Pass An Array To A Stored Proc?

Oct 13, 2000

In my front end, I have a procedure in which the operator selects multiple tickets. I have in mind to create a stored procedure which accepts its input parameter and plugs it into an IN() clause in an Update statement, something along these lines:

Update TicketInventory Set SalesID = 12345 Where TicketInventoryID IN( myInputParam );

Can I pass an array of Integers into a stored proc and have it work like this? Alternatively, I could pass a comma-delimited string containing the Integers. Could I plug that into the IN()? Or is there is yet another way to accomplish this?

TIA,
Arthur

Can't Pass In GUID When Using Execute Stored Proc In VS 2008

Apr 8, 2008

I am trying to test a stored proc and I can't execute the stored proc when I use a Guid. Has anyboyd had the same problem. I right click in VS 2008 on the Stored proc click Execute and fill in the variables one of them is a Guid and no records are returned.

Here is my guid, I have tried '{0a5c25fa-3aac-4abc-8d07-6d76ab46c9b2}', {0a5c25fa-3aac-4abc-8d07-6d76ab46c9b2} and "0a5c25fa-3aac-4abc-8d07-6d76ab46c9b2" no success. This stored proc might not work but I have had the same issue with other stored procs when I wanted to test them by using execute and using a Guid.

Testing with an int works fine when I try to Select the records by UserID which is a Guid no cigar. I have notice this behavier before is there a way around this problem, thanks newbie

How To Pass NULL To SQLdatasource Stored Param

Sep 23, 2007

I'm developing a web app using VS2005.  I have a webpage with panel containing a gridview populated by a SQLdatasource.  The SQLdatasource in turn is populated by a stored procedure that can take up to 5 parameters.  The user types in up to 5 separate words (searchterms) in a text box which are then parsed and passed to the stored proc in the datasource which performs a fulltext search.  The gridview then becomes visible.  My problem is that unless the user types in 5 searchterms (no less), the gridview returns zero rows.  5 searchterms returns the proper results.  Somehow, I need to be able to pass in null or empty values for unneeded parameters.
I've tested the stored procedure in Query Analyzer and from within the SQLdatasource configuration (using Test Query) using 0 up to 5 parameters and it works fine, so that's not my problem.  Here's the code that runs after the user types in their search term(s) and presses a button:Public Sub FTSearch_Command(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As CommandEventArgs) Handles btnFullText.Command
Dim x As Integer
pnlFullText.Visible = Falsefiltertext = Replace(txtSearchTxt.Text, "'", "''")
If Not filtertext Is Nothing Then
filtertext = filtertext.Trim
Else
Return
End IfDim arrayString() As String = filtertext.Split(" ")
Dim length As Integer = arrayString.LengthFor x = 0 To (length - 1)
If Not arrayString(x) Is Nothing ThenSelect Case x
Case 0 : lblFTParm1.Text = arrayString(0)Case 1 : lblFTParm2.Text = arrayString(1)
Case 2 : lblFTParm3.Text = arrayString(2)Case 3 : lblFTParm4.Text = arrayString(3)
Case 4 : lblFTParm5.Text = arrayString(4)
End Select
End If
Next
pnlFullText.Visible = "True"
End Sub
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

SQL 2012 :: Pass List Items To Stored Proc As Comma Separated Parameter - Foreach Loop

Feb 11, 2015

I have a multiselect checkbox list in my UI. I pass the list items to my stored proc as comma separated parameter and then I have a function which converts this parameter to a table with separate rows.

E.g. : a,b,c,d

Converted to result table

result
a
b
c
d

I want to insert each row of the result table into another table. How to do that.

E.g., the table after the function is :

CREATE TABLE #result
(
Subject varchar(100)
)

insert into #result values ('a')
insert into #result values ('b')
insert into #result values ('c')
insert into #result values ('d')

So the pseudo code is something like

for each row in #result

insert row into another table

Call To Stored Proc Returning Null Datatable

Jun 6, 2007

However, when I call it via code (C#) it is returning a null table which leads me to believe the problem is in my code.  I'm not getting any errors during runtime.  Any help at all would be a BIG help!

