Hi,
I had a question. Is is good to configure Outlook Express as my default mail client for SQL Mail. I had to do this as Outlook 98 was not responding and there was couple of other problems.
We do not have any licenses for MS Outlook and our main e-mail client is GroupWise. Someone has told me that we should be able to use the Outlook Express client to activate SQL Mail. Is this true; if so how is it done. If not does it make since to put the GroupWise client on the SQL Server ?
Thanks in advance,
Walker
Anybody use them together? If so, how did you set it up?

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy IT manager doesn't like the idea that a production process written in DTS needs Outlook 2000 running for DTS Email. I tend to agree that having an app like Outlook 2000 running in the production machine is kind of tacky. Am I missing something here? Why would MS suggest such a solution? Is there a way to configure DTS and Outlook so Outlook doesnt have to be running as an app?

I'm trying to make SQLMail work. I have installed Microsoft Outlook 98 with MSSQL 7.0 on a NT Server 4.0 with Service Pack 6. I have set a profile for a user with admin rights to start a service. I can successfully start up with SQL with this account. When I try to start up SQL Mail it comes back with this error:
DESCRIPTION: Error: 0, Severity: 19, State: 0
SqlDumpExceptionHandler: Process 34 generated fatal exception c0000005
EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION. SQL Server is terminating this process.
With another dialog box:
Error 22030: A MAPI Error (error number: 87) occured:
Can any one Help??
Do I need reapply the service pack??
I'm trying to set up Sql Mail using Outlook 2000 and the only way I can get a message sent is to have the Outlook client open at the time I start Sql Mail. Sql Mail will start regardless of the profile chosen even if it is blank, but if the Outlook client was not running at the time I started Sql Mail then while executing xp_sendmail I get "Server: Msg 17914, Level 18, State 1, Line 0 Unknown recipient: Parameter '@recipients', recipient 'jcorriveau@homeruns.com'"
Regardless of the Outlook client status or profile setup when performing a MAPI profile test, <SQL MAIL><Properties><Test>, I receive "SQL-DMO(ODBC SQLState: 42000) Error 22030: A MAPI error(error number 273) occurred.:Unable to get the default MAPI Message Store due to MAPI error 273:The information store could not be opened."
I've setup Sql Mail and Outlook 97/98 clients in the past and have not had to have the client open when starting Sql Mail. I've read most of the technet and knowledge base articles and the only ref I can find to this problem is a note in Q248431 "note that outlook 2000 or another configured MAPI client must be started before xp_startmail is executed." Was this the case in Outlook 97/98?
The Exchange server is in another domain. I think it's version 5.5. I'm using my domain account and profile to setup Sql Mail. I can send and receive mail fine using Outlook 2000. There is a Password dialog box that appears when starting the Outlook client prompting for User Name, Domain Name, and Password. I have not been able to create a profile that gets around this dialog box. Is this an Exchange server setting? If so, is it a server wide setting or can it be disabled per mail account?
Any help with this will be appreciated. Thanks, Jim
I've just installed and configured outlook 2003 with sql agent mail and I've come across a strange conundrum: messages from agent mail are not actually sent unless the outlook client is open, but the default mail folder is locked by agent when agent is started, thus preventing outlook 2003 from opening. If I try things the other way - opening the client and then configuring/restarting agent mail - then agent mail can't access the default mail folder because the client has it locked.
There doesn't seem to be any way to win here.
Anyone come across this issue and found a workaround?
I am using nt4.0 sp5 with sql7.0 sp3 and exchange client.
Does anyone know how to keep xp_sendamil form putting a copy of the mail message in the sent mail folder or an automated process for deleting all mail in the sent folder? As it stands now I must manually delete all messages from the sent mail folder on a daily basis.
Thanks,
Ed.
I would like to configure e-mail alerts on my SQL Server 2000 box.However, we also run Exchange on the same machine. I've been told therecould be conflicts/issues having Outlook on the same machine asExchange; and apparently, one needs Outlook to configure a mail profilefor SQL Server Agent.Is there, in fact, anything to worry about? If so, are there anywork-arounds beside moving Exchange to another server? (we've only gotone server, so this is not an option for us at this time).Thanks.- Dana

In using OutLook Express do I need to also setup a PostOffice. My server currently doesn't have any POST OFFICE or Mail software under control panel.

