Password Property In ConnectionManager

Jan 18, 2007

I'm developing a custom manager in SSIS that has several properties defined. One property is a password string that is visible in clear text in the properties pane. I'm trying to figure out how to create a masked field in the properties pane that will mask the text and not present this in clear text. Can someone send me instructions or code samples in C# for doing this? BOL doesn't provide any information on doing this.

Problem Configuring Password Property For Oledb Connection.

Feb 17, 2006

I'm creating an xml configuration file to hold the connection string including the password (sql server authentication).  My package protection level is set to 'EncryptSensitiveWithPassword'.  I set up my connection manager and I check the 'Save my password' box. The  'Test connection' button reports that the connection is OK.  I enable the package configurations and I go through the Package Configuration Wizard and I specify 'xml configuration file' and I choose 'Specify configurations settings directly' and I specify a configuration file name with the same directory as the package.  I check the 'ConnectionString' property and the 'Password' property and then click 'Close'.  Then I save my package changes.  Now I look at the xml configuration file in a text editor and I see the Password property has an empty element:

<ConfiguredValue></ConfiguredValue>

Is it supposed to be empty?  When I right-click the package in solution explorer and pick 'Reload with upgrade' then I have to enter the password, but the validation fails with 'Acquire connection' error.  Should I just be saving the 'Connection string' property, or should I save all the connection elements (i.e. ServerName, UserName, Password etc.)?  If I edit the xml configuration file and I type the password into the <ConfiguredValue> element above, and then I do 'Reload with upgrade', then the 'Acquire connection' validation error goes away.  Could this mean that I am not able to encrypt the password?  Thanks.

VSA And ConnectionManager - AcquireConnection

Jan 19, 2006

Hi all

In a SSIS Package I have defined a ConnectionManager to
a SQL Server 2005.
Now I am trying to query data in a Visual Studio for Application Script.

I tried the following:
Dim local_SQLConnectionManager As Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.ConnectionManager
Dim local_SQLConnection As New System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection
Dim local_SQLDataReader As System.Data.SqlClient.SqlDataReader
Dim local_SQLCommand As New System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand

local_SQLConnectionManager = Dts.Connections("Name of ConnectionManager")
local_SQLConnection = CType(local_SQLConnectionManager.AcquireConnection(null), System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection)
local_SQLConnection.Open()
local_SQLCommand.Connection = local_SQLConnection

local_SQLCommand.CommandText = "SELECT something"
local_SQLDataReader = local_SQLCommand.ExecuteReader()
If local_SQLDataReader.Read Then
Dts.Variables("Just a variable").Value = local_SQLDataReader.GetString(0)
End If
local_SQLDataReader.Close()

It always stops on the line with the AcquireConnection:
Unable to cast COM object of type 'System.__ComObject' to class type 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection'. and so on ....

Thanks for any help

HOW To Cast An AS ConnectionManager Into A SriptTask?

Dec 22, 2006

In fact, we could use AMO in the Sript Task, just by include the AMO.dll, many guys have talked about it on the forum.

But now, O my god, I met a big problem.

I declare a AS connectionManager in the SSIS package. In the Script Task I can't use it.

If this is a OEL DB ConnectionManager and connect to SQL Sever, I know I could write this inside the Sript Task:

Public myKPIConnection As SqlClient.SqlConnection

myKPIConnection = _
DirectCast(Dts.Connections("CYF.KPIOperation").AcquireConnection(Dts.Transaction), _
SqlClient.SqlConnection)

Then I could use myKPIConnection inside the Task.

But, How to do the similar thing to a AS ConnectionManager? I need to DirectCast the AS connectionManager to What?

By the way, the only thing I want to do is to Start an AS transaction inside the Sript Task, and let a Process Task outside to be enlisted in the trransaction. So I need to use the same AS connectionmanager.

Thanks.

Get FlatFile Columns Through ConnectionManager

Mar 29, 2006

The CreatePackage sample provided with SQL Server programmatically creates a package that has a source type of OLEDB to a flat file destination. I am building exactly the opposite, source=flatfile, destination=SQL Server. I expect that will be a more common scenario is using SSIS.

