I have an DB2 source and SQL destination. I have 2 ConnectionManager. One for DB2 (IBM DB2) and other for SQL. Both are of the OleDB type.
Well. I setup my connections and it work fine. Now i want to change my ConnectionManager for others sources or destinations. And I don't want to have to change the connection in more than forty packages.
For this, i have 2 XML configuration file in package configurations. One for connection. In this XML i have the connectionstring, user and password. These files are obtained in all the packages.
Well. If i change the connectionstring in this XML file configuration, only work fine the OLEDB for SQL. The conection for DB2 return the fail: "The AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager "_packagename_" failed with error code 0xC0202009."
I have proven to modify protectionLevel of the package to DontSaveSensitive. SQL work fine. DB2 fails. I have changed to EncryptSensitiveWithPassword. The same.
Why the packages obtain the data of connection of the configuration file for SQL and it does not work or with the configuration file for DB2.
Often when I open an SCD component that was previously configured I find that the configurations are lost. The "Input Columns" and the "Key Type" columns on the first screen ("Select a Dimension Table and Keys") are blank. The "Dimension Columns" column is still populated.
If I run the package, the SCD component appears to function the way it was configurated to function. However, the settings cannot be viewed.
Has anyone experienced anything similar? Any ideas why this happens?
My company took over a project that another company was building. The other company switched all the passwords for the system and the database right before they left. No one has the passwords to the system or the database. Is there a way I can dump the data, or re-mount the drives into a different machine and get the data? Or am I just screwed? I have physical access to the machine and I can do anything needed I just need this data asap!!
I have lost the system administrator password for my test server which contains inf. which I cannot afford to loose. The SQL server documents state that if the password is lost , then a SQL re-installation will have to be done.
Is anyone aware of a way to reset the password for SA without reinstalling the SQL server.
I need to retrieve the SA Password through MS SQL 2005. The reason why is I am trying to connect a number of computers in the same building for an Address Book to be shared by everyone. I will be using the program, Addressinator! to do this. But I need to have the SA password in order to connect the computers. I am running Windows XP. I have read a few instructions on how to retrieve or make a new password on the net, but most of it doesn't make sense to me.
For Example, this is one that I found: To reset the sa password, you can make the following:
1. Login to the SQL Server box as the Administrator. 2. Run SQL Server Enterprise Manager. (I don't have the Enterprise Manager) 3. Right-click the server name and choose 'Edit SQL Server Registration properties'. (I can't find the properties!) 4. Choose 'Use Windows authentication' and click OK button. 5. Expand a server, expand a Security and click Logins. 6. Double-click the sa login and specify new password on the General tab.
I just started a new job and no one seems to know the SA password. Here's my plan to change it:1. I've run a trace for a couple of days to verify that there are nojobs or processes that are connecting as SA and that would break if Ichanged the password.2. Before the changing the password I am going to bulk copy out thesysxlogins row for SA so that if things go wrong I can reinset the olddata with the old unknown password (will that work?).3. Log on to the console as Windows administrator and changing the SApassword.Does that make sense? Anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks.
I forget my dts password for an dts on Sql 2000 SP3 .How can i reset or find my password for edit my DTS .I have db admin and sys admin user rights on this database.
Hello, I'm running an MS SQL 2005 database which supports our entire website and it's fairly huge. I seem to have lost the sa password for the database.
I COULD get it back if there was a way to convert the SQL 2005 DB to an SQL 2000 DB, seeing as how I found a password cracker for that version. Is there anyway to convert a 2005 DB back to a 2000 DB?
Does anyone have any other ideas they might want to lay on me?
I'm kind of sick about this... I'm usually a really good note-taker; In fact, I do have the sa password recorded in an IT database that I keep. Unfortunately the password just doesn't work. I've tried the caps lock and other variations, but the password just eludes me.

I have a package protected by a password - I am already unhappy that to get it to use the configuration file to change connection strings for the production servers I have had to hardcode the password into the config file - very insecure! However, the package now deploys correctly to the production server and will run from there OK, but NOT if scheduled as a SQL Server Agent Job. Thus is because however often I edit the command line to include the password after the DECRYPT switch (which it has prompted me for when I click on the command line tab), the Job Step will not retain it. If I open it up after I have edited it and closed it, the password has disappeared.
I know that if I run dtexec plus the code in the Command Line tab (with the password), the package runs OK.
This is driving me insane! I have read all the other posts and so I tried replacing the SSIS package step with a CmdExec step and pasting that code into there - then I get an OLEDB error..
The code I use is: DTEXEC /SQL "ImportRateMonitoringTables" /SERVER servername /DECRYPT password /CONFIGFILE "D:Microsoft SQL ServerSSISDeploymentsRateMonitoringImportTasksDeploymentImportRateMonitoringTables_Production.dtsConfig" /MAXCONCURRENT " -1 " /CHECKPOINTING OFF /REPORTING E
and I get
SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x8000FFFF
although the same code executes perfectly from a command prompt.
Please does anyone have any experience with a similar problem and if so, how did you get round it?
