Passing SqlDataSource Object An Array As A Parameter

Feb 22, 2007

Hi,

I am trying to get the selected options from a listbox and either pass a SqlDataSource object the array or loop through it and pass each element of the array. I then need to modify the returned databtable to graphing function, but first drop the last column. I was wondering if anyone can help me with the following:

1. Pass an array into SqlDataSource Select OR
2. Pass a single argument into the Select statement and populate a datatable without it writing over the current row each time it iterates through the foreach statement. I am looking for the dataview to append to dt each time it loops. Is there a property for dataview that behaves like the "ClearBeforeFill" for table adapters?
3. Update a parameter programmatically

Below code works, but I think it can be more efficient. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!!

        DataTable dt = new DataTable();
        DataTable dt2 = new DataTable();
        DataView dv = new DataView();

       foreach(ListItem liOptions in ListBox1.Items)
       {
             if(liOptions.Selected)
             {
                   SqlDataSource1.SelectParameters.Add("Parameter1", liOptions);
                   dv = (DataView)SqlDataSource1.Select(DataSourceSelectArguments.Empty);
                   dt2 = dv.Table;
                   dt.Merge(dt2);
                   dt2.Dispose();
                   SqlDataSource1.SelectParameters.Clear();
             }
       }

        if (dt.Rows.Count > 0)
        {
           Graph(dt);                             //Pass original datatable (dt) to Graph();
           dt.Columns.RemoveAt(2);      //Reformat datatable (dt) and remove last column before binding to Gridview1

           GridView1.DataSource = dt;
           GridView1.DataBind();
        } else {

    errorMessage.Text = "No data was returned!";
 }

I'm trying to create a Grid View from a stored procedure call, but whenever I try and test the query within web developer it says I did not supply the input parameter even though I am.I've run the stored procedure from a regular ASP page and it works fine when I pass a parameter. I am new to dotNET and visual web developer, anybody else had any luck with this or know what I'm doing wrong? My connection is fine because when I run a query without the parameter it works fine.Here is the code that is generated from web developer 2008 if that helps any...... <asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource1" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:IMS3TestConnectionString %>" ProviderName="<%$ ConnectionStrings:IMS3TestConnectionString.ProviderName %>" SelectCommand="usp_getListColumns" SelectCommandType="StoredProcedure"> <SelectParameters> <asp:querystringparameter DefaultValue="0" Name="FormID" QueryStringField="FormID" Type="Int32" /> </SelectParameters> </asp:SqlDataSource>

Passing Object Variable As Input Parameter To An Execute SQL Task Query

Mar 29, 2007

I've encountered a new problem with an SSIS Pkg where I have a seq. of Execute SQL tasks. My question are:

1) In the First Execute SQL Task, I want to store a single row result of @@identity type into a User Variable User::LoadID of What type. ( I tried using DBNull Type or Object type which works, not with any other type, it but I can't proceed to step 2 )

2) Now I want to use this User::LoadID as input parameter of What type for the next task (I tried using Numeric, Long, DB_Numeric, Decimal, Double none of there work).

Please give me solutions for the above two..

Passing Array From ADO.NET To Strore Procedure `???

Jan 21, 2008

Dear all,

I need to pass an Array of string from .NET in C# to a store procedure. I do not know in advance the size of the array.
When this array is pass to my store procedure, I need to copy the all content of the array into an SQL table.