The problem I have is populating the source columns in the FlatFileSource connection manager programmatically. I know it can be done because it happens when you build a package in Visual Studio. What I'd like to know is how to do it programmatically in the object model. How can I interrogate the datasource through the connection manager to find out what columns it has? If I know, I can add the columns to the connection manager. My sample below does this, but it doesn't know the number of columns in the source so that value is hardcoded. I'm guessing there is a better way to do this than what I've got below.

How can I find the number of columns in my source so I can add the columns to the connection manager?

Thanks.

Private Sub AddColumnsToFlatFileConnectionManager()
Dim ff As wrap.IDTSConnectionManagerFlatFile90 = Nothing

For Each cm As ConnectionManager In _Package.Connections
If cm.Name.Equals(_ExternalConnectionID) Then
ff = TryCast(cm.InnerObject, wrap.IDTSConnectionManagerFlatFile90)
DtsConvert.ToConnectionManager90(cm)
End If
Next

If Not ff Is Nothing Then

Dim col As wrap.IDTSConnectionManagerFlatFileColumn90
Dim name As wrap.IDTSName90
Dim Min As Int32 = 0
Dim Max As Int32 = Min + 3 ' *** HARDCODED LIMIT ***

For cols As Integer = Min To Max
col = ff.Columns.Add()

If cols = Max Then
col.ColumnDelimiter = vbCrLf
Else
col.ColumnDelimiter = ","
End If

Dim width As Int32 = 50
Dim DataType As wrap.DataType = wrap.DataType.DT_STR

col.ColumnType = "Delimited"
col.DataType = DataType
col.MaximumWidth = width
col.DataPrecision = 0
col.DataScale = 0
col.ColumnWidth = width
name = TryCast(col, wrap.IDTSName90)
name.Name = "Column " & cols.ToString

Next

End If

End Sub

Save ConnectionManager For Future Use

Dec 12, 2007

Hello,

I just create FLATFILE connection manager from UI, and now I would like save this connection manager for future use. I am not able to do this and now I am really stuck in the middle of coding.

ConnectionManager class has SaveToXML and LoadFromXML methods from IDTSPersist, these methods are not for use, but I am able to save CM to XML, however not load. Every try for loading ends with error 0xC0011008. The XmlNode.Name == "DTS:ConnectionManager"

CM class is not serializable, thus standard .NET feature is not working, also is sealed.

IDTSConnectionManagerFlatFile90 of cm.InnerObject is not serializable either, because it is interface and cm.InnerObject cannot be cast to ConnectionManagerFlatFileClass because is the COM.

Is there any way, how to save and load ConnectionManager besides writing of tons of code for each of connection manager type?

I am able to save and load package with connection manager, but it is not exactly what I want. Also is there possibility to work with XML in packages, but this is not "right".

Thanks

SSIS ConnectionManager In Script Task

 I ws thinking something like this might work, but no dice.
Dts.Connections("SourceConnectionExcel").Properties("ExcelFilePath")

Child Package ConnectionManager Visibility

Jul 20, 2006

Hopefully a simple question about parent-child package relationship. For this example, let's say I have a simple setup - one parent package: parent.dtsx, and one child package: child.dtsx. The parent package calls the child package via the ExecutePackage Task.

If I add an OleDB ConnectionManager to the parent package called MySqlConnectionManager, should I be able to reference this connection via a script task (or custom component) from my child package? I realize that I will have a problem doing this at design time, but I thought I could get around it with the script task or custom component. That said, when I look in the Connections collection at run-time from within my child package, I do not see the parent package's MySqlConnectionManager. Am I missing something, or is this the way it was intended to work?

Thanks,

David

Changing Code Page Property Using Property Expression Doesn't Work

Jun 16, 2006

I am having problems exporting data into a flat file using specific code page. My application has a variable "User::CodePage" that stores code page value (936, 950, 1252, etc) based on the data source. This variable is assigned to the CodePage property of desitnation file connection using Property expression.

But, when I execute the package, the CodePage property of the Destination file connection defaults to the initial value that was set for "User:CodePage" variable in design mode. I checked the value within the variable during runtime and it changes correctly for each data source. But, the property of the destinatin file connection doesn't change and results in an error.

[Flat File Destination [473]] Error: Data conversion failed. The data conversion for column "Column01" returned status value 4 and status text "Text was truncated or one or more characters had no match in the target code page.".

