Parameters On Linked Report Not Updating

Jul 17, 2007

Hi,

I updated a report adding parameter expressions. A linked report based on the report I updated didn't get the parameter expressions when I deployed the base report. Anybody else having that issue? It's not much of a problem. I just have to recreate the linked report which is a nusance.

Thanks,

DD

Updating Linked Records Across DB's

Mar 28, 2006

Here's a problem that I can't find anyone else has run into. I'm usingAccess and SQL Server, but the theory would be the same for any db.I have a large number of tables that contain linked records(intersection tables mostly). In the interest of space, I'llillustrate an example:tblStudents (ID, Name)tblTeachers (ID, Name)tblClasses (ID, Name)tblEnroll (StudentID,ClassID,TeacherID)I have about 10 people who each use a separatecopy of this database (in access). I want them (at the end of eachday) to be ableto update all the records that they entered that day into a databasethat I have setup on a server (SQL Server 2005). Both databases havethe exact same structure.Caveat 1: All of the classes, students, and teachers are not the sameon each database, but the server database should contain all of them.Caveat 2: There is no way for the clients to automatically insert intothe server, they are offsite and out of range.Herein lies the problem: when a record is inserted into the server froma client, all of the links are lost since the ID will be different onthe server that it was on the client.I don't think a simple update / insert query will work, and most db'sand languages don't play nice with recordset appends. What are your thoughts??

Linked Reports Not Updating?

Apr 11, 2008

Perhaps i'm missing something but when i update the master report and then go and run the linked report, it's not updating? Is this a known issue?

If i update the master and re-link the linked report, then all is well? Shouldn't the linked report reflect the master report in real-time and i shouldn't have to re-link the report?

Am i the only one having this problem? Thanks!

Updating A Linked Table?

Sep 4, 2006

Hello

I have an SQL 2005 Express table with the fields DocID (Unique), DocTitle, DocPath and DocSubmitter.

I am using a Web Form to insert records, I can do the Title (textbox) and Path (FileUpload) no problem.

The submitter is linked via a submitterID relationship to another table, submitters. So it will be expecting a number (1-30) not a name as listed in a dropdown list on the web form.

How do I update this field???

Thanks, Mark

Updating A Linked Table In Access

May 26, 1999

I currently have a database that I can update in Microsoft Access by going into datasheet view of the table and just changing the value of a given field.

Here is the problem. I have made a copy of this database by backing it up and restoring to a new database. Now when I go into Access datasheet view to update, I get the following error: "ODBC--update on a linked table '<tablename>' failed". I have tried restoring to a database on the same server as well as others and have checked for differences set for each database as well as differneces in indexes. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Updating/getting Values From Datagrid In C# With Variable Parameters

Oct 24, 2006

HiI am new to the world of aspx, .net and C#.In aspx .net 2.0. I am trying to work out how to get a datagrid to perform an update. Using Visual Developer I have successfully added the control and specifed a select statement to return data via my SQLData Source. This works fine. However having specifed the control as editable I would like to perform an update through the datagrid and SQLDatasource. I see in the properties for the SQLDatasource object I can specify my update statement. However I do not understand how to get that update statement to have variable values and how newly entered values from the grid can be placed into these variables when the update takes place. Can someone please point me in the right direction? I have not found the MS doc very illuminating thus far and have not found any examples. Many ThanksT

Adding Parameters During .updating Event Handler

May 29, 2007

Not receiving any errors. The update runs perfectly on all fields, except for the added parameter during the sub. I need to change the hidden field's value after parsing out several fields in the form and generating a logfile entry of sorts. This needs to happen after all the form fields are updated, but before the update is executed.

Report Builder Using Report Model Based On Linked Server (Excel) - Primary Key?