I have a Reporting Services 2005 report that is emailed to users. I created/formatted the report based on how it looked in Outlook 2003 which all of our users had at that time. The report is wide, but just fit in the email window when it was full size. Now I have a user who has been converted to Outlook 2007 and he emailed me a copy of the report he received in Outlook 2007 and it looks like it reduced the column sizes; it does not fill the entire email window and wraps the wording on most lines because the column sizes have been reduced.
The report is:
Delivered by: Report Server E-mail
Include Report is checked
Render Format is Web archive
Any ideas on how I can fix this?
Thanks in advance.
I'm trying to install BCM into Outlook 2007. I'm able to get the Office
package working and updated to TR2. However when it starts the install of
BCM the first step is to install SQL Express. I get two error messages indicating
failure to install and it refers me to the SQL log. Here's a copy of the
most recent SQL install log. I've removed and reinstalled everything many times but the
same error message persists on install of BCM. I've also tried to directly install SQL Express and get the same error. Any ideas???? Thanks,
Rusty.

We try to install Business Contact Manager for Outlook 2007 and get installation failed without any error. It simply refers to the log file. I have posted below the last 40 lines of this huge log file. The information in there are not vary help full since it refers to error codes that nobody seem to be able to explain. Now this is happening on 3 brand new dell computers running XP Pro. I would be happy for any assistance to either explain the error coded (if any MS guy is monitoring this) or maybe someone had a similar problem and could let me know some options on what I could try to get this resolved and my program installed.
Thank you all very much for assisting me.

Hello,

Thanks,

We currently have SQL Server 6.5 installed on 2 servers and did not

Kind of a newby sql question, but here goes:I have a sql 2005 database that I have a job that runs Sunday morning at 12:30 am. I set it up using SQL Svr Mgt Studio 2005. Under the Management directory I set up Database Mail to work with my local SMTP server. I can send a test email just fine.I then set myself up as an operator with my email address. (Under operators directory) I then went back to the properties of the job I set up, and under 'notification', chose e-mail operator (me) when Job Succeeds. The job runs, itt suceeds, but NO email!It flat out won't work. there are NO entries in teh( email) log for errors either. Anyone? TIA Dan OR is it better to script these jobs using xml? I don't have time to learn a new thing right now, just need it to work!

Why can I connect to the database via TCP when using the management studio but not when using the visual IDE C# ?

Hey all... great site!
Here's what I'm going for:
I have an 05 VB.NET windows application that will be used as a smart client for our folks in the field. The windows application includes 05 SQL Server Express. I have included in the Data Sources of my project and attached file going through the wizard Microsoft SQL Server Database File (SqlClient) ='s (myfile.mdf) and then selected all tables, views, stored procedures, and functions... the corresponding myfileDataSet.xsd with the myfile.mdf are now located in the root of the project. I now recompile the project without error and go to the properties section Publish tab... select the Application Files button and myfile.mdf Publish Status is set to Include and the Download Group set to Requried. With this in place I right click on the myfile.mdf from the Soultion Explorer and under the properties section have set the build action to compile and use the copy always setting for the Copy to Output Directory.
My app.config looks like this:
<configSections>
<sectionGroup name="userSettings" type="System.Configuration.UserSettingsGroup, System, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089" >
<section name="myfile.My.MySettings" type="System.Configuration.ClientSettingsSection, System, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089" allowExeDefinition="MachineToLocalUser" requirePermission="false" />
</sectionGroup>
</configSections>
<connectionStrings>
<add name="myfile.My.MySettings.ffgscrmConnectionString" connectionString="Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|myfile.mdf;Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=30;User Instance=True"
providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
</connectionStrings>
After the publish is completed on the client machine... install for Windows Installer 3.1, SQL Server Express, and the Windows Application contains no data but everything else works fine.
My problem is that I need to attach the myfile.mdf to the new SQL Server Express instance on the client machine during the installation process so that when the application fires it will be pointed to the above location on the client.
Any ideas... scripts... includes for an ApplicationEvents.vb on how to do this? Thanks a ton... :)
Kind regards,
BillB

