Passing A Field In A Link?

Sep 28, 2007

Hey again,

So I have a report that I'm trying to link to a website. I want to be able to click on an id number in a table that comes from a query and link it to a site that has more information about that person. So when I click on 123456 I need to link to a site with the URL www.moreinfo.com/ID=123456 however when I try it it passes www.moreinfo.com/ID=Fields!Stuff.id. How do I make it pass the value of that field not the string? Thank you!

Passing Multivalue Parameters Through A Report Link

Jun 16, 2006

I've created a line chart in my report which lists number of transactions by month. I've also created a report to list transactions by day. My goal is for the user to select a month and link the report to the graph with the selected month divided up into days (in other words, the user wants to see the number of transactions for each day in the selected month).

Anyway, everything is working perfectly except for one thing. In the list of parameters that I am passing to the report for each day, I want to pass a multivalue parameter which contains all the transaction IDs the user selected in creating the report (these are supplied by a multivalue parameter). However, in the parameter dialog box where it asks for a value to send to the awaiting parameter, I do not know how to supply more than one value. If I need to pass one value, it will work fine. However, I would like to do something like:

JOIN(Parameters!TransactionID.value, ",")

for the value of TransactionID, but when I generate the report it is not accepting the values. I'm pretty sure its just a format issue, and I just need to know how exactly I should pass these values.

I already understand that when passing multivalue parameters in a URL you need something like:

TransactionID=1&TransactionID=2

...in order to select multiple values. However, this is a slightly different situation. I'm really running out of ideas, so any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you guys so much

Nullable Field As Fact-dim Link Causes Errors

Feb 26, 2008

I have a dimension with a date field (int key value actually) that is generally null that I'm using to link to a time dimension. Everything works great when I set Null Processing to UnknownMember in the Measure Group Bindings, but if I try to set it to Preserve or anything else, I get processing errors because it can't match the null attribute key to the time dimension. I think I understand this, but I'm concerned that I'm not doing it the best way. Also, why does this page say "UnknownMember causes a data integrity error at processing time" when that's the only setting that does not give me errors?

Passing A Column/field Name As A Variable?

Aug 24, 2005

Is it possible to use a table's fieldname as an SQL variable?

i.e. can the below be made to somehow work:

Code:

SELECT Firstname, Surname, myVariable
FROM ContactDetails
WHERE myVariable = [user input];

- or simply -

Code:

SELECT Firstname, Surname, [user input]
FROM ContactDetails;

---
The "user input" being any other chosen column/fieldname from the ContactDetails table (e.g. Street, City, Postcode, etc.).

i'm using Access and ASP - in case that makes a difference.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have two reports 'Product Details' and 'Sales by Product'

When i click on 'Product ID' field in 'Product Details' report, It has to drill through to 'Sales by Product' which has a parameter 'Product ID' in it.

Access2003 Cannot Link (but Excel2003 Can Link) To Tables In Access97 Database

Feb 20, 2008

I have created an Access2003 project (existing data) that links to external data. First I connected to a SQL Server 2000 database. Success. Then I tried to set up a Transact SQL data connection to a legacy MDW-secured Access97 database. (A third-party VB6 application goes against it, and we don't have the source code, so we cannot upgrade it.)

The Transact SQL link tests OK but I cannot select any of the tables or queries from the list presented. However, with the same credentials, I can use these same objects in Excel 2003.

When setting up the link in Access2003, I specify JET 4.0 OLE DB Provider, I enter the MDW file on the All tab, a username and a password on the Connection tab where I browse to the MDB file, and specify Shared Deny None on the Advanced tab. When I test the connection, it tests OK ("Test connection succeeded"). Yet on the "Select the Database and Table/Cube which contains the data you want" dialog, "(Default)" appears in the grayed-out dropdown. Then, beneath that dropdown, there is a grid with Name and Description columns. The grid contains query names but the grid is not enabled. The list of queries is this table is grayed out. Neither of the scrollbars works.

BUT... if I use the SAME username and password in Excel2003, and specify the same MDW, there is no problem working with these same database objects in the legacy Access97 database. WHAT IS DIFFERENT ABOUT THE WIZARD IN EXCEL THAT ALLOWS IT TO SUCCEED AND THE WIZARD IN ACCESS THAT CAUSES IT TO FAIL HERE? In Excel, the list of available providers says Microsoft Access Driver, not JET 4.0 OLE DB Provider.

Thanks
TR

Cannot Link To SQL Tables Using ODBC Link Table In Access 2003

Feb 3, 2006

When trying to link to an SQL table in Access 2003, the software appears to be malfunctioning.