Based on that I have different question :

1 - is it possible to pass an Array[] as a strore procedure parameter ?
2- If yes what is the syntax to declare an input parameter as an array ?
3- Does the array as parameter is the proper way to pass unknown amount of parameters ?
4 - If not what are the other solution ? I read some stuff on XML document but did not find any real example which explain clearly how it should be done

Thnaks for your help
regards
Serge

Passing An Array Of Strings To A Stored Procedure

Jun 10, 2007

Well, I managed to write a Stored procedure that updates some records in the Northwind Database based on the ProductIDs passed to the SP as a list of strings. This is the Alter version of the SP:USE [Northwind]
GO
/****** Object: StoredProcedure [dbo].[gv_sp_UpdatePOs] Script Date: 06/10/2007 12:07:54 ******/
SET ANSI_NULLS ON
GO
SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON
GO
ALTER PROC [dbo].[gv_sp_UpdatePOs]
(
@IDList varchar(500),
@ReorderLevel int,
@ProductName nvarchar(30)

)
AS
BEGIN
SET NOCOUNT ON
 EXEC('Update dbo.Products
SET ReorderLevel = (' + @ReorderLevel + ') ,ProductName = (''' + @ProductName + ''')
WHERE ProductID IN (' + @IDList + ')')
END
 ----------------------
THis works fine inside Sql Server 2005 Query analyser.
 But when I setup an aspx page with an objectDataSource inside the page attached to an xsd file where the Products table is located. When I try to add new query to the tableadapter inside the Products table and point to the stored procedure in the wizard I get this error: " the wizard detected the following problems when configuring TableAdapter query "Products" Details: Generated SELECT statement. Incorrect suntax near ')'.

Any help would be appreciated
And can someone convert it to support XML instead of list of strings. thanks.

Creating Object Using Array In A Loop

Apr 17, 2008

I would like to populate an array with an object. In other words, I would like for each element in the array to consist of an object that has several elements. Below is some code so you can see what I'm talking about:
Function buildObj()   Dim countLimit As Integer = 5   Dim mArray() As myObject     While reader.Read()          For counter = 0 To countLimit - 1                mArray(counter).objVal1 = reader.GetValue(0)  'Error is here                mArray(counter).objVal2 = reader.GetValue(1)                mArray(counter).objVal3 = reader.GetValue(2)                counter += 1          Next     End While
     Return mArray
End Function
Dim showValArr As Array = buildObj()Response.Write(showValArr(0).objVal1.ToString)
When I build my site, I get the following error:Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
It's pointing to the line that says "Error is here". Any ideas would be very helpful.Thank you!

Passing An Array Into A Stored Procedure And The 'IN' Clause Will Not Do The Trick

Mar 6, 2008

I have a table that looks like this:

RecordId
PictureId
KeywordId

111
212
313
421
522
623
725
817
932
1044
I need to run a query where I pass in an unknown number of KeywordIds that returns the PictureId. The 'IN' clause will not work because if a KeyWordId gets passed into the Stored Procudure the PictureId must have a record with each KeyWordId being passed in. For example, lets say you need to see the result of all PictureIds that have both 1 and 2, the correct result set should only be PictureId 1 and PictureId 2.

Im going crazy trying to find a simple solution for this. Please advise.

hi guys im having some problems with arrays as parameter
what i want to do is pass a array of comma separated values i.e 12,24,36 and use the in(@parameter) but it doesnt work

i've found some solutions, like
ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[GetLawyers] ( @LawyerTypeIDs VARCHAR(100)
AS

DECLARE @SQL VARCHAR(2000)

SET @SQL = 'SELECT * FROM [dbo].[TB_VALOR_BANCOS]
WHERE [PARCELAS] IN (' + @LawyerTypeIDs + ')'
EXECUTE (@SQL)

but in my case doesnt work.

here is a part of my code
SELECT * FROM (
SELECT *, ROW_NUMBER()
OVER (PARTITION BY cod_banco ORDER BY coeficiente asc) AS RecID FROM tb_valor_bancos
where
(1 = CASE WHEN @TABELA IS NULL THEN 1
ELSE CASE WHEN TABELA = @TABELA THEN 1
ELSE 0
END
END
)
AND (1 = CASE WHEN @PARCELAS IS NULL THEN 1
ELSE CASE WHEN PARCELAS in(@PARCELAS) THEN 1
ELSE 0
END
END
)
...

i know there is a way to pass the array into a table but it doesnt work too

Reporting Services :: Multi-value Parameter Not Passing In Subreport Parameter List

Jul 29, 2015

I have two report , first is main report which is matrix and have one parameter User_ids which is multi value selection and my second report is basic chart of user_wise performance.

