Passing Data From Db To Ssis Variable
Jul 11, 2007
Is there anyway to pass data from a sql database to a variable in a ssis package. I'm trying to get a few fields from a sql database into some variables in my package and send an email using these variables with the send mail task?
Thanks,

I have a SQL Task that updates running totals on a record inserted using a Data Flow Task. The package runs without error, but the actual row does not calculate the running totals. I suspect that the inserted record is not committed until the package completes and the SQL Task is seeing the previous record as the current. Here is the code in the SQL Task:
DECLARE @DV INT;
SET @DV = (SELECT MAX(DateValue) FROM tblTG);
DECLARE @PV INT;
SET @PV = @DV - 1;
I've not been successful in passing a SSIS global variable to a declared parameter, but is it possible to do this:
DECLARE @DV INT;
SET @DV = ?;
DECLARE @PV INT;
SET @PV = @DV - 1;
I have almost 50 references to these parameters in the query so a substitution would be helpful.

Hi,
I am creating SSIS package which using Execute SQL Task to which I am supplying one .sql file code is
delete from Test where ID = @ID
I defined @ID variable to SSIS and also path where .sql file placed but i am not able to execute this package i am getting error like can not find C:@Path file......
As i got information that passing such variable to .sql you need ADO.net connection so I changed SQLSERVER Database connection string to ADO.net .... after that when i set hard core value for these variable i.e for @ID and @Path then it runs sccessfully but by setting parameter i am getting above error
Any suggestion that will be gr8 help for me

Hi
I have having trouble getting my hands around how to retrieve variables from a parent package. I read about the Environment variables and Configuration File at the parent package level and the Parent Package variable at the child level.
Here are my questions:
1. Can you only store/retrieve 1 variable in a config file at a time?
2. Does the child package have to define the variables and if so, do they have to be the same names as the parent package?
This seems so more more complex then the DTS2000 way of passing variables to and from packages.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Gordon Radley

I am building a generic SSIS where it takes a text source file and converts to a destination source file . However in the process I want to set the row delimiter and the column delimiter dynamically through the package variable. So that I can use it for any file transfer.
I saw the option for row delimiter in the file connection string property but did not see any column delimiter option.

How to pass more than one variable values in ssis as parameter values to ssrs. With the above code its showing as empty.If i am taking single variable i am able to render the data into excel sheet.

I've created a varible timeStamp that I want to feed into a stored procedure but I'm not having any luck. I'm sure its a simple SSIS 101 problem that I can't see or I may be using the wrong syntax
in Execute SQL Task Editor I have
conn type -- ole db
connection -- some server
sql source type -- direct input
sql statement -- exec testStoredProc @timeStamp = ?
if I put a value direclty into the statement it works just fine: exec testStoredProc '02-25-2008'
This is the syntax I found to execute the procedure, I don't udnerstand few things about it.
1. why when I try to run it it changes it to exec testStoredProc @timeStamp = ? with error: EXEC construct or statement is not supported , followed by erro: no value given for one or more requreid parameters.
2. I tired using SQL commands exec testStoredProc @timeStamp and exec testStoredProc timeStamp but nothing happens. Just an error saying unable to convert varchar to datetime
3. Also from SRS I usually have to point the timeStamp to @timeStamp and I dont know how to do that here I thought it was part of the parameter mapping but I can't figure out what the parameter name and parameter size should be; size defaults to -1.
Thank you, please help.

Using the following:
SQL Server: SQL Server 2012
Visual Studio 2012
I have created an SSIS package where I have added an Execute SQL Task to run an existing stored procedure in my SQL database.
General Tab:
Result Set: None
Connection Type: OLE DB
SourceType: Direct Input
IsQueryStoredProcedure: False (this is greyed out and cannot be changed)
Bypass Prepare: True
SQL Statement: EXEC FL_CUSTOM_sp_ml_location_load ?, ?;
Parameter Mapping:
Variable Name Direction Data Type Prmtr Name Prmtr Size
User: system_cd Input NVARCHAR 0 10
User: location_type_cd Input NVARCHAR 1 10
Variables:
location_type_cd - Data type - string; Value - Store (this is static)
system_cd - Data type - string - ??????
The system code changes based on the system field for each record in the load table
Sample Data:
SysStr # Str_Nm
3 7421Store1
3 7454Store2
1815061Store3
1815063Store4
1615064Store5
1615065Store6
1615066Store7
7725155Store8
STORED PROCEDURE: The stored procedure takes data from a load table and inserts it into another table:
Stored procedure variables:
ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[sp_ml_location_load]
(@system_cd nvarchar(10), @location_type_cd nvarchar(10))
AS
BEGIN .....................
This is an example of what I want to accomplish: I need to be able to group all system 3 records, then pass 3 as the parameter for system_cd, run the stored procedure for those records, then group all system 18 records, then pass 18 as the parameter for system_cd, run the stored procedure for those records and keep doing this for each different system in the table until all records are processed.
I am not sure how or if it can be done to pass the system parameter to the stored procedure based on the system # in the sys field of the data.

