Passing Datetime Variable To Stored Proc As Parameter
Jun 12, 2006
Hello,
I'm attempting to pass a datetime variable to a stored proc (called via sql task). The variables are set in a previous task where they act as OUTPUT paramters from a stored proc. The variables are set correctly after that task executes. The data type for those parameters is set to DBTIMESTAMP.
When I try to exectue a similar task passing those variables as parameters, I get an error:
Error: 0xC002F210 at ax_settle, Execute SQL Task: Executing the query "exec ? = dbo.ax_settle_2 ?, ?,?,3,1" failed with the following error: "Invalid character value for cast specification". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.
If I replace the 2nd and 3rd parameters with quoted strings, it is successful:
exec ?= dbo.ax_settle ?, '3/29/06', '4/30/06',3,1
two variables declared in my proc:@DATE_RANGE_START as datetime,@DATE_RANGE_END as datetime,When I execute my SP it takes 34 seconds.When I change the variables to:@DATE_RANGE_START1 as datetime,@DATE_RANGE_END1 as datetime,and add this to my sp:declare @DATE_RANGE_START datetimedeclare @DATE_RANGE_END datetimeset @DATE_RANGE_START = @DATE_RANGE_START1set @DATE_RANGE_END = @DATE_RANGE_END1the SP runs in 9 seconds (which is expected)Passing in '1/1/01' and '1/1/07' respectivly.Everything else is equal and non-important to this problem.Why does it take 34 seconds when I use the variables from the inputparameters?Interesting isn't it.Jeff
What happened to being able to pass GETDATE() to a stored procedure? I can swear I've done this in the past, but now I get syntax errors in SQL2005. Is there still a way to call a stored proc passing the current datetime stamp? If so, how? This code: EXEC sp_StoredProc 'parm1', 'parm2', getdate() Gives Error: Incorrect Suntax near ')' I tried using getdate(), now(), and CURRENT_TIMESTAMP with the same result I know I can use code below but why all the extra code? And, what if I want to pass as a SQL command [strSQL = "EXEC sp_StoredProc 'parm1', 'par2', getdate()" -- SqlCommand(strSQL, CN)]? DECLARE @currDate DATETIME SET @currDate = GETDATE() EXEC sp_StoredProc 'parm1', 'parm2', @currDate Thanks!
I am currently in the process of building a stored procedure that needs the ability to be passed one, multiple or all fields selected from a list box to each of the parameters of the stored procedure. I am currently using code similar to this below to accomplish this for each parameter:
CREATE FUNCTION dbo.SplitOrderIDs ( @OrderList varchar(500) ) RETURNS @ParsedList table ( OrderID int ) AS BEGIN DECLARE @OrderID varchar(10), @Pos int
SET @OrderList = LTRIM(RTRIM(@OrderList))+ ',' SET @Pos = CHARINDEX(',', @OrderList, 1)
IF REPLACE(@OrderList, ',', '') <> '' BEGIN WHILE @Pos > 0 BEGIN SET @OrderID = LTRIM(RTRIM(LEFT(@OrderList, @Pos - 1))) IF @OrderID <> '' BEGIN INSERT INTO @ParsedList (OrderID) VALUES (CAST(@OrderID AS int)) --Use Appropriate conversion END SET @OrderList = RIGHT(@OrderList, LEN(@OrderList) - @Pos) SET @Pos = CHARINDEX(',', @OrderList, 1)
END END RETURN END GO
I have it working fine for the single or multiple selection, the trouble is that an 'All' selection needs to be in the list box as well, but I can't seem to get it working for this.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
My plan is to have the same ability as under the 'Optional' section of this page:
I'm trying to call a stored procedure in an Execute SQL task which has several parameters. Four of the parameters are input from package variables. A fifth parameter is an output parameter and its result needs to be saved to a package variable.
