DB2 CLOBs And BLOBs To SQL Server TEXT And IMAGE Via SSIS

Aug 13, 2007

I'm trying to write SSIS packages to import DB2 6000 tables to SQL Server 2005 tables. The package vendor has defined CLOB and BLOB datatypes for columns in the DB2 tables, and going through the Data Flow tasks from OLE DB for DB2 to OLE DB for SQL Server, it tries to map CLOBs to TEXT columns, and BLOBs to IMAGE columns. The vendor has no conversion utility available, so I have to write the SSIS packages. However, the task generates a goodly number of errors just trying to open the OLE DB DB2 dataset. Errors like the following:

Error: 0xC0202009 at Set 5 1 2, DB2 vendor_master [7127]: An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E21.

An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft DB2 OLE DB Provider" Hresult: 0x80040E21 Description: "Multiple-step OLE DB operation generated errors. Check each OLE DB status value, if available. No work was done.".

Error: 0xC0208265 at Set 5 1 2, DB2 vendor_master [7127]: Failed to retrieve long data for column "COMPETITOR_COMMENT".

Error: 0xC020901C at Set 5 1 2, DB2 vendor_master [7127]: There was an error with output column "COMPETITOR_COMMENT" (8866) on output "OLE DB Source Output" (7138). The column status returned was: "DBSTATUS_UNAVAILABLE".

Error: 0xC0209029 at Set 5 1 2, DB2 vendor_master [7127]: The "output column "COMPETITOR_COMMENT" (8866)" failed because error code 0xC0209071 occurred, and the error row disposition on "output column "COMPETITOR_COMMENT" (8866)" specifies failure on error. An error occurred on the specified object of the specified component.

Error: 0xC0047038 at Set 5 1 2, DTS.Pipeline: The PrimeOutput method on component "DB2 vendor_master" (7127) returned error code 0xC0209029. The component returned a failure code when the pipeline engine called PrimeOutput(). The meaning of the failure code is defined by the component, but the error is fatal and the pipeline stopped executing.

Error: 0xC0047021 at Set 5 1 2, DTS.Pipeline: Thread "SourceThread0" has exited with error code 0xC0047038.

Error: 0xC0047039 at Set 5 1 2, DTS.Pipeline: Thread "WorkThread0" received a shutdown signal and is terminating. The user requested a shutdown, or an error in another thread is causing the pipeline to shutdown.

Error: 0xC0047021 at Set 5 1 2, DTS.Pipeline: Thread "WorkThread0" has exited with error code 0xC0047039.

Information: 0x40043008 at Set 5 1 2, DTS.Pipeline: Post Execute phase is beginning.

In this case, 'COMPTETITOR_COMMENT' is defined as a CLOB(2 M) column format in the DB2 database table, and the output format in the SQL Server 2005 table is defined as a TEXT column.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Problem With Text Field: Text Input Too Long, Weird Characters

May 15, 2006

Hi,

Im a programmer for an university webportal which uses php and msssql.
When an user creates a new entry and his text is too long the entry is cut short and weird characters appear at the end of the entry.

For example:
http://www.ttz.uni-magdeburg.de/scripts/test-messedb/php/index.php?option=show_presse&funktion=presse_show_mitteilung&id=333

How can I set the text limit to unlimited?
Could it be something else?
Is there a way of splitting an entry to several text fields automatically?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me,
Chris

Managing Ntext, Text With A Long Text Data

Aug 25, 2005

Hi,I have a problem to insert(update) a long text (more than 64K) intoSQL 2000 (datatype - 'text'). It cuts the data and insert only 64K.MSDN says: "When the ntext, text, and image data values get larger, however, they must be handled on a block-by-block basis. BothTransact-SQL and the database APIs contain functions that allow applications towork with ntext, text, and image data block by block." Could somebodygive me an example how to do this, please.Thank you

Parsing A Text Field Value Into More Than 1 Value

May 9, 2006

Hi,

My table has 2 fields as 'count' and 'codes'. The 'codes' field has 'count' # of code values in each record. Size of each code is 4. For example, if my record is 2,'abcdefgh' then there are 2 codes and the values are 'abcd' and 'efgh'.

Currently I am using 'script component' to parse the field into multiple values. Since I have to read 1 million records and on an average, each record has 10 codes, it is taking hrs to load it.

Can it be done without 'script component' using some other transformations?

Thanks.

