Can someone tell me why path to the configuration file couldn't be relative to the package? When I try to use relative path (i.e. do not specify full path to the configuration file) package then run from BIDS looks for configuration file in the solution folder instead of package's folder (project folder).
Is there ane way to force package use same folder to search for caonfiguration files?

i have created one package which contains flat file source and flat file destin and corres conneciton mgrs.
i created configuration using package configurations with name config.dtxconfig.(while creating it i selected connection string under source file and destination file).
config.dtxconfig contains path as config value for source c:folderfilesourc.txt.and for destination c:folderfiledest.txt
But my req is we have to create another xml named as folderpath.xml should contain the path up to c:folder.for every package execution ssis should access this xml where it should find the folder.
if i want to change the name of folder (or ) move the folder i should change in folderpath.xml only wihout changing folder name in all configuration files.
can i do that.
if not give me alternate solution.plz guide me with clear explanation since i am novice to this tool
Is there any way I can configure the Configuration file Path.
I have an understanding that wherever I store my package but my Configuration file(XML) must be store in the place specified in the package. In my dev environment I have C Drive as such the package is in DevServerNameC:SSIS.
However, there is no C drive allocated in Prod envirnment as such package is going to rest in ProdServerName/SSIS
Now if I place my package and execute here and it will look for configuration files(XML) which are on C file path. Then I guess my package fails.
I am just wondering how can I make my package configure file path dynamic?
We are facing some issues with SSIS and thought if you could be of some help.
Actually, instead of Deploying our SSIS projects we copy the SSIS files to a different server from where we execute the SSIS Packages. The reason being, we have a Core Version of the application and this is deployed to different markets and subsequent customisations are performed in the market specific version of the Packages. The problem is although we have a Package Configuration Xml File for our Connection object, the first time when we copy the Packages, we have to manually open each of the Package and change the URL of the Xml File for Configuration. I read through some of the articles on the internet and came to know that the Package Configuration does not support relative path and only absolute path is possible.
Can you please share some of your suggestions on the above problem.

So a parent package could somehow tell a child package to pull its configuration from a selection of different xml config files at run time... I couldn't see a variable in the child package to set from the former
My only idea at the moment is to replace the Execute Package Task with an Execute Process Task, and directly invoke the child using dtexec & an expression to dynamically set the /CONF switch..

I have been reading through different posts about how to manage SSIS configuration files across multiple environments. I have seen a few that mention a solution that turns out not to really work (or maybe I€™m doing something wrong); which is what I hope to find out here.
Solutions I am working with:
1: Put the XML Configuration file in the same directory as the SSIS package and only specify the config file name when setting it up in the package. I do not specify a path to the XML Configuration file, just the config file name.
ISSUE: This works when I first create the package and test it without closing down visual studio. Even after deploying the SSIS package and the config file and moving it between environments it works as long as the working directory of the DTExec command is the same directory as the SSIS package and configuration files. The problem comes in after I have closed Visual Studio and opened it again and loaded up the SSIS package. It then gives a bunch of errors stating that it can€™t locate the configuration files€¦. If I could fix this issue, then this would be a solution that I could live with. (I would much rather use a relative path to a different directory but I€™ll live with what I can get). Can anyone solve the issue of Visual Studio 2005 not recognizing the location of the configuration files when only the configuration file name, and not the path is specified?
-- The other odd thing is that I have been able to get this to work consistently with some of my packages but not others. I'm not sure what I did to get those packages to recognize the location of the xml config file.

We have a SQL Server setup as a publisher to 15 subscribers. We need to change the path of the data & log files to a new drive (added a new harddisk). We plan to take a cold backup of the database and shift the data & log files to the new drive. Then we just attach the data & log files from the new path.
Will this disturb my existing replication Setup?
Is the the correct procedure for changing the path of the existing data & log files?
What is the appropriate method for shifting data & log file of a live database to a different location (directory/drive) ?

I get this error, every time I set the delay validation property of the dataflow tab to true.

I want to use the windows authentication so users do not have to log on. The aspnetdb has been created using the configuration tool. If I use Server Explorer in vs to work on the site on my local machine, I can open aspnetdb, look at its tables, etc. If I use Server Explorer in vs to work on the site on the server, aspnetdb will not open and gives this error message: ..."network path that is not supported for database files"...Other sites on the same server give the same message, but the sites work. I think this is because they can read the file but not write it; but that is a guess. We have tried everything; my head is ready to explode. We are using SQLServerExpress. It resides on the server's C drive (as does our data database). The web site, and hence the aspnetdb are on the F: drive of the same machine. Does SQLServerExpress treat the F: drive as a UNC drive? If so, are we in deep doo doo? I'm at a loss.As far as logging in: If I debug from vs, the login works beautifully both on my local machine and running from the server using vs. Login does not work when accessing the site from iexplorer. Mystified by that one, too. I tried to implement profiles and they crash, too; that led me to consider a write problem.Don't know what to do; any help is appreciated.

In SQL Studio, I can go to the restore window and the click "verify backup media". This would check the restore plan listed in this window and check if some of the file are missed.Is there any way to reach this with TQSL? I know there is a "restore verify" command, but this will only verify one backup/file and not the complete restore path. I'm looking for a TSQL solution which is able to control that all necessary backup files are still present on the file System and not moved or deleted (e.g through cleanup task).