Now, my main report (matrix ) works fine for Multiple selection of users and i have putted one textbox on main report chart which has action properties set for chart report, when user click on chart button it must goes to chart with user selected in main report. Now , i have used expression for parameter to send it like ..

=join(parameter!user_id!value,",") which pass selected value to chart

And when I am selecting single user it passing that value to chart parameter list but , when it is more than one user it errors with conversion failed when converting the nvarchar value '121,128' to data type int. But my chart also works when passing 121,128 in user parameter in preview of report .

Array As Procedure Parameter

Jun 27, 2006

I have a shift definition table with the columns:

shift_id: shift's id

shift_name: shift's name

shift_number_of_day: shift's "position" on the day

initial_hour: shift's initial hour

final_hour: shift's final hour

The shift definition depends on the company: company A may have 2 shifts, and company B may have 3 shifts, for example.
I need to load a dimension table, dim_time, that should have a row for each hour of each day of a specific year. I would have

alternate_time_key ... shift_name ...
1/1/2006 01:00:00 GraveYard
1/1/2006 02:00:00 GraveYard

and so on, until it reaches the end of the year.

So in my procedure to load the dimension table, I would have something like

IF (@alternateTimeKeyHour >= @paramShift1InitialHour) AND (@alternateTimeKeytHour <= @paramShift1FinalHour)
BEGIN
SET @shiftName = @paramFirstShiftName;
SET @shiftNumberOfDay = 1;
END
ELSE IF (@alternateTimeKeyHour >= @paramShift2InitialHour) AND (@alternateTimeKeyHour <= @paramShift2FinalHour)
BEGIN
SET @shiftName = @paramSecondShiftName;
SET @shiftNumberOfDay = 2;
END
.
.
.

The problem is that I would have a variable number of shifts (variable number of parameters!)...
The only solution I could think was using an array, but as far as I could see it's not possible to pass
an array as a parameter to a procedure. Is this right? Is there a better solution to do this? Can anyone help me please???

Thank you!

Here's my code: URL....The parameter of the report I'm trying to open is @SONum.I'm guessing my error is involved in the formatting of how the value of the parameter is being passed. I've also seen examples where the report server and report values were parameterized, but I don't know where to define

Parameters!ServerAddress.Value anywhere.Do I need to have something set up a certain way within the report I'm opening? Here's the report Parameter settings on the report I'm trying to open.

Can I Add Integer Array To SQLCommand As Parameter?

Jun 3, 2008

I'm trying to build an SQL string that should look like this when executed:
UPDATE [Table] SET Active = 'False' WHERE ID IN (3, 4, 5, 6, 7, etc.)
I'm using the convention (in code behind):SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand("UPDATE [Table] SET Active = 'False' WHERE ID IN (@TheIDs)", connection);cmd.Parameters.Add("TheIDs", SqlDbType.Text).Value = theIDsAsAnArrayList;
But logically enough I cannot insert them as a text string as they have to be integers seperated by commas.
Question: How can I convert an Array of integers into ... well, a string without the quotes, if you know what I mean?
As it cannot end up like this: UPDATE [Table] SET Active = 'False' WHERE ID IN ("3, 4, 5, 6, 7, etc.")
Note the quotes around the integers.
Any hints on doing this with security in mind are welcome. I know I can concatenate the whole lot as strings, but this is unsecure, so I'm not going for that approach.