Here is the entirety of the SQL in the SQLStatement property: EXEC log_ItemAdd @Destination = 'isMedicalClaim', @ImportJobId = ?, @Started = NULL, @Status = 1, @FileType = ?, @FileName = ?, @FilePath = ?, @Description = NULL, @ItemId = ? OUTPUT; I have also tried it like this: EXEC log_ItemAdd 'isMedicalClaim', ?, NULL, 1, ?, ?, ?, NULL, ? OUTPUT;
Here are my Parameter Mappings: Variable Name Direction Data Type Parameter Name User::ImportJobId Input LONG 0 User::FileType Input LONG 1 User::FileName Input LONG 2 User::FilePath Input LONG 3 User::ImportId Output LONG 4
When this task is run, I get the following error:
0xC002F210 at [Task Name], Execute SQL Task: Executing the query "EXEC log_ItemAdd @Destination = 'isMedicalClaim', @ImportJobId = ?, @Started = NULL, @Status = 1, @FileType = ?, @FileName = ?, @FilePath = ?, @Description = NULL, @ItemId = ? OUTPUT" failed with the following error: "An error occurred while extracting the result into a variable of type (DBTYPE_I4)". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly. The User::ImportId package variable is scoped to the package and I've given it data types from Byte through Int64. It always fails with the same error. I've also tried adjusting the Data Type on the Parameter Mapping, but nothing seems to work. Any thoughts on what I might be doing wrong? Thanks.
I've created a varible timeStamp that I want to feed into a stored procedure but I'm not having any luck. I'm sure its a simple SSIS 101 problem that I can't see or I may be using the wrong syntax
in Execute SQL Task Editor I have conn type -- ole db connection -- some server sql source type -- direct input sql statement -- exec testStoredProc @timeStamp = ?
if I put a value direclty into the statement it works just fine: exec testStoredProc '02-25-2008'
This is the syntax I found to execute the procedure, I don't udnerstand few things about it.
1. why when I try to run it it changes it to exec testStoredProc @timeStamp = ? with error: EXEC construct or statement is not supported , followed by erro: no value given for one or more requreid parameters.
2. I tired using SQL commands exec testStoredProc @timeStamp and exec testStoredProc timeStamp but nothing happens. Just an error saying unable to convert varchar to datetime
3. Also from SRS I usually have to point the timeStamp to @timeStamp and I dont know how to do that here I thought it was part of the parameter mapping but I can't figure out what the parameter name and parameter size should be; size defaults to -1.
possible to pass in a query as a parameter to a stored proc?
Number of constraints right now would make it a lot easier if I could pass in a query that selects all the ID's, tried but couldn't come up w/anything, just have a simple proc that does the deletes on 1 ID @ a time...since there are up to 100 that will need to be deleted, the qry as a param would be much more convenient. below is the proc...Thx for any help.
Code:
CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[s_DeletePeople]
@PeopleID int /* single id to be deleted, tried just passing * in a query that resembled a string and using it * but it didn't work either. */
AS
Deletefrom tProjectManager whereManager_ID in (@PeopleID)
Deletefrom tMerchandiser whereID in (@PeopleID)
Deletefrom tProjectCall wheremerchandiser_id in (@PeopleID)
Delete from tManager whereID in (@PeopleID)
Deletefrom tDistrictManager whereID in (@PeopleID)
Hello, I have a SP that recevies a date value for a users date of birth called "dob". However when passing it into the class which contains the Stored procedure it gives an error. Below is my code please advice Thanks Ehi
HERE IS THE ERROR MESSAGE Compiler Error Message: CS0103: The name 'dob' does not exist in the current context
Source Error:
Line 40: command.Parameters[2].Value = "First_Name"; Line 41: command.Parameters[3].Value = "Last_Name"; Line 42: command.Parameters[4].Value = DateTime.Parse(dob.Text); Line 43: Line 44: int i = command.ExecuteNonQuery();
I'm developig an ASP.NET application and I'm trying to pass a datetime parameter into my stored procedure. The procedure is very simple "SET @sqlMessage = @parameterPassed" I have the @sqlMessage setup as out OUTPUT parameter and I'm trying to see what I get. So far no go. The datetime value is of type string, and it was retrived from a datetime column in an SQL database. Any ideas. Thanks.
I have managed to pass a string parameter form the main report to the subreport with no problems, but when i try and use the same method to pass a datetime type, i am issued with the following error messase:
"[rsErrorExecutingSubreport] An error occurred while executing the subreport €˜SubReportName€™: The value provided for the report parameter 'MasterDate' is not valid for its type."
