Page Number In ReportExecution2005 - Render Method
Mar 10, 2008
Hello,
I am trying to render a Report in HTML4.0 format using ReportExecution2005 web service's Render method. When I use this, I am getting all the results in a single page. I want to display the results page by page as ReportViewer control does. Is there any way to get the total number of pages of the Result using Render() web method?
I tried using the following deviceinfo:
"<DeviceInfo><StreamRoot></StreamRoot><Toolbar>True</Toolbar><Parameters>True</Parameters><Section>0</Section><HTMLFragment>false
</HTMLFragment></DeviceInfo>";
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

I have a report that I'm hosting on SSRS. I have it setup for localization so if someone hits the report directly and their default language setting in their browser is ja-JP the report will display in Japanese. I am using the User!Language variable for this.
I am primarily displaying this report through an ASP.NET app however and am calling the Render method on the ReportingService service, then displaying the returned HTML in a literal control. This works great except, obviously, with this proxy type of set up the user's browser settings get lost in the shuffle. I can retrieve the browser settings easily enough in my ASP.NET application but how do I pass those settings along to SSRS? I have tried setting the CurrentCulture and CurrentUICulture on the thread executing the request but it still comes back in English. I have also tried setting the Language property (as shown below) but it seems as though that would change the Language on the report for everyone, not just my session.
Property[] props = new Property[1];
props[0] = new Property();
props[0].Name = "Language";
props[0].Value = "ja-JP";
report.SetProperties(reportPath, props);
Can someone help?
Thanks

Hi all does anyone know where I can find more information on the Render method of the Reporting Services WS?
Specifically there is a DeviceInfo parameter that you need to pass in and it is a string that is in an XML format but I cannot seem to find any documentation on the specifics of it. I have seen a few examples but no specifics.
Any help with this is greatly appreciated?
Thank you,
John

Hello all, according to the documentation for the DeviceInfo parameter of the ReportingService.Render method the Xml string fragment of PageHeight and PageWidth for the Image Device Information Settings should and I quote.
The page height, in inches, to set for the report. You must include an integer or decimal value followed by "in" (for example, 11in). This value overrides the report's original settings.
Emphasis mine. Page width is similar. However when I change that value to what is desired for the IMAGE format it has no effect whatsoever no matter what value I place in there.
Indeed the size that is rendered is more related to the current display resolution setting rather than the PageHeight/PageWidth values passed in. In otherwords if my laptop has a higher resolution of 1920x1200 and the server that I deploy this WS to has a lower resolution of 1280x1024, the image rendered on the higher resolution display fits on to an 8.5x11.0 in page with room to spare but on the lower resolution display it is clipped because it does not fit the page.
Is there something that I am doing wrong or is this indeed a bug?
Thank you,
John

Hi there.
I had been looking around for some info about this.
So far I understand that the showhidetoggle parameter determines which drilldowns are visible or hidden.
I am trying to use the render method, and try to show the drilldowns on my html page.
First question:
How does the showhidetoggle work in the URL or even show an example of how the drilldowns work through showhidetoggle ? In other words, how does the showhidetoggle knows which one to display if I have only one string value ? Maybe there is another way to do this or another way to define this syntax ?
Second question:
How do i determine the number or the string parameter without having to look through html ? is there a way to do this so that I can pass this string to the parameter in the ASMX ?
Thanks for reading this post !

Hello all,
I'm at a bit of a loss as it seems what I want to do should be obvious but I can't seem to locate whether it is possible. Essentially I would like to render a report using the api/C# and I would like to set the actual data the report renders via an XML string that I construct however I like within my code. Is this not possible? I hope I'm overlooking the obvious here.
Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Hi there,
Is there a way to programmatically save a RS results into Excel format using the render method ?
I had read about that capability but I can't seem to find any sample code on how to do it. Is this a parameter that you have to set in the render method ?
Any suggestion or tips are much appreciated !
Thanks !