After designing a SSIS package in Visual Studio 2005 that had two connection manager defined to keep the password. After I deployed the package to a file system. I then Imported the .dtsx file after making a Integration Services connection in Sql Server Management Studio. When I tried to run the package it failed when it tried to make the connection. When I edited the connection manager connection string and added the password and the package ran fine but it does not retain the password!. I need to have this package scheduled to run daily so I need to know how to have the package keep the password in the connection string. I have seen other posts on this issue but not seen a good solution. Could someone point me to the proper MSDN article that would explain how to implement this ? Is it a SQL Server configuration issue or a property in Visual Studio SSIS design time ?
Hi --I was wondering if this is a bug when I add new data in my table SSIS Confiurations and give wizard a new Configuration filter the package configuration wizard can not see the new values --the old values from the previous configuration are still showing---is there any known workaround or forced refresh I can do
thanks in advance Dave
Background:
SQL Package Configurations are most important because they provide the possibility of a central configuration store for your entire enterprise!!!!!!!! and is in my mind the only way to go
USE [ETLConfiguration] GO /****** Object: Table [dbo].[SSIS Configurations] Script Date: 05/23/2006 13:34:35 ******/ SET ANSI_NULLS ON GO SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON GO CREATE TABLE [dbo].[SSIS Configurations]( [ConfigurationFilter] [nvarchar](255) COLLATE Latin1_General_CI_AS NOT NULL, [ConfiguredValue] [nvarchar](255) COLLATE Latin1_General_CI_AS NULL, [PackagePath] [nvarchar](255) COLLATE Latin1_General_CI_AS NOT NULL, [ConfiguredValueType] [nvarchar](20) COLLATE Latin1_General_CI_AS NOT NULL ) ON [PRIMARY]
Hm... I use SSIS packages to manipulate some data from one SQL server to another. I chosed "DontSaveSensitiveData" and I am using a XML configuration file.
The problem is I have to edit the file with notepad manually and add the password for my SQLconnections in it.
Is it possible to do this from the Business Intelligence Studio instead?
I tried to edit the connections and set and save password there but it won't save it to the XML configuration file.
Or perhaps it is intended to be edited in notepad and passwords set manually to it?
I have an SSIS package that pipes data from an iSeries data source to a SQL Server table. The connection manager I am using is the .Net ProvidersOdbc Data Provider
When I run this SSIS package on my developer PC (from inside BIDS or using the Management Studio Execute Package Utility) it works. However when I run the package from within a SQL Server Agent Job it fails.
I have enabled logging and the error message given is: System.Data.Odbc.OdbcException: ERROR [28000] [IBM][iSeries Access ODBC Driver]Communication link failure. comm rc=8002 - CWBSY0002 - Password for user MALLPRESS on server SMICHC is not correct, Password length = 0, Prompt Mode = Never, System IP Address = 172.16.0.4 ERROR [28000] [IBM][iSeries Access ODBC Driver]Communication link failure. comm rc=8002 - CWBSY0002 - Password for user MALLPRESS on server SMICHC is not correct, Password length = 0, Prompt Mode = Never, System IP Address = 172.16.0.4 It gives the message €śPassword length = 0€? despite the fact that I have specified a password in the package.
To try to get around this I have added an XML configuration file to the SSIS package. In this configuration file I€™ve set values for the ConnectionString, UserName, and Password. I still get the above error about a password length of 0.
I have also tried to execute the package using dtexec, but this gives a similar error. The SQL used to run this is: xp_cmdshell 'dtexec /sq "SCSRV-06DTS PackagesStagingStagingBranchImport"'
This has got me stumped, and I€™m not sure where to go from here as these packages need to be programmatically run each morning. At the moment I am manually running them from within BIDS. All packages that don€™t use an iSeries connection manager run successfully in SQL Agent jobs. I have also tried using the OLEDB connection manager (ibm db2 udb for iseries ibmda400 ole db provider) without success.
I'm new to SSIS. I'm trying to build a simple package, run it on dev and migrate it to our stg and tst environments. It works on my dev environment great! It simply loads data from a flat file into a table. The trouble i'm having is exporting the connection string info to an xml file and runnign it on other environments. I am not storing the package on the db. I am saving to a file and running through SQL Server BI Development Studio.
I go to "Configuration File" and export InitialCatalog, ServerName, User, Password to the file. I can manually change the xml to the new environment but don't know how to set the password. It's not in the xml and i am constantly getting "Login failed for 'sa'" errors. Anyone know how to do this. I CAN get this whole process to work if i use Windows authentication security but this isn't an option. I need to use the db security.
I am planning to develop a single package that will download files from ftp server, move the files to internal file server and upload it in the database. But I want to run this package for multiple ftp file providers. For each provider the ftp server might be different and the transformation to upload the files into a database table might be different.
So can I create a single package and then multiple configuration files (xml), which will contain the details fo the ftp file providers and then pass the xml file as a parameter while executing the package. The reason being that the timings of fetching the files is different for each ftp file provider and hence cannot be combined into one.
Deployed Report having SSIS package as source do not work when Indirect Package configuration is used in ETL package. It seems ETL package when called/executed from Report manager does not recognize environment variable to pick up the dtsconfig file.