I cant see why it work for strings, but not for datetime. Any suggestions will be very much appreciated
I can't figure out how to pass values from report parameters to a variable in custom code. I have a Report Parameter called Parm1 of type string. It contains the following:
Label: Value: Labell1 Value1 Label2 Value2
In custom code I have declared a variable thus: Public Dim ParmValue As string = Parameters!Parm1.Value
What I want is this: When a user select a report, they will have to choose a parameter from a dropdown-list (created automatically when creating a paramete). The chosen parameter will be passed to the variable ParmValue which I use as one of the parametes in a text-box like this: =code.InstanceName.MethodName(ParmValue)
InstanceName is the instance of a class from a dll I reference. It works fine if I hard-code the paramter like this: Public Dim ParmValue As string = "SomeString" instead of: Public Dim ParmValue As string = Parameters!Parm1.Value
The error I get is this: [rsCompilerErrorInCode] There is an error on line 0 of custom code: [BC30469] Reference to a non-shared member requires an object reference.
I don't know if I'm at all on the right track here. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
I have two reports in my project. One is summary and the other is drill through. In Summary report I have StartDate and EndDate Parameters which are DateTime type. Language settings on my workstation are set to Canadian English, and so are in the IE. When I deploy the reports to the Sharepoint WebParts based reporting portal, the reports run fine individually. However, when I try to drill through from summary report to the detail report, the following error is displayed, where the StartDate is 13/07/2007 (Canadian format dd/MM/yyyy):
The value provided for the report parameter 'StartDate' is not valid for its type. (rsReportParameterTypeMismatch)
Why do the reports run fine individually? Obviously something is wrong with Report Server processing the parameters, that it converts the date format to US English only when passing parameters to drill through report. This problem is eliminated when I change the language settings to US-English on my workstation.
Any ideas how can this be fixed, if at all? It would certainly be not feasible to have all the users change their settings from Canadian to US-English.
I am trying to exectue SQL task as below by passing a parameter
If I try....
@v1 datetime
set @v1 = convert(datetime, ? ,103)
it fails with below error
" failed with the following error: "Syntax error or access violation". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.
however the below code works well
delete from t1 where last_update = convert(datetime, ? ,103)
Guys I have a simple 'black box' proc deriving start and end dates below (the actual values will be derived from more complex code but here for simplicity are hard coded)
create proc upGetDates as declare @start datetime , @end datetime
select@start = '2001-01-01' , @end = '2007-12-31' go
I want to reuse this proc many times for different reports and using the date values in the calling sp
an example in pseudo code would be
create proc usedates as declare@rstart datetime , @rend datetime
exec upGetDates @rstart = @start , @rend = @end -- obtaining dates from ---called 'black box' proc select * from tablename where datecreated >= @rstart and datecreated < @rend go
Not sure how to 'trap' the dates from the called proc
I'm writing a simple voting script and have columns for each options. I need to update the data based on whichever option the user picks.I.e...If the user picks option 1 then execute UPDATE mytable SET option1 = option1 + 1If the user picks option 2 then execute UPDATE mytable SET option2 = option2 + 1 Etc., etc.What's the best way to do that without building an ad-hoc SQL statement? There could be many options so I dont want to have lots of redundant SQL statements.Can I just use a varible in a stored proc and do something like this? UPDATE mytable SET @optionUserpicked=@optionUserpicked + 1Thanks in advance
I have created a stored proc for a report, which works fine. I want to have the user enter a project ID to filter the report, so set the stored proc accordingly. However, I want the user to enter a 10 digit ID, which is the equivilent of two fields in the stored proc. My where statement is :
Where actv.ProjID + '-' + actv.Activity = @project
This works fine under the data tab, I can enter a full project and get the results I want. But I cannot preview the report without getting an error. I'm not sure how to add this to the report parameters, as it is two fields concatenated together. Any help would be appreciated!
public Sub Main()     Dim url, destination As String     destination = Dts.Variables("report_destination").Value.ToString + "" + "Report_" + Format(Now, "yyyyMMdd") + ".xls"     url = "http://localhost/ReportServer?/ssis_resport_execution/ssis_ssrs_report&rs:Command=Render&ProductID=" + Dts.Variables("ProductID").Value.ToString + "&user_id" + Dts.Variables("user_id").Value.ToString + "&rs:Format=EXCEL"     SaveFile(url, destination)     Dts.TaskResult = ScriptResults.Success   End Sub
How to pass more than one variable values in ssis as parameter values to ssrs. With the above code its showing as empty.If i am taking single variable i am able to render the data into  excel sheet.