        DataTable table = (GenericDataAccess.ExecuteSelectCommand(comm));        return table; }
public static DataTable ExecuteSelectCommand(DbCommand command)    {        // The DataTable to be returned         DataTable table;        // Execute the command making sure the connection gets closed in the end        try        {            // Open the data connection             command.Connection.Open();            // Execute the command and save the results in a DataTable            DbDataReader reader = command.ExecuteReader();            table = new DataTable();            table.Load(reader);            // Close the reader             reader.Close();        }        catch (Exception ex)        {            Utilities.SendErrorLogEmail(ex);            throw ex;        }        finally        {            // Close the connection            command.Connection.Close();        }        return table;    }

Select Statement Returns Null In Stored Proc

Feb 22, 2006

If I run this statement in Query Analyzer, it properly returns 1for my testing table. But if I put the statement into a storedprocedure, the stored procedure returns NULL. What am I doingwrong? I suspect it may be related to how I defined the parametersfor the stored procedure. Perhaps my definition of TableName andColumnName don't match what COLUMNPROPERTY and OBJECT_ID expect toreceive, but I don't know where to look for the function declarationsfor those. Any pointers would be appreciated.Select statement:SELECT COLUMNPROPERTY(OBJECT_ID('Table1'), 'TestID', 'IsIdentity') ASIsIdentityTable definition:CREATE TABLE [dbo].[Table1] ([TestID] [numeric](18, 0) IDENTITY (1, 1) NOT NULL ,[Description] [varchar] (50) COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS NOT NULL) ON [PRIMARY]Stored Procedure definition:CREATE PROCEDURE spTest(@TableName varchar,@ColumnName varchar)AS SELECT COLUMNPROPERTY(OBJECT_ID(@TableName), @ColumnName,'IsIdentity') AS IsIdentity

Can You Trace Into A Stored Proc? Also Does RAISERROR Terminate The Stored Proc Execution.

Feb 13, 2008

I am working with a large application and am trying to track down a bug. I believe an error that occurs in the stored procedure isbubbling back up to the application and is causing the application not to run. Don't ask why, but we do not have some of the sourcecode that was used to build the application, so I am not able to trace into the code.
So basically I want to examine the stored procedure. If I run the stored procedure through Query Analyzer, I get the following error message:
Msg 2758, Level 16, State 1, Procedure GetPortalSettings, Line 74RAISERROR could not locate entry for error 60002 in sysmessages.
(1 row(s) affected)
(1 row(s) affected)
I don't know if the error message is sufficient enough to cause the application from not running? Does anyone know? If the RAISERROR occursmdiway through the stored procedure, does the stored procedure terminate execution?
Also, Is there a way to trace into a stored procedure through Query Analyzer?
-------------------------------------------As a side note, below is a small portion of my stored proc where the error is being raised:
SELECT  @PortalPermissionValue = isnull(max(PermissionValue),0)FROM Permission, PermissionType, #GroupsWHERE Permission.ResourceId = @PortalIdAND  Permission.PartyId = #Groups.PartyIdAND Permission.PermissionTypeId = PermissionType.PermissionTypeId
IF @PortalPermissionValue = 0BEGIN RAISERROR (60002, 16, 1) return -3END

Cannot Pass The Table Name To A Proc

Sep 27, 2000

I am writing a (very simple) stored procedure that counts records on a table. The stored proc is as follows:
------------------------------------------
CREATE PROCEDURE GetRecordCount
@TableName varchar(30),
@NumRecs int OUTPUT
AS

DECLARE @sqlcmd varchar(250)
SET @sqlcmd = 'SELECT @NumRecs = COUNT(email)
FROM ' + @TableName + 'WHERE Include = "Y"'
EXEC (@sqlcmd)
------------------------------------------
The intention is to return variable @NumRecs. I am calling the routine from Query Analyzer as follows:

DECLARE @MyNumber int
EXEC GetRecordCount "MYTABLE", @NumRecs = @MyNumber OUTPUT
PRINT @MyNumber

When I execute the above line, I get an error message:
Server: Msg 137, Level 15, State 1, Line 0
Must declare the variable '@NumRecs'.

If I replace the "SET @sqlcmd = .." AND "EXEC(.." with:
SELECT SELECT @NumRecs = COUNT(email)
FROM MyTable etc.
i.e. without passing the table name, the process works fine. How can I construct an sql command using a parameter?

Install Mirroring Stored Procedures Without Mgmt Studio?

Jun 26, 2007

Although I've got a fine running mirror between my clustered 2005 sp1 SQL box in Tampa, and my DR box in Dallas, I cannot run mirroring monitor. It fails with "no data received" in all fields.

