Parameter passing in SSIS 2005 sometimes appears to be a cumbursome task. I have been digging into this topic for quite some time and here i note down some simple steps to demonstrate parameter passing at Package level.
(1) Create a SSIS project using Business Intelligence 2005 Or VS 2005.
(2) Create datasource (.ds) and Data Source View as required.
(3) A default SSIS Package by the name Package.dtsx is created. Double click this and you are shown tabs for Control Flow, Data Flow, Event Handlers, Package Explorer. On the Control Flow, drap and drop Execute SQL Task from Control Flow Items in the toolbar.
(4) Lets now create a variable at Package level. Right click anywhere in the control flow box (not on the Task created in Step 3 above). Click on the Variables on the context menu displayed. Variables window appears on the left of the screen. Click the Add Variable box in this window to create a variable. Name it var1 (or whatever you may like), Scope as Package, DataType as String and Value as MyValue. This is only the default value.
(5) Now let us edit the SQL Task created in Step 3. Double on it, on the General tab you can change its Name, Description. Set ResultSet as None. We shall proceed to execute a stored procedure by name MySPName and pass it a parameter. Set ConnectionType as OLE DB. Select the connection you creates in step 2. Set SQLSourceType as Direct input. SQLStatement as MySPName ? . Note the ? mark after the name of the stored procedure. This is important to accept the variable value (var1) created in Step 4.
(6) Select Parameter Mapping tab now. Click on Add button. Select the Variable Name as User::var1. This is the user created variable of Step 4. Select Direction as Input, DataType as Varchar and Parameter Name as @var1. Click on OK now.
(7) This sets up the basic of parameter passing. Compile the project to verify everything works. Right Click on the SQL Task and select Execute Task. This will execute the package taking default value of the variable. This can be used along with dtexec command with /set option to pass the parameter at command prompt.
public Sub Main() Dim url, destination As String destination = Dts.Variables("report_destination").Value.ToString + "" + "Report_" + Format(Now, "yyyyMMdd") + ".xls" url = "http://localhost/ReportServer?/ssis_resport_execution/ssis_ssrs_report&rs:Command=Render&ProductID=" + Dts.Variables("ProductID").Value.ToString + "&user_id" + Dts.Variables("user_id").Value.ToString + "&rs:Format=EXCEL" SaveFile(url, destination) Dts.TaskResult = ScriptResults.Success End Sub
How to pass more than one variable values in ssis as parameter values to ssrs. With the above code its showing as empty. If i am taking single variable i am able to render the data into excel sheet.
I'm calling the SSIS packages through SQL agent job. The packages have variables defined with default values. The parent packages have no package configuration. The child packages have package configuration of ‘Parent Package variable’ type The variables are being passed from the job. The job calls the parent package which loops though the child packages. I would like to know how the variables traverse through the packages and the jobs?
Another doubt not related to above. I am unable to make any changes to the connections. Whatever changes I make it is getting reverted to the original if I click elsewhere. So as a workaround I view the code in XML and change.
I tried to pass parameter from one report to another report. I can send the parameter using following option: I used jump to url option and write the following expression:
I created an SSIS package for a client that does data importing. When I run the pacakge from Visual Studio there is an error window showing all the errors and warnings. A good example of an error is if the import file is in the wrong format. When there is a error or warning can I write the error log to a file OR notify someone of the errors so they can make corrections and rerun the package OR any ideas that the client can find out what went wrong and then make corrections accordingly? Thanks
I'm new to vs.net 2005, before we switch to sql server 2005, i've been using vs.net 2003, and sql server 2000, and 3rd party sql reporting services 2000. so i use vs.net for front end, sql as back end, 3rd party as reports printed out of front end.
but now.. i have an installer of sql server 2005, and when i install it, it includes a vs.net 2005 w/c i can use also to create my reports.. but about the vb.net? does it have anything installed with it? is there a seperate installer for vb.net that i need to purchase? or maybe download from?
i created some reports from business intelligence and i have the report.. but i need to make its user interface using vb.net.. and i can't find it
I have following job script. I need to make file connection and db connection passing in job as parameter.
where in following script is should pass it.
if i am passing here but when i change path it still getting old path in package.what i needs to change in package.also how to make connection dynamic so in each env when we deploy it will automatically change. We have sql job script for each env.
I have a little problem with my IS Server.I am using IS 9.0.1399 (SSIS 2005).I have one instance for databases.I am able to connect to Integration Services just with the Servername (no Instance Name) and I see the folders in there. When I try to open the MSDB Folder (under "Stored Packages") I get the following exeption:
"Login timeout expired/An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.SQL Network Interfaces: Connection string is not valid [87]."