I've encountered a new problem with an SSIS Pkg where I have a seq. of Execute SQL tasks. My question are:
1) In the First Execute SQL Task, I want to store a single row result of @@identity type into a User Variable User::LoadID of What type. ( I tried using DBNull Type or Object type which works, not with any other type, it but I can't proceed to step 2 )
2) Now I want to use this User::LoadID as input parameter of What type for the next task (I tried using Numeric, Long, DB_Numeric, Decimal, Double none of there work).
Hello, I have a number of multi-select parameters which I would like to send to a stored procedure within the dataset for use in the stored procedure's IN() statement which in turn is used to filter on or out particular rowsets.
I considered using a hidden string parameter set = " ' " + join(parameter.value, ',') + " ' " so that the hidden parameter would then contain a comma delimiated string of the values selected, which would then be sent on to the stored proc and used in the WHERE clause of one of the queries internal to the stored proc. But before I start dedicating time to do this I wanted to inquire if anyone here with far more expertise could think of a faster or less system heavy method of creating a single string of comma delimited parameter selections?
hello, I have a stored procedure being called from my class. All values are ok, except for the DateTime value. What am i doing wrong here ? Am wondering if its the date size of 50 I put there or what ? command.Parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("@dob", SqlDbType.DateTime,50, dob1)); Error Message Compiler ErrorMessage: CS1502: The best overloaded method match for 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlParameter.SqlParameter(string, System.Data.SqlDbType, int, string)' has some invalid arguments thanks Ehi
I'm trying to concatenate fields in SQL stored proc for use in textfield in asp.net dropdownlist. I'm running into a problem when I tryto use a DateTime field, but can't find the answer (so far) on theInternet. Was hoping someone here would know?My sql stored proc:SELECT AnomalyID, DateEntered + ', ' + Station + ', ' + Problem As'SelectInfo'FROM tblAnomalyWHERE WorkOrder=@varWO AND Signoff=NullORDER BY DateEnteredbut I get the error:The conversion of a char data type to a datetime data type resulted inan out-of-range datetime value.I'm not the brightest bulb on the block, so any clues greatlyappreciated!Thanks, Kathy
I need to create a SQL Server Stored Proc that will handle a variable number of Or conditions. This is currently being done with a MS Access Query as follows
mysql = "UPDATE Table SET Field2 = 1 WHERE " & myw
The above code is very simplified.
I Want to create a stored proc to do this but I cannot send it the SQL to the Stored Proc (or can I) so I need to use parameters instead. I want to do something like
Do until rst.EOF
Set cmd = MakeStoredProc("sp_Table_UpdateField2_ForField1") Set prmField1 = cmd.CreateParameter("Field1", adInteger, adParamInput, , rst!Field2) cmd.Parameters.Append Field1
cmd.Execute
Loop
Again the above is very simplified. So how can you get the the SQL for the Stored Proc for something like the following from a loop
WHERE = (Field1 <> 0) OR (Field1 <> 1) OR (Field1 <> 2) ...
Hey, I create a Select Statement in stored proc and I have printed the variable and it has the correct Select statement. My problem is now that I have the string I want how do I run it. Thanks
I haven't been able to get a variable to get its value from a query using other variables as paramters. Is this possible?
Here's my situation:
I have a table workflow ( id int PK, Quarter int UK1, Responsible varchar UK1, Stage varchar UK1 ) The workflowId is a composite key of the other three columns to keep the facttable rows narrow.
And a stored proc GetWorkflowId that looks if a certain combination of quarter, responsible and Stage exists. If so, it returns the id, if not, it inserts the row and returns the Id. So i can;t use a lookup or merge join, becuase the workflow row may not exist yet.
Now i need this workflowId as a variable in my package. (First a sql task uses it to delete old values, then a dataflow task would use it as a derived column to insert the new values.
Quarter is a variable in my package, and i need to lookup/ create a workflowid with the stored proc using Quarter, and then get the return value into a variable WorkflowId. Can i do that?