I have a requirement that I'm having a difficult time figuring out.
I have a number of subreports, 27 of them, and I need to put them all on a single report, and have each one render on a separate page. Each of them I can be sure is a single page - how do I force a page break after each subreport?
I've been trying a number of strategies, tables, lists, rectangles, etc, with no luck...
Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
B

Hi,
I'm using an URL to render a pdf.
- URL: //reportserver/...&Filename&...&Format=PDF (with this URL, it renders the pdf just fine)
However, if I want to pass some parameters to define the page layout, it seems this has no effect on the pdf.
--> URL: //reportserver/...&Filename&...&Format=PDF&rs: Command=Render&rc: StartPage=0&rc: PageWidth=16,54in&rc: PageHeight=11,7in
(I've added some spacing between ": P", ": C" and ": S"; otherwise it displays an emoticon)
Is there anyone who can see what the problem seems to be?
Hope to get an answer soon.
Thanks in advance...
Houssin

I developed a java proxy application for SSRS(Sql Server Reporting services) and able to render the reports by making webservice calls to SSRS webservices. But I am getting the data for the complete report. How can I get only a partial report( like page by page as we get in the Report Manager)? Which parameters should I pass.
As some of the reports are too big, the java application is getting memory issues and I want to limi the data that I get from SSRS.
Appreciate your suggestions.

Hello Microsoft or Forum Members:
This seems like a simple Microsoft Based Reporting System 101 feature...But I can not find out how to do it (among other things that seem like it should work with Microsoft rendering to Microsoft).
How do I make the SSRS 2005 Header for the Report print on each of the pages in excel once it is rendered from SSRS?
All I want is an answer by MSFT that says "YES" it can be done and how or "No" it is not currently available.
I noticed I am not the only one with this type of simple question:
(see this unanswered post)

I am having a small problem.
When I generate a report with a large amount of text data (Paragraphs) the report will not split the text between two pages.
It will move the entire text box to the next page leaving a large amount of space on the previous page.
I tried every control on the page to render this. I tried textboxes, tables, lists, rectangles, subreports, etc..
The data is stored in a SQL table using a text data type (there can be a large amount of data entered into these database.
Any help on this would be great. I like reporting services, but there are just a few bugs.
I am using Reporting Services 2000 with Service Pack 2 and Hotfix
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=912424 (That fixed a different PDF rendering issue) and this problem was occuring prior to this hotfix.
Thanks in advance

I would like to look at the way my data is stored in the page. I have done this for a long time on Sybase, but I am having trouble with the page number on MS SQLServer 2000. I have a 5 row table. When I select INDID and FIRST from SYSINDEXES, I get
indid first
------ --------------
1 0x370300000100
I have tried all manner of gyrations to put this in to the DBCC PAGE command. No matter how I do it, I get an error saying that page is not part of the database, or the format is wrong. From my searching and reading, I think that this actually a combination number, consisting of the file and page number, but I can't see how to separate it. Any assistance would be appreciated. A link to documentation on internals, such as system table details and page formats would be most helpful. I looked in Ken Henderson's book on architecture and internals, and could not find it.
Or is there a DBCC command that will tell me more about the table, and perhaps give me the page number in decimal? So far, I can only find the checkdb gives that info on errors only.
Thanks for looking at this with me.

I following the instruction on http://support.microsoft.com /?kbid=875447 and did the following:
(1) I added the Web Reference http://ReportServerName/ReportServer/ReportExecution2005.asmx and named it rsReportExecution2005.
(2) In the web page, I Imports rsReportExecution2005.
(3) In the button_click event I have the following code:
Dim rsReportExec As ReportExecutionService = New ReportExecutionService
rsReportExec.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials
Dim byteResult As Byte = Nothing
Dim strReportPath As String = "ReportViewer.aspx?%2fCAIT%2frptIssuesByRole&rs:Command=Render&intProjectID=" & Me.cboProject.SelectedValue & "&nvchrWhoRan=" & Session("strEmployeeName")
Dim strFormat As String = "MSWord"
Dim strEncoding As String = ""
Dim strMineType As String = ""
Dim strExtension As String = ""
Dim wrnWarnings As Warning = Nothing
Dim strStreamIDs As String = Nothing
Dim execInfo As ExecutionInfo = New ExecutionInfo
Dim execHeader As ExecutionHeader = New ExecutionHeader
rsReportExec.ExecutionHeaderValue = execHeader
execInfo = rsReportExec.LoadReport(strReportPath, Me.cboProject.SelectedValue)
Dim strSessionID As String = rsReportExec.ExecutionHeaderValue.ExecutionID
byteResult = rsReportExec.Render(strFormat, Nothing, strExtension, strEncoding, strMineType, wrnWarnings, strStreamIDs)
I got errors on the last line above on wrnWarnings that "value of type 'rsReportExec.warning' cannot be converted to '1-dimensional array of 'rsReportExec.warning' " and on strStreamIDs that "value of type 'string' cannot be converted to '1-dimensional array of 'string'". What did I miss?
Thanks.

