER(@Query) LIKE UPPER(N'%''%')
OR UPPER(@Query) LIKE UPPER(N'%--%')
OR UPPER(@Query) LIKE UPPER(N'%/*%*/%')
OR UPPER(@Query) LIKE UPPER(N'%EXEC%')
OR UPPER(@Query) LIKE UPPER(N'%xp_%')
OR UPPER(@Query) LIKE UPPER(N'%sp_%')
OR UPPER(@Query) LIKE UPPER(N'%SELECT%')
OR UPPER(@Query) LIKE UPPER(N'%INSERT%')
OR UPPER(@Query) LIKE UPPER(N'%UPDATE%')
OR UPPER(@Query) LIKE UPPER(N'%DELETE%')
OR UPPER(@Query) LIKE UPPER(N'%TRUNCATE%')
OR UPPER(@Query) LIKE UPPER(N'%CREATE%')
OR UPPER(@Query) LIKE UPPER(N'%ALTER%')
OR UPPER(@Query) LIKE UPPER(N'%DROP%')
BEGIN
RAISERROR(N'Possible SQL injection attempt.', 16, 1);
RETURN;
END
ELSE
BEGIN
PRINT N'All is well!';
RETURN;
END

If I remove "Spanish" from the query, or the check for "sp_" from the IF statement, this runs fine. So I know the line where this is caught, but it doesn't make sense to me. I can also duplicate this using the work "experienced" which gets caught by the "xp_" check.

Can someone offer some assistance?

Log Shipping Example In MS Press Book

Jun 19, 2008

Good morning,
I am wondering if any of you can give me some help with the practice exercise in the MS Press 70-431 Text, starting on page 671.

I am doing this on my personal PC that runs Vista, and am using the Enterprise Edition that comes on the enclosed CD with the book.

The instructions for the practice are fairly detailed, however, I completely understand all of it. They have you set up a folder off the C drive, then three subfolders, one of which will store the backups, that you name "LSBackup". You also have to make this subfolder "shared" and give "Everyone" permissions.

The configue has you select "Yes, Make a Full Backup, and restore" option. This creates a backup in this shared folder. Then when the process starts to restore the database from this just created backup into one of the other subfolders, the process stops with the following error:

"Cannot open backup device '\HP-PCLSBackupLSTesting.bak' Network path not found Error 53"

Note "HP-PC" is my computer name that I determined in the System icon in Control Panel. "\HP-PCLSBackup" is the network path name entered in one of the text boxes in the exercise.

I tried doing a regular restore of the backup file above, using the right click menu and referencing the file via it's path name:"c:LogShipPracticeLSBackupLSTesting.bak"; and restoring the DB into the other folder and it works fine.

The LSBackup share folder shows on Windows Explorer off the Network Node.

Go easy on me guys, I am not a tech support/engineer... I do systems development work. I may have missed something obvious to many of you somewhere along the line.

Any suggestions/help will be well appreciated.

Thanks!

Talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish.

Connection Closes Often

Feb 24, 2006

Hi Team,

I get the below error very often.

java.sql.SQLException: I/O Error: Connection reset Caused by: java.net.SocketException: Connection reset

Followed by a number of "java.sql.SQLException: Invalid state, the Connection object is closed.".
Some time Invalid state, the Statement object is closed."

I have checked out the network problem and time out of queries. And both does not seems to be an issue for me. Because my application send queries continuously (Checked it with mssql profiler all queries executed in minimum interval) and MSSQL runs in the local machine. Meantime i do not see any wrong packet exception.

Is there any other thing i could check out. Any kind of Help is much appreciated.

Thanks for your help.

Connection Closes Abruptly

Jul 4, 2006

My application consists of two modules, one in VB6, which performs Inserts and Updates on an SQL Express Server, and the other in VB.NET which performs Select operations on the same server.

From last two days the .NET module (which performs heavy select queries), randomly gives an error : "Connection closed for this operation", and rarely gives an error : "SqlException: A severe error occurred on the current command".

I don't know whether these two errors are linked to each other. But the former error is a very high priority for me, as it is application wide.

This problem is occuring only in the .NET module. The VB6 module which uses the same server is working fine.