I've got stored procedure: ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[dropmyValue](@dropVal Char OUTPUT)ASEXECUTE('ALTER TABLE [dbo].[tbl1] DROP CONSTRAINT ' + @dropVal) That gets it's value from a GridView.SelectedValue: Protected Sub GridView1_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) If GridView1.SelectedValue.ToString <> "" Then Dim cs As String = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("ConnectionString").ConnectionString Using con As New SqlConnection(cs) con.Open() Dim cmd As New SqlCommand cmd.Connection = con cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure cmd.CommandText = "dropmyValue" cmd.Parameters.Add("dropVal", SqlDbType.Char) cmd.Parameters("dropVal").Direction = ParameterDirection.InputOutput cmd.Parameters("dropVal").Value = "DF_" + GridView1.SelectedValue Label2.Text = cmd.Parameters("dropVal").Value cmd.ExecuteNonQuery() End Using GridView1.DataBind() End If End Sub Label2.text shows that @dropVal is "DF_xxxxxxxx" and is the name of the Constaint to be dropped (when I comment out "cmd.ExecuteNonQuery" and run it), but the error I get is that " 'D' is not a Constraint ". I don't know if this is a sqldbtype problem, but I've tried different ones and evidently only the first character "D" is getting read, or passed to the stored procedure. Any help would be appreciated. Steve
Hi I am WORKING IN AN APPLICATION USING SQL SERVER 2000 AND VB6 I'VE A PROBLEM REGARDING VARIABLE PASSING TO STORED PROCEDURE I WILL EXPLAIN WITH AN EXAMPLE
TABLE STRUCTURE AccAccounts ------------------ Accid(Numeric) AccName(Varchar) ------------------------------------------------- 1 Cash A/c 2 Students A/c 3 HDFC Bank A/c
my Application will pass the "Accid" as a string format to Stored Procedure STORED PROCEDURE ----------------------------------- CREATE PROCEDURE GetAccName @Accid Varchar(100) AS Select * from Accaccount where accid in (@Accid)
when i run this SP declare @Accid Varchar(100) set @Accid ='1,2' exec GetAccName @Accid
i get the following error Server: Msg 8114, Level 16, State 5, Procedure GetAccName, Line 4 Error converting data type varchar to numeric.
please "ANY ONE" help me!!. The above example is only an example
I have 2 stored proc.Stored proc1(sp1) will call stored proc2(sp2).sp2 will return one output parameter of VARCHAR(5000) to sp1.Sp1 will gets the o/p parameter and stores it to a table.
My problem is while returning sp2 output parameter will truncate the size of the o/p I'm getting a part of it's actaul output.I am using SQL server 2000.How we can solve this truncation?
Hey huys, I got this stored procedure. First of all: could this work?
--start :) CREATE PROCEDURE USP_MactchUser
@domainUserID NVARCHAR(50) ,
@EmployeeID NVARCHAR(50) ,
@loginType bit = '0' AS
INSERT INTO T_Login
(employeeID, loginType, domainUserID)
Values (@EmployeeID, @loginType, @domainUserID) GO --end :)
then I got this VB.Net code in my ASP.net page....
---begin :) Private Sub matchUser() Dim insertMatchedUser As SqlClient.SqlCommand Dim daMatchedUser As SqlClient.SqlDataAdapter SqlConnection1.Open() 'conn openned daMatchedUser = New SqlClient.SqlDataAdapter("USP_MatchUser", SqlConnection1) daMatchedUser.SelectCommand.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure daMatchedUser.SelectCommand.Parameters.Add(New SqlClient.SqlParameter("@EmployeeID", SqlDbType.NVarChar, 50)) daMatchedUser.SelectCommand.Parameters.Add(New SqlClient.SqlParameter("@domainUserID", SqlDbType.NVarChar, 50)) daMatchedUser.SelectCommand.Parameters("@EmployeeID").Value = Trim(lblEmployeeID.Text) daMatchedUser.SelectCommand.Parameters("@domainUserID").Value = Trim(lblDomainuserID.Text) daMatchedUser.SelectCommand.Parameters("@EmployeeID").Direction = ParameterDirection.Output daMatchedUser.SelectCommand.Parameters("@domainUserID").Direction = ParameterDirection.Output SqlConnection1.Close() 'conn closed
End Sub ---
If I try this it doesn't work (maybe that's normal :) ) Am I doing it wrong. The thing is, in both label.text properties a values is stored that i want to as a parameter to my stored procedure. What am I doing wrong?