The Report works when Direct package configuration is used to same dtsconfig file.
What could be the reason? Any solution for this? This will cause our build/deployment to QA and Prod very difficult.
Here's the deal. I have a child package, (say, pack01.dtsx), which uses a dtsconfig file for its connection string, which can be called from other packages, but which also can be called by itself.
However I also have another package (say, pack02.dtsx) which uses the same dtsconfig file for its connection string. It calls on pack01.dtsx.
When I use DTEXECUI and run pack01.dtsx, specifying the proper .dtsconfig file, it goes well. But when I try and run pack02.dtsx, an error occurs saying pack01.dtsx connection cannot be established.
How do I pass the connectionstring being used by pack02 to pack01, without having to remove the configuration file setting of pack01? Can a Parent Package configuration and a configuration file try and map to the same property?
I know this sounds bizarre, but hey... this is DTS, right?
For ALL of my local packages on a particular server, when I open them with DTS designer on my workstation, everything is fine - I can even execute them. When I log onto the server locally, and open them, the workspace is empty!!!
They are stored as local packages. As I said, I can execute them within designer on my workstation, but if I try to run them via dtsrun, I get an error saying "No Steps have been defined for the transformation Package." And when I look at them on the server, that appears to be true.
One last thing (I know you've heard this before)... Everything was working fine last week - that darn Santa.
dear list can anyone figure out a workaround as to why OLEDB Provider MSDORA cannot store passwords I have all the info stored in a table (Project Real Best Practise) The user id I have stored in string ConfiguredValue gets transfered to OLEDB Provider MSDORA named (SQL_REAL_Source_myoradb) but not the password To workaround this bug only with MSDORA can aynonne sugest a setting I should use in package security ie the default is EncryptSensitiveWithUserKey?
thanks Dave
CREATE TABLE [admin].[Configuration]( [ConfigurationFilter] [nvarchar](255) NOT NULL, [ConfiguredValue] [nvarchar](255) NULL, [PackagePath] [nvarchar](255) NOT NULL, [ConfiguredValueType] [nvarchar](20) NOT NULL ) ON [PRIMARY]
I am creating a windows application to manage my ssis packages.
My SSIS packages use package configurations, and by default connect to the "SSIS Configurations" table in sql server.
However, I want it to connect to a view instead of this table, so i create a view "vwSSIS_Configurations" and point the package configuration to use the view in sql server.
The application SHOULD be capable of altering the package configuration's configuration and switch its connection between the default "ssis configurations" table, and the view.
Is this possible? I cannot think of a way which I can have my application switch the package configuration's connection.
I'm developing some packages in SSIS and I need to implement a configuration file to load the server's connections and other parameters, so I can use this same connection for all packages.
Have anyone a step by step to perform this configuration ?
I exported a Connection Manager to a .dtsConfig file, but I don't know how to use this config file.
Here is the scenario we are trying to use; (it a bit long winded please bare with me)
There are 2 Packages Parent and Child. Both have 2 Connection Managers (€śConfiguration€? & €śData Connection€?). The €śData Connection€? has an invalid connection set to start with this is so that we can deploy this to multiple places and use a SQL table to hold the configuration.
At runtime €śConfiguration€? is set to a valid SQL2005 database connection via the command line or in BI but €śData Connection€? is left invalid.
The Package Configuration point to an SQL server using €śConfiguration€? this has the connection string for the €śData Connection€? Connection Manager (a valid connection string). The package errors with can not acquire connection.
The first task is to put the Connection string of the Connection manager €śConfiguration€? in to a variable. Then the child package is called.
The Child package has the same 2 connections €śConfiguration€? & €śData Connection€? both are Invalid at this time.
1) We use the Package Configuration to populate a variable from the parent package which holds the €śConfiguration€? connection string.
2) We use a Package Configuration to populate then Configuration€? connection from the parent package which holds the €śConfiguration€? connection.
3) We use a Package Configuration to populate the €śData Connection€? Connection Manager using the €śConfiguration€? connection. Which should be Set via step 2 here.
The First task on the child package has a bit of script to check all the connection manager return a valid connection to make sure database are up and running before connection. This fails at the moment return in an error.
We want to use the same code in multiple environments and as such don€™t want to make code changes that are really only environment changes.
IE connection string to servers. I can€™t seem to see anything saying we are doping anything wrong but if the connections are all set to a valid connection before running this seems to work. When invalid connection are used this seems to fall over.
I have created a package configuration to read the connectionstring for the oledb connection manager. Saved the file as Environment.dtsConfig in the same directory as the other packages. Do the packages refer to the configuration file automatically? Does it make a difference if I use the dtexec to start the ssis packages since there is now a configuration file?
i am haveing package which is devloped in BIDS and i am executing the package from DotNet (Windows Application C#).during development my package is pointed to Server1,Database1.when we move the package to another test environment for a different server and database (Server2,Database2). we are giving the connection string details in dtsConfig file .but Package is not takeing the new connection string instead its takeing the old connection string (design time connection) and throwing error.what could be the problem