I have a Pivot Transform in SSIS (2005) working perfectly, EXCEPT for that the first column of the output (the date) repeats for each of the following columns, which are themselves falling into the correct column, but not on the same line for a particular date as the others. Snipet of result from Data Viewer is:
I am copying the template with header before loading the data. I tried deleting Dataflow task, Excel Connection manager etc., nothing seems to work and there are no nulls in the data. I did this several times, workaround seems to not working this time.
I have create packages which loads the data from flat file to sql server table, now I want to make my destination table connection dynamic what is format of connection string. I also need to pass user name and password for sql server dynamically in this case, what is the format for the connection string.
Also in package i used ADO.net as source for *.mdb files how i can set the commection to .mdb files dynamically which is used as source in my package.
I am using SSIS 2012 to dynamically backup stored procedures on a list of Servers and Databases. Here are the steps in my package,
1. Execute SQL Task: Captures a result set (configured to save the data set in an Object variable) with all the Servers and Databases on which stored procedures exist.
2. For each loop that is configured to get each each row(server name @[User::Server_Name] and databases name @[User::DataBase_Name]) from the object variable (@[User::Connection_Strings])and pass it to a connection manager that has an expression for servername and database name.
2a) Within the for each loop, i have an execute process task that is configured as
i) Executable: C:WindowsSystem32WindowsPowerShellv1.0powershell.exe ii) Arguments: Configured this to fetch value from an expression. The expression i am using is,'C:batch - CopyPowerShell Scripts to Backup Stored ProceduresScriptOutSPs.ps1' -$Server_Name "+ @[User::Server_Name]+ " -$Database_Name "+ @[User::DataBase_Name]
Note: @[User::Server_Name] is the Servername from object variable and so is @[User::DataBase_Name] for database name . The execute task is to run a command line that triggers a powershell script with parameters. Here is the powershell script that i am using,
When i execute the script, by passing parameters from arguments, it executes successfully but nothing happens. Passing wrong arguments in the expression?
I am having a challenge to pass the filename variable from SSIS Foreach Loop Container to SQL store procedure. I have an "Execute SQL Task" inside "Foreach Loop Container" which will receive the input filename parameter passed by the Foreach Loop Container. The store procedure command line is defined as "EXEC sp_mySQLStoreProcedure ?" within the "Execute SQL Task". The Foreach loop container will gather the filenames from File System then put it in the filename variable one by one. I would like to pass the filename variable as the input parameter to the sp_mySQLStoreProcedure in the "Execute SQL Task". How can I connect the variable and the store procedure so that it will process all the input files gathered by the Foreach Loop Container?
I have created a SSIS package which runs every hour from my Machine. First part of my Package runs a Execute SQl Task and result set (single row, single column) is a comma separated list of Unique Record Ids which have been updated in last hour. (i.e. FJ1,FJ2,FJ3) I capture this result in a variable and when I User script taks to display the value of this property, it appears as it should be.I pass this Variable to Execute SQL Task on Different ODBC Server using a Stored Procedure. My SQL Statement is as Following
call DeleteRowsById(?)
And then I have assigned my Variable (as SQL_Longvarchar) to Parameter 1 in Parameter mapping Section. (ParameterSize is -1) but it doesnt delete the records from the table. (I ran the SP manually in Workbench and it works as expected) Then i had an Idea and as part of my SP I started making entries in a Temp table just to see whats coming up as variable. Insert in the table shows only first Charecter from the variable and which is why its not deleting any records.I can not find why my variable is being truncated.
I am using a OLE DB source task and i want to setup a parameter in the select statement. Is this possible and how would this be done. I know you can pass a parameter in the where clause like:
select id, lname, fname, startDate, endDate from Employee where id = ?
How would i set startDate and endDate as parameters as i would like to be able to change these parameters when running the package. I would like to set dates in the select statement as parameters like how you would in the where clause.
Select id, lname, fname, ? startDate, ? endDate, from employee where id = ?
I would like to be able to change these dates without having to go in to the package and hard code it back in there and then deploy.
The package uses a OLE DB source to Flatfile Destination.
I tried removing and reinstalling SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition for three times, including "all-at-once" component installation and "component-by-component" and I just can't get Integration Services to install.
When I install SQL server 2005 and select the option to have Integration Services installed, I cannot see the templates in VS 2005. Is there a way to tell if they have been installed on the harddrive? Is there any way to install them manually?
How can we Integrate SQL server 2005 Report builder, Report designer in a custom .Net Application ? . Please Help me.
I want to provide Report Designer, Report builder and Query builder functionalities to my .Net application. How can I Integrate them in my application?
I am working with SQL Server 2012. I have deployed a SSIS project that has 2 packages in it. The package connection manager (Test) uses an expression to evaluate one of the Project parameter value (TestConnectionString) to set its ConnectionString property.