Sep 6, 2007

I've created a linked server with a pretty basic Excel spreadsheet, and used this command to create a linked server to it:

sp_addlinkedserver ''XL_SPS_1', 'Excel', 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0', 'c:MyExcel.xls', null, 'Excel 8.0'

I want to use this as the data from which to build a report model. As linked servers don't show up in the Data Source View wizard, I created a view in SQL Server:

create view MyExcel
as
select * from XL_SPS_1...Sheet1$

Okay, great, now the view shows up in the DSV wizard and I can create the data source view. However, when I create a new report model based on this data source view, the Report Model Wizard tells me at "Create entities for all tables" that I've got an error when it processes dbo_MyExcel that "Table does not have a primary key."

I assume this is where the identifying attributes for the entities in the report model are taken from, so I really can't go further. Does anyone have an idea as to how to add a primary key to a linked server (Excel) in SQL 2005? Can this be done? Other than importing spreadsheet data to a SQL table, how can I get around this?

Thanks,

Reporting Services :: SSRS Linked Report Based On Calculated Field From Main Report

Oct 6, 2015

How do I get data on my linked report based on my grouped subtotal and grand total from the main report. The subtotal and grand total are calculated columns.

I have a 3 columns in my matrix in the SSRS summary report. Actn_COAST, ActnCITY and NumbOfAccts.

The following is code for my summary report. The results are shown below.

SELECT Distinct ActnCITY, Count(ACCT) as NumbOfAccts,
CASE WHEN ActnCITY in ('NY', 'OH', IN, 'NJ', 'SC', 'NC') THEN 'EAST COAST'
WHEN ActnCITY IN ('CA'. 'NV', 'UT', 'WA', 'OR') THEN 'WEST COAST'
ELSE 'OTHER'
END AS Actn_COAST

FROM tbl1
where ACTNDATE between @STARTDT and @EndDT

Code for my detail report contains the following SQL

SELECT * FROM tbl1 where ACTNDATE between @STARTDT and @EndDT AND @ActnCITY = ActnCITY

I have linked my report based on the NumbOfAccts column. I am able to get data if I click any of the NumbOfAccts values related to the state I want. However when I am not sure how to make the subtotal and grand total work. I want when I click on the subtotal of either coast, I should be able to see records of that coast e.g., if I select 37 I should be able to see all the records in East Coast. If I click on the Grand Total, I only want data related to those 2 coasts.

Passing Report Parameters To An SSRS 2005 Report Hosted In Sharepoint 2007

Nov 18, 2007

Here is a situation in my company:

We have an Office SharePoint 2007 site, we developed a couple of web parts and added them to our site. We used SQL Server Reporting services 2005 as our reporting solution. The reports are hosted on the report center and when we need a report, we open it by sending a URL requesting the report, passing the report parameters in the URL query string. So the report is filtered based on the parameters passed from the web parts.

But since best practices say that you should host reports directly under SharePoint, by configuring the reporting services to run in the SharePoint integrated mode. We followed the steps and installed SharePointRS and we finally succeeded to publish the reports to a SharePoint folder, but we had a limitation: we are unable to pass the report parameters internally to the report hosted in SharePoint. If we passed them in the query string as the report center case, SharePoint neglects them totally.
So the question is: how can I pass parameters internally between a SharePoint web part and a SQL server 2005 reporting services report hosted in SharePoint?

Reporting Services :: Passing Cascaded Parameters From Main Report To Drill Through Report In SSRS?

Sep 16, 2015

I am trying to develop a report from cube, and it has one drill through report.when i click on sales amount field on main report, then it open the drill through report with details. Here i passed the **(category, subcat, product)parameters(Cascaded)** to drill through report in action part of main report. In my main report i have two columns .

columns are **Level** and **Salesamount**.

Values are like

**[-]category** **100**
    **[-]subcat** **50**
         **product** **30**

when i click on 100, parameters are passed & it open the detail report correctly, but when i click on 50,the values for subcat parameter is not getting values in detail report and same as the product also.