I am having a hard time grasping how to use configuration files.
Here's an example:
I created a simple package (one execute sql task) that simply does a "select * from xyz". Table xyz only exists on Server 1.
I then created a configuration file, the only setting being the ole db connection manager which is pointing to Server 1. I then went into the file and added the "password=zzz" since it's a sql server login.
When I run the package it worked.
Next, I went into the configuration file I just created and had it point to another server, Server 2, thinking this would now cause the execute sql task to fail since table xyz does not exist on Server 2.
But it's still running succesfully. What's the deal here? Shouldn't changing the configuration file settings cause the package to now fail?

I am using XML Configuration Files to configure my package connections, but when i use them on a Database Transfere Task every time i try to open those packages on a different machine from the one in which it was created i got the following error:
Validation error. «Connection_name» : The Validate method on the task failed, and returned error code 0x80131501 (Failed to connect to server «Defined Server».). The Validate method must succeed and indicate the result using an "out" parameter. «Package Name»
Anyone knows why?

a project with several packages using the same connections in each one (some
packages use all connection and others I just have some of them), why can€™t I use
only one configuration file for all project. Assuming that I would have to
configure all packages at least I would like to use always the same file. On
the other way I would need 100€™s of configuration files (one per package) to
configure always the same connection, just because not all the packages use
exactly the same connections.

configuration file lays in the same path them the project. When I change my
project to another machine that doesn€™t use the same file structure forces me
to open every package and change the configuration file location.
Having 100€™s of packages and a team of

I am deploying SSIS packages using the deployment utility. We are starting to use configuration files for storing connection information. I have the configuration files in a directory on the server I am deploying the packages to, I want all new packages deployed to use these files. When I deploy a new package it wants to overwrite the config files on the server with the ones in the package. I have tried to remove the .dtsconfig file from the package deployment folder but then the package will not use the config files on the server. How do you deploy a package and get it to use the .dtsconfig files that are already on the server?

If I open Sql server management studio and i connect to SSIS and right click to import a package, and then select to store the package in SQL Server (not on the file system)....
What happens with the configuration file?
Does the import take the values from the configuration file and place them in the package which then is stored in SQL Server?
Or do I need to put the configuration file someplace on the SQL Server where the package is imported so it can access it when it runs?
I'm a bit confused about what goes on there?
For example, I tried using the build command and then running the manifest file to import using the wizard and when it does that it copies the configuration files to a default location within the c:program filesmicrosoft sql server directory.

I am having a bit of trouble with SSIS Configurations.
- In BIDS, I have added a configuration file and specified the properties I want to expose.
- When I build the project, I get the standard bindeployment folder which contains the package file (.dtsx), the configuration file (.dtsconfig) and the deploymentmanifest.
- Before deploying the package, I edit the config file to have the settings I want it to for the environment I am deploying to.
- The package deploys OK
- When I work directly on the SSIS server (64 bit), I can go into SQl Mgt Studio, choose 'run package' and when I look in the connection manager window all the settings are as I desire ( I havent had to add a configuration file manually)
- When I work on a client machine, I connect to the SSIS server and choose 'run package' - the properties/connections are the same as on the server but the values themselves are completely different.
Why is this? Why when I run the package from the client (32 bit) do the configuration values appear to be completely different? How can I run the package remotely and pick up the configuration values that I deployed with?
Or have I misunderstood this whole configuration function?

I installed RS2K5 on cluster, modified web.config and rswebapplication.config according to 'Configuring URL settings and View State Validation' in sql2k5 books online. Web browser seems not happy with the change of rswebapplication.config (refer to following error). Anyone has idea why? Thanks.

Q. When scheduling SSIS jobs to run packages (in msdb), do I specify a configuration file in the job? Is this how one uses the configuration file? Or is the configuration file "configured" at the SSIS package level, before you schedule the job? Or both?

I have a Windows Server 2012 R2 2 node cluster with SQL Server 2014 FCI installed. Data files are on a separate Windows Server 2012 R2 file server. Data files share has been permissioned to the SQL Server service and SQL Server Agent service accounts as Full Control. NTFS Permissions are Full Control.
When I try to attach a database

FOR ATTACHI get this error:

Unable to open the physical file "apricotmssql_VIOLETMSSQL12.MSSQLSERVERMSSQLDATAAdventureWorksDW2012_Data.mdf". Operating system error 5: "5(Access is denied.)".
If I log into the file server (called APRICOT) and look at the NTFS permissions they all look good. I have also reapplied the NTFS permissions from the root folder down.
EDIT
If I log on to one of the nodes in the cluster as the SQL Server service account and navigate to apricotmssql_VIOLETMSSQL12.MSSQLSERVERMSSQLDATA and copy and paste the data file, it works fine.
EDIT2:
If I log on to the file server and Enable Inheritance at the root level, then Replace all child objects with inheritable permission entries from this object, I get this error:
User Account Control settings on all nodes and the file server are set to Never notify

For the life of me I cannot get any of the packages to *READ* the config files created with the package config wizard. I also created a config file for each package that contains the package specific settings. I checked it all into TFS. I went to a different machine and checked it all out.