Likewise, I cannot run "sp_dbmmonitorresults" or in fact any "sp_dbm*" stored procedure.....because none of them exist on the server.

A fast perusal of our various SQL 2005 servers reveals that only those servers that also have the SQL Server Management Studio installed to them have any of the mirroring system stored procedures as well.

This poses a dilemma for me. I have a serious need to monitor mirroring, however I work in a very sensitive industry with uber security, and we simply cannot be permitted to install SQL Server Management Studio on a SQL server that contains production data.

I presume that it is in fact these system stored procedures that enable the graphical Mirroring Monitor, explaining the failure.

Is there a method whereby I can get these system stored procedures installed to the clustered SQL server all by themselves? Installing and then uninstalling the Management Studio is *not* an option. Thanks!

Could anyone shed some light on what I need to do to get this to work?

Stored Proc Question : Why If Exisits...Drop...Create Proc?

Jun 15, 2006

Hi All,Quick question, I have always heard it best practice to check for exist, ifso, drop, then create the proc. I just wanted to know why that's a bestpractice. I am trying to put that theory in place at my work, but they areasking for a good reason to do this before actually implementing. All Icould think of was that so when you're creating a proc you won't get anerror if the procedure already exists, but doesn't it also have to do withCompilation and perhaps Execution. Does anyone have a good argument fordoing stored procs this way? All feedback is appreciated.TIA,~CK

How To Pass Null Value To Sqlserver

Jun 4, 2008

hi i am using formview
i have a date field textbox which selects date from ajax calender
now my point is when i make this field blank
at that time in my gridview rather then displaying the date field blank
it shows me the value 1 Jan 1900
this is the default date of sqlserver which it returns when we leave the field ''
now when i pass the value null it automatically takes it as ''
in my class file my function is
public object checkdate(TextBox txtdate)        {            if (txtdate.Text == "")            {                return null;            }            else            {               return txtdate.Text;            }        }
in my cs file i wrote  object checkemptydate = obj.checkdate(nextvaccinationdate);
string values = patientID + ",'" + vaccination + "',convert(varchar,'" + vaccinationdate + "',106)," + checkemptydate + ",'" + remarks + "'";
note that i even tried this too
string values = patientID + ",'" + vaccination + "',convert(varchar,'" + vaccinationdate + "',106)," + null + ",'" + remarks + "'";
and
string values = patientID + ",'" + vaccination + "',convert(varchar,'" + vaccinationdate + "',106),convert(varchar,'" + checkemptydate + "',106),'" + remarks + "'";
but nothing is working it passes '' not null
how could i solve this problem?

ASP Cannot Run Stored Proc Until The Web User Has Run The Proc In Query Analyzer

Feb 23, 2007

I have an ASP that has been working fine for several months, but itsuddenly broke. I wonder if windows update has installed some securitypatch that is causing it.The problem is that I am calling a stored procedure via an ASP(classic, not .NET) , but nothing happens. The procedure doesn't work,and I don't get any error messages.I've tried dropping and re-creating the user and permissions, to noavail. If it was a permissions problem, there would be an errormessage. I trace the calls in Profiler, and it has no complaints. Thedatabase is getting the stored proc call.I finally got it to work again, but this is not a viable solution forour production environment:1. response.write the SQL call to the stored procedure from the ASPand copy the text to the clipboard.2. log in to QueryAnalyzer using the same user as used by the ASP.3. paste and run the SQL call to the stored proc in query analyzer.After I have done this, it not only works in Query Analyzer, but thenthe ASP works too. It continues to work, even after I reboot themachine. This is truly bizzare and has us stumped. My hunch is thatwindows update installed something that has created this issue, but Ihave not been able to track it down.

SQL Server Stored Proc Question

Jul 26, 2004

Can anyone help me? I'm trying to assign @totalvisits the sum of visits.totalvisits in the example below. I keep getting errors concerning the line

"@totalvisits= Sum(visits.totalvisits) AS SumOfTotalVisits"

I can't figure out how to write it out correctly so the sum fills @totalvisits.

--------------------------------------------------

DECLARE @email varchar (50)
DECLARE @totalvisits int

SELECT
@email = users.email,
@totalvisits= Sum(visits.totalvisits) AS SumOfTotalVisits
LEFT JOIN visits ON users.username = visits.username
GROUP BY users.username HAVING ((users.username) = @username)

--------------------------------------------------

Any help would be appreciated!