[DTS.Pipeline] Error: The ProcessInput method on component "Flat File Destination" (473) failed with error code 0xC02020A0. The identified component returned an error from the ProcessInput method. The error is specific to the component, but the error is fatal and will cause the Data Flow task to stop running.

If I manually update the variable with correct code page and re-run the ETL, everything works fine. Just that it doesn't work during run-time mode.

Can someone please help me resolve this.

Thanks much.

Value Of A Readonly Property Of Custom Task Is Not Updated In Property Window

Apr 17, 2008

Hi,

I developed a simple custom control flow component which has several read/write properties and one readonly property (lets call it ROP) whichs Get method simple returns the value of a private variable (VAR as string). In the Execute method the VAR has a value assigened. When I put the value of ROP or VAR into MsgBox I can see the correct value. However when I execute the component I can not see the value of the ROP in the property window. I see the property but its value is empty string. For example when I put a breakpoint to postexecute or check the property before click OK in a MsgBox I would expect that the property value would be updated in SSIS as well. Is there a way how to display correct values of custom tasks properties in property window?

Thanks for any hints.

(URGENT) Cannot Be Written To The Property. The Expression Was Evaluated, But Cannot Be Set On The Property

May 7, 2008

Untill recently I had a smooth running SSIS package,but suddenly it throws error syaing
"OnError,,,,,,,The result of the expression

"@[User:trTextFileImpDirectory] +"SomeTextStringHere"+ @[User:trANTTextFileName] +(DT_STR,30,1252) @[User:taging_Date_Key]+ "SomeTextStringHere"
" on property "ConnectionString" cannot be written to the property. The expression was evaluated, but cannot be set on the property."

I have child SSIS package running under a parent package (through execute package task)

I have few flat file connection managers in child package for text file import , in which I am building text file path dynamically at run time by assigning an expression in connection string property of connection manager.
The Expression is as follows

"@[User:trTextFileImpDirectory] +"SomeTextStringHere."+ @[User:trANTTextFileName] +(DT_STR,30,1252) @[User:taging_Date_Key]+ +"SomeTextStringHere"

Where @[User:trTextFileImpDirectory] is a variable which contains path of directory containg text
files.Value in this variable is assigned at runtime from parent package's variable,which in turns fetch
value from a configuration file on local server.

With my current configuration this path has been configured to some other server's directory over network ( I.e my package picks text files from some other servers folder over network)

While
"Some string here"+ @[User:trANTTextFileName]" part of file name string.

(DT_STR,30,1252) @[User:taging_Date_Key] Contain the date of processing ,value in this variable is also picked up at run time from parent package variable.

1) So can someone give me some insight into possible reason of failures.
2) Is it possible that problem arises if directory (from which I m picking text files) is assigned password or is there exist some problem in accessing forlders over network ?
3) Or there can be some problem in package configuration at design time( I.e where I m assigning value in variable from parent package vriables)?

Accessing ConnectionString From ConnectionManager In A Script Task Ends With Login Failed! WHY!!

Feb 8, 2007

So in a script task for one of my packages I have a connection manager to an dtsConfig OLE DB.

This is the code

Dim ConnectionString As String = Dts.Connections("db_stage").ConnectionString
Dim sqlConnection As SqlConnection = New SqlConnection(ConnectionString )

I get a login failed for
user...But if I hardcode the connectionString, including the password this works.

1) Why is it that the ConnectionString from the connection manager omits this password?
2) Since this is an OLE DB, is there anyway to set the Data Source Designer to omit the "Provider=ABCDED.1" section?

Thanks!
Tony

Referencing One Item's Hidden Property In Order To Set Another's Hidden Property

Feb 15, 2007

Hello,

I have a group I'll call G4.

The header table row for G4 contains 3 textboxes containing the sums of the contents within G4. The header table row for G4 is visible while it's contents, including the G4 footer table row, is kept invisible until the report user drills down into the group.

When the report user drills down into G4 the footer table row becomes visible and the sums of the contents of the group are displayed for a second time.

At this point I want the sums in the header to be set to invisible when the sums in the footer are made visible by the drilldown.

When I try to reference the hidden property of textbox66 in the G4 footer in order to set the hidden property of header textbox57 in the G4 header I get to this point...