Here i used the expressions in parameter values

**pCategory**----iif(inscope(category),!fields.category.value,split(join(Parameters!category.value,","),","))

**psubcat**----iif(inscope(subcat),!fields.subcat.value,split(join(Parameters!subcat.value,","),","))

**pproduct**----iif(inscope(product),!fields.product.value,split(join(Parameters!product.value,","),","))

Query A Linked Server With Parameters

Apr 20, 2001

I need to query a linked server (which is Oracle) with some parameters. When I try to use a four part SQL statement, it does not work. But when I try to use OPEENQUERY statement, it works just fine. Problem comes when I need to send some parameters with the OPENQUERY'S 'query' part.

For example, the following statement works just fine:

SELECT *
FROM OPENQUERY(OracleLinked, "SELECT ACCOUNTNUMBER, POSTINGDATE FROM ORA_SERVER.FINANCEENTRY WHERE DATEOFENTRY BETWEEN '2000.01.01' AND '2000.01.31'")

But If I try to use:

DECLARE @DynamicSQL VARCHAR(1000),
@StartDate VARCHAR(10),
@EndDate VARCHAR(10)
SET @StartDate = '2000.01.01'
SET @EndDate = '2000.01.31'

SELECT @DynamicSQL = "SELECT ACCOUNTNUMBER, POSTINGDATE FROM ORA_SERVER.FINANCEENTRY WHERE DATEOFENTRY BETWEEN '" + @StartDate + "' AND '" + @EndDate + "'"
--SELECT @DynamicSQL

SELECT *
FROM OPENQUERY(OracleLinked, @DynamicSQL)

it does not work.

Well, I did some research and found out that OPENQUERY does not accept variables for its arguments. See the link below:(http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/psdk/sql/ts_oa-oz_5xix.htm)

Then is there any way I can accomplish what I want to on the Remote server?

Thanks in advance for your help.

SQL 7.0 Compatibility &&/or Linked Server Parameters

Jan 31, 2007

Hi, don't know if anyone can help me but I desperately need to roll a report out which relies on an SQL 7.0 datasource.

Current situation - Reporting Services 2000 up and running on an SQL 2000 box - no problems getting reports to run from the native machine but I cannot get the thing to make a hop to our SQL 7.0 box.

I've created three data sources - OLEDB, Native and ODBC. For the OLEDB and Native I am getting a DATABASEPROPERTYEX error - I assume here that reporting services is polling the SQL 7.0 box with an unsupported method.

For ODBC I CANNOT get the parameters to work - I've read all sorts of stuff about using unnamed parameters, so I've put a ? in the query and I'm getting Invalid parameter number and invalid parameter number errors (I suspect it is getting a bit confused, but then so am I).

So I thought I'd try a linked server, sure enough with a fixed parameter I can get through the linked server no problem, but again I can't work out the syntax/series of events needed to use a parameter with this, I'm starting to suspect it can't be done with an Exec statement.

So - first question - is there any way around the DBPROPERTY EX problem so I can use OLEDB/SQL Client connectivity and secondly please can someone explain what exactly has to go in the parameters box when I press ... on the data source box, 'cos it's doing my head in.

Thanks

Rich

Pass The Parameters From Main Report To Drillthrough Report

Nov 28, 2007

Good morning, all

I have a really cool Budget report which has two matrices on it. One is used/visible if the user selects four levels of grouping, and one is used if the user selects only three levels of grouping. The four choices for grouping are four fields, Par, FERC, Point, and Resource.

Since grouping is optional, I need a way to pass the parameter for a field that is not grouped on from the main report to the drillthrough report. For example if the user chooses to group on all fields but Point, I need to pass the report parameter that was used by the main report for Point to the drillthrough report as a report parameter.

So, I tried testing the three grouping levels values and if none were equal to "Point" then pass in the parameter by putting the following expression in the Parameter Value box for the Point parameter on the Navigation tab of the datacell of the main report that is the drillthrough link:

=iif(
Parameters!GroupLevel1.Value <> "Point"
and
Parameters!GroupLevel2.Value<>"Point"
and
Parameters!GroupLevel3.Value<>"Point"
,
Join(Parameters!PNTPoint.Value,",")
,
Fields!Point.UniqueName
)

But this is not working; the drillthrough report shows a blank dropdown for the Point parameter and I have to manually set it. Does anyone see an error in the syntax of the iif statement?