Please help.

Visual Studio Closes When Data Source Has Changed

When I open the package in Visual Studio, I see the exclamation mark on the object but before I can make change or go to edit anything in the package, I hear the "dumphhh" sound that indicates an error. There is no dialogue box but the program is now locked up. Then after 10 - 20 seconds the program closes.

How am i supposed to add the new column to the data source metadata if I can't edit the package?

Visual Studio Closes When Accessing The Columns Tab Of A Lookup Transformation Referencing SQL 7 Table

Jul 30, 2007

I'm creating a new Integration Services Project that copies data out of a SQL 7 server, transforms it, and places the data on a SQL 2005 (SP 2) Server. When defining a lookup transformation, if I specify an OLE DB Connection to my server running SQL 7 as the reference table, as soon as I click on the Colums tab, Visual Studio closes / crashes and dumps me to windows. I don't get an error message. If however I specify a connection to a server running SQL 8, or SQL 2005, no problems.

Is this supposed to happen?

My workstation is running Windows XP Pro SP2, Visual Studio 2005 Pro.

Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services Designer
Version 9.00.1399.00

The server that doesn't work for a reference table is running Windows 2000 Server SP4
SQL 7.00.623

Thanks for your help,

Print Barcodes With The Active X Print Control

Mar 2, 2007

We are having problems printing Reports (when printing by clicking on the AcitiveX print control), where the font for the fields are set to "C39HrP24DhTt" (barcode).

While viewing the report it displays as Barcodes but while printing, the Barcode does not get printed, but the string gets printed.

Environment: SSRS 2005

Using the ReportViewer Control in a .Net 2.0 Web App to render the reports.

BarCodes print fine in the following situations:

1. When the Report is exported to Excel and when printed from there

2. When you click on the print button on Internet Explorer

3. When saving as html (from view source) and opening that html document and printing.

BarCodes do NOT get printed in the following situation:

1. When printing by clicking on the "Print" (Active X Control) icon. Even the "Print Preview" does not show the Barcode.

Reporting Services From WebBrowser Control - Print = Unable To Load Client Print Control

Mar 20, 2007

UPDATE #2: When it said "Do you want to install Microsoft SQL Server" I said "yes" and that caused it to work. I exited and re-ran and now the print runs w/o the "install SQL Server" (If the prompt had said "Do you want to install the print dialog" we wouldn't be having this discussion...)

UPDATE: After posting this i discovered that the same thing occurs when attempting to print the report direct from IE6: First a dialog pops up "Do you want to install this software?" Name: Microsoft SQL Server. When I click "Don't Install" I get the dialog "unable to load client print control." Since this happens direct from IE6 I suspect it's browser settings. I'll resume tomorrow and post a followup.

My WinForm C# app integrates Reporting Services by calling them from WebBrowser controls. The problem is attempts to print cause a dialog: "unable to load client print control."

I've read prior posts that say "enable Active-X in your browser" - I don't know how to do that from a WebBrowser control.

Any ideas how to support Reporting Services "Print" from within a WebBrowser control?

Outlook 97 And SQL 7.0

Jul 25, 2002

On our SQL 7.0 servers we have always used Outlook 97 as our mail client and until last week we've had no issues with this setup.

A week ago a number of the servers with this set up started hanging on jobs with mail statments using xp_sendmail and the only solution was to reboot the server. All the servers use the same NT account and the same mail box for the mail. I've talked with our Exchange guys and they say that nothing has changed on the mail server. I found a Q article (Q315886) that suggests starting sql as an application not a service to see if pop ups could be causing the problem. Well no pop ups.

I installed Outlook 2000 on the boxes and that seems to have fixed it. Or at least no problems today with those servers.

Has anyone seen this before or have any idea what might be the cause of it?

thanks
Donna

'set the properties and open a connection

cmd1="use my_db"
cmd2="create table mytb"
cmd3="insert into mytb"

SqlCnt.execute cmd1
SqlCnt.Execute cmd2
SqlCnt.Execute cmd3

ConnectionString.Open

CmdLine01 = " USE " & myDB
CmdLine02 = " SELECT ACCOUNTS.FULLNAME FROM ACCOUNTS" ...