Parsing Text File And Inserting Into DB

Mar 19, 2008

Hello all,
I have a question regarding importing text file data into SQL Server.  I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction, as my searches haven't turned up anything specific enough.
I'm trying to parse a large (24MB) text file.  It's a fixed-width file, with multiple columns.  I need to parse this file, check if a record already exists, and then import the data into the database.  But I don't need to insert every column.  There's only a few columns from the file I need to insert.  This parsing also needs to occur at regular intervals (daily).
I looked at BULK INSERT, but I can't find an example that uses only some of the columns.  Every example uses all columns, and the file is delimited, not fixed-width.
Is there anything within SQL Server that can accomplish this?  I haven't turned up anything that will solve my problem.  The only other solution I can think of is an application that parses the file for me and inserts the data into the database.  But can I schedule that application to run every night at midnight (for example) through SQL Server?
I'm not too familiar with SQL Server, so I appreciate any help offered.
Thanks,Jay

Need Suggestions On Text File Parsing Into Database

Feb 28, 2007

I have a website, where people upload tab delimited text files of their product inventories, which the site parses and inserts into a database table.  Here's the catch: Instead of insisting that each user use a standardized format, each user can upload the file in whatever column order they want, they just have to let the site know through a GUI which column is in which order.   And, they may upload columns that if not mapped, will be ignored.  Right now, I am doing all of this in code and it runs slow, I was thinking of offloading this to either a stored procedure, ssis, or bulk upload.   But, with the varying format of the uploaded text file, I am not sure how I could do that.  Any suggestions? Thanks!

SQL Server 2008 :: Text String Parsing To Apply Operators To Datasets?

Aug 7, 2015

I have a problem at the moment, where the client wants to be able to type in a custom algebraic formula with add/minus operators, and then to have this interpreted, so that the related datasets are then added and returned as a single dataset.

An example would be having a formula stored of [a] + [b] - [c]

and if I were to write the SQL to apply that formula, I might write something like (let's assume 1:1 relationships with the ID's)

select a.a + b.b - c.c as [result]
from z
inner join tblA a on z.id = a.id
inner join tblB b on z.id = b.id
inner join tblC c on z.id = c.id

The formula can change though, maybe things like:

[a] + [b] + [c] + [d]
[a] + [b]

The developer before me wrote something SQL-based where they parsed the string and assigned each value of the formula as either positive or negative (e.g A is positive, B is positive, C is negative, now sum the datasets to get the result), and then created one large table of values then summed them. This does (kind of) work, I'm just contemplating potential alternatives, as it is quite a slow process, and feels like it is quite convoluted, when I get into the details. If I were to do something like this in SQL, I'd normally want each part of the expression to be a column, and then to just apply the operators, but because the formula can change, then the SQL would need to be somehow dynamic for this approach.

You should use readtext and writetext to access text column. By the way, nchar and nvarchar can hold up to 4000 characteres.

Split Long Text

Nov 20, 2007

Good day,

I have a database table that is populated by bulk insert of a text file. This file is not comma delimetated and there are no line end characters, just one very long string, although the file is fixed length.

As I said I now have this long string in my SQL Server 2005 table. Is there a fast way to split this up into multiple rows?

Say for instance I have a string of 100 characters and each row would be made up of 10 characters. Is there a easy way to split this into the 10 rows or 10 characters using just a SQL statement?

Please can someone help.
Thanks

&<Long Text&> Entry

Mar 12, 2008

Hi all,

Newbie here, just wanted to get that out of the way first
and foremost.

Im trying to set up a DB in SQL 2000 that allows me to enter
lots of text into a column.

I read one site where it said to use the NTText datatype with a length
of 16. I did that, but everytime I enter alot of text into that column
I get <Long Text> and I dont know how to output that or even
read it.

Do any of you guys know how to either:

1. get the text out of the <long text> or
2. a better way to store that much data.

Thank you in advance!!!

Text Too Long To Be Edited

Oct 10, 2006

Hi,I asked this in an MS Access newsgroup, but no one has answered. Since italso applies to SQL Server, maybe someone in here has an answer? I actuallydo have the same problem in both SQL Server 2000 and Access 2000.When I click in certain records in a memo field, I get the error message"text too long to be edited", and I can't get into the record to make anychanges.I tried exporting the record to html, but only part of the memo field isexported.I know that in SQL Server, you can increase the size of the field, but youcan't do that in an Access memo field (that I know of!).I'm thinking that if I could get into the field and lose some of the whitespace, it would help, but I can't get into the field, and can't get the dataout, either!Does anyone know anything about this? Thanks, Jill~

Extremely Long Lines Of Text

Sep 25, 2006

I have a dtsx package that works fine with one exception. When I open the dtsx package in BI, it gives me the following message:

Document contains one or more extremely long lines of text. These lines will cause the editor to respond slowly when you open the file. Do you still want to open the file?

When I respond yes, the package opens and I can edit or execute with no problem. Still, I want to understand what could cause this message to occur and, more importantly, how I can get rid of the message. When I try to simply execute the package I still get the same error and it seems this will be a problem for trying to run the package from SQL Server agent.

It seems likely to me that this message refers to the dtsx file (in xml format) itself. Does that make any sense?