Any references, links, resources or good clean jokes would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Kathryn

Customise Report Parameters In Report Manager

Feb 7, 2007

Is it possible to add custom controls in for parameters in report manager??

I have a parameter that requires the user to click a button and select a bunch of things in another form. How can i do this in reporting services??

I also would like to change the layout of the parameters toolbar, ie. make text boxes smaller widths, show/hide parameters based on other parameter values.

I know i could write my own web page that does this and hide the parameters toolbar when they run the report, but this would mean that we lose other functionality that report manager has, eg. scheduling.

Does anyone know if customising the report manager will become available in a later version??

Report Not Updating

I'm testing a report. I find I need a few more data rows so I add some data to my fact table and process the cube. When I go back to SSRS and open the report the new data is NOT included. I hit "View Report", no new data. IF I select a different month (parameter) and view that report and then go back to my original month the new data IS NOW THERE.

Is there some sort of caching setting I'm missing???

Report Parameters And Jump To Report

Jan 15, 2007

Greetings,

I have two reports, Report A and Report B.

Report A has two parameters defined as "Prompted", meaning the report input area is available for the user.

Report A parameters ---> StartDate, EndDate

When Report B invokes Report A using the Jump To Report Functionality and passing Report B's StartDate and EndDate parameters, Report A seems to think the parameters are implied and not needed and fails to drop down the parameter input area.

This is not desired because the user should be able to change report A's parameters.

Anyone know a workaround?

Updating Report Templates Without Losing Subscriptions

Feb 14, 2007

Hello,

We are using Reporting services 2005 and have been for some time. Recently we have started using the subscriptions as well. However we have come across a problem with this.

Currently we are updating our report templates by removing them and then creating them again. This worked fine until we started using subscriptions. Now, when the reports are removed, the subscriptions that are associated with the reports are also removed.

Is there a way to update a report template, without having to remove the report first? And can this be done programmatically? The code is currently publishing the reports by calling ReportingService2005.CreateReport(name, "/" + reportFolder, false, template, null);

Thanks,
Denise.

Updating Sql Database From Linked Access Database

Jul 1, 2004

I got thrown into a new project that is going to require me to update an SQL server database tables from an Access table on the backend of an Oracle database on another server. At the end of each day the Access dabase will be updated from the Oracle database.

What I need to do, is when the Access database is updated I need to have the table in the SQL database automaticaly updated. When a new record is added to the Access table I need the new record added to the SQL table. When a record is deleted in the Access table I need to keep that record in the SQL table and set a field to a value (such as 0). And when a record is updated in Access, have it updated in SQL.

Needless to say this is a bit out of my area and not sure how to accomplish this.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Report Parameters

hi there

I am using Reporting Services 2005.

I have 3 report parameters: startdate, enddate, callstatus

My problem is that once I added callstatus to the parameter list my dates were ignored?

What do I need to do to correct it?

My select code is as below:

SELECT Ticket.TicketNumber, Application.ApplicationName, Status.StatusName, Ticket.LastModifiedBy, CONVERT(datetime, Ticket.CreatedDate),
Company.CompanyName
FROM Ticket INNER JOIN
Application ON Ticket.ApplicationID = Application.ApplicationID INNER JOIN
Status ON Ticket.StatusID = Status.StatusID INNER JOIN
Company ON Application.CompanyID = Company.CompanyID
WHERE (CONVERT(datetime, Ticket.CreatedDate) >= @StartDate) AND (CONVERT(datetime, Ticket.CreatedDate) <= @EndDate) AND
(Status.StatusName IN (@CallStatus)) OR
('SELECT ALL' IN (@CallStatus))

My report Parameters have the values listed in the Non-queried part on report parameters