CmdLine03 = "GO
ALTER TABLE Block...
GO"

CmdLine04 = "UPDATE Block..."
CmdLine05 = "SELECT Block..."

RecordSet.Open CmdLine01, ConnectionString
RecordSet.Open CmdLine02, ConnectionString

ConnectionString.Execute CmdLine01
ConnectionString.Execute CmdLine02

'Retrieve Field titles
For ColNr = 1 To RecordSet.Fields.Count
ActiveSheet.Cells(1, ColNr).Value = RecordSet.Fields(ColNr - 1).Name
Next

ActiveSheet.Cells(2, 1).CopyFromRecordset RecordSet

'Close ADO objects
RecordSet.Close
ConnectionString.Close
Set RecordSet = Nothing
Set ConnectionString = Nothing

End Function

Win 2003 X64 + SQL 2005 &< Win 2003 32 + SQL 2000?

IDE Drives.Windows Server 2003 (32bit) and SQL Server 2005 (standard).I'm using Cognos' DecisionStream as the ETL tool (32bit). I have theidentical job on both machines. Machine A is slower to do my nightlybuild (1h 20m) vs. Machine B (50m).I've done no tweaking of the databases. I Used SQL 2005's studio tocopy the database from Machine B to Machine A.The only major difference is the O/S and SQL, the machines are samespeed, however Machine A has twice the memory and faster disk; so Iwould expect it to be faster.Can anyone think of smoking guns I might be missing?TIA

From Outlook To SQL Database

I have a question that I hope to get an answer from you.

We had an exchange central which used to get data from the outlook and save it in the database, then we have another solution that filters the data we need from there and save it into another database to produce a report for the economy department to be used for wages. Now the exchange central has many problems and they decided not to use it any more. What I want to do is to get data(calendar posts) direct from the outlook into my SQL 2000 database. Is it possible? If yes, what is the best approach to do?

SQL Data Import Into MS Outlook.

Jun 29, 2001

Hello all,

I am trying to build some sort of interface either directly in MS Outlook on the client comp. or a stand-alone app. The requirement works somewhat like what is done between a PDA and MS Outlook, with the exception that the data only goes one way - SQL Server --> Outlook.

I want to allow for the user to choose from their data in SQL Server and have it bring that data down into their contacts folder. It will need to work over the internet, and MS Exchange is not a preferred method.

Clients are not on the same network as the server, they only connect to the internet via IP and use simple POP mail accounts.

Thanks ahead of time.

Sql Mail And Outlook 2000

Oct 10, 2000

I'm trying to set up Sql Mail using Outlook 2000 and the only way I can get a message sent is to have the Outlook client open at the time I start Sql Mail. Sql Mail will start regardless of the profile chosen even if it is blank, but if the Outlook client was not running at the time I started Sql Mail then while executing xp_sendmail I get "Server: Msg 17914, Level 18, State 1, Line 0 Unknown recipient: Parameter '@recipients', recipient 'jcorriveau@homeruns.com'"

Regardless of the Outlook client status or profile setup when performing a MAPI profile test, <SQL MAIL><Properties><Test>, I receive "SQL-DMO(ODBC SQLState: 42000) Error 22030: A MAPI error(error number 273) occurred.:Unable to get the default MAPI Message Store due to MAPI error 273:The information store could not be opened."

I've setup Sql Mail and Outlook 97/98 clients in the past and have not had to have the client open when starting Sql Mail. I've read most of the technet and knowledge base articles and the only ref I can find to this problem is a note in Q248431 "note that outlook 2000 or another configured MAPI client must be started before xp_startmail is executed." Was this the case in Outlook 97/98?

The Exchange server is in another domain. I think it's version 5.5. I'm using my domain account and profile to setup Sql Mail. I can send and receive mail fine using Outlook 2000. There is a Password dialog box that appears when starting the Outlook client prompting for User Name, Domain Name, and Password. I have not been able to create a profile that gets around this dialog box. Is this an Exchange server setting? If so, is it a server wide setting or can it be disabled per mail account?

Any help with this will be appreciated. Thanks, Jim