The sequence of events is File - Get External Data - Link Tables - Files of Type: ODBC Databases().

The Problem: On two of my computers, the select data source window does not pop up, preventing me from linking to any ODBC data source.

Observations:  This function has worked normally in the recent past and works on other computers running Access 2003.  One difference between the computers working and non-working computers is Norton Antivirus 2006 (recent upgrade).

Has anyone experienced anything like this?  What's going on?

Pass In Null/blank Value In The Date Field Or Declare The Field As String And Convert

Dec 30, 2003

I need to pass in null/blank value in the date field or declare the field as string and convert date back to string.

I tried the 2nd option but I am having trouble converting the two digits of the recordset (rs_get_msp_info(2), 1, 2))) into a four digit yr. But it will only the yr in two digits.
The mfg_start_date is delcared as a string variable

mfg_start_date = CStr(CDate(Mid(rs_get_msp_info(2), 3, 2) & "/" & Mid(rs_get_msp_info(2), 5, 2) & "/" & Mid(rs_get_msp_info(2), 1, 2)))

option 1
I will have to declare the mfg_start_date as date but I need to send in a blank value for this variable in the stored procedure. It won't accept a null or blank value.

With refresh_shipping_sched
.ActiveConnection = CurrentProject.Connection
.CommandText = "spRefresh_shipping_sched"
.CommandType = adCmdStoredProc
.Parameters.Append .CreateParameter("ret_val", adInteger, adParamReturnValue)
.Parameters.Append .CreateParameter("@option", adInteger, adParamInput, 4, update_option)
.Parameters.Append .CreateParameter("@mfg_ord_num", adChar, adParamInput, mfg_ord_num_length, "")
.Parameters.Append .CreateParameter("@mfg_start_date", adChar, adParamInput, 10, "")
Set rs_refresh_shipping_sched = .Execute
End

Informix Date Type Field To SQL Server Datetime Field Error

Oct 17, 2007

I am trying to drag data from Informix to Sql Server. When I kick off the package
using an OLE DB Source and a SQL Server Destination, I get DT_DBDATE to DT_DBTIMESTAMP
errors on two fields from Informix which are date data ....no timestamp part

I tried a couple of things:

Created a view of the Informix table where I cast the date fields as datetime year to fraction(5), which failed.

Altered the view to convert the date fields to char(10) with the hopes that SQL Server would implicitly cast them
as datetime but it failed.

What options do I have that will work?

Link To DB2

Jan 21, 2006

Hi all,I'd like to know what the best means available is to enable distributedqueries from a SQL Server 2000, on tables in BOTH SQL Server 2000 and aremote DB2 server (the latter is not yet available for testing).So, I would be wanting to write queries or SP's like:select t1.field1, t1.field5, t1.field6, t2.field55, t2.field22from MySQLServer.mydb.dbowner.tableXXX as t1inner join ThatDB2Server.thatdb.thatowner.tableYYY as t2 on t2.field11= t1.field99where t1.field44 = @foobarI'm aware of at least two ways to go here:1) in SQL Server 2000, create a linked server to the remote DB2server, either using the wizard or sp_addlinkedserver, and using eitheran OLEDB or ODBC connection;2) using MS Host Integration Server (HIS).Since I've only just today learnt about HIS, I don't know very muchabout it.Questions:(a) are options (1) and (2) mutually exclusive, or does one depend onthe other?(b) can I do (1) without having to bother with (2)? If this, wherewould I get hold of the required OLEDB/ODBC Provider?(c) Is there another way(s) to go about this task?HYCH,Rob

Transact SQL :: NVARCHAR Field Getting Truncated After Increasing Field Length?

Aug 28, 2015

I have a very strange situation. I've increased the size of an NVARCHAR field from 8 to 9 in a database table. The format of the data that I enter will either be an 8 character field (123456-8) or a 9 character field (1234567-9). The '-' is critical.

It used to only accept the 8 character version, but after increasing the field size, if I try to insert the 9 character field version, it gets truncated after the '-', as though it's still only allowing 8 characters. But that only occurs when I include the '-' or other such characters like '#'. If I try to insert 1234567a9, it works. The following explains the outcomes:

Inserted Value -> Result in table

123456-8 -> 123456-8      *Correct
1234567-9 -> 1234567-     *Wrong
123456789 -> 123456789    *Correct
1234567#9 -> 1234567#     *Wrong
1234567a9 -> 1234567a9    *Correct

Why is it that characters such as '-' and '#' are truncating the value, but only if the string is 9 chars long?

I'm currently using a direct t-sql insert statement in SQLExpress. The field is a simple NVARCHAR(9) field.