This works fine in a Dev environment. However when deployed to UAT, it keeps failing with the error:
PackageExport:Error: The result of the expression "@[$Project::TestConnectionString]" on property "Package.Connections[Test].Properties [ConnectionString]" cannot be written to the property. The expression was evaluated, but cannot be set on the property.
I can not seem to find what the issue could be. I have come across [URL] .... where it says: "If the package contains project parameters, the package execution may fail." but offers no solution.
Would please any here give me any advices for where can I find the SQL Server 2005 Integration Services Installation Guide? The one I found online (http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143506.aspx) is just confused me, which is just about the installation of SQL Server 2005 different version.
i have 4 different databases, in each one i have a table of customers i want to combine the 4 tables of customers from the 4 databases in a new table with eliminating similar records
Hello - We have been unable to successfully install Integration Services with an instance of SQL 2005 running on a Windows Small Business Server 2003. Installation proceeds with no errors, but when you attempt to connect to the Integrations Services and browse to where it apparently exists, the SQL Server Managment Studio returns the following error:

I have been banging my head against the wall with trying to integrate SharePoint 2007 and SQL Reporting Services. I have been following these 2 websites down to the letter in trying to configure everything:
2. http://blogs.msdn.com/sharepoint/archive/2007/02/19/microsoft-sql-server-2005-sp2-reporting-services-integration-with- wss-3-0-and-moss-2007.aspx <---SharePoint Blog Group
Basically my setup is as follows:
Server 1 = SharePoint 2007
Server 2 = SQL Server Reporting Services SP2 / SharePoint 2007 services
Server 3 = Database
Server1 is setup and running SharePoint 2007 fine with no problems. It was installed under the complete option with its own server farm. Then with the Server2, SharePoint 2007 is installed again, also under the complete complete option, and configured to join Server1's server farm. In this way, Server2 is able to supply Server1 with services and it has been said that if you are using 2 different servers, one for SharePoint and one for Reporting Services, you need to have an instance of SharePoint on the reporting services box. With a SharePoint "front-end" the reporting-services now has a way to also join Server1s farm.
This is where the headache begins....the SharePoint install is successful on Server2 and the services are started as evident through the Central Administration page. The next task is to install SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services and then the SQL Server 2005 SP2 patch.
After installing SQL Server and the SP2 patch, you go into the SQL Reporting Services Configuration Manager and setup the Report Server, Database, and SharePoint integration. I configure everything to run under the "DefaultAppPool" under IIS, and I get green accepted checkboxes on everything.
Finally, the last step is to install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services Add-in for Microsoft SharePoint Technologies on Server1. This add-in actually allows the connection between SharePoint on Server1 to the Reporting Services on Server2. The install is successful and the extra options for reporting pop up under Central Administration page. When configuring the final connection under the Central Admin I referred to the following Microsoft Page:
For the "manage integration settings", I set the report server to Server2 and use Windows Authentication. Then for the "grant database access" I use Server2 and login with my credentials...
PROBLEM: Then for the final step of setting the server defaults, I click on the link and get the following error:
"An unexpected error occurred while connecting to the report server. Verify that the report server is available and configured for SharePoint integrated mode. "
I have googled and tried installing/uninstalling several times, but it seems that I keep getting hung up here. When trying to access reports on the ReportServer, the same error message comes up.
If anyone is familiar with integration between SharePoint and SQL Reporting Services, and may have any ideas/comments/advice, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance! =)

Hello, I would love to know where people are discussing the book Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Integration Services book by Kirk Hasleden.
I'm on page 41 and I'm getting an error with the example in the "SELECT "2004" FROM Sales.vSalesPersonSalesByFiscalYears" part because there is not a table called Sales.vSalesPersonSalesByFiscalYears in the AdventureWorks database.
I need to read in general web pages (not a web service) from a typical web site using SSIS and make it available for other SSIS transformations (Script Component). I tried using the XMLSource data source but this appears to require well formed XML, and will not accept HTML which is what I am likely to be getting from the web pages. I tried a HTTP Connection Manager with a DataReader Source, but seems to only accomodate web services.
Can this be done? If someone has an example (tutorial) of how to accomplish this I would greatly appreciate a copy. James
we can assign one parameter value for each excecution of [SSISDB].[catalog].[set_object_parameter_value] by calling this catalog procedure..
Example: If I have 5 parameters in SSIS package ,to assign a value to those 5 parameters at run time should I call this [SSISDB].[catalog].[set_object_parameter_value] procedure 5 times ? or is there a way we can pass all the 5 parameters at 1 time .
1. Wondering if there is a way to pass multiple parameters in a single execution (for instance to pass XML string values ??) 2.What are the options to pass multiple parameter values to ssis package through stored procedure.?
