Integration Services :: Converting A String Percent Value To Decimal

Oct 12, 2015

I am reading a data source where all data in a given column is held as a string containing a percent value with 2 decimal points:

03.52%
12.32%
92.10%
80.05%
27.92%
100.00%
[...]
etc...

I need to convert these into decimal values with up to four decimal points, like this:
0.352
0.1232
0.9210
0.8005
0.2792
1.0000

I am trying to use the derived column editor but since I am fairly new to this, I am getting my wires crossed. c

1. Remove the % sign from the string -- not sure if I should use TRIM, or REPLACE
2. Divide the value by 100 -- but don't I need to do some sort of type casting first?
3. Do a cast to convert whatever I got into the correct decimals -- perhaps this isn't required if I did step 2 as a typecast to decimals already?

Legacy Database Uses Decimal Data Types.--&> AutomobileTypeId (PK, Decimal(10,0), Not Null) Why Not Integers Instead ?

Sep 26, 2007

I am working with a legacy SQL server database from SQL Server 2000. I noticed that in some places that they use decimal data types, that I would normally think they should be using integer data types. Why is this does anyone know?

Data Type With Decimal Point For Decimal Values But Not For Whole Integers

Dec 8, 2013

I am creating a table on SQL Server. One of the columns in this new table contains whole integer as wells as decimal values (i.e. 4500 0.9876). I currently have this column defined as Decimal(12,4). This adds 4 digits after the decimal point to the whole integers. Is there a data type that will have the decimal point only for decimal values and no decimal point for the whole integers?

Cast Or Convert Nvarchar With Comma As Decimal Separator To Decimal

Apr 29, 2008

Hello.

My database stores the decimals in Spanish format; "," (comma) as decimal separator.

I need to convert decimal nvarchar values (with comma as decimal separator) as a decimal or int.

Any Case using CAST or CONVERT, For Decimal or Int gives me the following error:

Error converting data type varchar to numeric

Any knows how to resolve.

Or any knows any parameter or similar, to indicate to the Cast or Convert, that the decimal separator is a comma instead a dot.

Converting (casting) From Decimal(24,4) To Decimal(21,4) Data Type Problem

Jul 24, 2006

Hello!

I would like to cast (convert) data type decimal(24,4) to
decimal(21,4). I could not do this using standard casting function
CAST(@variable as decimal(21,4)) or CONVERT(decimal(21,4),@variable)
because of the following error: "Arithmetic overflow error converting
numeric to data type numeric." Is that because of possible loss of the
value?

Thanks for giving me any advice,

How Can I Use The Decimal Comma Instead Of Decimal Point For Numbers In Jet Engine?

Sep 19, 2007

I wanted to convert a dataset from vb.net (2.0) to an .XLS file, by MS Jet. My national standard is using decimal commas, not decimal points for numbers signing the beginning of decimal places.
But the MS Jet Engine uses decimal point,in default. Therefore, in the Excel file only string formatted cells can welcome this data, not number formatted.
How can I solve or get around this problem? (with jet if it possible)

Converting Decimal Point To Decimal Comma

Nov 30, 2007

Hi all,

I am designing some reports for a German branch of my company and need to replace decimal point with a comma and the thousand comma seperator with a decimal point.

e.g.
‚¬1,500,123.00 to ‚¬1.500.123,00

Is there a property that I can change in the report designer to allow this to happen or is this something I need to convert in a Stored Proc.

Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks!

Decimal Limited To 4 Digits To Right Of Decimal?

Jun 18, 2007

I need to store decimal values: decimal(20,15) in my SQL Server 2005 database.

I load data from flat file, convert it using Data Conversion Task to decimal(with scale: 15) and try to save it using OLE DB Destination.

It works fine for 4 digits after the decimal (like 1.1234), but always failes for more than 4 digits (1.12345).

Is the decimal limited to scale 4 ???

Thank you for your help!

Percent Of Total?

Mar 24, 2008

I a bit of newbie making reports and I cant figure out how to calculate the Percent of Total on a report. Assuming I have a field in my datatable called Color, I simply want to create a report that counts the occurences of each color and then perform a calculation as to what percent of the total that each of the colors make up. Basically a report that looks like this....

Color Count Percent
Red 50 25%
Blue 100 50%

Green 50 25%
Total 200

I have a table that has a header, a grouping row based on Color, and a footer. So using the report expressions, my table looks like this

Color Count Percent
=Fields!Color.Value =Count(Fields!Color.Value) WHAT EXPRESSION GOES HERE?!?!?!

Thanks!!!

Using Percent Sign In Variable

Dec 24, 2013

I am trying to use this command to change the variable in where clause each time:

psexec servername -E cmd.EXE /c "sqlcmd -S servername /E -d dbname -v entertext="'%anything%'" -i c:myfoldermyscript.sql -o c:mypathoutput.sql"
myscript.sql is like:
select * from table_name
where summary like $(entertext);

This command works just for variables with single and exact word. It does not work for variables which has space between them or when I enter part of summary. In fact, I wanted to write something which the user be able to enter variable each time when he/she run this batch file. because I put this sqlcmd command in batch file( like this in oracle: "select * from table_name where summary = &entertext; " I was looking the same command in sql server , but I did not find it). I do not know .net or any other programing language( I know just csh and command line). I want to do this just with sql command.

Server Column As Percent

Dec 29, 2014

I am using SQL Server and have a table that is currently set to decimal(5,2) as the datatype. I am using Tableau as my front-end and if I create a dashboard, I can see my fields like 65.25, 65.72, etc. I want to view them as 65.25% however when I change the data type in Tableau to a %, it shows up as 6525.25%. Is there a way in the SQL Server side to change the column so it shows as a percent? I am sure the answer is no because I have never seen that. Only seen decimal values. Maybe I need to change it to decimal 2.2 if that even exists.

Matrix Subtotal Percent

Oct 30, 2007

I am trying to get a percent of a group on a row level. I want 62.77% or = sum(totaldeals, "Status") / sum(totaldeals, "Product"). It seems real easy but I have not been able to come up with a solution for it.

Any one have any ideas?

Product is a group, status is a group, total deals is a sum. The reason for a matrix is because I have fiscal year, fiscal quarter, fiscal month, and additional product lines coming on board. Matrix is the way to go for sum but I can't seem to get the % by product.

I was able to get the % on the row level but based on the report total with the following code:
=IIF(Sum(Fields!GrossSales.Value,"matrix1_Product")=0,0,Sum(Fields!GrossSales.Value)/IIF(Sum(Fields!GrossSales.Value,"matrix1_FianceStatus")=0,1,Sum(Fields!GrossSales.Value,"matrix1_FinanceStatus")))

This is the concept of what I am trying to do but I want it based on the on the product level sum not the matrix level sum. I tried changing the scopes of the above expression with no luck. I have tried adding inscope("") with no luck.

Bug In SELECT TOP (100) PERCENT With ORDER BY In SQLExpress?

Nov 25, 2005

I have a problem with the following query in SQLExpress:

SELECT TOP (100) PERCENT ClientSurname, ClientName
FROM dbo.Client
ORDER BY ClientSurname, ClientName

The query returns always assorted data ignoring the ORDER BY keyword, no matter if the query is invoked directly from Management Studio Express CTP as a View, Table-valued function or called from an Access ADP project. The result is always assorted.¨

Now an interesting thing is that the syntax below returns always an expected order:

SELECT TOP (99) PERCENT …
SELECT TOP 10000 …

Am I missing something or is it a bug in SQLExpress?