Hi All,
I really need some help here! I have spent the last few days upgrading a clients system to SQL 2005, part of which involved upgrading their sales people's laptops to Sql 2005 Express and setting up Merge Replication. I have configured the Server to use Web Synchronisation, and have tested that the replisapi.dll?diag all works ok and it does.
I am running into problems now with getting the laptops to synchronise. I have set up the Replication task, and am getting an error when I run the Wndows Synchroniser:

The schema script '\PTC42ParklandsWebsiteV2ftpPTC42_PARKLANDS_PARKLANDS20060812131209' could not be propagated to the subscriber.
The process could not connect to FTP site 'mail.parklands.net' using port 21.
A connection with the server could not be established

I have tested independantly connecting to the FTP server using Windows explorer and it works fine using the same username and password. I am at a loss here!!! I am going in circles looking for help too as there doesnt seem to be much info on this in SQL 2005 yet. I have re-read all the books online articles for Replication, Replication in SQL 2005 Express, and also gone back & reset up the Server & the Client several times - with no luck!
The client needs to get these sales guys laptops back ASAP and I am starting to really stress out here!! (can you tell I havent had much sleep in the last few days??) Any help would be so wonderfully apreciated!!!
Thanks so very much,
Catherine
I am running Windows XP Media Center Edition and receiving the following error when trying to install the SQL Express Server with Advanced Options:
An installation package for the product Microsoft SQL Native Client cannot be found. Try the installation again using a valid copy of the installation package 'sqlncli.msi'.
I did view the readme and found the following advice:
3.1 Existing SQL Native Client Installation May Cause Setup to Fail
Setup might fail and roll back with the following error message: "An installation package for the product Microsoft SQL Native Client cannot be found. Try the installation again using a valid copy of the installation package 'sqlncli.msi'." To work around this problem, uninstall SQL Native Client by using Add or Remove Programs. On a cluster, uninstall SQL Native Client from all nodes. Then, run SQL Server Setup again.
The problem is that I do not have the SQK Native Client installed to uninstall it.
Any suggestions/ideas?
Thanks in advance.
Hi,
Can I access from App machine (on WinXP) to SQL 2005 Exp machine (on WinXP) ?
I installed SQL 2005 Exp SP2 on Win XP SP2 on my PC. Please consider following environment:
- My PC name: MyPC
- Database name : MyData
- Database role for MyData without any permissions: MyDBRole
- Application role for MyData having all permisions: MyAppRole
- Database user: MyDBUser
- SQL Login: MyLogin (WinXP Limited Login) mapped to MyDBUser
- Application Name to access MyData: MyApp
- Using Application Role MyRole in MyApp
I am accessing data from MyApp within MyLogin. When I want to access from other tool like Management Studio Express, I can not access it and that that is what I want.
Till now it is OK when I am doing all these things on MyPC.
Now question is : Is it possible to connect from other PC (say CleintPC) running Windows XP SP2 use MyApp ?
I think ClientPC should access MyPC through MyPC's MyLogin.
[ I have tried successful simple SQL server connection with MyPC's Guest Login]
Please tell me is it possible ? (Running SQL Express on one machine, Application on second machine and both machine's operationg system is Windows XP)
Thanks
Hello,I have a question on what is the best way to send mail form my asp.net 2.0 application stored in sql2005 express:In one of my tables I have a DateField which contains a certain date. When the current date is within 1 hour of the stored date I would like to send an email.How should I implement this? I.e. writing code that opens a page every x time and perform a query that checks the date and send an email from there? Not the best way I guess..Or, using something like triggers. Or, using the SQl2005 mail component? I hope some of you experts can point me in the right direction.Many thanks already!

Question: Should I install both the DataBase Services feature and the Client Components feature?
Many thanks, for your help on this.
I'm working on a C# 2008 project, when i add a CE Database to it, then publish the app, the installer wants to download and install the entire SQL Server Express product on the client machines. My understanding is that I should be able to embed this database right into the app, but it defeats the purpose to have the installer download and install the entire express product (the actual project is 1 meg).
Is this expected behavior? or am I doing something wrong?