=IIF(reportitems!textbox66.

When it fails to give me an option of choosing the .Hidden property and instead only gives me a .Value.

If I complete the IIF statement manually so that it spells out .....

=IIF(ReportItems!Textbox66.Hidden = False, True, False)

...the report chokes on it.

So my question is, how do I reference the hidden property of one or more textboxes in a group to use as condition checks to set the hidden property of another textbox in that same group?

Thank you for any help you can provide. We are only now beginning to implement reporting services and I have not yet had the chance to research this in greater detail for lack of time.

SQL Server Agent Job Will Not Retain Package Password (encrypt Sensitive With Password)

Apr 1, 2008

I have a package protected by a password - I am already unhappy that to get it to use the configuration file to change connection strings for the production servers I have had to hardcode the password into the config file - very insecure!
However, the package now deploys correctly to the production server and will run from there OK, but NOT if scheduled as a SQL Server Agent Job. Thus is because however often I edit the command line to include the password after the DECRYPT switch (which it has prompted me for when I click on the command line tab), the Job Step will not retain it.
If I open it up after I have edited it and closed it, the password has disappeared.

I know that if I run dtexec plus the code in the Command Line tab (with the password), the package runs OK.

This is driving me insane!
I have read all the other posts and so I tried replacing the SSIS package step with a CmdExec step and pasting that code into there - then I get an OLEDB error..

The code I use is:
DTEXEC /SQL "ImportRateMonitoringTables" /SERVER servername /DECRYPT password /CONFIGFILE "D:Microsoft SQL ServerSSISDeploymentsRateMonitoringImportTasksDeploymentImportRateMonitoringTables_Production.dtsConfig" /MAXCONCURRENT " -1 " /CHECKPOINTING OFF /REPORTING E

and I get

SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x8000FFFF

although the same code executes perfectly from a command prompt.

Please does anyone have any experience with a similar problem and if so, how did you get round it?

Thank you

SQL 2005 SP2 - Windows 2003 Ent SP1 - Password Does Not Meet The Password Policy DLL

Jun 18, 2007

I am receiving the following error message when attempting to create a new SQL Authenticated login id.

Password validation failed. The password does not meet the requirements of the password filter DLL. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 15119)

I have four servers all running SQL Server 2005 SP2 on Windows 2003 Ent. SP1. Of the four servers, only one received the above error message using the same TSQL below.

CREATE LOGIN TEST_LOGIN WITH PASSWORD = 'pvif9dal' MUST_CHANGE, CHECK_EXPIRATION = ON

All four servers are in the same domain, which if I understand correctly, the password policies are therefore inherited at the OS level by the domain. The password being used is within the password policies of the domain.

Any ideas as to a root cause?

Remember My Password Is Forgetting Password

Mar 11, 2008

On the login prompt for Report Server, there is a checkbox option to "Remember my Password." I check this, login successfully... but when returning to the Report Server, I am again prompted for the password, although the user name is saved. No matter how many times I do this, the password will not save in IE7. I have tried this on 3 different computers with IE7. In IE 6, I do not even get the checkbox as an option, just the user name/password prompt. In Firefox, the password saves fine. Any ideas what would be causing this?

Equivalent To MySQL's Password() Function? (was MySQL To SQL Server And Password())

Mar 3, 2005

I have an internal Project Management and Scheduling app that I wrote internally for my company. It was written to use MySQL running on a Debian server, but I am going to move it to SQL Server 2000 and integrate it with our Accounting software. The part I am having trouble with is the user login portion. I previously used this:

PHP Code:

 $sql = "SELECT * FROM users WHERE username = "$username" AND user_password = password("$password")";

Apparently the password() function is not available when accessing SQL Server via ODBC. Is there an equivalent function I could use isntead so the passwords arent plaintext in the database? I only have 15 people using the system so a blank pwd reset wouldn't be too much trouble.

When I preview the report in VS it doesn't. When I publish this report in Report Manager it does. When I export from Report Manager (In PDF Format) it doesn't.

What do I have to do so it will repeat in Reporting Services?
Is it normal that In Report Manager that what you view does not export the same way?

I'm new at this altogether. About 4 months in SQL and 1 month with Reporting Services. So be gentle.