Hi All!
I have a parent package that contains two children... The second child depends on the succes of the first child.
THe first child generates a variable value and stores it in an Environment variable ( Visibility - All ) ...After the first succeeds, the second will start executing and will pick up the variable value from environment variable( through package configuration setting )...
Unfortunately, this doesn't work...As the second child picks the stale value of the environment variables...Essentially it assigns variable value not after the first child is finished, but right at the beginning of parent execution...
I tried to execute coth children as Out Of Proc as well as In Proc...The same
Would anybody have an idea how to resolve this problem?
Thanks in advance for any help!

Greetings,
I have written a SSIS package which does the following:
- An 'Execute SQL Task' uses an OLEDB connection to execute a Stored Procedure in SQL Server 2005
A SSIS user defined variable named @SourceSQLStatement is passed to the Stored procedure as an OUTPUT
This variable is a string Data Type
- The Stored Procedure generates an SQL command and saves it in the variable
This variable is defined as @SourceSQLStatement nvarchar(4000) OUTPUT
The varible is then returned to the SSIS package
When the package is executed the variable does not contain the entire SQL command.
When I check in the Locals window during Debug, the contents seem to have been truncated:
+ User::SourceSQLstatement {SELECT a.FailureID, a.ExceptionHandlerID, a.FailureTypeCd, a.AccountNbr, a.AccountNm, a.CaseNbr, a.CustNm, a.AssociateNm, a.TargetSysNm, a.FailureDt, a.FailurePointTxt, a.SubmittedByNm, a.ErrorMsgTxt, a.CreateId, a.CreateDt, a.UpdateId, a.UpdateDt FROM GSPIntegrationException a WHERE a.CreateDt >= (select max(ETLC.RunDt) from X141572_ETLSTAGING.dbo.ETL ETL inner join X141572_ETLSTAGING.dbo.ETLControl ETLC on ETL.ETLID = ETLC.ETLID inner join X141572_ETLSTAGING.dbo.ETLRun ETLR on ETLC.ETLID = ETLR.ETLID an} String
The fully generated SQL command does not exceed the 4000 character length provided in the stored procedure.
Has anyone encountered this issue before?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thank You

I cannot find the data type for parameter mapping from Execute SQL Task Editor to make this works.
1. Execute SQL Task 1 - select max(columnA) from tableA. ColumnA is varbinary(8); set result to variable which data type is Object.
2. Execute SQL Task 2 - update tableB set columnB = ?
What data type should I use to map the parameter? I tried different data types, none working except GUI but it returned wrong result.
Does SSIS variable support varbinary data type? I know there's a bug issue with bigint data type and there's a work-around. Is it same situation with varbinary?
Thanks,

Hi all,
I am creating a customer data flow component for SSIS for use in a package. I've got some custom properties that I am exposing using the supplied advanced editor (no custom property editor here).
Some of my properties are enumerated types, and I have deciphered how to get those properties to show as dropdown lists of their respective enumerations. (For those of you who may be looking as hard as I did as to how to accomplish this, see the end of this post.)
I also have a few properties which request SSIS package variable names - such as an file name variable. However, I can't figure out how to tell the advanced editor that the property is looking for an SSIS variable, so that it can show a dropdown list of package variables, much like virtually any other Microsoft supplied Data Flow component can.
Is there a Type Converter I could specify for those custom properties? Is there another way to instruct SSIS that my custom property is expecting a variable? Or do I need to code a custom UI for editing my Data Flow Task?
To create a dropdown list of values for a custom property that represents an enum, do the following:
1. Create your enum definition, such as "public enum ThisIsMyEnum { one, two }"
2. Create a new class that inherits from TypeConverter, such as "public class MyEnumConverter : TypeConverter"
3. Override "CanConvertFrom", and return true if "sourceType == typeof(string)"
4. Override "CanConvertTo", and return true if "destinationType == typeof(string)"
5. Override "ConvertFrom", and return the enum value (such as "one" or "two" in my example) that corresponds to the string passed in the parameter "value"
6. Override "ConvertTo", and return a string that corresponds to the enum value passed in the parameter "value"
7. Override "GetStandardValuesSupported" and return true
8. Override "GetStandarValuesExclusive" and return true to indicate that ONLY the enum values should be accepted
9. Override "GetStandardValues", and return a new StandardValuesCollection constructed with Enum.GetValues() of your enum, such as "return new StandardValuesCollection(Enum.GetValues(typeof(ThisIsMyEnum)));"
10. Just above your "public enum" declaration, add a "TypeConverter" attribute to link your type converter to your enum, such as "[TypeConverter(typeof(MyEnumConverter))]"
11. In "ProvideComponentProperties", after you've created your custom property like this: "IDTSCustomProperty90 propEnum = ComponentMetaData.CustomPropertyCollection.New()", add another line to specify the TypeConverter property of the property to the full assembly name of your type converter, like so: "propEnum.TypeConverter = typeof(MyEnumConverter).AssemblyQualifiedName;"

I have a SSIS package that opens an xml file, puts the contents into a string, then runs a stored procedure that dumps it into an xml column in a table. One of the xml files is huge. Putting the data into a ssis string causes an error. The length of the string variable is 58,231,886. The file will only get bigger.
How else can I get this data into a SQL Server XML field.