Passing ANY Value To The &<InsertParameters&> Section Of A SQLDataSource

Ok-I'm new at this, but just found out that to get data off a form and insert into SQL I can scrape it off the form and insert it in the <insertParameter> section by using  <asp:ControlParameter Name="text2" Type="String" ControlID="TextBox2" PropertyName="Text">  (Thanks CSharpSean) Now I ALSO need to set the user name in the same insert statement. I put in a UserName control that is populated when a signed in user shows up on the page. But in my code I've tried:                             <asp:ControlParameter Name="UserName" Type="String" ControlID="LoginName1"  DefaultValue="Daniel" PropertyName="Text"/> and I get teh errorDataBinding: 'System.Web.UI.WebControls.LoginName' does not contain a
property with the name 'Text'. So I take PropertyName="Text" out, and get the error:PropertyName must be set to a valid property name of the control named
'LoginName1' in ControlParameter 'UserName'. what is the proper property value?  SO.....BIG question...Is there a clean way to pass UserName to the insert parameters? Or ANY value for that matter? Id like to know how to write somehting likeString s_test = "test string";then in the updateparameter part of the sqldatasource pass  SOMEHITNG like (in bold)     <asp:Parameter Name="UserName" Type="String" Value=s_test /> Thanks in advance...again! Dan

SQLDataSource Parameters Passing Null

My stored procedures are tested and verified and the parameter names are the same as the source columns. Hi,I have a UserControl called DataPage with the following public property:private SqlDataSource sqlDataSource;public SqlDataSource SqlDataSource{   get { return this.sqlDataSource; }   set { this.sqlDataSource = value; }}In a web form i create an instance of the DataPage UserControl and assign the SqlDataSource properties:<%@ Page MasterPageFile="~/MasterPages/Page.master" Inherits="IMS.Pages.ModelType" Title="Model Types" %><asp:Content ID="Content" ContentPlaceHolderID="ContentPlaceHolder" runat="Server">   <ims:DataPage ID="DataPage" runat="server">      <SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource" runat="server"         ConnectionString="IMSConnectionString"          DeleteCommand="DeleteModelType" DeleteCommandType="StoredProcedure"         InsertCommand="InsertModelType" InsertCommandType="StoredProcedure"         SelectCommand="SelectModelType" SelectCommandType="StoredProcedure"         UpdateCommand="UpdateModelType" UpdateCommandType="StoredProcedure">         <DeleteParameters>            <asp:Parameter Name="ModelTypeID" Type="Int32" />         </DeleteParameters>         <UpdateParameters>            <asp:Parameter Name="ModelTypeID" Type="Int32" />            <asp:ControlParameter ControlID="UpdateModelTypeTextBox" Name="ModelType" PropertyName="Text" Type="String" />         </UpdateParameters>         <SelectParameters>            <asp:Parameter Name="ModelTypeID" Type="Int32" />         </SelectParameters>         <InsertParameters>            <asp:ControlParameter ControlID="InsertModelTypeTextBox" Name="ModelType" PropertyName="Text" Type="String" />         </InsertParameters>      </SqlDataSource>   </ims:DataPage></asp:Content> Then in the UserControl I try to call the SqlDataSource.Insert() method, and I get the following error:"The SqlDataSource control 'SqlDataSource' does not have a naming container.  Ensure that the control is added to the page before calling DataBind."Now, based on the error message it sounds like that SqlDataSource is not contained in either the web form or the usercontrol. Any ideas, thanks very much for any help people.Grant

Passing Object Properties To Variables

Sep 14, 2006

Hi.

I was wondering if it's possible to pass object properties to variables? For example, if I have a ConnectionString property for a SQL Server connection, would it be possible to pass this value to a User-scoped variable?

Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!

SqlDataSource Object Question

Apr 7, 2007

Hello, thanks for reading my post!

 Ok, so I connected to my database. I can insert data and all that good stuff, but when it comes time to make the login page for a project I am working on, sadly I cant figure out how to read data from my datasource object O_O.
 So I have an SqlDataSource object, its bound to my sql database ( successfully ), I can even set it to return the results I want, my question though is how do I access the results it returns so I can compair it with code?
 Hope I'm making sense! Any help is *greatly* appreciated!
 Thanks!,
 -Bob