I've been banging my head against this for a while now and have searched through the documentation and google and posted to the newsgroups with no luck.
The ReportExecution2005 namespace contains a sort method, but the documentation doesn't indicate how it's used. The method accepts a string for the sort item, but that string apparently has to be an integer. I've called the method and regardless of the input, the result is the same:
* The sort method returns 1 and the report item passed in is the report item returned in the 'out' variable.
* The sorting is not reflected in the output of the Render method.
I can't simply use interactive sorting because, in our deployment, the SQL Server and Reporting Services are not accessible through the firewall. Requests go to a web server which calls the SSRS web methods and renders the report to an HTML placeholder.

Hi,
I am using PHP5 and SSRS 2005 to execute a report via ReportExecution2005.asmx?wsdl (using PHP's SOAP functions). I keep getting the error:
"Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.MissingSessionIdException: The session identifier is missing. A session identifier is required for this operation."
I know what the SessionID after successfully calling the LoadReport method (ExecutionID in the ExecutionHeader) but cannot seem to pass this along to the Render method. Does anyone know how to pass that along?
This is similiar in issue to the post at http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2643092&SiteID=17 but for PHP instead of Java.
Thanks!

Hello,
I have a matrix inside a list box that groups by "question id" to display matrices with summaries for each question. I have checked the box "Insert page break after this list".
I want to be able to place the list box number next to the question, so that I will see something like:
1. Name
2. Category
3. Age
Is there a way to do this? Can I access the current number within the list? If I try the Globals!PageNumber variable, I get an error saying that the variable can only be used in a header or footer.
Thanks,
Michael

Hello All,
I need some help with a page number issue. I have a report that looks great, and runs like it is supposed to, except I cannot get the page numbers to reset properly. The report can span several document numbers in one query run, and I would like the page number to reset each time a new document number is found in the recordset. Right Now, SSRS does not seem to have this capabiliry, and I am looking for a creative solution.
Example:
What SSRS actual does:
Actual Page Document SSRS Page Display
1 Document 1 1
2 Document 1 2
3 Document 1 3
4 Document 2 4
5 Document 2 5
What I need it to do:
Actual Page Document SSRS Page Display
1 Document 1 1
2 Document 1 2
3 Document 1 3
4 Document 2 1
5 Document 2 2
Any suggestions?
Many thanks in advance!
-Tom

I know how to reset the page numbers with each group, but how do you reset the total page number within each group.
EX. Code for page of total pages
="Page " & Globals.PageNumber & " of " & Globals.TotalPages
EX. Code to reset within a group
Custom Code:
Shared offset as Integer
Shared currentgroup as object
Public Function GetGroupPageNumber(group as Object, pagenumber as Integer) as Object
If not (group = currentgroup)
offset = pagenumber - 1
currentgroup= group
end if
return pagenumber - offset
end function
=Code.GetGroupPageNumber(ReportItems!Category.Value(grouping),Globals!PageNumber)
What I need is code for a combination of the two...to display code for page of total pages that resets within a group.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Is there a way to extend the number of rows that will be returned so that Reporting services doesn't display such a large number of pages for the users to page through? It would be easier for them to "wheel mouse" through a long page on the screen.
Anyone out there have any thoughts on how this might be accomplished?
Thanks!

Hi,
I have a report where i do a page break for each supplier. I want to reset my page number to '1' when there is a group break.When i googled for this functionality i found the following chris Hay's blog which provides the solution.
http://blogs.msdn.com/chrishays/archive/2006/01/05/ResetPageNumberOnGroup.aspx
But if i follow the same, I get #Error instead of page number during the run time.How do i resolve the error?
Also, I want to display the "page 1 of totalpages in group" like that. Is that possible?
Thanks in advance