Hi,
This is pretty simple but I am doing somethin really stupid somewhere, I am trying to pass a value to a variable declared in a package using some SQL code, I declared a variable "var1" and assigned the scope to the package , then I dropped a execute SQL task within the package and wrote a simple sql code that would get the maximum id from a table, "select max(id) from table" , now I want to assign the variable this max value.so in the parameter mapping tab I select the variable give it a parameter name of 0 and size of -1 along with direction of "output". everythin looks simple but when I try to use this variable value in my next execute sql task it behaves weirdly, I am trying to update anothet table using this variable value, so I add another task and put this code in there " update table2 set id = ? " , and on the parameter mapping tab I set the direction as input, however when I look at the column it updated th column with a weird number , xomethin like "230072408" which doesnt mean anything. I know that tha max value of ID is 10.
Please help.
Thanks

i need to pass a variable to retrieve data based on user requirements.
i tried this way,

t.execute(SELECT * tbl1 where nmonth >= datepart(mm,DATEADD(month, -'"+mno+"', getdate())) or nmonth <=datepart(mm,getdate()) and empno='"+emppip+"'")
its not working.
can i achieve this using stored procedure? or can i directly pass a variable to sql synatax?

in particular the Temp_Usage_@periodseq line of code, how do i "add" the periodseq (which is a number) to the end of the name of Temp_Usage, i.e: Temp_Usage_112

I've been coding a few years and SSIS makes me feel more stupid than any program I've ever used.
I've read BOL and bought a book. Can't say either one has really helped.
I'm still a complete idiot after one week of working with it. I apologize for asking so many stupid questions.
What I'm trying to do now is parameterize a SQL statement.
I have a variable that's a string. I have a DataFlowComponent as a data source. I find references all over the Internet and this forum to something called an "ExecuteSQLTask" but I sure can't figure out what that is. In my toolbox I have data flow sources for DataReader, Excel, Flat Files, Old DB, Raw file, and XML but no Execute Sql Task.
Anyway SELECT * FROM TABLE WHERE COLUMN='Value' in the SQL Command property is simple enough. Now I want 'Value' to be a variable. You know, like in T/SQL DECLARE @Foo VarChar(25). Creating the variable is easy as pie.
I have found at least 10 different examples of specifying variables on the web, all of which claim to be SSIS examples, Is it User::Variable? @[User::Variable]? @Variable?
I want to read rows from a table, with a a variable value in the WHERE clause, and pass them to the fuzzy lookup task.
Is my approach fundamentally flawed in some way?

Can somebody please guide me how to do this. There are multiple references of this table is SSIS package.

Hello,
I can't figure out how to pass values from report parameters to a variable in custom code.
I have a Report Parameter called Parm1 of type string. It contains the following:
Label: Value:
Labell1 Value1
Label2 Value2
In custom code I have declared a variable thus:
Public Dim ParmValue As string = Parameters!Parm1.Value
What I want is this: When a user select a report, they will have to choose a parameter from a dropdown-list (created automatically when creating a paramete). The chosen parameter will be passed to the variable ParmValue which I use as one of the parametes in a text-box like this:
=code.InstanceName.MethodName(ParmValue)
InstanceName is the instance of a class from a dll I reference.
It works fine if I hard-code the paramter like this:
Public Dim ParmValue As string = "SomeString" instead of:
Public Dim ParmValue As string = Parameters!Parm1.Value
The error I get is this:
[rsCompilerErrorInCode] There is an error on line 0 of custom code: [BC30469] Reference to a non-shared member requires an object reference.
I don't know if I'm at all on the right track here.
Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks
/Peter

Hi:
I'm not an expert with using batch files, or using them with SSIS, but I am trying to use two batch files in my SSIS package. I want the first one to map the first available drive on the server and pass that drive letter as an output variable to the package, and then to pass this variable to the last batch file and unmap.
I already have execute program tasks set up with a hardcoded drive letter, but that is not going to work as I don't know what drive letters will be mapped on this machine.
I did find sample code for using variables in a batch file that maps drives:
Code Snippet
@ECHO OFF
rem Map \serverfolder to the next available drive letter and save
the driveletter as DRIVELETTER
FOR /F "tokens=2" %%A IN ('net use * \serverfolder) DO IF NOT %
%A.==command. SET DRIVELETTER=%%A
rem Unmap DRIVELETTER
net use %DRIVELETTER% /del
rem Clear your env variables
set DRIVELETTER=
Questions:
1. Is this the type of code I want to use with the SSIS package?
2. How do I use the batch file with SSIS? I see the Execute Process Tasks has a "StandardInputVariable" and "StandardOutputVariable". Will these work?
Thanks,
Kayda
